Quote: Prompt 8 (Mouse in the House): It’s snowing outside, and it’s going to keep snowing--all night long. They're not calling it a blizzard but it sure does feel like one. The power seems like it’ll stay on, which is good because it’s so cold outside. You’re safe and warm--but you’re not alone. At first, you might not notice anything. Maybe you see something move out of the corner of your eye, or hear something in the other room. It doesn’t take long to find the culprit: a mouse.
A mouse is sharing your living space, your shelter from the storm. On one hand, you don’t know where it’s been. On the other hand, it’s freezing outside, and it has big, sweet eyes. Do you have the heart to kick anything out in this weather? ...Do you really want that thing running around your place unchecked? Aimee looked out the window of the bookstore, frowning faintly. It seemed like the storm that was blowing up was getting quite a bit stronger, and the snow was starting to come down hard. At least there was only one other person here--that cute girl, Lynette, who had been coming in more often. She was a bit harebrained and a little ridiculous, but it was all in a way that reminded Aimee, in the best way, of Helena, and anything that made her think of Helena put her in a thoroughly good mood.
"If you want to get home," she warned, casually, "you should probably leave soon. The snow looks like it's piling up fast."
The forecasts had called for this, of course, but they hadn't said how severe it would be....Aimee looked out the window again, and frowned, faintly. It looked nasty out there, but she wasn't quite sure how to politely broach that Lynette just....stay here. With her. It would certainly be safer than trying to go anywhere.
She flipped the sign on the door to "CLOSED," not that she expected anyone else would be coming by.

Lynette was comfortable. She enjoyed this shop, enjoyed the books, the atmosphere, and honestly right now, she was far too comfortable to really want to leave. Or move.
It had been such a cold trip over here when she had arrived, and her nose had finally unfrozen…well, it had unfrozen an hour or so ago, but it had taken a while. In her lap was a book on mythical creatures from North America, and while she was trying to read it, she was a little distracted, her eyes slightly glazed as she glanced over at Aimee.
“It’s very cold outside…I know that I should go home but…” She really didn’t fancy it, and honestly, she wasn’t completely sure that she could walk.
Being a good girl was such a fantastic job, and she just wanted to continue to be so…even if it did cause…well. Cause her to be more than a little scatterbrained.
“It’s comfy here, you know, Aimee.”

Aimee looked back at Lynette, and there was the slightest tip of a frown on her face. She locked the door to the shop, and then stepped away from the door.
"My apartment is just upstairs," she said, "if you want to stay. I don't think I would feel good kicking you out into this, especially since it's just getting worse." She sighed, softly, and shook her head. "Why don't we close up here, and go upstairs? I have a fireplace, we can get comfortable, and I'll sleep on the couch if you stay overnight."
It seemed like a perfectly reasonable, polite offer, if you asked her, and it was certainly a better option than sending someone out into the cold.
Not when the snow was already piling up fast, and it just wasn't safe to be wandering around. After all, she had no idea how far away Lynette lived!

Lynette blinked slowly, the words taking a moment to process, but then she smiled, pleased, though her eyes closed for a moment, her breath coming in a short gasp. “Ah…Really? I wouldn’t…be an imposition to you, right? I’m…sure I’ll be all right to go home, if you want me to leave…I…” She pushed herself to her feet and put the book back onto the shelf where it lived.
“I do…enjoy the idea of a fire though…if…you really wouldn’t mind. You’re very nice, Aimee.”
Taking a few steps, Lynette bit her lip and put a complacent smile on her face. “How can I help you close up? I’m so glad that we’re friends…I could go home…but…I like the idea of staying with you if it’s really not a big deal…”
Aimee was pretty, and Lynette missed Mirzam…a lot.
"I really do think this is the best shop in the whole city, and that isn't me exaggerating at all."

Aimee shook her head, firmly.
"It's no imposition, sweetheart. I wouldn't offer if it would cause me any trouble!"She did, however, pause to send quick texts to her siblings, just to make sure they were alright--no reason not to check up on them, at least. They should both be tucked away safely, though. She wished she had a way to contact Helena, too--just to make sure she was alright, and not doing anything stupid, like going out powered in this weather.
"So, the biggest thing we need to do is try and clean things up a bit, though it's not too bad at all--and get the things people decided not to buy back on the shelves." She moved behind the register counter and produced a box, stacked with books and various sundries that had been abandoned. "It shouldn't take too long at all; there haven't been many people through today, and most of the customers who come here are careful, anyway. Like you."
A soft laugh passed her lips.
"I'm glad you like it here, darling. I'm always glad to see you when you come and visit."

Lynette nodded and was finally able to hurry over to the girl, eager to assist in any way that she could. “I’m always glad to visit you. You’re my second favorite person in the world, I think. You’re so smart, and funny and very pretty, too.” Lynette began to rifle through the box, pulling out some items she was familiar with, and walking them to their places, humming softly.
She wondered if Mirzam would mind that she thought someone else was pretty. That sometimes…her thoughts turned to Aimee when she was supposed to be thinking of the corrupt…but it was easy too.
Aimee was just…so nice. And her interests were utterly fantastic too.
“Seriously, thank you for inviting me…” She smiled and then glanced down, her eyes growing wide. “...I…Aimee…there is a mouse here.” The smile had faded, and honestly, for as willingly as Lynette ran into danger when it came to monsters and the supernatural…the sight of the large eared, dewy eyed rodent had her almost wanting to scream…but.
If she did that, Aimee would make fun of her, she was sure of it.

Aimee put a hand over her heart, making a mock-offended face. "Only your second favorite? I suppose I sohuld be happy to rank so highly, though." She hoped Lynette wasn't seeing someone; that would make things terribly awkward, since she really did sort of intend to seduce her.
Ah well. That was a problem for whoever it was.
Still, when Lynette pointed out the mouse, Aimee blinked, and turned, setitng down what she was putting away. Her expression softened, and she went over to it without hesitation, cooing softly.
"Oh, poor thing!" She said, and she bent to pick it up, and was surprised when it went easily. "It must be so cold...well, we can't turn it out to freeze. Out of the store, though; can't have it nibbling at the books." She sighed, petting the little mouse's back. "
"We can leave the cleanup down here for now, I think. Why don't we head upstairs, and see about tucking this little guy away."

Lynette nodded and took a few steps away from both Aimee and their little visitor, but nodded. “Ah…yeah. Please…but I…” She sighed. “Just keep him away from us okay? I don’t…like…” Mice.
“I can face monsters, lizard people and vampires, but I don’t like mice. It’s a curse, I think. But, upstairs sounds very good to me. And…I mean…second favorite is still very high!” She looked worried but shuddered again when the mouse came into her sight.
Lynette followed behind Aimee, looking forward to the night. A sleepover with such a good friend. It would be fantastic.
