Welcome to the Negaverse

OOC Stuff
Hi everyone! This is an orientation that takes place on November 5th ICly and focuses on supporting the ~dozen new forced corruptions that happened during the meta. That said, any Negaverse character is able to attend / ask questions / seek resources etc!

All topics will be posted up-front, so players can either RP their character asking questions afterward, or have their character mull over the information for 500 words. Please use this ORP as a stepping stone for your character to begin building connections in the Negaverse, or expanding their networks of contacts!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask by PMing or DMing me!

The day was an auspicious one; he managed to arrange a time that worked with many of the Negaverse's more productive members and convinced most of them, however willing, to give a speech on an aspect of the Handbook. Faustite's human-wrangling worked out well enough that he hadn't needed to speak on any one topic; it was better, he supposed, to let the humans talk to the humans.

Messages had been sent to every tablet, informing the Negaverse that an orientation was scheduled for the 'new hires'. All were invited, however; whether to ask their own questions or provide their own resources or shill for their teams, the added input might somehow be useful.

Once the double doors to the cavernous auditorium opened, Faustite stood at one side of the entrance with Headache, his incorrigible youma, flanking the other side of the door. The collusion of fireflies condensed down into a single, coherent form, being that of Faustite's Captain appearance (at which Faustite frowned), and assisted with directing entrants to free seats. Each chair faced the stage, where a podium marked the center and a lectern stood atop it.

Tables were pushed to the walls, and on them sat basic refreshments from someone who was clearly on a budget -- tea, coffee, and juice were available in carafes, a few dishes of assorted bagels with various spreads, and snack packs of pretzels, cookies, and candies.

The Negaverse and You

Faustite and Headache finished the trial of guiding everyone into chairs, and the pair rejoined as Headache dissolved into a glitter of fireflies. Faustite walked up the center aisle, pausing only to touch on Lysithea's shoulder, while the halo of fireflies swept ahead, and gathered before Albite. Together, the strange flies formed the image of a traffic light idling on red.

Faustite reached the metal podium, framed it with his hands. Swallowed. "Welcome to orientation," he announced coolly, as flame eyes lighted on various occupants in the audience. "General Faustite speaking. Today you will learn the Negaverse, the White Moon from whence you came, and the Negaverse's staple topics. You will learn from senshi, agents, and youmafied officers like myself. At the end, we will provide resources that will assist your seating in the Negaverse. Questions come afterward.

"First," Faustite drew a breath and half turned, and the cloud of fireflies blinked green in front of Albite. "Super Sailor Albite will inform you about the Negaverse."

“The Negaverse and You!”

“Sup to all my newly conscripted bro’s and recently inducted ho’s! Today we’re gonna talk about our place in this space. I’m taking Chaos outta it. Cause for all that you’re gonna hear that word -- a lot -- from people not me, even? It’s like, outdated? Especially considering how this is a highly regimented, militaristic organization, whose sole goal is the ‘Betterment of All’. We’ve got Hospitals, schools, barracks, hot meals; don’t let the drab motif of the castle underground drag you down. It’s good here. I swear. You can be happy, you can have a life, you can get s**t done?”

They had resources to spare, and an organization of factions that functioned when someone put a boot up an a** just enough to get it there. Still better than the real world, sometimes. A free place to sleep and eat, if nothing else? All they asked in return - quotas - which was way cheaper than paying rent.

“Can’t be chaos if you're getting s**t done! It’s why they take us Senshi in, even though some of us are sidelined from the otherside of the moon. We’re still welcome, and why? Because it’s Better. Scouts honor, cross my heart, if anyone is making it the opposite of that….” and Albite didn’t have a speech prepared on paper, so much as he was just winging it. Henshin pen in his hand creaked though, for the pressure he put on it at the thought of -- of people making things difficult for their hard won conscripts. Newly minted sisters and brothers in arms.

“Talk to someone above them. Captains, Generals, our stunning Sovereigns. There’s people who’re gonna go over branches n’ such. So lisn’ to them.”

“Everyone higher up gets offices, the rank n file system is laid out in your handbook. Read It. Deadass - open those pens, scroll ‘em out into tablet mode, and for the love of all that exists! Read what's in it - I dunno, schedule out five minutes a day if it’s a lot to digest? If you hate the way words look, I will take you out and we’ll experience it? Yeah? Or your General, or Captain, whoever’s holding your hand baby-step style through all this.” pause for effect and pause to let the audience breathe because he wasn’t sure if he was, but he wasn’t losing anymore people.

Wasn’t gonna play party too - whatever seemed to break everyone down. Loss compounded upon loss that ground people up. All these new shiny starseeds with faces before him? He was gonna get them kept, so ******** hard.

“Quick warnings - Shadow door, the one with all the screaming? Bad, do not enter, stay the ******** out, etc. There's a hall of traitors around here somewhere - it’s cool - take a tour of it maybe. Someone’s gonna go over youma too, and half youma. For me personally, my own experience? Has been that youma are our friends, but! We still have to be careful, because Senshi are goddamned delicious, and so are baby lieutenants. We just can’t help it, which means we have to keep our starseeds nice n’ safe. Do Not - I repeat - Do Not - go whipping those things out at random and ‘just for funsies’ - it’s your soul for hecks sake’. Keep it tucked up nice n’ safe. Like--like it’s your last dollar on this Earth, kinda safe.” laid the emphasis on thick while he paced, while he looked them all over, hopeful for how he wanted to bound off and snatch them all up under his ample bosom to keep safe.

Wouldn’t work if he smothered ‘em though. New people needed room to breathe. Needed space and chances to ask things.

“If anyone’s got any questions? I’m here - we’re all here. I’m not gonna drown y’all with stuff on medals, quotas, and upgrades. You learn that stuff while you work - you get better at it as you go along -- and most importantly? You’ll be okay. I promise.”

He promised.

The White Moon

Faustite let Headache direct; it was smarter than Squiddy, more capable. He frowned at it as it greenlit Aquamarine without his saying so.

Faustite had taken the podium temporarily; fond of touching it, the thing sported scorch marks on the side of its lectern. He looked out at the audience – no one was asleep yet. "General Aquamarine will speak on the White Moon." He passed the blonde General as he stepped down.

Add public speaking to the list of things Aquamarine utterly despised.

It wasn’t that he was anxious or nervous about speaking in front of other people. It was more than he didn’t particularly care. They had a training guide and a database. If new recruits couldn’t figure things out for themselves with the help of their own superior officers…

Focus. Getting carried away wouldn’t bring this to an end any sooner.

Anyone who didn’t already know General Aquamarine might wonder if the scowl on his face was a result of Albite’s exuberance, or if he didn’t actually want to be there in the first place. The answer would likely be some combination of the two, but they would also soon learn that was just how his face worked on a day to day basis.

“The White Moon army is made up of Senshi and Knights,” Aquamarine said, reciting straight from the training guide.

His memory extended further than that, but he figured the situation warranted tailoring the information to the new crowd.

“All of you were once among them. Consider yourself fortunate that you have since been liberated. You might hear some of your fellow senshi and agents referring to the White Moon as Order. Don’t do that. The term has never been relevant. The White Moon offers minimal structure and even less cohesion. They often war among themselves, likely a result of their belonging to different worlds.

“They are an invasive pest. They do not belong on Earth. They are attempting to invade. Case in point, they facilitated what might have amounted to an alien invasion in an effort to destroy us, if we weren’t already allied with the aliens in question. The White Moon is relentless in their pursuit of Earth and will try again. They will try to tempt you with ideals of love and peace that they do not believe. In the past, they have captured our own, they have tortured us, they have killed our family, our friends, and our allies, and they have invaded our realm, the Dark Kingdom, in the name of their own worlds and their royals.”

Aquamarine’s delivery was not particularly passionate, but his voice was strong and sure. He stood straight and proud at the front of the room. His gaze, however, remained suspicious as his eyes swept over their newest members. They were welcomed, to an extent, but they would have to earn his trust.

“You are encouraged to share whatever information you may remember about your time among the White Moon. Be cautious in your future dealings with them, but learn what you can from them. Remember that they are not your friends, no matter what platitudes they may spout. They are deceptive. Those that don’t seem aggressive often use love and kindness as their weapons of choice. Under no circumstances should you fraternize with the enemy. They will use it to their advantage. Learn what you can from them, then dispose of them or recruit them. If you take your relations beyond that, you will have your superiors to answer to.”

Aquamarine cast his gaze around again, to ensure they were all listening, and listening well.

“No matter what pretty words they feed you,” he said, “remember that they are our enemy. Earth, our home, is their goal. We must not let them have it.”

Youma

Headache, being a swarm of light-manipulative fireflies, often used traffic signs and signals for its meanings, but it disliked using the same signs too many times. As Aquamarine returned to his seat behind the podium, the swarm formed a ONE WAY sign in front of Carnotite and pointed it toward the stage.

The lightshow of a Captain seemed exuberant enough about the task to introduce herself; Faustite saw no reason to bar her that, and remained at the side of the stage as she moved for the podium.

"Thank you for that, General Aquamarine," said the woman with orbs of light flickering above her head. Electricity zipped through her hair in glowing streaks, her three eyes all aglow in turn. Golden, metal hands were clasped loosely before her. Bowing her head briefly to the General as he left the podium, she made her way into the vacated space with a smile whose luminosity rivaled the rest of her illuminated self. Lucretia Fiore was hardly one to shy from the spotlight, as it was, and standing before others in a public speaking venue felt like slipping on a pair of well-loved gloves. Her eyes moved slowly over the collected group, closing her third eye upon her forehead after she felt a suitable length of time had passed for others to see the inhuman feature.

It was easier to see people when she didn't have the overlays of normal vision, and electrical signals vision.

"Hello, everyone. I am Captain Carnotite, a youmafied, or half-youma, officer. As you can already see between General Faustite and myself, this can lead to a wide variety of fascinating appearances and powers. Before I get into a bit more information about an officer becoming youmafied, however, it's best to go over the basics of:

What is a Youma?"

She paused for a brief moment, hands shifting to clasp behind her back to take on a more composed stance.

"Youma are loyal servants and tools of the Negaverse that live within a large region of Negaspace known as the Rift. They do not need food, or sleep, and instead recover energy while within the Rift, or by draining energy, or consuming starseeds. Do keep in mind this latter method is ill-advised if it can be avoided. If they are destroyed outside of the Rift--sometimes referred to as dusted--they will reform within the Rift after up to three days. Exceptions to this is if they are struck by a Royal Senshi's tiara magic, or a Royal Knight's sword. That damage is permanent, and they will be lost forever.

For Negaverse Senshi, and Mauvians, please keep in mind that youma will not be fond of you, or especially willing to work with you, unless you are an Ascended Negaverse Senshi. As Albite has said, senshi and lieutenants come off as more like snacks to youma, rather than superior officers to be obeyed. There are of course the occasional exception to this, but do not approach a youma carelessly, and certainly do not enter the Rift without proper research and an accompanying higher ranked agent. This goes for all agents, as well as senshi and Mauvians. The Rift is their home, and there are many youma who will react with hostility to rude intruders.

There are three types of youma: Feral, Humanoid, and the Greater Youma. Do note the classifications are based on the youma's processing capabilities, not it's appearance.

Feral youma are the most common variety you will likely encounter, and are more willing to obey simple orders of all agents. Humanoid youma are capable of more complex tasks, and are able to think for themselves--they're more inclined to follow the orders of a General and above, if they are not bound to a specific agent. A Greater Youma is an extremely old, extremely powerful youma. Only Queen Laurelite herself, and Metallia, can command a Greater Youma, do not forget this, though your chances of running across one would be particularly slim.

Agents may summon youma from the Rift, but be aware you are effectively creating an open door for whatever is closest to come out. Generals are more capable of summoning specific youma, but even large groups are difficult.

As I have said, agents may bond with a youma, known then as a personal youma. This is only possible for agents who are a Captain or higher, and is not possible for Negaverse Senshi. They may be summoned to aid the agent, and may not be summoned by others… save higher ranking individuals, but their bonded agent's orders are the priority. Do note this is a permanent bond, as you and your partner youma become a team. Should you create such a strong bond, learn to use it to your best advantage. Do not squander it."

Again, Carnotite gave a small moment for a pause, aware it was a bit of information to digest. Taking a breath, she smiled again. "I will lastly touch on a subject I am particularly fond of, if one couldn't tell--half-youmafication. The exact process behind such an event varies. Some people seek it, some do not. One thing that remains the same, is that agents who become half-youma are no longer able to power down. We may take on glamours to appear human, and engage with the general public outside of Negaspace, but these are only for a few hours at a time, and we must still return to Negaspace. You will find such agents live here within Negaspace, though it does not mean we lose all ability to pursue hobbies, jobs, and so on. We must simply keep our glamour restrictions in mind.

Please be aware, this is only possible for agents. Should senshi attempt such a merging… it will not end well for you. You'll be more likely to just destroy the youma you are trying to merge with, or become a full youma yourself. Do not be so reckless, do not throw away your potential with the Negaverse. Even agents, I would warn you against willy-nilly seeking such things out. Speak to your superior officers, speak to other agents who are already half-youma, and truly think about what you are considering. This is not a choice that can be undone later."

Once more, Carnotite opened her third eye, looking carefully over the audience to make her point as clear as she could. While she did not regret her own choices… her choice was not suitable for all, and she would rather see an agent remain unchanged than risk being devoured needlessly by a youma. Nodding her head slightly, she stepped back for the next speaker to take their position.

Energy and Starseeds

Faustite scoffed toward the end of her speech, though there was little to determine if it was due to the speech itself or a reminder that it gave him. When Carnotite left the stage, flame eyes followed her to her seat; Headache was already in front of Jet with a RIGHT OF WAY sign.

Faustite watched Carnotite once more as she stepped down, then took the podium himself. "Next topic is energy and starseeds. Jet," he added as he looked back at the General. Once Jet began moving toward the podium, Faustite left the auditorium through a side door.

“My name is General Jet,” he said with a small but warm smile as he looked at the new recruits. While the others were speaking on their topics, Jet took the time to really look at each of them. He would match names to faces later, but all of them had the chance to be great assets to the Negaverse. And if they weren’t, well… he would have to handle things at that point in time.

“With the White Moon constantly trying to harm us, it is important that we collect as much energy as possible. Energy is what strengthens the Negaverse and will help us protect and defend us from enemy attacks. It should be a natural ability for every member of the Negaverse, but practice and experience will help make it easier,” he explained and then turned to Aquamarine and waited until he approached. “This is what it should look like when you’re gathering energy,” he demonstrated and held out his hand a short distance from Aquamarine, pulling what looked like a pinprick of light at first, but then it grew to the size of a marble.

“Does that hurt at all?”

Aquamarine approached and seemed only minimally affected. He frowned at Jet like he would when he thought someone had asked a stupid question.

“No,” he said — curt and to the point. What would be the purpose of embellishing?

Jet nodded when Aquamarine said no, and turned to the group again to show them the small orb he’d collected.

“Draining energy is typically painless. It’s also renewable. If taken from a civilian, they would just need to sleep it off. It is not often that civilians are willing to understand why this energy is so important. We could explain to them that it’s to protect Earth, but that would likely be met with skepticism, or even hostility. For your own protection, it is usually safer to take energy when the donors aren’t aware of it happening. Thank you,” he said to Aquamarine as he let the orb of energy return to him.

“Usually those with the lowest ranks are assigned to collect the most energy. It will help get you some needed experience, which will help to develop your interests, so you can decide which areas you would like to focus on as you move up the ranks. You will be assigned quotas of energy to gather, which can be saved directly into your subspace for safekeeping until you return to the Dark Kingdom.

“The other source of energy that is just as important is starseeds. Albite mentioned before that a starseed is your life force, and should be protected at all costs. Not every officer will be expected to pull a starseed. I personally do not pull starseeds of civilians unless absolutely necessary, since they are more useful as a renewable resource of energy.

“But the sure way to stop a Senshi or Knight from being able to harm anyone again would be to remove their starseed. Destroying the starseed means they would never be able to be reborn, but Metallia has better use for the starseeds intact. They are delicate and it is not advisable to destroy them.

“However, you should also make sure you keep an extra starseed with you for emergencies. If you are seriously injured and eat a starseed, it should restore a lot of your energy and help the healing process. Please treat starseeds with respect. They are someone’s honorable sacrifice that will help the Negaverse and Earth. Aquamarine?” he asked then, turning once more to look at the other General.

“I’m going to show you all how to take out a starseed. You should be able to feel it when you use the energy in your own bodies to search for one, but this is what it will look like,” he explained as he held out his arm for Aquamarine, obviously with the intention of holding him up when he could no longer remain standing.

Aquamarine drew closer and made an effort not to roll his eyes. A demonstration might be beneficial to their new recruits, but he didn’t have to enjoy it. (Soon enough, they’d come to realize Aquamarine didn’t enjoy much of anything, if they couldn’t tell already.)

He settled himself against Jet and into the crook of his arm. Aquamarine’s frown never left his face, but he didn’t appear tense or particularly worried.

“Removing a starseed isn’t normally this…”

Aquamarine couldn’t choose an appropriate word. Simple? It could be simple, depending on the circumstance. Sensual? That would be more accurate maybe, but more revealing than he cared for.

Instead, he waved the thought off with a flick of his hand and met Jet’s gaze when he was ready.

“Be gentle with it,” he said, voice flat even as the smallest trace of a smirk appeared on his face. “It’s my first time.”

Jet nodded in quiet understanding. Of course he would be gentle. He didn’t want to cause Aquamarine any unnecessary pain or damage his starseed in any way. He adjusted his own hold around Aquamarine and placed his hand against Aquamarine’s chest.

Very carefully, he allowed the Chaos to help him press his hand inside, but he was cautious about not introducing any additional Chaos to Aquamarine’s starseed. He didn’t want to accidentally turn him into a youma or worse.

“You okay? Just breathe. I’ve got you,” he promised, his voice soft enough for just Aquamarine to hear as he wrapped his fingers around the starseed inside him. And then when he was sure that Aquamarine was ready, he very carefully drew it out, prepared for him to go limp.

“This is a starseed,” he showed the new recruits, and anyone else there that might have never seen one before. To him, Aquamarine’s was probably the most beautiful starseed he’d ever seen. But then again, no other starseed that he’d pulled had been gifted with Metallia’s energy.

“He’s not dead, don’t worry. The body will live for a short amount of time before the starseed can’t be returned. It is not common for someone to die immediately after having their starseed taken, unless it was done with so much force that their body can’t handle it. Destroying a starseed will kill someone, but we’re not here to destroy starseeds,” he reminded them, having heard of an incident during the battle on the hilltop concerning one of the aliens.

“Let me reiterate this again,” Jet said, “you do not have to pull starseeds if you do not feel up to the task. They are a vital resource, but their removal should be left to those who are most capable of handling it.”

Once he was sure everyone had a chance to see, he carefully held the starseed close to Aquamarine’s body, returning it to him.

Aquamarine half expected Jet to drop him, thought he might wake up on the ground instead of securely in Jet’s arm. He passed out, had no concept of how much or how little time passed while he was unconscious, then woke up and blinked through the momentary disorientation to discover that he still remained in Jet’s careful hold.

“Glad I’m not dead,” he croaked, a bit weak and winded.

As soon as he trusted his own feet to hold his weight without assistance, Aquamarine escaped from Jet’s arm — or tried to. Jet didn’t seem willing to let him go so fast. To the recruits, Aquamarine would appear a bit tired and out of sorts, but unharmed otherwise. A single compulsive hand rose to his chest to rub at the spot where his starseed had been returned to him, but the move lasted seconds at most before he forced himself to drop his hand.

For the sake of their audience, he bent into a bow with a bit too much flourish to be anything but completely sarcastic, then straightened as well as he could to regain his formal posture and proper (if a bit hostile) demeanor.

Sure enough, Jet continued to hold Aquamarine with an arm around his waist, even as he tried to escape. He knew Aquamarine thought he would be fine just walking off, but there was no point in trying to play tough after having a starseed removed, even if only for a few moments.

He allowed Aquamarine enough room for him to bow to the audience, before he assisted Aquamarine to step back and make room for the next speaker.

The Branches

Headache took on greenlighting the next speakers, Prehnite and Sylvite, before its General returned. As Headache could not speak, the speakers came with no prior introduction.

Even Prehnite found himself applauding the display, as he had for everything that had come before. A good dissemination of knowledge passed down. How different all of this was from when he’d joined - better. A gentle nod cast at Sylvite, he hoped her vibrancy could make up where he droned on dully.

“I’m General Prehnite, and I’ll be speaking with General Sylvite on the four main Branches within the Negaverse. In the beginning, all agents are a part of General Operations, but as one gains experience and rank? They may choose to serve under a more specialized field, where they can put their honed skills to best use. I myself currently serve under the Infiltration Branch: otherwise known as [InfOs].” a whisper of a smile that followed, for he genuinely enjoyed his work, to some degree.

“Infiltration is headed by General King Lepidolite, and heralded by the brave souls that work both sides of the battlefront. As agents, as Civilians. We often marry our work into our service - until the two become indistinguishable from one another. The key points of Infiltration are thus: We serve our Sovereign King’s, Queens, and Metallia with pride. We ensure that our ranks remain filled with the best and brightest through key recruitment tactics.” and he might’ve well had cue cards before him, for how he went on with only brief pauses in between. Nearly statuesque as he talked over bullet pointed boxes punched out with an even cadence.

“We act in conjunction with Captains and Generals across all branches, primarily by assisting in the acquisition of resources needed by new recruits; this includes the finecraft grunt work of allocating identifying documents, jobs, cars, residences, and sometimes? Entirely new lives for those in need.” a touch of severity, for all that he was feeling it, especially with his newly acquired team, their endless needs. Caught their faces in the crowd of neatly seated others, offered them something genuine.

“This is all done to help our agents rejoin civilization in key positions. A thing that would be truly difficult without necessary support in place to not only aid in maintaining their stations, but to help them thrive under whatever new banners they seek to uphold.”

“It’s important to provide careful cover for our agents out in the field, and to keep the public’s eye on the positives. For we serve as politicians, journalists, school teachers, and more. Like an external shell that protects the core. In order to be an effective part of Infiltration, one must be well integrated into society in some function. Must have - if not social graces - than the ability to maintain connections with those who do.”

“Whether you are a secretary to a judge or a simple shop-keep? There is no station in society which cannot be made relevant and useful under Infiltration. Which cannot be used to quietly ply those around us, for the betterment of all. It takes subtlety, applied over time and with gentle pressure. I would say InfO’s is like the gentle drip of water upon a stone. It wears without notice - it wears a smile.” and his own smile was worn down, like stone, but there, and he could choose to wear it for the crowd. Pulled on some small trappings of ‘charm’, like tinsel on an old tree.

“To briefly touch upon [Gen-Ops]” a longer pause to ensure he hadn’t lost the pulse of the place entirely. “There are many ways in which being a Jack of all Trades has its highlights. Just because this branch is the largest, and falls under the moniker of ‘General’, does not mean it is without merit - nor that our agents should seek to specialize only to avoid a place under it.”

“General Operations is every agent's starting point, a commonality we emphatically share, and many great leaders have come up while remaining under it. For all Branches must provide their quotas, subdue our noted enemies, and co-operate within the clockwork, oil-slicked machine of the whole. I would dare to say that Gen-ops is much like a body - where the specialized branches feel more like a mind and soul. One cannot exist without the other - and only a fool would try to divorce them from themselves, when all parts are needed in equal measure for survival.”

“To hone that survival into success.”

Nodded at Sylvite and gave her due space as he waved her up to take his place at the stand.

It was fine, Sylvite told herself, even if she’d missed most of the starseed fondling because her heart was pounding in her ears so loud that it was almost making her dizzy. She was just here to talk about branches a little, and Prenhite was doing half of that. She wasn’t gonna be able to say anything that scared these recruits off.

“I’m Sylvite, an Intelligence General,” she told them, even as she bounced up and down on her toes, again and again, having to do something to get the nerves out of her system.

“I’m here to tell you about our branch. You can’t win a war if you don’t know what you’re up against, and that’s where we come in. Intelligence is here to know everything about everyone. We’re basically spies. It’s pretty fun.”

She managed at least a little bit of a smile.

“We keep track of who’s who in the White Moon, for one thing. Their leadership’s crappy, but we wanna know who’s trying to head things up. We wanna know who’s especially dangerous and needs to be dealt with as soon as possible, and who might just be a little bit confused or misguided and just need a nudge to see what’s right and join us. On top of like, categorizing stuff like threat level and recruitment potential, we also want to know exactly what each enemy’s abilities are, so that when you come up against someone in a fight, you don’t have to be caught off guard.

“Then, we spend a bunch of time making sure all this information is accessible for you guys. It’s all logged in the Intelligence Database. That’s like the handbook, It’s a must read, if you don’t wanna get your butt kicked for no reason, or so you don’t, like, accidentally be mean to someone who’s about to come be our ally. If anyone wants me to go over the database with them, I can, after the meeting.”

Sylvite took a breath.

“The last branch is called Special Operations. They’re basically the big guns. We’re all soldiers, but these guys are, like, the the ones who would be on the front lines in an action movies, smashing the bad guys with their cool swords. I mean, not just swords. Other weapons are good, senshi magic can be really good, but whatever these guys have, they know how to use it.

“That means that training is kinda their everyday task, the way that paperwork is for Intelligence and Infiltration, and draining and stuff in for GenOps. If staying active sounds more interesting for you than too much desk stuff, then this might be the branch for you.

“Then, they’re the ones who take all that training and all the resources provided by the other branches, and they put that into action. When there’s big Order threats who refuse to see the truth about things, or when there’s,” she trailed off, and curled her toes into tight little balls inside her shoes before she continued, “Traitors, Special Operations would be the branch that handles all that.”
Not quite sure how to finish a speech, Sylvite just kind of nodded and scurried away from the podium.

Weapons and Magic

Faustite returned partway through Prehnite's speech and loitered behind a curtain for all the bothersome light he gave off. He shook his head at the swarm of fireflies as they gathered near Ashanite; instead, he pointed to the General, then jerked a thumb at the stage.

Ashanite was almost certain he had been some kind of performer in his previous life—it only made sense, with the comfort he felt stepping up onto a stage in front of other people. Sylvite and Prehnite got a nod as they stepped away, and he gave a broad smile to the assembled crowd. So many. All of them lucky to be here, instead of trapped with the other side, fighting a losing struggle against the oncoming tsunami that was the Negaverse.

“I’m General Ashanite,” he introduced himself with a brief bow, “and I, like you, came over from the other side. I saw the White Moon’s lies, and hypocrisies, and failings, and I chose, instead, to serve those who had a goal in mind, and the organization to pursue it.” A wry smile crossed his face. “I’m always pleased to see more people who’ve been brought to us. tHe transition can be difficult, but it’s worthwhile in the end, and we’re glad to have you.”

It was true, even; every recruit to their side strengthened their army, and weakened the White Moon.

“Today, I’ll be teaching you just a little about weapons and magic. Every weapon is individual, just as ever magic spell is individual to the person it works for.” He called his weapon to hand, the great bladed staff that was half a foot again taller than he was, and its dripping, inky shadows.

“For those of you who have become officers, your weapon is your life. Keep it close, learn it, and train with it. As you advance up the ranks, it will grow with you; right now, it might be nothing more than a toy, something small and simple and not particularly deadly, but as you advance, that will change. They will grow from toys to something deadly and dangerous—and you would do well to learn to work with your weapon. Whatever it is now, it will generally stay along that theme, although the exact evolution can be difficult to predict—my Captain weapon was a pair of daggers, which grew to become this.” He tapped the end of his staff against the ground. “Still, if you have a ranged weapon—a toy gun, a slingshot—your weapon will likely stay ranged, and you would do well to seek out marksmanship training. A melee weapon will likely stay melee. If you aren’t sure, practice both.

“A Negaverse officer’s weapon might also come with a magical aspect as well.” To demonstrate, Ashanite brought his weapon up, flicked it at the ground, and let liquid shadow bloom into a block fog that made him vanish from view. He waited a moment, just for dramatic effect, before he stepped out next to it. “Most won’t be quite so flashy; my magic effect comes from…unique circumstances. But many weapons have some form or another of enchantment on them; heat, cold or any number of other magical effects. These can be used to give yourself an advantage; make sure that if your weapon does develop such a power, you learn to use it to its fullest extent. Correct understanding of when, how, and the exact limitations of your weapon’s capabilities—that fog, for instance, lasts right about ten seconds, so it should be fading…” he pushed, for effect, “now—” and it did, on cue, dissipating into mist and disappearing— “and it takes about two minutes to be able to do it again—can mean the difference between victory and defeat, and you can only lose so many fights before you lose to the b*****d who’s going to break your neck.”

He thought of Thraen’s concrete shoes. Forced himself not to shudder. No need to terrify the recruits. Too much.

“But speaking of magic—our Senshi recruits! Magic is your primary tool, and just like with officers, you’ll need to get acquainted with it. Metallia’s grace often brings out the true potential of a Senshi’s spells, making them stronger and more dangerous than they were on the other side. So even if you think you have memories of how your magic works, find a way to test it. Ensure that it’s still what you remember—because it may very well not be. Make sure you understand your limits, be they casting times, target numbers, duration—anything that might affect when and how it’s best to deploy your magic in a fight. If, for instance, it affects everyone around you, you’ll want to make sure you aren’t hitting your fellow officers—that’s just bad manners.” He said it like it was a joke, but there was an edge that implied he wasn’t entirely joking.

“Know your weapons. Know your magic. Know yourself, and all of your capabilities. Make sure that you are as prepared as possible, because while some people on the other side will approach with pretty lies, some will approach with fists raised, and you need to be able to defend yourself. Please, feel free to seek out assistance in learning your new abilities. And if you’re out of your depth, call for backup. We have each other's backs, here.”

He moved to step out of the way, giving Jet a nod of acknowledgement when he moved forward once more.

“I have experience with a lot of different Senshi magic, both from those in the White Moon and our own agents,” Jet said once Ashanite was finished, giving him a polite nod. “If any Senshi is unsure of what their magic does, or wants to test range or duration, I’m willing to assist as a target. It is important to know what everyone is capable of doing so we can best utilize everyone’s individual talents.”

Tablets and Tech

"Excellently said, Generals." At the conclusion of Jet's last words, after a few moments had passed, a tall, skinny woman made her way to the front of the room to stand in front of the podium; she had a bleached-blonde undercut, a purple-toned outfit, and a bright, sunny smile — and her left arm, distinct enough, was far, far paler than her right, covered with black tattoos that seemed to flicker and shift out of the corner of one's eye.

"Fantastic to see this many faces here today." She really did mean it — or she sounded like she meant it, anyway. The Negaverse was the better business deal. "I'm Captain Kosmochlor! And today we're going to be talking about Negaverse technology. Obviously I won't be able to cover every tool the Negaverse has at its disposal - so we're primarily going to be talking about this."
From seemingly out of nowhere, she pulled a silver and purple pen. "This - " Kosmochlor flourished - "is a Negaverse Tablet, which is mainly what we've got time to go over today! Anyway, these should be considered a fundamental part of your lives as Negaverse officers; if you don't yet have one, I strongly suggest picking one up from a Mauvian after this orientation winds down."

"If you're not aware what a Mauvian is in the first place, here's the summary: Mauvians are, essentially, talking cats. If they're Negaverse, they'll have dark stars on their foreheads. Many of them can transform into a humanoid form for a few hours a day, but no matter if they can or not, Mauvians are overall brilliant with technology. Don't let their little kitty forms fool you — a good 90% of them can build things you'd never be able to dream of. If you ever have questions about Negaverse-related technology, Mauvians are always a good place to start!" (She was gushing, perhaps, but she did so admire Mauvian ingenuity - now that she was back in Destiny City and back in Negaspace, Kosmochlor had so many projects she wanted to start.)

"Back to the main point of this, though!" She flipped the closed tablet up into the air once more, catching it during its descent. "First off, all tablets have a button on the side - if you press that button, it starts recording audio; as soon as you press the button again, the recording will be sent out to all Negaverse Tablets in the area with an attached GPS location. I'll be frank - this is for distress calls. There's no shame in calling for assistance if you're outnumbered or overpowered! It might be embarrassing, but an embarrassed agent is a lot better than a dead agent."

"To access most of the other functions of the tablet, you'll want to take it and pull it apart." Kosmochlor demonstrated just that, slowly, carefully, making sure the revealed holoscreen was completely in view of the assembled crowd. "To activate the screen, the tablet does run a facial scan; you're all already registered in the database, as are all Negaverse Officers and Negaverse Senshi, so no worries there. But with it like this, you can access the Negaverse Database! General Sylvite talked about this earlier — and as an Intelligence General, she knows what she's talking about. This is a constantly-updating record of just about any piece of information you might need — it includes good draining locations, information on our enemies, promising civilian candidates, and more. If you're interested in contributing any knowledge to the Database, you'll need to visit the Computer Lab; accessing the computers there requires a login, but you can get one from a Mauvian, or a General or Eternal Senshi of the Information Branch."

"With the tablet screen, you also have access to some more familiar apps: there's a fully-functional messaging system, as well as a camera with video and a notes app. All of these also work via screenreader and can be voice-controlled, if your hands are ever busy or you have motor impairments." She stopped, pretending to be lost in thought. "Like only having one arm. But I digress! Your tablet is automatically recharged by visiting here, so it shouldn't die on you too much. And if any of you are aspiring coders, the OS the Negaverse uses runs just about every language under the sun, so you're more than welcome to try your hand; I'd love to hear what you come up with."

"You might hear some older officers who've been around for a decade talking about Communication Crystals - don't worry about those, they're outdated, and the tablets do everything they did but better. As new recruits, anything more specialized than a Tablet shouldn't be your immediate concern; it's best you get acquainted with the basics first." And at that, Kosmochlor flicked her hand, sending her tablet back to subspace. "I don't exactly want to monopolize your time, though, so that's it for the time being! Give your regards again to Captain Carnotite; she'll be discussing how setting up your new identities works, and I strongly suggest you pay close attention."

"If any of you have additional questions, or are interested in topics I didn't cover, you're more than welcome to chat after the orientation's over!" She stepped away from the podium, cheerful as ever, and nodded to Carnotite with respect.

New Identities

Carnotite approached the podium again, metal hands clapping lightly once she reached it. "Hello, again. Yes, I'm back, and I'll be finishing up things here with two more important topics." Her third eye was closed, and the electricity around her head seemed duller than before, as if a dimmer switch had been lowered. The focus of her topics now were unrelated to her status as a half-youma, and so she determined it was better to lessen those potential distractions.

Her expression softened this time, looking over the audience slowly. She gave a long breath through her nose, and nodded her head. "This time, I will be speaking about a topic I realize might be sensitive to many of you, but it is all the more important that we discuss it: New Identities. Joining the Negaverse, for those broken from the misguidance of the White Moon, often means the tragic reality of losing that previous life. Many of you likely have few, if any, memories of that time, and of whatever your life had been before now. I cannot imagine how that must feel, but please know: you are not alone."

She spoke gentler this time. Slower. This was a far more personal topic, and care was given to acknowledge this. "You are not the first to join us this way, as General Ashanite has already shared. There are many other agents and senshi you are more than welcomed to speak to. I'm sure most will be more than willing to share their own experiences, and how they rejoined the world beyond Negaspace. But please keep this in mind, this new life? This life is yours to decide. Whoever you were when the White Moon was poisoning your mind and direction, you can become whoever, whatever you wish to pursue--well. Within some limitations," she added with a shrug, allowing a pause for any laughter or murmurs.

"You will need to meet with agents and Mauvians in the Information branch to help set up your new identification papers for your civilian life. This means coming up with a new civilian name, birthday… and I realize this might seem very overwhelming for some of you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your superior officer, or to any of the presentators today if you wish to meet privately to discuss any of this. We realize this is a potentially very confusing time for some of you, and wish to help ease this transition into your new life as much as possible."

Another pause, more murmurs and a chance to digest. "You are also recommended to speak to your superior officer about job opportunities, should you have any knowledge that might help facilitate this. If not? Please, don't worry! The Negaverse has a wide variety of options and programs available to help you establish yourself in this new life. For those of you who are interested in attending school, we have Romano's Constitutional Haven for those of high school age, or approximately so. This is an establishment run entirely by the Negaverse, and whose staff is entirely composed of our agents! General Prehnite with us today is one of the teachers there overseeing Earth Science courses, for example." Carnotite placed one of her metallic hands against her chest and smiled. "I am one of the instructors there, too, I teach courses on Public Speaking, if you couldn't tell," she added with a playful wink. "I also work for the school on their Marketing and Social Media fronts. If any of you have any such experience, please feel free to speak to me later about possible job opportunities. Any inquiries about who else is on staff are absolutely welcomed, as well. I'm more than happy to help facilitate meetings, send you contact information, whatever it is you need or feel comfortable with.

We also have avenues to get you easily signed up for college courses for those of you up on that level. Anywhere from Associate degrees, to Ph.D. programs, to just dipping into random classes to see what you like! There are also options to set up testing to see what level you're at, if you're unsure. It's okay. I promise, no matter what it is you remember, or don't remember, of your previous life, it's okay. The Negaverse will help you figure out where your baseline is now, and what the next best steps are for you to start your path forward.

If you don't want to go to school, that's absolutely fine as well. We have people here able to help you with job placement testing, and you can jump right on into the field if that's what you'd prefer."

A few more beats, and Carnotite let out another breath. "Okay, next big topic for new identities--I know, this is a lot, so thank you for all your patience in this. The last big thing here, is housing. Obviously, we will not be kicking you out onto the streets. We have a variety of housing options, ranging from the barracks here, to student housing for those who want to go that route, to apartments and other housing where rent and expenses are covered until you're up on your feet financially. It all boils down to what you feel comfortable with. Numerous agents and senshi offer shared housing to help people new to the Negaverse adjust, and we can easily get you in touch with such individuals if you wish. Individual housing is also possible, but will require you to keep checking in regularly with your reporting officer, please keep this in mind."

She placed her hands gently on the podium, offering a gentle smile as she looked around the audience. "This has been a lot. I realize this. If you have any questions, about anything we've gone over here today, please do not hesitate to reach out to the presentators, to General Faustite, the Information branch, or to your superior officer."

Resources

Faustite stood once Carnotite stepped back, and himself ascended the podium. "So concludes the topics covered by the Handbook. But," invariably, he started to pace on the raised platform, "everyone here has unique circumstances compared to a typical recruit. Most of you have forgotten some, if not all of your lives. All of you need new identities. All of you need resources to reestablish yourselves as hu –... People."

Behind him, Headache reformed into Faustite's Captain appearance and offered Carnotite an unopened water bottle from the prep table.

"We've assembled a collection of volunteers that will assist with all that I mentioned and more. Captain Carnotite will elaborate." He turned, gestured to her, and left the stage.

This time, Carnotite gave a longer break, allowing people to mentally chew on all the information she'd just given them. She herself surveyed the room, taking note of individual reactions and outward responses. Anyone looking nervous or concerned was given particular attention, though she did not do more than smile and nod to them if they made eye contact.

Finally, she cleared her throat, aware there was a schedule for all of this. "Through all this, you are here with us as people liberated from the White Moon, newly joining our ranks where you will have ample opportunities to develop yourself as a soldier of the Negaverse, and to develop yourself personally within this space, and beyond. The Negaverse has a vast pool of resources that are open to you to utilize. What I will be mentioning here today is only a drop of what we have to offer, but I believe will be a suitable starting point to help you begin your new life here."

She'd been given key points to bring up, specific individuals who could assist the new crop of agents and senshi. Her mind whirled as she recalled the details on the papers she'd drafted.

"General Faustite has a great deal of experience helping people draft new identities, and Fafnir has also been kind enough to offer his expertise in implementing this new portion of your life. Both are available to speak with today after the presentation, or you are welcome to reach out to them to set up private meetings if you are more comfortable with that!

General Jet is of course willing to assist Negaverse Senshi in better understanding their magic, please speak to him to set up appointments.

If you wish to speak to someone about anything, be it just to vent and get it off your chest, or if you are seeking advice or assistance on a concern in particular, please know Psilomelane's office is always open."

She waited a few beats, giving people a chance to catch up with what she'd been saying, file away whatever information was useful to them. Given the length of the presentations, she knew to hurry things up. Peoples' attentions were likely waning fast, if they haven't already mentally checked out. "For your medical needs, we highly encourage you to use the Destiny City Medical Center, as it is run by the Negaverse and able to provide free check-ups, medical aid, and other treatments should you decide to utilize them. They also offer mental health services, and dentistry. You'll have no need to come up with cover stories for any injuries sustained in battles. All services rendered will be billed to the Negaverse, meaning you can go without any concern of any financial burden, so please don't let that keep you from being treated for whatever might ail or concern you! Captain Bloodstone is available as an on-call doctor at the Destiny City Medical Center, should you desire to seek an agent directly who works there."

Those were the last big points she needed to make--job benefits should be a priority for everyone, after all. A list in her mind was checked off for each subject she'd touched on, and individual she was told to bring up in what context. Finally, she tossed in her own, smiling wide to the audience. "I hope no one holds these personal plugs against me, but I state this for those interested in potentially working in fields like fashion design, music and recording, and technical positions dealing with software and systems in those industries. My family owns the fashion label F I O R E, and the record label Vex Visionary. I'm more than happy to help get people into either, or if you're more of an influencer type, feel free to come have a chat with me. You'll need a restart if you had a previous business, but I've got a network that can help make that quick and easy so you can get back up and running in no time." A metal hand brushed aside blonde waves that crackled with electricity. Even dimmed down, Carnotite still had her spotlights to make use of. Just the way she was.

"But!" She clapped her hands, grinning to the audience. "We are now at the end of our presentation! I will hand things back to General Faustite. Thank you all for your attention and patience today!"

Conclusion and Q&A

Faustite stepped up onto the podium once Carnotite left. "All of the information covered is in the Negaverse Handbook file on your communicators. Captain Kosmochlor will send out a file with the resources that Captain Carnotite mentioned; if you need physical copies, information cards are available at all of the exits." Faustite pointed to each of the ways out.

"If you lack a tablet, stick around and an officer will obtain one for you.

"Presenting officers will now descend from the stage. Some may leave for other obligations; remaining officers will be available for questions. You may stay if you have questions. If not, you're dismissed." Faustite brought his hands together, then excused himself from the stage. He waited for the other presenters to exit first, then was last to descend.

Corrupt Super Fafnir

When his name had been spoke from the podium, and tall, dark haired young man had stepped forward, inclining his chin at the crowd, tablet in hand. He might have felt self-concious, done up like some fantasy mage with spiraling horns sweeping back from his head.... but next to Faustite, or Carnotite, he felt rather at home with his fantastic uniform.

The information was all stuff he'd heard before, but that wasn't really the point of why he was here. Some of it he inwardly scoffed at... the propaganda machine was running full tilt today, but with a dozen impressionable new minds to feed, it was no wonder. And Albite to kick it off? These new people were going to need a capable hand to get off on the right foot, a hand he was hopefully going to be able to provide.

It was more work on top of his already full schedule, but it was also another opportunity to show off his skills. Impress the generals and general sovereigns, and he'd be able to bank on them as resources down the road.

"If you have concerns about your new identity, need one worked out for you, or would like to look at opportunities you may have the skills to fill, please feel free to speak with me." He called to the dispersing crowd.

Corrupt Senshi Actaea

Actaea listened to everything that was said it was so much to take in, but at least there was help here since she was confused and she had to rebuild her life and this was just the place she would be able to do that. She couldn't remember who she used to be so it was important for her to get a new idenity. She was grateful that this had been organized and she would be taught everything she needed to know about the negaverse and what she needed to know about the white moon and everything else.

Captain Kosmochlor

After she'd finished her bit and retreated back to the sideline, Kosmochlor had been stealing curious looks at both the other presenters and the audience, trying to figure out what notes she could puzzle her way into understanding - age, senshi sphere, former knighthood allegiance, any of that - god, but she would've found this whole thing helpful when she'd tossed Babel to the wayside. It was just a good chunk of information to have. (And maybe she was looking for other ex-Saturn Knights, sue her. Ashanite she'd never personally spoken to, but with his colors and his collar's tag, she had her suspicions. She remembered being told she was custodian of a dead land and a tower of ghosts, scorned by a woman who'd died a millenia ago - not that any of these officers would remember, memories probably shredded, but she could imagine that kinship anyways.)

...Although some of these fresh recruits, she didn't think, would be retaining the information. She knew zoning out when she saw it. Ah, well, not a lot Kosmochlor could do about that - she wasn't a miracle worker, and ideally if they realized their own deficiencies they would seek help. Or at least they'd check with her on the way out! She'd been out of town long enough, it was time to do some networking.

Alright. One by one and counted down, who and what did she know?
First off: General Faustite, presiding, with the face of someone about a decade her junior but the bearing of someone with considerably less of an agegap; midsection replaced with whorling fire and metal grating, sclera dyed with ash and smoke. Oh, but she had questions for him - questions it probably wasn't quite so appropriate to ask in a public setting, given how medically invasive they had the possibility to be - but here was clear evidence of human interference, no other half-youma or youma she knew with traits so mechanical, and undoubtedly he'd know things she could use for her own betterment.
Trailing after, Sailor Albite. With the way they interacted - camaraderie with Faustite that wasn't exactly one-sided, even if there was bluster and professional distance. Definitely not someone so used to professional contexts or to professional presentations, overtly casual, strangely genuine: someone she wanted to study from a distance, for when and if he inevitably broke. It'd be great data! Either his psyche had already shattered under the darkness of the Negaverse, or it would, and frankly she was excited to know what the answer was either way.

Generals Aquamarine and Jet, almost part of a double act, covering each other's weak points. Were they dating? They might've been, but Kosmochlor wasn't about to ask. If they weren't dating, then it'd be an insult, and geez she didn't need to burn bridges like that. Captain Carnotite, captivating, unhurriedly covering multiple topics, every item presented with confidence and security. Generals Prehnite and Sylvite, tagging off with each other, neither one entirely certain or steady on their feet when it came to public speaking. General Ashanite, so self-assured that he'd certainly done something of this ilk many times before.

And all these new recruits, minds fresh as anything! Oh, there was so much that could be done here, and so much that she'd list if she had the chance. But she wasn't organizing this whole thing, she was still new back in town, and she was still very technically General Operations - so no sense ruining her welcome.

General Faustite

Burning thing breathed a sigh of relief when he was off the podium and didn't have to answer to a room full of bright-eyed, empty heads. If they kept some of their memories, they might've recognized a youmafied officer when they saw one; as it was, Faustite expected that most of them had never recalled seeing a youma before in their lives. Now they were right next to a hotbed of youma activity, and had only just heard about the creatures. Had seen Headache as their first.

Speaking of the annoying thing, the swarm of fireflies gathered around him once he reached the auditorium floor, and the damned things came to mass rest on his split cape. He thought about commanding them to get off, but then they'd have a flying epilepsy warning buzzing around the room. He kept his mouth shut.

Most of the newly indoctrinated looked stunned with information overload. He figured it normal; they needed a few minutes to let all that information percolate. Reasonably, he went for one of the nearby attendees who volunteered himself as a resource. While he wasn't a speaker, Fafnir's services had been utterly indispensable regarding Lysithea.

So Faustite approached him, stood beside him. Headache, perpetually mischievous. made his cape look like it disappeared.

"Thanks for showing." He spoke as he looked out at the crowd. "Doubtless that this many identities will take some clever resource reallocation to come into being without notice. Has anyone commended you on your diligence?" It was then that he looked at the taller boy, at the eyeshadow that Metallia so graciously provided him. He hadn't known how long Fafnir was a Super Senshi, but he would see this boy rewarded for this, and his talents applied to something bigger than Infiltration's grunt work.
