Quote:
Prompt 4 (Fear and Feathers): The moon is bright tonight and reflects off of the snowy ground, illuminating everything with an ethereal glow. Destiny City feels almost safe, even at night. The fresh fallen snow seems undisturbed and brings a sense of peace. Only, nothing is ever as good as it seems, and there’s something eerie about it. After a while, it feels like someone--or something--is watching you. In the shadows of the trees, a set of milky eyes watches. Whatever it is, it’s tall and bulky. If you walk quickly, you feel it follow you but once you leave the line of trees, it disappears. If you try to approach it, a great beast will screech at you: a six foot tall snowy white owl takes flight. It may tackle or claw at you, depending on how you approach it, but it will always take flight and disappear in the night. If you choose to attack it, for the next few nights any time you look out your window you will see glowing eyes in the distance--or worse, hear it scratching to get in. Eventually, the temperature rises and the visits stop. For now.

Note: The owl is not a youma but can be used as a battle requirement for a character. It can only be used as a battle if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered to count this for a battle. If you repeat the prompt with the same character, only one will count for a battle requirement. The owl will not appear to have any magical abilities and seems to simply be a very large, aggressive owl.

They'd been lucky. Ariadne was right about the coffee shop; she'd been there once or twice before while powered up, as the nights got longer and the days got colder, and as long as you produced cash, no one seemed to care if you were wearing a fancy, lacy dress that looked like something that would belong to the Bride of Dracula. So she'd been able to get herself and Lacerta hot drinks, picked up a sufganiyot because the owners were Jewish and Hannukuh was over but fried pastries are forever, and they'd had a chance to sit by the coffee shop's fireplace, warm up, and generally recover a little from Lacerta's nasty ordeal.

It was nice, was what she was saying, and when they stepped outside after they finished, she was hopeful that it was at least going to be a relatively quiet rest of their night.

"You can hold onto that sweater," Ariadne said. "I'm sure there'll be a chance for you to give it back to me later. Court meeting, or something." They probably had those. Ariadne was aware of one or two. Maybe another one would happen eventually.

Anyway, she could always get another sweater, and Lacerta needed it more than she did.

She started to walk down the street, but stopped.

She could feel eyes on her, and that made her lips turn down into a distressed frown. No, she did not have the emotional energy for any more bullshit tonight--and yet Destiny City seemed to have decided to visit bullshit upon her, as it so often did.

"Do you....feel that?" She asked Lacerta, and she didn't bother pretending she was anything but monumentally unhappy about this whole situation.

And then she saw it. In one of the trees that lined the outdoor space near the coffee shop--two big, white eyes, staring at her.

"Hey!" She shouted, storming over to the thing. "Get outta here!"

It was probably an animal. If she was loud and tough, she would startle it, and it would fly off, and this would all just be a bad memory.

The idea of going into a shop as her powered self was unusual for Lacerta. Her outfit was probably less flashy than Ariadne's but she was glad that the sweater at least hid the top of her fuku. That would be hard to explain away, wouldn't it? Given the fact that after a few impolite stares as soon as cash was exchanged for goods they were promptly forgotten - Lacerta began to relax and even enjoy this strange outing. Her gaze ticked to Ariadne before she gave the other senshi a knowing smile. She could possibly make a habit of this if Ariadne wanted the company. Fingering the sweater that hid the top half of her uniform Lacerta listened to what Ariadne was saying before nodding.

"There are a few meetings here and there. I've been only to one that was called after that park brawl. If you don't mind me hanging onto it then the next time we meet I can return it."

Taking a sip of her hot chocolate Lacerta allowed the warmth of the drink to ease through her. The icy puddle still remained a mystery but by no means was Lacerta willing to try and solve it. One icy dip had been enough in her books.

As they exited the coffee shop Lacerta made a note to memorize the name of the place. She had a feeling that she may come back to this locale. She was generally in better spirits until Ariadne asked if she felt anything.

Had she just been mentally ignoring the sense of uneasiness, passing it off as residual trauma from her icy bath earlier? Or was she just hoping that nothing else could happen in such a short time? Whatever was the case Lacerta gave a curt nod to Ariadne before catching sight of the large milky, white eyes that watched them from a location that was too close to comfort. Like Ariadne she neared the area but she made no effort to agitate the creature. Unless it attacked first - she had no reason to strike back.

It would be nice, Ariadne supposed, to meet up with Lacerta again. The more friends she made in the Court, the better, and the safer she'd be if she ever got in a situation that went sideways again.

The downside was that she was feeling a little bit insane at the moment, since she was yelling at a tree--until a frankly massive owl came swooping out of the branches.

Aridane had no idea how that thing had tucked itself away in there, but it was the size of an entire person, and she shrieked as it dove at her. She slammed her hands into it, doing her best to use her magical strength to shove it away, but it was heavy enough to knock her to the ground, and she felt its talons rake over her arms. It let out a loud shriek, and then flew into the night on wings that barely made a sound.

"What ," she gasped, and she brought her arms down, frowning. The claw marks looked kind of nasty, but they didn't seem to be bleeding too badly--they just hurt.

Seeing what it was that launched itself out of the tree Lacerta only reacted. Ariadne seemed to be in danger and without even thinking about it the teen glanced at the ring on her finger. She'd activate it in order to provide a little bit of protection for herself and maybe get in a lucky strike on the immense bird of prey. Did owls even grow to be that big? Her gaze locked on the owl's massive wingspan as it swooped down to attack. At first she wasn't even sure if she'd manage to land a blow but as she triggered the ring's activation by pressing it into her opposite palm the senshi of bandages lashed out at the owl and managed to score at least one strike on the creature's stomach as Ariadne had shoved it towards her approximate location. The owl's shriek had Lacerta wanting to cover her ears but instead she watched as the oversized bird took to the skies.

Shaking her head at the weirdness Lacerta paused to assess the results of her strike and felt the tickling sensation of feathers in her hand. Well that proved that she had actually did some damage. Ariadne's gasp and expletive that followed alerted Lacerta to a job that she could do for her fellow dark mirror.

She crouched down to examine the claw marks that the owl had given Ariadne before glancing around. "I can heal those if you want it done," taking a moment to search the skies lest the owl return as she was distracted Lacerta placed her left hand over the worst of the marks and gave a soft sigh before activating her strongest healing magic: it'd work best in this case, "Lacerta's Miracle Growth."

It took only microseconds for the glowing bandages to appear and wrap around Ariadne's injured arm - she'd repeat her magic if it was needed again.

Quote:
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Lacerta's Miracle Growth
Lacerta will touch an injury on either herself or an ally and whisper her attack. A soft glowing bandage will appear and wrap the injury in a thin layer of bandage-like material. After twenty seconds the bandage will disappear. At this stage superficial bruises and cuts are healed rapidly (injuries from her sailor attack.) Larger lacerations (ones that go into the dermis), grade 1 sprains, and more significant bruises can be healed satisfactory. (( If a laceration goes further down into the skin than the dermis the magic will just stop the immediate bleeding ))

This attack can be used three times per battle. However Lacerta can only use it once on herself.

It really was lucky, Ariadne realized, that she'd found Lacerta. For one, the woman seemed to have some kind of magical ability that was beyond regular Senshi powers, but for another, she was a healer, which was great when Ariadne had been scratched to hell by nasty magic owl talons.

"Go ahead," Ariadne said, not that she needed to wait. She extended her arms, to let the other Senshi's magic sink in, and then waited for it to run its course. When it was done, there were still marks on her skin, but they were almost entirely faded, and she let out a relieved breath.

"Thank you," she said. "Lucky we ran into each other tonight." She pushed herself to her feet, and offered Lacerta a hand.

"Let's, uh. Maybe take a shortcut through Mirrorspace? On our way out of here? There's probably nothing that's going to make this night worse in Mirrorspace."

She paused, and cracked a smile.

"Also, you can like, extra keep the sweater now. Consider it my thanks for saving my a**."

It seemed, then, that she had made a new friend, which made all the bad circumstances feel just a bit less terrible..

Lacerta eyed Ariadne's injury after the glowing bandages disappeared and gave a succinct nod. She really was glad for her sphere of bandages. It allowed her to contribute in a different way in battle to keep her comrades able to fight if need be. "You are welcome," fell automatically from her lips as Ariadne thanked her. Glancing back down at the feathers that she still held Lacerta passed one over to her new friend with a rueful grin, "a memento of our adventures together this evening?"

It was lucky that they had run into each other tonight. Ariadne had saved her and in return she had been able to heal Ariadne. The offer to keep the sweater that she had been loaned was an unexpected bonus. She nodded in response to Ariadne's suggestions before discarding all but one more of the feathers she had grabbed.

She tucked a feather away for herself and strode in the direction of the nearest mirror location that she and Ariadne could use for their shortcut. It was safer to use mirrorspace when one didn't know of the dangers that still lurked in the skies above Destiny City.
