Quote:
Prompt 11 (Marshmallow Snow): Fresh-fallen snow coats Destiny City. It’s pristine and crisp, and it crunches as you walk through it. It may be a few inches deep, but it doesn’t seem to go above your calves when walking. At first, it’s easy enough to walk through, but gradually you realize that it’s getting harder to move. Every step you take feels like the snow is pulling you back in, and if you get a good look you might realize that sticky white fluff is clinging to you. The more you walk, the more it pulls, until you’re almost completely stuck. Something about the snow smells oddly sweet, and the tacky, marshmallow-like snow seems like it’s suddenly become a prison. The more you try to break free, the stickier it gets, and you’d better hope you don’t fall down. The more you struggle the harder it is to escape, but if you manage to stay still for a few minutes, the marshmallow will freeze and crystallize. When you move again, the snow will turn into a powdery dust and you can break free easily. The only good thing about this is that you won’t starve if you get trapped–the snow tastes just like marshmallows.

Of all the places for Cleeia to find himself, stuck in strange, sticky snow was not it. How utterly inconvenient; right when he started to decide to get more intensely serious about Negaverse things, he was having probably the single most obnoxious experience of his life. He'd meant to just go for a walk, but he'd gotten deeply, upsettingly unlucky, and now he was fully, completely trapped. This strange, sticky snow was up to his knees, and he was flailing to stay balanced, praying that he didn't get unlucky enough to trip and fall into it.

This was, he was pretty sure, the worst time for him to encounter literally anyone else--his own faction would be humiliating, the opposing faction would be even worse. And the absolute worst part of all of it was that if someone did want to pick a fight with him, he was in an incredibly vulnerable position.

Ugh, absolute bullshit. Cleeia gave one last tug of his leg--and nearly wholly unbalanced himself when it refused to come free, flailing back into a standing position.

A basic senshi was the second to easiest target. Michel preferred the Lieutenants, who had no ability to do any real damage and had no magic, but he wasn’t really picky anymore. He didn’t care whose blood was on his hands as long as someone was feeling it.

He would have pursued the energy signature even if it had been moving, but his tactics would have been much different.

When he realized the Senshi seemed stuck, he didn’t really care about any maybes; he saw a sitting duck. So, he struck it.

To get to Cleeia was a matter of just crossing the distance between where he was and where he wanted to be; he adjusted his position and gripped his clock hand tightly and then he ran. It took him seconds to weave from being ‘uncomfortably close’ to being ‘terrifyingly on top of’ Cleeia, and–well, the poor thing was stuck.

So Michel was just going to help him out.

He struck the Senshi with the flat side of his weapon, hard, in the back.

Really, he didn’t care if it pushed him out of the snow, or if it knocked him down into it.

He didn’t care about a lot of things, anymore.

The Negaverse wasn’t getting the message, so he was going to have to try harder.

The attack was a shock to Cleeia's system. He thought he was prepared for whatever was coming, but he couldn't be ready for the powerful strike that slammed into his back, sending him forward and knocking him wholly off balance. He yelped, desperate and panicky, and half-turned as he feel, speedily drawing the sigil for his magic in the air, gasping out "Dark Inspiration!" and flinging it at his attacker. At least the sticky snow had enough give to let him twist and land, even if he did end up awkwardly bent, on his a**, and stuck much deeper.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" He demanded, angrily. "Attacking someone out of nowhere?"

Not that he could be sure that he would get any kind of answer, since he was never sure exactly what his magic would do to someone.

Quote:
Cleeia speaks the name of his attack, drawing the form of a strange glyph in the air, which appears glowing yellow as he draws it. He then gestures towards a target, and the glyph flies over, passing through them and dispersing into a yellow mist. The target finds themself seized by mad inspiration--they feel as if they suddenly understand how to get past any roadblocks they've been experiencing how to sort their s**t out in general, et cetera. This fervent inspiration lasts for 20 seconds, and then ends dramatically, leaving the target suddenly devoid of the inspiration they had. It can leave behind a lingering sensation that if only they could remember, they would be able to fix all their problems, or other haunting effects at player discretion. Cleeia can use this magic three times per battle.

What was wrong with him? What was wrong with him? Oh, the audacity of this senshi. The absolute mediocrity, the failure to comprehend something so simple. He wasn’t attacking someone out of nowhere; this wasn’t sudden or unexpected, not from him.

He leaned in over him, shoving Cleeia deeper into the snow. He spoke in a low voice, laced with anger and awareness and said, “If you didn’t know I was coming, that’s on you. I’ve been leaving the Negaverse very clear messages. I guess you weren’t important enough to get the memo.”

He knew what he had to do, it was so simple. Just kill him. Just carve him out, leave the message in his blood. If they weren’t aware of him, of what he was looking for, of what he wanted, wouldn’t it have been so much simpler to just spell it out for them?

His mind was going a mile a minute, he had an expanse of plans that suddenly constructed themselves in his mind. He couldn’t put it into words but he knew how to get the Negaverse to take him seriously, how to send his message, how to get Lysithea back.

“Poor, pathetic, little Senshi. Do they even want you? Do they even care about you? You must not be as important as the one I’m looking for, they’re keeping her safe and sound. Maybe I’ll take pity on you. I suppose I can’t blame you if you weren’t worth their time. If you can find a way to be worth mine, maybe I’ll rethink seeing how long it takes you to bleed out. I want to know what you know about a girl named Lysithea, Senshi of Unicorns. Her, or some Agent with a penchant for going up in flames.”

No. No, apparently, if there was a memo to get, it hadn't reached Cleeia.

He was no stranger to fear, certainly. He felt it all the time, in all sorts of situations, especially ones he made up in his head because coming up with worst-case scenarios was practically a hobby. The thing was, Cleeia was not in fact used to being afraid of things that were concretely bad.

In the Rift, when he'd briefly seemed to transform into a monster, he was pretty sure Mirzam had been more afraid than he was, because it had been happening to him and he'd barely had a chance to process it before she was hauling him off. But now, this? This Knight was going to kill him. There was no other way around it.

He was trapped, and he was going to die, and his magic had just made things worse, and fear crawled down his spine.

"M-my sister brought me in," he said, defensively, and he wanted to try to scramble away, but there was no away to go. "But I--I don't..." Cleeia swallowed.

"I'm sorry," he said, "I don't know anything about a Lysithea. Can--can I look for her? For you? See if anyone will tell me anything? And I'll bring you the information? Just--if you leave me alive, I promise, I can be very useful!"

One second, Michel had all the answers. The next, he had nothing. His grand master plan had fallen asleep in a matter of seconds. Every thought scurried just out of grasp and he felt a strange, overwhelming emptiness. Frustration clawed at him, and for a few seconds he looked like he might just take his frustration out on Cleeia.

Using him for information wasn’t part of the perfect, master plan he’d just had but–

It was something. He needed something.

Michel sneered and moved in a little closer.

“Your sister’s going to be the death of you. If I don’t kill you now, someone else is going to, down the road. The Negaverse is bad news. They don’t give a s**t about you. I don’t give a s**t about you, either, but. You may yet be useful.”

He looked down at him reproachfully but doubted such a menacing look would be observed with the snow still holding Cleeia hostage. “I’ll give you one chance to get me information on her, and only because I’m feeling sorry for you right now. I want to know where she is, how she’s doing. But, more than that, I want her back. If you can make that happen, you won't have any more trouble from me. But if you can’t, I’m going to take a piece of you every time you come back without her. And then, when you run out of pieces, I’ll track down your sister and go after her, too. Got it?”

A snarky reply bubbled to Cleeia's lips, but he bit back the urge to run his mouth. He was at a disadvantage, left bettered and tangled in the snow, and if he pushed any harder, he might push this Knight back to trying to kill him right here and now.

That sounded like a very unpleasant prospect. Whatever kept him alive for another day, on the other hand, was very much what Cleeia wanted.

"I don't need anyone to give a s**t," he said, though, unable to stay completely silent. It was something of a curse, the way his mouth ran without his input on occasion. "But I'll bring you as much information as I can. I can't make any guarantees on getting her to come with me, but I'll try to manage that, too."

He was in so much trouble. So very, very, very much trouble. If he was at all smart, he would tell Mirzam about all of this and they would set a trap for this Knight.

And yet, he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to do that.

"By which I mean to say, got it."

Obviously, it wasn’t wise to trust the Negaverse, but what more could Michel do? It’s not like he could claw his way into their hold in the ground and dig out Lysithea himself.

…Especially because she was probably here, somewhere in the city. Hidden.

He looked at every dark haired girl he didn’t recognize because it might have been her–but then, any of them could have been. She could have dyed her hair. She could have changed her appearance. He knew there was some magic that changed someone but he liked to think that he’d have been able to feel her if he ran into her.

So far, he hadn’t had any luck, and he wasn’t going to have any if he just stood around and waited for this senshi to thaw.

“Good. As long as you’re useful, you’ll stay off my s**t list. I expect something the next time I see you.”

Whenever that was.

He turned on his heel and started off back in the direction he’d come from.

He didn’t ask for the Senshi’s name, he didn’t care.

He didn’t need it to find him again.
