Kaiva had snuck up on her with such a quiet that Karothdra had actually yelped when her daughter had spoken up in that soft voice of hers right next to her. She’d been in her office working on some papers and been surprised. Karo had grabbed her and sat her on her lap as she’d continued to work and Kaiva watched with that quiet contemplation before asking if they could go gift buying for the family since it was the season of thanks.
Karo had agreed and they’d left the house, giving some reason or another to Tyiva and their other children before going into town for some shopping.

Kaiva 1
Kaiva was always interested in what her mother did. All the maps and sometimes small baubles that represented armies and whatnot, she just found it fascinating and fun. Like a game that she wanted to play and Karothdra was more than willing to show her exactly how to play. She was always giving her strategy books to read, and she gobbled those up quickly, they played chess together as well though she had yet to beat her mother. Someday though, some day she would beat her.
Until then, mama Tyiva had said it was the season of thanks and Kaiva wanted to go out to get gifts for the family.

“Alright then, what was it you wanted to get?” Karothdra scanned the merchants. It was busy as usual, and she was never above looking out for dangers especially those who could be dangerous to her children. Thankfully the villager stares at stopped and they were all accustomed to the three Alk half breed children that Karo had. She started glaring at quite a few of them until they’d started getting the idea.
“Maybe we can get you some new books as well while we’re here.” Kaiva was devouring the library so Karothdra didn’t mind getting some new books for her. It would be her gift to Kaiva for the season.

“I want to get something for mama’s hair. And then maybe a little animal figurine for Svadra and a nice necklace for Xylia.” Kaiva’s eyes scanned the merchant booths as they weaved through the people. “I think mama I will get you…” She paused as she spotted a particular merchant booth and ran over. She was going to get her a new quill for writing since she’d been in her office a lot today.
“I would like to see the red one please.” She looked it over when the merchant handed it to her. “I’ll take it and with a pot of black ink as well.”

Karo walked with ease as she followed Kaiva along. Her daughter looked like she was calculating her every move before she finally picked one merchant in particular. The gift for her was a good choice but she stayed quiet as the little Hybrid looked it over.
“You can put it on my tab and have it sent over to the house. Thank you.” Karo gave the merchant a nod before she followed along again. “These are going to be some fine gifts you’ve chosen. I think they’ll all be very happy.” She certainly was looking forward to her new quill.

“Do you think you will like your gift?” Kaiva asked as she grabbed Karo’s hand as they walked. She was still observing some of the merchants to find some of her favorite. “I think everyone will like their gifts very much.”
There! Kaiva tugged her mother to Tyiva’s favorite jeweller in town. Or at least she tended to shop here a lot so Kaiva thought it was her favorite jeweller.
“Hello Kaiva, Karo.” He inclined his head.
“Hi! I am looking for something for mama Tyiva’s hair and a nice necklace for Xylia.” The merchant would know whom she was speaking about since they’d been here before.

“Yes of course.”
Karo watched him take out a few boxes before her attention turned elsewhere. She would pick out gifts at another time for now when she was in town again. She was thinking about picking up some gifts for Kaiva before they left.
“Kaiva I’ll be right back.” She headed to her usual book merchant. He smiled when he saw her coming, she was probably one of his best customers.
“Hi Ferial, anything new for me?”
“Of course, I thought to pick up a few extras in preparation for this time of the year.” He took out a couple of books so she could leaf through them.

Truthfully, Kaiva liked all of the items before her. Tyiva already had plenty of gold hair hoop things so she disregarded those. Why would she get her something she already had? But then she spotted some other ones who had jewels or designs embedded in them. Some with the red jewels she thought would fit well for Tyiva, but the design ones were pretty too. Tyiva contemplated it for a bit, maybe the jewels would be a little too much and she would enjoy the designs engraved a lot better.
“These ones, I’d like four of them please.” Kaiva gave a little nod, these would be perfect.

Karothdra looked through a couple of books. Some they already had at home and she wanted some new ones. In the end she went with three thick books which she paid as well as her previous tab and asked for them to be delivered to the house. She wondered what Tyiva would say when she saw she’d bought more books. Their library was starting to get a little cramped. With that purchase done, she looked over to see Kaiva still at the other merchants and decided to head to a blacksmith. She may as well shop for the family as well. She was going to get Tyiva a new dagger.

The merchant then went ahead and took out a bunch of necklaces. Xylia already had a lot but she wanted to get her one that would match the lotus she put in her hair.
“I need one with a lotus.” None of the ones so far had one.
“I have this one.” The necklace was gold, and there was a gold lotus at the end and at its center was a teal jewel. Kaiva liked this one. It would be perfect. It would represent the Alkidike side they all shared very well.
“This one definitely.” She said with a smile.
“On Karo’s tab?”
“Yes, please and thank you.” Now there was just Svadra left.

Maybe Karo would get Svadra a blade as well. That wasn’t such a bad idea.
“I’d like to see your daggers please.” Maybe she’d even get a matching pair and give one to Tyiva and one to Svadra.
Karo watched the merchant bring forth a bunch of seethed blades. So, she opened them one by one to look them over, sometimes stabbing into the air or flipping it to test the daggers' balance. She definitely wanted to get something a little closer to Alkidike styling, but this merchant had very few of them. The last blade she opened though was perfect in design and handling.
“This one. Do you have another like this?”
“I do not but I can make another.”
“Yes, I’d like to purchase two identical ones please. I’ll also pay my tab and you can send these to the house.”
Another quick glance in Kaiva’s direction and it looked like she’d moved on to her next merchant.

Kaiva 6
Her last stop wasn’t one she made usually, but Kaiva found her easily. She was a stone carver and she’d always seen her beautiful work in passing.
“Hello,” the merchant said with a smile. “Looking for anything in particular?”
“Just browsing for now.”
Kaiva wanted to make sure she picked up Svadra’s favorite animal after all. She had a few of the ones she wanted, different sizes and different stones. Kaiva liked in particular the one that was all in black stone, it was so smooth and pretty. The other ones were more colorful with reds and creams, but she thought the black one would be the best.
“This one.” She handed it to the merchant. “On Karothdra’s tab.” She took anything small enough home with her.

Karo headed to the one booth she knew all of her children were extremely well acquainted with. The sweets merchant laughed when she saw her coming.
“Picking something up for the little ones?” She was already gathering bags to put in their favorite candy.
“Yes, can you put all of their favorite as well as the special ones you might have right now for Xylia?”
“Of course, there’s quite a bit. I’ll need a bigger bag.”
"Sent to the house and on the tab. Thank you."
Karo was very pleased, she knew all of her children had a sweet tooth and would enjoy it if she brought back a small treat for them. Xylia would only get the bigger bag and special treats when they handed out the gifts. She paid her tab, much larger than any because her kids loved the sweets before going to find Kaiva.

Happy with her purchases, Kaiva found Karo again. She was empty handed so she wondered if her mother had ordered anything.
“I am good, should we head home?”
Karo nodded and Kaiva grabbed her hand. Once she was home she was going to wrap them up in some nice fabric and hide them so none of her siblings could find them before they were to be given. She wondered what she would get and if they would make a large feast like they usual did. She certainly hoped her siblings would like the gifts she had bought for them. Xylia’s had been the most expensive so far, she was going to owe a lot of chores for it.
