Quote:
Prompt 3 (Drink Yourself Silly): Pop up shops are a dime a dozen in Destiny City this time of year, and for as much weirdness as they cause, there’s still something alluring about them. Walking through the city, you happen to come across one that seems particularly cozy and is decorated in such a way that you just know they’re trustworthy. The menu only has a few items but there’s something for everyone.

Maybe it’s hot chocolate, maybe it’s coffee, maybe it’s some chilly winter sweet--whatever it is, it’s delicious. And magic, but you didn’t know that when you ordered it. It started with an itch at the back of your throat, but what happened after that was anyone’s game. Some of the drinks turn into a tickle in your nose, and now you’re suddenly sneezing snowflakes for the next hour. Maybe you finish your drink and you suddenly feel warm--like you’re in the middle of summer. (Do you even need your coat? It’s so hot! --Or is that a fever?) Or, the itch turns into something else--and suddenly you feel the urge to sing. It’s compulsive, you can’t help yourself, you must sing. It’s like you’ve forgotten how to communicate in any other way. It fades an hour after you finish the drink, but still...

[This rp follows on from this solo]

Whilst it seemed like the way that pop up shops seemed to crop up all around the city at this time of year, Briar was looking for one particular type of shop in particular - namely one that sold hot drinks.

He thought that he had spotted some as he'd made his way over to the park earlier and was currently in the process of backtracking his steps now that he'd finished up at the park - well okay more like it had gotten too cold to stay out doing nothing at the park any longer - but it wasn't as if anyone was really counting–

And Briar really did want a hot chocolate.

It turned out that he had been right about the pop up shops and if the smell of it was anything to go by then it seemed likely that he was likely to be in luck for the aforementioned hot chocolate too and if they somehow happened to have chocolate chip cookies too then all the better.

The rich and comforting smell had led him past a few small shops selling decorations and another selling some sort of knick knacks before ending up at a cosy-looking shop at the very end–

A cosy-looking shop with a very, very long queue.

Queuing wasn't really Briar's idea of fun, but whilst he couldn't see a menu or anything from where he was it was clear that they at least had hot chocolate - and hot chocolate was a rather powerful motivator.

At least currently for him it was at any rate and so of course he had joined the end of the queue and dutifully trudged slowly but steadily in the direction of the shop each time the person in front of him had shifted forward.

It still had taken until Briar was in the shop proper before he had seen an actual menu however - and whilst there was no chocolate chip cookies listed on the tiny menu, the hot chocolate was down as a 'holiday special' with whipped cream and extra chocolate shavings–

And even better it came as a large.

The pop up shop - which was as cosy-looking inside as it was out - was too small to have any actual seating and so after Briar had picked up and paid for a cup of their holiday special he had started meandering in the direction of the library.

The hot chocolate itself had been as delicious as it smelt and (at least in Briar's opinion) well worth the wait. It also had the added bonus of helping to warm him right up.

The only real issue had been the itch that started up at some point after he had finished the last of it, almost like a tickle in his throat - and it just wasn't going away.

Although Briar could deal with it. He could. Really - even if the stupid tickle was kind of getting a little irritating.

Eventually, however, he'd been considering perhaps picking up some water from the shop next to the library and seeing if chugging some slowly would help, when he heard his cell ring.

The caller ID said Peter so of course Briar had answered - only for the first few words of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer to come out–

So he'd tried again and sang out "Jingle Bells" instead.

Briar had finally given up after he'd tried to speak normally and it had somehow started to come out as some sort of rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas instead.

Instead he had ended up hanging up and texting Peter instead - something along the lines of trying to call back later - because at least whatever it was that had him somehow incapable of communicating in anything other than Christmas carols didn't seem to affect texts–

And whilst the stupid whatever-it-was had finally worn off around about an hour or so later - that single hour was going to end up going down as one the most mortifying hours ever.
