...okay, prepared with a camera, a puffy jacket that made her look like a 90s bowling alley carpet, and her own damn self. It was not exactly the preparation level of champions - this was something Clem was incredibly willing to admit to herself, and also anyone else who asked, not that anyone else was asking - but. Well. It was more prepared than she'd been when she was fourteen, or fifteen, or however old she'd been when there'd been rabbits. Who kept track of that kind of thing? She didn't!! It wasn't like there was Senshi Facebook or anything that she could keep track of that'd throw old images at her and go ON THIS DAY THREE YEARS AGO, YOU WERE HERE, or if there was she'd never heard about it, which meant it might as well not exist even if it actually did. Thus was Clem's normal way of experiencing things.
But she remembered the bunnies. Mostly she remembered her dog, Chikorita, being profoundly freaked out by the little things, whining and backing away and tail between her legs; this had mostly been par for the course with Chikorita, who did not like new creatures that she could not immediately identify as 'cat' or 'dog' or 'people' and was smart enough to generally group things into one of those or the fourth everything-else category. But Clementine had liked them well enough, had cooed and taken photos of their little twitchy noses and tails (and somehow not gotten herself bitten, after she'd seen another girl try to grab one and end up bleeding), and had generally had an entirely positive wintertime interaction with them! For once! Given how bad her luck had always been with Destiny City holiday magic, that was something to be celebrated!
She wasn't Sailor Onnie today, of course, and Chikorita was busy curled up near the fireplace at home; she was an old dog, and her hearing was starting to go, and also Clementine was supposedly running an errand for herself at the mall and couldn't take the dog. She had been to the mall! She was simply taking the scenic way home, because it was nice and breezy out, and it made her perpetually rosy complexion look less out of place. And if she stumbled across a bundle (a trundle? a burrow? what was the right plural for rabbits, and was it the same for hares?) of little snow bunnies... well, anyone might have done that, could have done that! This was fine and normal.
What was less fine and normal was when she stepped into a hole in the snow, overbalanced, and in the process of trying to regain her balance managed to fall a**-first into another - much, much larger - hole in the snow. God, now her butt was cold, and there was snow in her shoes, and -- there were bunnies investigating her boots and her fingers, and their freezing-cold noses tickled, and maybe this wasn't actually as bad as she'd initially thought. They were just as cute up close as she remembered them being, anyway.
Prompt 7 (Snowbunnies): Winter seems to bring out the cutest of all rodents; this isn’t the first time that small, white rabbits have infested Destiny City. They’re small, rarely larger than a guinea pig, and have large eyes and wiggling noses. They are always pure white and seem to show up whenever there’s snow. They aren't menacing or evil, they're just everywhere. They seem strangely domesticated; they are sweet, curious, and friendly creatures that will eat anything you give them. They always seem cold to the touch, and when they shake, little snowflakes sprinkle off of them.
While they seem to be social creatures who seem to appreciate anything warm and will cuddle up to steal body heat, they are too skittish and fast to be kept for pets. They can show up just about anywhere, either alone or--often--in pairs. They tend to wander off on their own without any trouble, but if you surprise them or try to catch or hurt them, they may bite. Their little teeth are enough to break skin, but after one bite they run away. The bite itself isn’t bad, but the effects are a bit unpleasant: for roughly two days after the bite, the injury is cold and the victim will feel random, cold, shooting pains. Their core body temperature will drop and they will often be sent into random fits of shivering. No medicine seems to help, and no amounts of blankets or hot baths can soothe the chill. You're just going to have to deal with it and hope it gets better…
Most experiences with the bunnies are perfectly pleasant, you just have to worry about them burrowing. There are holes peppering Destiny City, and with the fresh fallen snow it can be impossible to tell where they are hiding. The holes range from small holes to several feet deep, so can be a minor inconvenience to a potential hazard. On the bright side, sometimes you wind up covered in bunnies looking for warmth from their sudden guest. On the other hand, there are a rising number of trips to the hospital for twists and sprains. The bunnies always leave with the snow, so best to enjoy them--or avoid them--for as long as you can.
