Jhin had flown Aelle straight into Matori after receiving directions from the academy. They had not given him the exact address to Kyril’s family home but the nearby village had gladly helped direct him once he had explained that he was a close friend of Kyril’s that was looking for her. Apparently he was fairly well known by a petite Matori girl who eagerly directed him down the path. Just a few miles towards the south, along the beach and you’ll find a manor built into the cliffs! She had chirped before letting him go, a bright grin crossing her lips. And so here he was walking across the pristine sands of a Matori beach towards cliffs on the sheer belief that some stranger had given him proper directions. It was early morning and the ocean waves were crashing into the shore behind him as he walked along but Jhin was determined to keep going. Surely the manor would show up soon!
However, what he had not been expecting was to see the familiar figure walking towards him from the mists. The very sight had the ranger stop in his tracks as he simply stared at Kyril with wonder.

Kyril had been rushing to Oba so that she could reach the next caravan when she ran into him. The artisan stopped, surprise crossing her features as her belongings slowly dropped from her hands and plopped onto the sands around her feet. The ocean rushed behind her, the wind whipping at Kyril’s hair as she stared at the mirage who had appeared from the morning mists. “Jhin?” Her brow furrowed in confusion as she shook her head. Surely not! Maybe it was because she had spent the last day finally talking to her parents about everything that she was now imagining him? She missed him so much that she wished it was him but it didn’t make sense for him to be in Matori. Why would he be here?

“It’s me.” Jhin answered as he slowly lowered his own belongings and awkwardly faced Kyril. It was hard not to rush towards her, his heart was begging for him to take his love into his arms but the man was patient and curious to see how she would react. Honestly he did not know how he would handle rejection after coming all the way to Matori for Kyril and the very fear made him hesitant to rush into things. “I’ve missed you.” He offered quietly as he took in every aspect of her features, her braided hair, her silk tunic that clung to every familiar curve of her body and the golden eyes that gleamed in the morning light.

Tears brimmed Kyril’s gaze as she left her belongings on the sand to instead rush towards Jhin. Her body slammed into his as she wrapped her arms around him for a tight hug, a sob escaping her lips. “I was….I was supposed to surprise you!” She finally managed in a wavering voice as she clung to him, her face burrowed in the crook of his neck.

A breath of relief escaped Jhin at the impact and he found his arms tightening around Kyril as she hugged him. “I’m sorry.” He managed as his own voice wavered with all of the emotions that came spilling forth at the sight of Kyril. He truly had missed her with all of his heart and while he had expected things to be a bit more tense it seemed that they had actually missed each other more than they had been willing to admit at first. We’re stubborn fools. He acknowledged as he held Kyril close and allowed her to calm down, his own racing heart reminding him that she was not the only one excited to be reunited.

Kyril sniffled as she finally pulled her head away from Jhin’s shoulder so that she could peek up at him. “I’m….confused.” She started slowly as she tried to blink away the tears. “Why are you here?” She swallowed to try to hold back the sobs that threatened to come back, her fingers tightly gripping Jhin’s tunic for support as if she were afraid he would simply vanish into thin air. This was real, he was real. She had to believe that.

“I’m here because I wanted to see if you would come back.” Replied Jhin quietly as he rested his forehead against Kyril’s and slowly raised a hand to wipe away her tears. “I realized that nothing is the same without you, Kyril. I don’t want to live a life without you and even if that means I need to come to Matori then I will.” His lips curled upwards into a small smile as he studied her, the truth spilling easily now that she was actually in front of him. “I didn’t want to leave my home, but then I realized life felt so empty without you being next to me. If you don’t want to return to the forest then I’ll find a way to adapt to life out here.”

Kyril’s gaze softened as she listened to Jhin’s words. “I don’t want you to give up on your home and honestly that place truly found its way into my heart as well.” She admitted quietly as she leaned against Jhin, her grip somewhat loosening as she found herself relaxing. “I want to come back with you, Jhin.” Kyril finally stated as she leaned her head back and looked at him with a smile.

Jhin couldn’t find the words to express himself so he went by instinct and bent down so that he could capture Kyril’s lips. His every wish, his every desire for happiness had been caught in that moment and he wanted to show Kyril exactly how much he treasured her. She was going to come back with him! The girls would be delighted to see their mother and he would make certain that she was happy in the forest. No threats would dare to touch his family and he would fend off anyone that even thought about challenging their relationship. No more of this drama, no more uncertainty, just pure acceptance of their love and their family.

Warmth spread through Kyril’s chest as she kissed Jhin back. It felt like an eternity while they stood on that beach, their bodies pressed together as they continued expressing their affections for one another, but eventually the pair parted so that they could breathe again. Kyril’s cheeks were flushed and her heart was racing in her chest, the frantic thuds reverbing in her ears as she studied Jhin. “I’ll take that as a yes to my idea.” She managed with a laugh as she rested her head against his chest. “I would like to come and travel between Matori and Oba a couple of times a year if possible, at least once if we can.” She would have to bring the girls home so that they could meet her family after all. Kyril also would miss the sounds of the ocean but there was something about birdsong early in the morning with the sound of the nearby stream that also warmed her spirit. She had dearly missed that during these few months apart.

Jhin chuckled. “I would be insane to say no to any of this.” He replied as he rubbed his hand along Kyril’s back, “I’ll try my best to get us to Matori at least twice a year so that we can visit your family….which I should probably meet soon, right?” A flush decorated the back of his neck as he realized that he had yet to meet her family even though he had stolen their daughter from them. Or had she stolen him? Either way they belonged to one another now he supposed. A true partnership indeed.

“You probably should.” Replied Kyril with a soft laugh. “I suppose since you’re already here we may as well head to my home for a night or two?” The woman pursed her lips thoughtfully. “You could meet my parents at least and maybe a couple of my siblings. They come and go so there’s no telling who will actually be home tonight and tomorrow morning.” But then they would have to rush back to the forest because she missed her girls so much. “How are Ana and Zota?”

“We can do that.” Jhin agreed even though he did admittedly feel nervous about the idea of meeting Kyril’s family. He could only hope that it would go well considering they had allowed their daughter to leave their home again to find him. Either way he found himself prepared to face anything as long as Kyril was with him again. “The girls are doing well but they do miss you.” He admitted. “Tyka is watching them and Giya left the rangers since she couldn’t get what she wanted.” The admission made him nervous but he wanted to be honest with Kyril. There was no hiding anything, no risking harming her from here on out by leaving out information.

“Then we’ll head to the manor in a bit.” Kyril looked around at her scattered belongings and frowned. Perhaps she should have thought that through before tossing everything to run to Jhin. No regrets. Her frown grew at the information before she found herself letting out a sigh as she slowly accepted things. “I see. I miss the girls dearly as well and I won’t lie to you that I’m thankful Giya is gone. Is that bad?” She winced as she studied Jhin. “I never thought I was the jealous type but I truly didn’t want to lose you to her and she seemed so confident at the time….I was a bit of a mess, wasn’t I?”

“A little but I think we all were.” Admitted Jhin as he reached down and squeezed Kyril’s hands. “But I’m glad you felt a bit jealous since it means you did care about my decision.” He acknowledged before slowly adding a bit more. “I wouldn’t want you any other way though Kyril and I don’t care if Giya was still around. I only have eyes for you because you’re the one who has my heart. So please don’t think otherwise.”
