Prompt 10 (Runaway Reindeer): Someone thought it would be a good idea to get real reindeers to pet while visiting Santa, and someone should have considered that might be a bad idea. No one knows how they snuck out, but one by one they disappeared–and now they’re wreaking havoc on Destiny City. Or, so the reports say. The reindeer have been spotted eating everything, running in front of cars, chasing people down. It’s strange, almost as if they are possessed. They’re aggressive and hostile and not having any of this holiday nonsense. Are all reindeer like this? …Or have you run into a very aggressive youma masquerading as one?

Note: If you use this for a powered battle prompt, it does not count for the ‘one youma battle per growth’ ; this is a special prompt where the creature will attack anyone. It can only be used as a battle if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered to count this for a battle. The reindeer will not respond to any commands and cannot be destroyed; it will always run away before it can be defeated.

Arsenolite took a deep breath of the crisp air as he walked with Cleeia. Apparently, Mirzam had been bothering Cleeia to go do more for the Negaverse—which was great, that Cleeia was getting out, but... Ehh, Arsenolite had volunteered for this, so he shouldn't complain, but man, was the guy just silent! It drove Arsenolite nuts. He wanted a conversation, some light heartedness, some fun while they terrorized the public for fun and also to serve their queen. But... even when the dude did talk, he sounded like Arsenolite's ******** twitter feed. All doom and gloom and full of bullshit that shouldn't be in anyone's faces 24/7. God, he really needed to just start with a clean slate on twitter, speaking of... just follow his fellow soap opera fans and block everything political or otherwise. He didn't need that extra stress.

And despite it all, the urge to strike up a good conversation rose up again (and also reminded him of why any time he'd struggled to clean up his twitter he stopped being able to do so—the urge to do the opposite was too strong).

"What do you do for fun outside of work for the Negaverse?" he asked, giving Cleeia a curious look.

Spending time with people in the Negaverse was tiring. Sure, Cleeia found more joy and power in the Negaverse now than he ever had before, but it was still sort of tedious, and he had very little reason to feel positive about the endeavor.

Honestly, if Mirzam didn't want him trailing after her, she could at least have had the decency to say so directly, instead of pawning him off on someone else.

He blinked over at Arsenolite. The questions were tiring, but at least he could bother with an answer.

"I draw. I work for my sister's bookstore. Ah...gaming, I like gaming."

Draw? "Do you take commissions?" he asked with more than simple curiosity. He liked the thought of directly supporting a fellow Negaverse agent instead of relying on internet randoms for his soap opera ship art.

"I don't do a whole lot of gaming or reading," he commented, "But I do like gaming. Mostly multiplayer stuff, though. Mario Kart or whatever."

He heard something and looked up and out into the night, eyes narrowed and a hand on his bow in a flash. That... didn't sound normal.

It was sort of a surprise, to get that question from another officer, but Cleeia perked up significantly when he asked. "I do, I'll give you my twitter when we're done, my rates are in my pinned tweet."

And given the opportunity to talk about something that interested him, Cleeia was monumentally chatty.

"I'm mostly an RPG gamer, so I've been playing a lot of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous recently, uh. It's a really cool RPG based on a tabletop module, and it's really long and involved, which I love. Oh! And Mass Effect LEgendary Edition, obviously--"

But he paused, mid-ramble, to look where Arsenolite was facing, and as he did, he groaned. Because walking towards them was, of all things, a reindeer. Probably. And it seemed pissed. Like it was gearing up to charge.

Like the brave, noble warrior of the Negaverse he was, he ducked behind Arsenolite for protection.

"Well? Mister Brave Captain with your bow? Are you going to take care of that thing before it squishes us?"

Right. Captain. He was in charge now, and that came with responsibilities.

The kind of responsibilities he'd avoided his whole life.

Taking a deep breath, he lifted his bow from his back and nocked an arrow, aiming carefully. He could do this. Cleeia was under his protection, and allowing anything to happen to him under Arsenolite's watch was not allowed.

Okay, he wasn't a poet.

"Hey, Rudolph! Scram!" he shouted, loosing an arrow into the thing's shoulder.

It screamed in anger and lowered its head, charging at them antlers first. Arsenolite cursed the fact that he couldn't teleport him andCleeia out of there without passing out and reached behind him, grabbing Cleeia and hauling them both out of the way.

"Olé!" he said slightly hysterically as it passed by them.

At least Arsenolite had the good sense to one: shoot it when it was far away, and two: drag himself and Cleeia out of the way of the thing's charge before they got squished. Commendable. Points awarded for basic decency and the intelligence to work out a quick solution on the fly. That made him better than most people Cleeia dealt with on a day to day basis, and he could respect that.

So at least they weren't totally and completely ********. They could make something work, here.

And that was when Cleeia had an idea. A terrible, idiotic idea.

His magic made people smarter than they normally were. Or, at least, more inspired than they normally were. Arsenolite was clearly already pretty smart; maybe he just needed a little boost to get further?

So, keeping Arsenolite between him and the monster, Cleeia drew a sigil in the air, and whispered "Dark Inspiration."He waved the sigil towards Arsenolite, and it exploded in a burst of yellow mist.

It was a terrible, stupid idea. He didn't care. It was probably going to get them out of this, and so if Arsenolite had a problem being magicked by one of his allies, he could b***h about it later.

Quote:
Cleeia speaks the name of his attack, drawing the form of a strange glyph in the air, which appears glowing yellow as he draws it. He then gestures towards a target, and the glyph flies over, passing through them and dispersing into a yellow mist. The target finds themself seized by mad inspiration--they feel as if they suddenly understand how to get past any roadblocks they've been experiencing how to sort their s**t out in general, et cetera. This fervent inspiration lasts for 20 seconds, and then ends dramatically, leaving the target suddenly devoid of the inspiration they had. It can leave behind a lingering sensation that if only they could remember, they would be able to fix all their problems, or other haunting effects at player discretion. Cleeia can use this magic three times per battle.

Arsenolite was scared. He wasn't sure what to do, with his weapon not scaring the damn thing off and it was starting to charge again—

Then he was touched by magic, and it was like a fog in his brain had lifted. Grabbing Cleeia again in a bridal carry, he almost paused to roll his eyes at himself not thinking of it sooner, and jumped them up a building to the roof, and then to the next highest roof.

"Let's hope Rudolph here can't fly," he muttered under his breath, watching the reindeer crash into the building they'd jumped onto first. Then it looked up at them, blinked, snorted, and galloped off into the night.

Arsenolite relaxed. "Brilliant. Wow, I feel like I could do anything right now. Hey, I know exactly what to do to help Monoceros now! This magic is—is..." he trailed off, eyes glazing over as all the thoughts scattered, the fog descending over his mind once again. He felt hollowed out. Sluggish. Stupid.

"What did you do to me?" he snarled, whirling on Cleeia in a frenzy, "What was that awful magic?"

Sometihng in Cleeia's chest went tha-thump when Arsenolite swept him into his arms, and Cleeia cursed himself for being such a stupid, useless homosexual. Getting picked up by a boy whose only charm was the size of his muscles should not be a reason for his heart to Do Things, and yet here they were.

He grumped unhappily, but it was mostly to himself. No reason to stroke Arsenolite's ego by letting him know Cleeia was impressed, at least not until they were actually out of danger. Once they landed on the second roof, Cleeia wiggled out of Arsenolite's grip to watch the reindeer snort and snarl and thne run away, and let out a breath.

"Well done. See, you just needed a little inspiration to get you going," he said.

And then Arsenolite whirled on him, and he tensed, back going ramrod straight, arms crossing, and eyes narrowing.

"My magic inspires. I'm the Senshi of Inspiration. That's what I do. It's not my fault it can't last forever, and that you're not smart enough to hold onto what you got."

This was a terrible idea. He knew it was a terrible idea. And yet, he held up his hand anyway, as if he might use his magic again to defend himself.

"Put a hand on me and I will absolutely tell my sister, and she will make sure you regret every idiot choice you've made."

Arsenolite's hands curled into fists. He hadn't considered doing harm on Cleeia, but now he was contemplating if it was worth pissing off Cleeia's sister.

....Probably not.

"Keep your opinions to yourself," he snapped, "Look, you're safe now, yeah? Don't come to me for help filling your quota again."

He took a deep breath, trying to force himself to calm down, but the anger still boiled away inside. Damnit. He let out a low growl, mostly at himself. He couldn't allow his temper to take hold and ruin what he'd built in the Negaverse.

"I'm not gonna do anything to you," he said irritably. "I think you're a d**k, but I'm also not gonna let you die or anything. That's not who I am. Even if I am stupid."

His lips pursed, and his hands shook from the effort of keeping himself together. Come on, Arsenolite. You can handle this a little longer. Don't be a shitty Captain.

"Do you want a ride back into the Negaverse?" he asked, forcing his voice to remain even and getting a little pleased with himself when it did.

Cleeia crossed his arms, and inhaled tensely. He wanted to puff himself up, but there was only so much up to puff, since he was on the smaller side all around.

Still, his threat seemed to have worked, and Arsenolite was not currently hitting him! Victory. Wonderful.

"Fine. Yes. I'll take a ride back to Negaspace." His tone was sharp, as he extended a hand.

He took a deep breath.

".....Thank you," he said, though it did not sound particularly thankful.

He hoped, after this, he never saw Arsenolite again.
