Picking Out The Perfect Gift

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

It's that time of the year again! Time to give presents to loved ones in the typical ceremonies of the people of Tendaji. But the question is - what is the perfect gift?

[ We're looking for two things in this world event. 1) Who is your character getting a gift for and why? 2) What exactly would be the perfect gift? You can spend the whole prompt reflecting on these decisions, asking a friend for advice on the gift to give, or going out and purchasing the gift. ]

Llyr looked around the market in Yael so that he could find a gift to send to his mother back home. He’d been on the road for some time and wanted to make sure that his mother knew he was thinking about her while he hunted for his dad and sister. Mostly he just wanted to know if his sister was alive. And if he could then he could take her home.

So now he was busy looking through the many different trinkets that all the vendors had available. As he looked over things he tried to think about his mother and what type of person she was. In his eyes she was a nice woman that cared for her kids. He just wasn’t sure what kind of gift would be good for her. Llyr wanted to get her something nice and shiny. He didn’t want to get something cheap either. Spending money on his mom wasn’t that big of a deal.

He’d briefly thought about getting something for his sister but then he’d have to carry it around until he found her. That wouldn’t be such a bad thing really, but then he wouldn’t have that space. So he’d settled for getting something for Skeena when he found her to make up for it. That seemed like a fair trade.

Llyr paused in front of one stall to look at necklaces. Some were beaded, others were hammered metal. Some were even crystals on leather cords. All in all there were many different types and he thought they all would look good for his mother to wear. He wanted to find something that would go nice with her blue complexion. He’d always been envious of her coloring. Neither him nor his siblings had gotten it either.

When he caught sight of a particularly dark blue crystal necklace he perked up a bit more and moved over to get a better look. As he got closer he saw that the deep color would go nice against his mother’s skin tone. With a smile he looked up at the vendor to try and get his attention.

“Excuse me, ma’am.” He called out. “Could I take a look at this piece please?”

“Yes young man?” When she heard his question she smiled at him and nodded. “Of course.”

She took the necklace off the display and handed it over to him so that he could look at it more closely. Llyr took it gently in hand and looked it over. As he turned it the necklace caught the light and reflected it back perfectly. The deep color changed to lighter shades but still looked beautiful. So he grinned to himself and then nodded before he handed it back to the lady.

“I like this one. I’d like it wrapped please.” Llyr smiled up at the woman.

“Sure thing, young man.” She turned to wrap the necklace up in gift wrapping so that it could be given to someone special.

When she had it all wrapped up and ready to go she turned around and set it on the counter. From there she told him the price and waited for him to dig around in his pockets for the correct amount of coin. Llyr had to dig through his bag a bit more than usual because he had so much stuff in there. After a minute he finally found his coins and he sighed.

“Sorry, I had a lot of stuff to dig through.” He apologized.

The lady chuckled a little. “That’s alright, at least you have the coin.”

“Oh yeah, I learned to save up my coin so I could buy stuff for my family.” He commented proudly.

The lady laughed again and shook her head at him before taking the right amount for the sale of the necklace. Once she had the payment she slid the package over to him.

“Well I hope whoever this is for enjoys it.” She said to him while wearing a smile.

“I hope so too.” Llyr thought about his mother and hoped that she would like the deep blue crystal.

Picking it up off the counter the hybrid boy put it away in his bag so that he could make his way to the post office. He needed to send his gifts out before he left for Belrea so that he knew they would get there before he made land fall elsewhere. He had some things for his brother tucked away in his bag as well but nothing as fancy as the necklace he’d just bought.
