He wasn’t even supposed to be powered up tonight, it was a stupid fluke. He just wanted to get home quicker and not have to deal with the cold. His car was in the shop getting fixed and he was too prideful to call and ask for anyone to help give him a ride. He had his job now, he was a professional. He couldn’t be asking his friends to drive him around everywhere.
So, he powered up and tried to beeline home despite the cool weather. Being in a stupid toga didn’t help, but somehow it seemed to be a little less chilly than his coat.
And, it worked out for the better because on the way home a youma jumped him, so. Fabulous. Like he hadn’t already had enough on his mind, but. Whatever.
It came from behind and he was so cold he hadn’t been focused on anything but that. He hadn’t even felt any energy signatures--or maybe he was just too cold to pick them up.
Either way, he’d been shoved into the snow and had to roll over to face the youma that was trying to dig into his back. It was a monkey-like creature, with oversized hands and a tail with a club. He only had a stick--and a lightweight one at that--and he was trying his hardest to bludgeon it but it just wasn’t working--and the coldness of the snow seeping through him wasn’t helping.

Bellite was enjoying the cold. It was nice to go out while powered, it felt nice. Like a hug.
What was not like a hug was the Page who had been tackled by a youma right into a pile of snow, well, he certainly wasn’t having a good day, that much was for sure.
For a moment, she simply watched, half amused, and then when it struck her just where she had seen the Page before, the Captain paused and grinned, teleporting to cover the distance between herself and the two who were struggling. “Seems like you’ve gotten yourself into a bit of a spot, Meninx. Shall I help you out of it?”
She hadn’[t meant for the words to sound so mocking but…well. Nothing she could do about it now.
Summoning her axe, she gave the youma a sharp tap on the back and cleared her throat. “Enough. He’s mine. Back to where you came from, darling.” Bellite put power behind the words as she spoke, and watched the creature to make sure that it left. “Back to the rift, sweet one. You’ll find another knight soon enough, I’m sure.”

Oh, great. Her. At first he thought she’d just shown up to gloat, and when she sounded so mocking he just grit his teeth and looked away.
He was still shoving the youma; he’d hit it a few times, and he had scratches all down his arm and back, but all she had to do was just tell it to leave? It wasn’t fair.
The youma didn’t even give her a hard time. It dug itself off of Meninx and left. Just like that, practically in a poof.
And then, it was just the two of them. His face was burning, mostly from embarrassment. He’d done his best to fight it but that was pathetic, and she was witness to all of it.
He muttered, “Thanks,” as he pushed himself up, but he wouldn’t look at her. He held his weapon tightly in his hand even as he brushed the snow off of himself.

When the youma left, Bellite felt rather satisfied and gazed after it for a few moments, hoping that it was at least comfortable wherever home was. Perhaps…she would go and find him. Make sure he was all right. Perhaps she’d bring him a starseed if she was able. It would be the least she could do for sending him away from his target this time. Then again…he was her garget. So…perhaps it didn’t really matter after all.
Holding out a hand to the page, Bellite chuckled. “You’re welcome. It’s not often that I can say I helped someone get a monkey off of their back. You okay?”
Bellite was teasing, but there was a genuine worry in her voice too. After all, this guy owed her a trip up to his wonder, and she wanted to make sure that she got paid.
“He didn’t break the skin, did he? Youma can have some nasty nails.”

Meninx had just finished brushing the snow off of him after he’d stood up when it registered that she was talking to him again. His face was burning, his ears were burning. He wasn’t used to feeling ashamed like this and he’d had a long, stressful day. He hadn’t eaten. He was making excuses, his mother would be so disappointed.
He was disappointed.
“I’m fine,” he said, noncommittal and unenthusiastic. If he was hurt, it was his own fault.
“I don’t have more than a scratch, it’s not a big deal.”
Not compared to the weapon she was carrying around and what she could do to him. But then--why was she asking, what did she want from him?
“I wasn’t expecting to run into you so soon. You’re not following me, right?”

Bellite stared at the Page for a moment before breaking into a laugh. The idea that she would be following him was funny. What reason would she have to follow a nobody page?
“Goodness! You have a high opinion of yourself, don’t you! No. I’m not following you, I was just out enjoying the weather, gathering some energy, the normal things one does when the sun goes to bed.” She chuckled again, shaking her head. “Following you…My gracious. No, It was just me being in the right place at the right time. But, if you’d rather, I could call him back and let you deal with him? If that’s the issue here, I mean, I don’t mind, I didn’t mean to steal your thunder or anything like that.”
He really wasn’t acting like someone who was pleased to have been saved…
But then Bellite lit up and grinned at the Page. “Or, you could keep the promise that you made to me, and take me on a tour of your Wonder~ That seems like a fair reward for saving you!”

A muscle in Meninx’s jaw twitched and he felt himself heat up again with anger and embarrassment. “It’s got nothing to do with having an opinion of myself and everything to do with the fact that I’ve run into you twice in such a short time span, and that hasn’t happened with anyone else. And you want something from me,” he reminded.
He still didn’t know what she could do at his Wonder, and now that he’d been all of one time he wasn’t sure that she’d even be impressed. It’s not like he had anyone around to talk him through this.
Not like he had anyone to watch his back.
“...I can’t stay for long,” he said, and though he sounded reluctant he knew he wasn’t the one with the upper hand right now. “...I don’t know if you’re even going to like anything up there. But I can take you up for a little bit.”
...And maybe, that would be enough.
He didn’t want to admit that he couldn’t really give her any sort of tour or anything, but maybe it would get her off his back.

Bellite’s eyes sparkled and she nodded. “I don’t care how long we stay for! Oh, I’m so excited you don’t even know.”
She laughed again at his accusations and shook her head. “We’re near the same area, it’s around the same time. It’s nothing more than dumb luck, Meninx, I promise you. I’ve simply been patrolling more and getting out into the world more than I have in the past. So.”
With a shrug, the Captain held out her hand. “Let’s travel to your wonder, shall we?”
