Prompt 1 (Mysterious Carolers): Caroling has been a tradition for years, so it’s not really unusual when you hear a soft chorus from outside. What is unusual is that it’s three in the morning, and the moment they start singing you feel a chill in the air. Maybe it’s a holiday song, maybe it’s not, but whatever it is it’s a song you know before--from this life? From another?--and something about this version makes you go cold. If you move to the window, you will find no carolers, but the song is loud enough that you know you should be able to see them. They sing one song, and then there is silence. An eerie chill lingers, and your dreams are haunted by strange voices. You’ll probably never be able to hear that song again without feeling a chill.
At first Bernard had been much too asleep to recognize that he heard singing outside. As the melody continued however, first one of his legs twitched, and then an ear, then his fur-stache followed, until he slowly opened his eyes and realized that his sleep had been disturbed. Taking a moment and a few attempts to roll over, he looked over at one of the clocks in the room and could see that it was 3AM! Sure, he didn't have a job or any real reason as to why he couldn't sleep in to make up for lost sleep but it was the principle of the matter!
He moved around the house until he could look through one of the windows. While he had been doing this he had felt his fur stand on end. Something was haunting about the song, but what it was and where he had heard it were complete mysteries!
Looking out the window he saw... nothing. His fur-stache twitched in annoyance and he found himself squeezing out of the cat-door that had been installed and making it outside, making sure that he would find these carolers and give them a talking to!
