Picking Out The Perfect Gift
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
It's that time of the year again! Time to give presents to loved ones in the typical ceremonies of the people of Tendaji. But the question is - what is the perfect gift?
[ We're looking for two things in this world event. 1) Who is your character getting a gift for and why? 2) What exactly would be the perfect gift? You can spend the whole prompt reflecting on these decisions, asking a friend for advice on the gift to give, or going out and purchasing the gift. ]

Siofra stayed close to her brother as they were at the marketplace. After looking around at all the people she frowned before turning to him and bringing her hands up to be in front of her. That was an indication that she was getting ready to sign to him.
'Where are we going to look for a gift?' She signed for him. Sio was confident that her brother would be able to understand her even if she went a little fast. He was usually the one that interpreted for her anyways.

Arkadios was keeping a super vigilant eye! He didn't trust strangers on the best of days (aka when he was with older family members), but now that he was alone with his precious sister? Ha! Everyone around him might as well have been a nightmare creature looking to scoop them up! When an older woman smiled their way as she walked by he snorted, like an angry little rabbit, and puffed his chest up a little. She kept walking (albeit after a strange look his way), and when he was sure they were fine he looked back to Sio. "Depends on what you want to get, I guess. Who are we getting it for, again? I can't remember."

Sio missed, or rather ignored, her brother puffing up his chest at people. It was too common a thing for him to do for her to find it weird or even alarming. If he'd had some other reaction then she might have been concerned. Instead she thought about his question before moving her hands again. 'Grandma.' Was the simple answer. She wanted to get something for Phaedra. She was their Grandma that they were allowed to see without restrictions since it wouldn't be weird for her to spend time with them. Since Dovian and Thea were Phae's children then it wasn't odd for her to be around Siofa or Arkadios. 'What do you think Grandma will like?'

"Something for cooking!" That one was easy. Their grandma was one of the best cooks he knew and he loved spending time with her because she always had the best snacks. Auntie Thea always made sure he never went without, but there was just something about grandma's cooking that made him smile. "But...it's gotta be nice. Something just for her." Something for cooking was nice, but it wasn't very personal unless they thought really hard about it. That part was the hardest. "Maybe we could...get something from Tale? From a vendor?"

Something for cooking made sense. Their Grandma always made the best food. Snacks. Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner. It didn't matter. If her hands had any part of it the food was amazing. Years of practice, the woman always said, and feeding their Grandpa. Sio brought her right hand up to her mouth and tapped a finger against her lips in thought. Her eyes were cast to the side as she thought more about what her brother said. Something just for their Grandma. A thought struck her and she looked back at Ari. Her hands went back to signing. 'What about a...' Her little hands paused. While Siofra was good at signing she sometimes didn't know or forgot how to signal a certain word. Or she got too excited and her hands got jumbled. In this case she had forgotten since it wasn't a word she used all the time. And spelling it out would take forever. If she could even spell it! 'We should get a..' She tried again, hoping the sign would come naturally but it didn't and she got frustrated. The thing about Sio's frustration is that it showed in tears. Finally the little girl got closer to her brother and used her voice instead. "An engraved spoon or pan." Her little voice was rough from disuse and barely above a whisper but her twin should be used to hearing it since he was typically the only one she spoke to.

Were all grandmothers good at cooking? Ari had never met his grandmother on their mother's side, but he had to wonder...Maybe she was like Phaedra, but different? In a way he was glad he hadn't met her; if they had then they might have to buy two gifts and shopping was expensive. His mental musings were cut short when Siofra started to struggle. "Uh, uhm, spices? A fancy jar?" At that point he was just tossing out ideas and doing his best to fill in the gaps to help. Instead, he was met with his sister's voice and couldn't help smiling a little. After all, hearing it was always a rare treat! Arkadios reached over and gave his sister's hand a squeeze. "She'll love that. You always have the best ideas, Sio."

The ideas that Ari had tossed out were met with a smile. She liked when he tried to guess what she wanted to say. Sometimes his answers were silly. But when she got it out and he said it was a good idea she straightened up and beamed. Sio nodded her head and then looked around with some concern. Where could they find a place to get something like that? Since she'd used her voice already she didn't see the harm in using it again, though she kept it quiet and just for her brother to hear. "I don't know where to go." Siofra wasn't sure if she had to get a pan first then find someone or if one person could do all of that. Would they go to a blacksmith? If that was the case then both their dad and their uncle were blacksmiths. That caused her to frown. Could they just ask one of them to make it?

"Papa or Uncle Rydan could probably make one." So long as it was metal then it shouldn't be too hard for them. He'd certainly seen their uncle forge more complicated pieces and he assumed their father could too, even if he hadn't spent as much time with him. "I bet they'd even give us a discount too because you're just too cute." He reached over to rub his forehead against hers and pull back with a smile. Regardless of whether they were twins or not, Arkadios had a habit of treating Sio like his precious little sister. "Do you think they would have any of those metals that change color when they get hot? I saw a couple daggers like that from Belrea once."

When he brought his forehead to hers she smiled and almost giggled at the affection. Sure they were twins but Sio fit the little sister role better. Plus Ari had a way of making her feel better and safe. She thought about what he said. They saw their uncle more often than they saw their dad. So Siofra figured asking their uncle would be the safer option in getting the gift made sooner. As for the metal.. well.. Her little shoulders came up slightly in answer. The little girl honestly had no idea about that one. In truth she'd never paid much attention to the different types of metals. "Ask uncle." It was the best thing they could really do.

"Okay, so we'll ask him." Which meant that the majority of their savings would be given to their Uncle, but that didn't mean they had to spend it all right then. "What if we got him a gift, too? Something small so he'll want to do the work for us?" It would be a very obvious bribe, but one made in love never the less. "Like a snack or something? Or lunch?"

She looked at her brother with a small curious look before her hands came up and signed. 'Bribe?' Siofra had no other word for what Ari wanted to do. He basically wanted to make it so that their uncle would do the work for them. Her head gave a small nod to the mention of snacks. "Bitter sweet stuff." She used her whispering voice yet again. Siofra had a small advantage in the fact that she spent her days silently watching what went on around her. That meant she tended to pick up on things about other people. One such thing being that their uncle liked bitter sweet snacks.

Ari's eyes flashed almost as bright as his smell. "Yep, a good bribe. Something he won't be able to refuse." Not that he would; their uncle was a good man and if he knew how much it meant to them he was sure to help out. Within reason, though, and that meant they needed to sweeten the pot a little. He gave Siofra's hand a squeeze. "In that case I know just where to go. Let's go by Old Mini's shop and see what she's got for sale today." The older matorian was mostly known for her baked goods, but if she was in a good mood then she had been known to make other sorts of treats. If they could manage to nab something from her then they'd really be in the clear. "Does that sound good to you?"

Seeing as her brother agreed with her that they were going to bribe their uncle, Siofra started to giggle. With the hand squeeze she listened to what he said and the name made her perk up a bit. So she nodded along. Sio liked the baked goods there anyways so it was perfect! "Mhm!" She was quick to agree that the idea was a good one. Of course she then started to look around to figure out which way they needed to go.

"Let's get going then before all the good stuff is gone." Arkadios gave his sister's hand a squeeze and started to lead the way. If it was food related then Ari knew just which streets to take. The boy may have been compared to his grandfather a time or two, but it was his mother's appetite he'd inherited. The woman had a penchant for grazing throughout the day and so did her son. "I'm glad we got to come out today, Sio." As much as he loved spending time with his family, getting one on one time with his twin was special. She always tended to be more open when it was just the two of them, and it felt like a special little gift just for him.
