Prompt 2 (Paint the Night Sky): Destiny City has already had its fair share of snowfall but for the past week it’s just been constant. There hasn’t been a clear sky in days, and even when it’s not snowing it’s still too cloudy to see anything. Finally, one night, the clouds have finally thinned--only to reveal something more surprising than the suddenly good weather. A glorious display of colorful light dances over Destiny City. Auroras are uncommon in this area, but it’s something unique to see. Especially because it almost seems like the colors blend like watercolors, and look like they’re deliberately weaving around each other.
Nearly 20 year-old Dria trudged home through the snow, tiredly. School had been exhausting. She was still trying to get her Core Classes done. Work was exhausting - she was still doing grunt work at her family's Engineering Business, and now she was expected to go home and help with the family - Dad who ran the business, Mom, who was the engineer, Aunt Claudia who also worked there, and was studying to be a doctor, Dria's younger sister Dani, 12 years old and in middle School, her year-old twin brothers Darrell and Darren, and Dria's twin brother, Drew's cat, Darius Ammun. It was crowded in the home and would have been more crowded if Dria's twin brother Drew was there. He was a new police officer, off on a training sabatical - or at least that was what he had told every one. Dria, Dani, and Darius (that 's a long story) knew where he really was (on his Homeworld of Etamin - but that was a story for a different day). Dria's parents were thinking it was time for Drew, Dria and Aunt Dia (Claudia) to out on their own (they were trying to find places) especially as it was getting very crowding in a 4 bedroom house with 7 occupants.
Suddenly a faint beam of light fell upon Dria. She was startled for it had been dark and cloudy for the last week and the snowfall had been continous. Have the clouds parted at last? She wondered as she stopped and looked up. Indeed they had, and even stranger, there was a aurora. How? There were alot of gasps. Children who didn't remember the last time, let out laughs of glee. Younger teenagers were astonished, while older teenagers and their parents who like Dria, remembered the last time this happened here, let out gasps of horror. No good could come of this. Many began to hurry home, to safety. Dria stayed where she was preparing herself for battle if it came.
As she watched the sky for answers, the colors did weird things like weave around each other and blend like watercolors. Nothing seemed to happen otherwise. She noticed that most people were gone and only young remained. They were either unwise and wanted just to watch the light show, or like her, waiting for possible battle.
Hours passed. The light show started to fade away as did the young people, either from boredom or the fact that there did not seem to be a battle worthy reason to stay. Finally the show ended, and there was no one left except Dria. I hope nothing comes of this. There seems to be no danger. I'm going home. My family needs me, they're probably worried, and I am cold, tired and hungry. Dria thought. I will have to make up some excuse. She frowned. I hate lying to them.
She began the long track home, trying to think of an excuse. As she did, her thoughts turned the last time an Aurora showed up in Destiny City. Drew ended up in the hospital. There! There was her excuse. She saw the Aurora and thinking of Drew, she ducked inside till inside till was over. And luckily, for her, she couldn't have called because her phone was dead. And hey, 'the phones in the building she hid in weren't working either, and no one had a cell phone that was charged.' She'd still get a earful, but that was okay, it was because they loved her.
