Arsenolite was extremely nervous. He tried very hard not to show it as he walked deliberately through the halls, each step thudding in a way that made him want to wince, but he didn't, keeping cool. The world felt like it was going in slow motion no matter how hard he tried not to visibly appear nervous and also keep calm on the inside.

Of course he was excited to be Noticed by the Queen, to be summoned to her office all offical-like for reasons he didn't know yet, but there was a large part of him that was screaming he was about to be removed from the Negaverse and stripped of his powers as an Agent.

Sigh. He would never admit it aloud, but he did tend towards the same dramatics as his (former) brother did, and the soap operas he loved to watch so dearly didn't help at all.

Soon enough, he arrived at her opulent door and took a deep breath. He was okay. He was fine. Nothing would go wrong. His mask of confidence slid into place as he knocked on the door, making sure not to appear too confident, or like he was better than her, or anything of the sort. Confident but deferent. He was a Good Agent and he adored his Queen.

Laurelite’s office wasn’t the most welcoming, but she had designed it for practicality. She wasn’t really here to entertain guests; when she used her office, it was to work. The General Sovereigns knew how to reach her when she was out, so it was a bit frivolous to be so available for everyone.

Except, she was in a good mood. The success from earlier this month had meant that Laurelite was around a bit more often, and while she knew she wouldn’t always have this much time to devote to such things, she was making good use of it now.

“Come in,” Laurelite called, not too loud and not too sharp. She was the perfect balance of power and politeness.

She sat at her desk with an array of crystals scattered, some of which looked like they might have been from the Rift, and some which might have been--at some distant point--starseeds. It was a project she was obviously engrossed in, but it was quickly forgotten when Arsenolite arrived.

She looked at the door and waited for him to enter. In front of her desk, a single chair sat, empty. She didn’t need to tell him that she expected him to make himself comfortable in it.

Arsenolite opened the door and shut it behind him, overwhelmed by being in her presence almost immediately. So many feelings rose up to the surface and jumbled him around. Taking a deep breath, he bowed briefly, then sat in the chair as upright and proper as he could manage.

"Good afternoon, Queen Laruelite," he said politely, a bit of nervousness slipping into his smile, "Can I ask why you summoned me here today?"

He hoped that didn't sound rude, and as he waited for her answer, he looked over the crystals on her desk with interest. For him, they were just generally pretty rocks. He knew these kinds of things meant stuff to other people, but it was nonsense to him.

Well. The starseeds weren't. But he wondered if these crystals actually had special properties and weren't just "oooh, this quartz banishes nightmares" or whatever.

“A little bit of business, a little bit of pleasure,” she answered, smiling as he observed the crystals she was working with. “Do you like them? I find myself fascinated with their potential. It’s only a matter of time before we find better ways to utilize our powers.”

She seemed like she had all the time in the world, but she hadn’t brought him there to be cruel to him.

“You’re not in trouble, if that’s what you're worried about. Tell me, how do you think you’re doing? Have you settled into the Negaverse well? I want to know what you think of things.”

Arsenolite nodded in answer to her first question about the crystals, and then she said the thing about not being in trouble and he relaxed a bit, shoulders going loose. Thank goodness. Well. Thank Chaosness?... Nah, changing his language was too much effort for something probably stupid like that.

"I think I'm doing well, yes," he answered slowly. "I've really enjoyed my time here and I strongly believe in what we're doing. I've got a very good friend here, and a lovely girlfriend, and I'm certain I've been pleasing my General, Ashanite. He seems to like me. I hope I can eventually do more to serve you and thus, Metallia. Honestly and frankly, no flower talk? I freaking love it here. I feel like I have a great purpose for once in my shitty life. It feels... so nice to have a sort of family. That won't judge you."

While Laurelite seemed a bit surprised by the candid answer, there was no doubt that she was pleased with it. Her eyebrows raised just a bit with interest, but her eyes themselves softened, and even her smile seemed a little kinder.

“I do like to hear that,” she said, and tilted her head only just slightly as she observed him. “In fact, I very much appreciate that answer. I’m sure any of the General Sovereigns would have been happy to have some time with you but I’m glad to have this pleasure.”

Especially given that he’d said she wanted to do more to serve the Negaverse.

“I hope it won’t come as a surprise that you’re due for a promotion?”

Arsenolite gasped a little, eyebrows raising and jaw dropping a bit in utter shock.

"I... Well, sorry to dash those hopes, my queen," he said with an embarrassed chuckle, "But it is rather surprising. I wasn't sure I would—or could—qualify for one... so soon, I suppose? But I will not let you down, I swear."

He straightened up, looking at her with full confidence now. "This is truly an honor."

Laurelite smiled as sweetly as she always did. She pushed herself up from her desk and moved to stand before it as she gave him one more look-over.

“It isn’t often that I bring people into my office. But I wanted to get to know you. You’ve been quite on top of your energy quota. And I can’t help but notice your name came up in two reports, Sakuraiite and Monoceros, yes? You played quite an important role in bringing them to us. I think that’s worth praise. I’ve always been a fan of saving who we can. War does not always give us the opportunity to, though. It makes me hopeful for your future. I regret to inform you only that this may be a bit uncomfortable. Would you like to get it over with now?” she asked, and she raised a hand to his chest. It hovered there, waiting for permission.

“I’ll take care of you,” she assured. “And then we can talk more, if you like. I know this can be a draining experience. But it’s important to me that you know I like what I’ve seen, and I trust that you won’t let me down. I don’t share my power with just anyone. I’m sure you’ll go far, though. I think you have the makings of someone great.”

Arsenolite nodded, allowing her to push her hand in his chest. His body tensed up as the pain swept through him. Damn. At least he was more prepared this time, staying on his feet and only grimacing through it. ********, this sucked. But he was gaining power, and when she was done with him, he could feel the difference.

"Whoa," he whispered, blinking hard. "I... Thank you, my queen."

Laurelite withdrew her hand and laced her fingers before her. She took a moment to appreciate the new Captain before her and nodded approvingly.

“You don’t have to thank me for this. You’ve earned it. Congratulations, Captain Arsenolite. This is a good look for you. I look forward to seeing what the future brings. I know you won’t let me down.”

It was praise, and not quite a warning but there was something serious about her words.

She wouldn’t accept anything less than his best.

Arsenolite nodded, suppressing his grin. He was definitely not going to jump up in excitement after he left her room.

He'd at least wait until he was a hallway or two away.

"Thank you," he said, bowing, and left.
