[Dec 2021 Holiday Time]
Wyatt was working a rare mid shift rather than his night shift at the hotel, taking a breather for a moment between swarms of families checking in for their holiday stays. He thumbed through the premade card-keys when he squinted at a familiar surname.
In Destiny City, where oddly surnames somehow managed to very unrealistically not overlap with unrelated individuals, he had to admit that he was.....curious. Wyatt began punching things in to the computer, pulling up the reservation that had gotten his attention. He didn't know what he expected when he looked - it wasn't like Wyatt had ever really asked Lukas about his family, let alone their names or anything, so looking at the information really didn't help him any. With a sigh he closed out the screen with the reservation and got to doing some of his other tasks.
Some time passed before the doors opened to a new set of guests, and what first caught his ears was the accent. Wyatt paused for a moment before looking up --
((Gonna let you have at it with the fam ;D ))

Winter on the ranch was nothing to shake a stick at, bu there was something about this cold in Destiny City that just bit harder. Maybe it was because of all these tall buildings that sucked up the sunlight before it could warm the earth, or maybe it was just the lack of sunlight to begin with! The places closer to the coast always did get funny weather. Luckily, the middle aged woman who seemed to march right into the hotel that her son had highly recommended if she and her hubby ever wanted to come visit this strange big city! And it was the HOLIDAYS! Why wouldn’t she want to see her baby boy after so many months? And not only that, but if rumor has it, he even had a new lover, and was happy. She had to know. Mama needed to know her boy was good, especially after all them years spent mourning. Just what kinda man could catch her baby boy’s heart like that? A stodgy man followed behind her, dragging a single, ridiculously large suitcase. And he seemed to be just as many smiles as she was, though perhaps a bit more tired. For the man, his hair was a faded chestnut brown, and hers, a dainty, yet faded and familiar pinkish red. “‘Scuse me, hun, I’d like to check in when you get a chance. But no rush now, yah hear? Take yer time, it’s the holidays!”

See, Wyatt was a smart guy - very quick to put pieces together. Between the surname, the accents, that hair color.... Hell, he wasn't in the hospitality business for nothing, but it was time to dial it up...and maybe pull a few strings in the system. If his suspicions were correct, it should hopefully go a long way in curating favor. If not, it was no loss to him either. "No problem, ma'am," Wyatt replied with a trained hospitality smile and added 'smize' warming rose-quartz eyes, "What name is the reservation under?" He pulled back up the reservation on his monitor, again already having a good idea which one it was. He quickly looked at the assigned room number, then another screen to see what others of the same type were available. The assigned room was on the ground floor, but near the pool, where noisy visitors and their children often passed. There was no designation in the reservation requesting bottom floor, so Wyatt bumped it up to an empty room on the second floor, and seeing that the room with newer and better amenities was not blocked out, swiftly upgraded to that room. A few more keystrokes and the previously higher price for that room was matched with the price for the previous room. Reason code was just as swiftly BSed. All this was done swiftly and expertly without dropping any air of calm, sweet, hospitality which masked the fact that he could practically feel his gut in his throat. Why were all his anxious feelings felt in his stomach? Well, at least he wasn't so anxious that he felt quite like vomiting. Nah, that was for the more triggering-ly emotional things. He maintained his smile, waiting expectantly.

The woman seemed to simply smile, all the way up to her eyes. It was then that the similarity between another farmer boy Wyatt knew could not be mistaken. “Velazquez. First name Deigo and Clara. I got my ID right here. Don’t be fooled by that number either. I know I look young but that’s my age right there, HA!” The woman laughed and patiently waited to be checked in. As subtle as it was, she did noticed the clackity clack that was going on, and she could not help but be curious about it. But she knew better than to question too much. Her husband seemed to simply drop the suitcase beside her for now and half waddle over to the free water cooler, drinking in deep and leaving an embarrassingly loud “AH REFRESHING!” Hanging in the air. “Ahaha, ignore him, silly ol’ badger. And what’s yer name, hun? Gotta make sure I leave a good review for yer kind service, yes yes!”

Any last percentage of doubt was gone. Did Lukas know they were coming? No, probably not - there was definitely no way he wouldn't have told him. Despite his inner discord, Wyatt never dropped the hospitality. Impressions here were more important than ever. He did his best to be charming and polite. Now did...did he mention Lukas now or...let it be a surprise that he knew -oh that was an understatement - their son? The screaming in his head couldn't have been louder. "I've got you're reservation right here - you're all good. I just need to make your keys-" Then came the resoundingly loud statement from the watercooler, and Clara's follow up. Wyatt have a friendly enough smile and half laugh, before answering her question as he resumed activating the keycards. "Wyatt. Wyatt Estil," he gave his name as he set the keycards in their little card folder and wrote the room number on the outside. As he handed them over, the mental debate finally swayed one way and he said; "You wouldn't happen to be the parents of a Lukas Velazquez, would you?"

“Wyatt Estil… Huh.. Don’t that name sound familiar, hun?” Clara thoughtfully tapped her chin in thought as Diego dragged himself right over. “Yeh, that’s Lukas’s sweetheart, isn’t it?” The old man paused, the realization hitting him. And he squinted, dots connecting, judging. That was until Clara gave him a right ol’ elbow in the gut and he laughed once more. “Oi, you got us! Shuuush, we were gonna go up there and surprise ya’ll, but go figure, right? I wondered why he recommended this cute lil’ ol’ place so highly… But you don’t mind keepin’ this little meeting a secret for now, right? We wanna surprise him and you but uh… That’s a little bit hard to do now, ain’t it?” The older woman seemed genuinely sheepished and embarrassed by having been caught before they even set foot on the mountain… “We ain’t here to cause no problems, nah, we just miss our lil’ boy. But he ain’t little no more ain’t he?? HA!” Again, that elbow met Diego’s gut, and he snorted all the more. “… Like I said don’t mind us. We’re gonna be nice and quiet, gonna leave ya’ll be durin’ Christmas Eve and Day, cuz we know ya’ll probably wanna spend it alone but…. you know.. Since yer here… Perhaps you could tell us a good time to go make an entrance?”

"I'm sure he will be quite surprised," He said with a smile and a nod, intending for it to sound like a promise to keep their secret. Really, he was going to send a text as soon as the parents were squared away. "It's not a bother at all, it will be nice to get to know the two of you. By all means, share all the embarrassing details about dear Lukas, too," a look of playful mischief worked its way into his smile. Wyatt's swiveled his chair around to grab a tourist pamphlet from the counter behind him then laid it out in front of the pair. "There is a tourist district filled with lots of sights and shopping all year around, but especially christmas time," Wyatt pointed at a road that was teaming with storefronts on both sides, that was also comprised of little alleyways with more smaller cute storefronts that then opened up in to foot-traffic only alcoves of stores and stalls. One couldn't tell from the map itself, but there were pictures on the pamphlet that showed the architecture that went from the classic glass store fronts of the road-facing stores, to more stylized stone brick and wood structures that seemed to lean towards Germanic Townhouse and sometimes cottage-y. The alleyway and alcove walkways were cobblestone. Being a tourist-centric shopping area, there were also photo-op cutouts here and there, and cute benches near manicured little trees and fountains. There were bakeries and cafes with their little tables and chairs~ It looked like a good time. Honestly, Wyatt kind of had been wanting to visit himself but a; crowds. b; he didn't want to go alone, which lead to c; he knew Lukas would worry about him doing so much walking. But this was a good opportunity! He'd make Lukas promise not to fuss over him, and hopefully the parents could distract him from that a bit. He'd promise to conveniently want to chill on a bench if he felt like he needed to! (He'd never admit to feeling like he needed to, but EH~) "If that sounds like fun, drop by the mountain tomorrow morning and we can drag Lukas along," Wyatt said with a wink, as if he wasn't going to totally run the game-plan he had forming by his partner. "Then after all that fun, we can head back to the mountain - he can show you the tower he and I fixed up for him to live in, - that will give you all time to privately chat and catch up - and I'll cook us all a nice dinner at my place. Dessert, too. That's kind of my thing - I promise, I've made sure he has been well fed."

"Oh you know we've got lots of them from the ranch! You were right hunny, it WAS a good idea to bring the album. We'll hafta share that later though, gotta dig through everything to find it. You think we were here for a whole month, not just a week!" Clara used a foot to lightly kick their ridiculously large suitcase, and Diego simply crossed his arms, nodding along. It was clear who had the most to say between the two of them! But they both kept a firm eye on what was being presented to them, gaze fixated on the suggestions and quickly being filled with ideas of what they could do with their own little wintery get away! "Now that sounds like a good time, don't it? Aww, but you don't need no ol' fogies like us draggin' ya'll around.. Maybe after we come by the mountain, we can meet up another day for the lunchin' down in the town for that! And tomorrow, we can come by and just relax. I know it's a big ol' surprise, but we don't wanna go around messin' up your work schedule or nothin..."

"Well, I look forward to it," Wyatt replied. Lukas was quite cute when he blushed, so watching him be so lovingly and sweetly embarrassed would be a treat. Wyatt would no doubt make up for it, or rather, be 'punished' for it later, but he was more than willing to accept his fate. "Oh pfft," Wyatt waved the notion of being dragged around off, "Honestly, I've been looking for a reason to go ever since they uh..revitalized the area." Youma attacks and Order vs Chaos battles was prone to a lot of property damage. But Destiny City seemed to be doing its best to make the most of it. 'I Survived Destiny City' tourist merch was a plenty, and 'City Cryptid Hunt/Tours' were....a thing, apparently. " But, you just let me know what you want to do so I can make all the cooking plans - I have to make a grocery run after I get off work here anyway." He didn't, but now he certainly did. "This time of year there's really not much to do around the mountain unless a big ice storm rolls in and broken trees have to be cleared. Maybe once the new guest cabins are built there will be a little more work, but nothing that can't be delegated for an occasion such as this, and our only plans were to do a whole lot of nothing so.." he shrugged. Wyatt could be quite flexible with his plans, but he did like just that - having a plan. Maybe it was a bit of him being a control freak, or maybe it was anxiety. Maybe both. He definitely wanted to make a good impression on Lukas' parents. Wyatt had no memories of his own, which was probably for the best, given what he had written about them in his notes to his post-purification self. he really wasn't aware, however, of just how much he wanted some sort of parental figures in his life. Wyatt hadn't yet stopped to question whether or not Lukas was even on good terms with his parents or not. He'd never asked. After their big talk during their first Firewatch together, he'd not pushed for anything, letting Lukas tell him anything he felt like he needed to in his own time.

"Don't worry, sweetie, we will, we will! How about... We plan for two days from now? Gives yah all the time in the world to plan things and not overwork yah pretty little head, yeah?" Even now, with the roomkeys in hand, she was waving away and half dragging the bags to the elevator. There was this bit of... Hyperawareness she felt that she KNEW it was awkward to talk for far too long to your inlaws. ... Soon to be Inlaws. Probably. So no point in drawin' it out and just letting that sweet lad just overthink everything. "Ah! But atleast let us bring a small ham or something! Cuz I know them Heavenly baked hams are not only to die for, but they make excellent lunches for days after! And between you and me, It's Lukas's favorite holiday snack that can be bought. I swear the boy can eat a whole one all on his own! Eat it like a loaf of bread, he can!" With a ding, the elevator arrived, and both Diego and Clara gave small waves right before it closed before them. "And don't yah worry about us, mkay? We know all about them weird rumors here in the city! And we're old folk. We like being inside before the sun sets! So you take care now too, yah hear?"

"Have a nice stay!" Wyatt called as the doors of the elevator closed. He waited for a tell-tale ding to know that it was headed on up before swiftly grabbing his phone and firing off several texts in rapid succession; Your parents just checked in I'm not supposed to tell you. You aren't supposed to know. They are here to surprise you. I'll be a little late this afternoon gotta make a grocery run. With that done, the fidgeting set in. Luckily more people started rolling in for him to check in and keep his mind on-task and away from it's desire to frantically make a plan. after an hour the next person came in to take over, and although Wyatt would usually have patiently given them a run-down of everything, he clocked out as fast as he was able to, pausing only once he was in his truck to check his phone.

Lukas was mid throwing a bunch of garden waste over a fence when he heard the tell-tale boop boop of getting a text from his very special man. It was through him he had learned to take better care of this cursed technology nonsense, so it was a few minutes before he could respond, needing to wash hands and make sure they were dry before he cracked his phone for the umpteenth time. When he did though. Oh boy. It wasn't fear, no... That wasn't the right word for it... Shock? Anxiousness? Excitement and dread? So many emotions rolled in together all at once that it took a good 5 minutes of inner turmoil to actually find the words needed to respond. ... Welp, didn't expect them to meet you that way LMAO! We'll talk when you get home because.. OMFG. That was how you were supposed to do it.. Right? For the next hour, he made himself busy, slowly increasing his pace in his rummaging and anxious sorting until finally he heard the buzzing saying that his love had finally gotten off of work. Lukas just couldn't stop himself and made a mad finger dash to dial. "Wyatt... Gods please pick up..." He murmured to himself, biting his still-dirty nails in panic.

Sure enough, as soon as he was in the truck and took out his phone, it buzzed with an incoming call from Lukas. "Howdy, babe," Wyatt answered, cool as a cucumber. He had had time to plan now. He'd mentally listed and made boxes for his plans. Things were fine, everything would be fine. Probably. "I hope you haven't just made a bigger mess in any well-intentioned attempt to panic clean~" he teased as he turned the key in the ignition and started pulling out of the parking lot. He'd be hitting the grocery store before heading back home. He had a beast of a menu to buy for now, after all.

“Howdy…?” Why did hearing Wyatt say that surprise him? Gods, was his parents already rubbing off on him?? No, no, this wasn’t the time to be thinking about that, nope, he had other things in mind instead. “Never mind, anyway, nah, nah, I didn’t make no mess. I just.. You know.. Cleared the trails, dropped some extra salt down incase it ices… Scrubbed the toilets three times… Ehhhhh…. Did they say when they were coming? And if they were gonna stay up here? Oh but before all that, how was your day, love? Easy time? No rude guests? I love you, you know.” Each words shot out faster and faster as it was clear he was in panic mode, Unlike Wyatt, He didn’t roll with the punches all that well, atleast not when it came to his parents. “I just wanna, you know… Make sure YOU are okay too.”

Wyatt couldn't help but chuckle in amusement as his greeting seemed to throw Lukas, who already seemed quite frazzled. "Sounds like you've been busy. They're coming buy two days from now. They're staying at the hotel I'm working at, so no worries there. Maybe if the rental cabins were done they could stay at the park, but we've still only got the bunkhouse accommodations, and there's two families staying there already-" Which was great for the park to be getting business. "-I'm going to conveniently be making a lovely breakfast when they come visit, then I forth the idea of visiting the tourist shopping district afterwards. The rustic one not far from work, at the base of the mountain. I've been wanting to go, and maybe they'll distract you from nagging me too much about all the walking," Wyatt teased. "I promise not to over-do it on the walking though. If I start to hurt, I'll let you know, and we can go home where I will proceed to cook a feast that will be sure to impress - got to show them I'm feeding you well, after all." Wyatt was a good wifey. Then the sly grin could be heard in his voice, "And somewhere in there we're going to look at photo albums and I'm going to get all the embarrassing stories about young Lukas." He had it all planned out. Of course hid did. Anxiety demanded it.
