Another day dawned, another bird opened up its beak and belted out the song of its people into the crisp, salty morning air.
He awoke to see the sun toss a beam, illuminating the woman beside him.
"Good morning my love, how are you doing this fine morning? Shall I make you breakfast?"
They had a work contract coming up that called for both of them, but she didn't look all that mobile at the moment.
He poked her cheek.

Sometimes her mate had an interesting way of trying to wake her up this morning. But she just wanted to continue to sleep.
She sighed. "Yes breakfast please....wait." She sat upright. "No breakfast, I don't feel quite...right."
A little nausea, perhaps she was catching a cold. "I don't feel well, can you bring me the cold salve and medicine?"
She was normally quite healthy so she was a little surprised but once in a while a cold managed to catch her.

He turned to her truly concerned. "I'll be right back with the medicine." He gently got off the bed and then rushed to their medicine trunk, not to be confused with the animal medicine trunk. He gathered the necessary herbs and rushed back to their bedroom.
She did look a bit wilty. "I'll be right back with the water."
He returned and he helped her take the medicine.
"The best thing for you is probably more sleep, the contract is still a while away you should be fine by the time we have to go, so long as you actually rest. That means no true training only light forms that dont stress you." She always had to be reminded.

She hoped she would be better, this contract would be a good one and should be fun and challenging as well as heftily rewarding. It had been a while since she had been out and it would be good to properly stretch her muscles again. She longed to hear the sound of steel singing through the air.
"Umen, I can't wait to go out with you. I really hope I'm better by then I would be so bummed if the contract was ruined."

"Don't worry you will be fine," he patted her leg gently. "Don't fuss. It will only make you tired. Rest up, I'll go cook something that you can eat when you get up alright?"
He left her room and made her some soup. He heard something down the hallway and thought maybe she would be getting up now.

Rista tottered down the hallway, stopping on the way at the bathroom, to empty her stomach of what little contents there was.
"Well that was unpleasant," she said before trickling into the room. She took a little soup and a little rice in the hopes of keeping either down.
"I don't usually throw up." What a strange cold..wait. Could it be?
"You don't think I could be...?" She looked at him with dawning wonder in her eyes.

The sound of the sea and wildlife calls floated in through their door, it was silent inside though as they both tried to count back.
"HAHA! Rista!, you could be for sure!" He cheered and picked her up for their customary twirl, then he hastily put her down as he recalled how they had figured it out. "Sorry, I forgot about the nausea for a second."
"Still though, I think we should contact the contract people and tell them that a family emergency came up."

"You think we can't do the contract now? I may be pregnant but its still early." She looked at him mournfully, she could understand if she was heavy but she wasn't yet and a little exercise was good. It was a pretty safe job just escorting a beast transport caravan through potentially sketchy areas so the client had wanted a little added protection. They had gone on many and nothing had happened. She would feel useless.

"Rista I understand that, but what if we do come across bandits or theives? Are you going to hold up a finger before battle, hurl and then resume combat? Do you think they would wait for you?" He chuckled. "More to the point what if something came up and you had a complication, we could be miles out and sometimes these things take months longer because someone inevitably get lost, remember the fall season contract that lasted halfway through winter? I won't go either, I'll start taking local stuff again, that way there will be less pressure."

"Oh yes I suppose, at least if your not going, I won't have to worry about you." It would be easy enough for him to get some local work for a while and it payed well enough.
"I suppose if that is what you think is best." She eyed him. "But don't think I'm going to be a slouch in bed all day."
She would tend the house and garden and support him as she could.

"Hah, don't worry, I am not going anywhere now. You are much more interesting than any old job anyway...and I want to be there when they kick and hiccup for the first time. I'm not missing out on any firsts that I do not have to, after all it isn't everyday that you become parents for the first time. Wow, You are going to be the best Mom."
He hugged her close to him. "I can't wait for you to be all round and adorable."

"I can wait, I wish you had to be round too, but then we wouldn't be able to reach anything. I remember watching Nin try. It was kind of hilarious but I bet I will be just as round."
How could she practice when it would mess with her center of balance, she would have to find some more meditative forms.
"I can't wait!" All jokes aside she was super excited.

.....8.5 months later.
She was radiant and quite large, they had been told that there were likely two children. Two kids that were going to be here very soon. Much to both of their delight. Though he figured Rista was just about done with not being able to see her toes. She was almost bumbly and he bet she was excited to return to her naturally slender self. He was happy with whatever form she had, as long as it was always her.
Things were about to get hella loud in their house! He couldn't wait.

She was tired but happy, it was hard to sleep at this stage though and she was now using Umen full time as a body pillow, thankfully with her there he tried to stay quite still. Sometimes he still fell off though.
She moaned theatrically.
"Are they coming any day soon Umen? They seem to have your sense of timing, come on, my back can't handle much more." She cracked one eye open to see if he was listening.

He smiled knowing that it was partially true, he was the designated back massager after all. But also knowing that she did so ever enjoy teasing him and he could hear the lightness in her tone which meant she wasn't suffering overmuch at the moment.
"Best you keep this upbeat attitude during labour love and dont rip my arm off~."
Women got scary powerful during labour, he was quite glad she hadn't that much proficiency in magic as that could have come back to bite him.
"Twin girls?" They liked to guess what it would be.
