Quote:
Prompt 7 (Snowbunnies): Winter seems to bring out the cutest of all rodents; this isn’t the first time that small, white rabbits have infested Destiny City. They’re small, rarely larger than a guinea pig, and have large eyes and wiggling noses. They are always pure white and seem to show up whenever there’s snow. They aren't menacing or evil, they're just everywhere. They seem strangely domesticated; they are sweet, curious, and friendly creatures that will eat anything you give them. They always seem cold to the touch, and when they shake, little snowflakes sprinkle off of them.

While they seem to be social creatures who seem to appreciate anything warm and will cuddle up to steal body heat, they are too skittish and fast to be kept for pets. They can show up just about anywhere, either alone or--often--in pairs. They tend to wander off on their own without any trouble, but if you surprise them or try to catch or hurt them, they may bite. Their little teeth are enough to break skin, but after one bite they run away. The bite itself isn’t bad, but the effects are a bit unpleasant: for roughly two days after the bite, the injury is cold and the victim will feel random, cold, shooting pains. Their core body temperature will drop and they will often be sent into random fits of shivering. No medicine seems to help, and no amounts of blankets or hot baths can soothe the chill. You're just going to have to deal with it and hope it gets better…

Most experiences with the bunnies are perfectly pleasant, you just have to worry about them burrowing. There are holes peppering Destiny City, and with the fresh fallen snow it can be impossible to tell where they are hiding. The holes range from small holes to several feet deep, so can be a minor inconvenience to a potential hazard. On the bright side, sometimes you wind up covered in bunnies looking for warmth from their sudden guest. On the other hand, there are a rising number of trips to the hospital for twists and sprains. The bunnies always leave with the snow, so best to enjoy them--or avoid them--for as long as you can.

The park was quiet tonight, although it was perhaps not that surprising given the lateness of the hour.

It was pretty though, with the moonlight shining down on the snow covered ground and the tinsel interlinked with Christmas lights had been gaily strung up, wrapping around lamp poles and linking them together in cheerful festivity–

Well at least Iðavöllr thought that it looked cheerfully festive.

She had been a little nervous initially about crossing through the park, what with all the reports about aggressive reindeer running around - but had taken a chance and done so anyway, because she hadn't wanted to particularly have to end up taking the longer route through town.

There hadn't been any reindeers as yet however - at least not so far.

Maybe reindeer didn't like parks.

Maybe. Iðavöllr wasn't about to rest on her laurels though - at not just yet and most likely not until she was powered back down as Saffron and tucked back up in her apartment and preferably with a hot drink such as that rum-laced hot chocolate that she'd brought as a treat because it seemed awfully seasonal.

She found herself thinking on the trip that she had taken to her Wonder as she walked, about the ghost that was apparently her ancestor and the fact that she was apparently a knight - well more a Page - a Page of Polaris.

Truthfully the visit had left her with more questions, not least the fact that there was no mention of any magical ghosts on the family tree - well at least not as far as she could see–

But given that nothing had happened when she had tried to go back a couple of weeks after that first visit, it seemed that her questions would have to stay unanswered for now.

Iðavöllr thought on what little she did know.

  • when she powered up like this she was called Iðavöllr
  • she had a Wonder by the same name
  • she had an outfit that made her look like an Arendelle extra - and yes she totally pulled it off, but still
  • she was a Page
  • her Wonder had a ghost that had called herself her ancestor
  • the ghost had told her that she could sense auras - no wait scratch that, the talking cat had told her that one
  • she had found a ring in the ice flowers and the ring had once belonged to the ghost
  • Iðavöllr was also the name of the building that she had come across and the ghost had referred to it as the Hall of Iðavöllr
  • oh and she apparently had a Christmas tree ornament as a 'weapon'

Iðavöllr frowned as she caught a flicker of something, something warm, one part of her wondering if this was the aura thing that Liryn had mentioned and another part of her wishing that the small tabby bobtailed talking cat was with her so that she could actually ask him - only for thoughts of auras or otherwise to disappear completely from her mind, as a shape chose that particular moment to pop out of the snow–

Right in the spot where Iðavöllr had been about to tread down on.

Aura–no, Balea was finally out being…well. Herself. She had avoided this whole…nonsense since she had first found the strange enchanted ring and met the overly caffeinated figure skater…three years? Pushing four now, hm? Well. Whatever. It wasn’t that she had found any need to power up and defend the poor unfortunate souls in this town…she couldn’t defend her own poor unfortunate self thank you very much.
But…the rumors of odd things had reached her…and tonight, Balea found herself again clad in the rich purple jacket and sky blue vest with the odd blue pants once again…and even though she felt silly…well.

She also felt a bit stronger.

It was helpful when there was the feeling of…of something nearby, someone in a blue dress, who was about to step…

“Hold up! There’s a rabbit right under where your foot is coming down, don’t crush the poor thing!”

Well…that was heroic, yeah? Saving rabbits from being stepped on. The stuff of legends.

Surprise had had Iðavöllr jerking back - or at the very least trying - although it had ended up more like her trying to awkwardly balance on one boot–

Even so, she might have just about managed to regain her balance if not for the voice that had chosen that particular moment to pipe up, causing her to lose her concentration.

Iðavöllr made a startled sound of surprise that turned into a half squawk as she stumbled over - although given that she had tumbled backwards rather than forwards, her foot had at least managed to miss the emerging–

Well whatever the thing was.

She could have done without the snow landing too - but at least it was the soft sort of snow and not the dense solid sort that would have probably left a bruise–

There was that at any rate.

Balea winced when the other woman fell, though it…was a very good thing that she had missed the rabbit, unless the fall had caused some unknown pain to the other page but.

Moving over, she held out a hand and gave a sheepish smile. “Whoops. Didn’t mean for you to fall, just didn’t want any squished bunny patties or anything. I hope that counts for keeping the innocent safe, because if it does, I’ve filled up my quota.” For the night? Week? Year? Who could really be sure.

“I like your dress. I’m not one for dresses myself but, it looks cozy and comfortable. You’re like me, yeah? I can feel you, so I’m hoping that’s the case. If I’m wrong, then…just forget I spoke and we can go our separate ways so long as you promise to watch out for rabbits.” Part of her hoped this was someone like she was though. It would be nice to be able to learn more about things. Just on the off chance that she wanted to participate in…all of the goings on. Which, she honestly didn’t think she did but. The option was always nice.

A part of Iðavöllr was also relieved that she had taken to bringing her own gloves along with her–

Because her outfit didn't seem to come with any and bare hands and cold snow would have been well cold and a little ugh.

She blinked up at the other Page for a few moments, before reaching up with a hand covered in a somewhat damp glove as she parroted "Quota?"

Was she somehow missing something? Because she certainly felt like she was missing something.

Iðavöllr put aside the other's comment about somehow 'feeling' her, deciding (at least for the moment) to ignore it in favour of the other part of her comment that they were like each other and that the other woman liked her dress.

"Ah thank you" she said once properly back on her feet because Saffron and therefore Iðavöllr by extension wasn't one to turn down a sincere compliment. "Are you a Page too, by chance?"
