It was Candy Cane Season again at Sweeties, and while Evie liked candy canes as much as the next guy...the smell of peppermint got so overwhelming and old, very fast. The night was brisk, and Evie was dousing her hands with apple scented sanitizer to try and get some of the peppermint hidden, and it was doing a pretty good job...but she could still smell it. Like it was inside her nose, lodged partway into her brain.
Ah well. The holiday rush would be over in about six weeks...this would be fine. She survived every other year and there was no reason she wouldn't survive this one too.
She moved the lollipop to the other side of her mouth, savoring the flavor of caramel apple, it was one of the last few that they had of this special, and she was always sad to see it go, but again. Autumn would return again next year and this dance would be done all over again.
There was a rustling sound from the bushes, and Evie slowed her steps slightly, glancing over, pursing her lips and reaching into her purse just in case she would need her pepper spray...it was always something useful. Especially in a city like this...but when she saw a beautiful cat step out of the shrub, she cooed and quietly began shuffling over. “Oh! You’re so pretty! Hi there, kitty!”
It was wearing an absurdly big necklace and looked as though it had a sticker on its forehead. “Are you lost, cutie pie?”

It really was a lovely late autumn evening, but it was the kind of late autumn evening where Soyala was quite glad for her thick coat of fur, and quite piteous of Senshi, who so often wore so little. Even ones like Elsa, who she'd known for quite some time, ever since she upgraded him--he had an icy, wintery sphere, and still, such a light fuku!
She'd spent most of their patrol that evening curled around his shoulders, like a furry scarf, but she'd parted from him when she thought she sensed something.
Something that sang for her.
"A moment," she told him, leaping off his shoulders and scrambling over to the nearby bush, which put her face to face with what she had been sensing.
Now that she was close to this girl, she was certain of it--this was an unawakened starseed.
How lucky! And her, here with someone who could do something about that.
"Hello," Soyala said. "You're sweet, but I'm exactly where I need to be."Elsa stayed back, a bit. He'd seen the girl. Soyala was talking to reach into her purse, and he suspected that she, like plenty of other girls he knew, probably carried pepper spray and definitely wouldn't react well to a strange dude in a weird outfit creeping up on her.
So, let the cat handle things for the moment. Soya was smart, and also had the advantage of being a gorgeous, fuzzy cat, which got people's guards down really quick.

Evie paused as the cat spoke to her. “Oh. Well. You’re polite, aren’t you? And talking. I mean, I suppose that’s not…ah.” She sighed, rubbing at the bridge of her nose. “I think I might be working too hard, but if you’re where you need to be, I won’t steal you away, then.”
She glanced around, a little wary but a little eager too…it…well.
“Is this where I get three wishes or something? Are you the start of a side quest that’s going to change my life forever, because…I accept if that’s the case.” She grinned and reached out, stroking the soft fur on her head. “Bug if such is the case, and this is not one of my wishes, but please let me cuddle you. You’re beautiful.”

It was always nice to find a Senshi who was eager to be Awakened. And she even had a good idea of what was going on, one way or the other! Sure, this wasn't exactly a video game sidequest--Soya couldn't play, but she knew enough to pick up the references--but it was something sort of close to one, and that had to be good enough, right?
"You're welcome to cuddle me," she said, "but you've also guessed correctly: I am indeed here to change your life for the better." She gently pawed at the girl's shoulder, and nodded towards where Elsa was waiting.
"But so that we can continue this little quest, you'll need to carry me over there. You can cuddle me and walk, yes?"

Evie lit up at the permission and scooped the beautiful cat into her arms, cradling her and stroking down her back. “I can cuddle and walk. I’m quite skilled that way.” She laughed and began to walk in the direction that the cat had shown her. “So, what kind of a side quest is this going to be? Will there be treasure? Riches? Beautiful boys and girls who wish to win my hand?”
The grin on her face was large and very genuine…at least until she saw the black clad stranger waiting in the darkness.
The moment she met eyes with this man she felt all of her limbs absolutely lock. “...What the hell is going on?”
Damnit. Her arms were too filled with cat to grab her pepper spray and…
She really thought she was going to need it.

Soyala purred contentedly, glad that she had managed to successfully find a candidate that was so cheery and clever. "Oh, I wouldn't call this a side quest, darling," she said, "more like...the first act of the main plotline. And it could lead to many of those things, for you."
But the poor girl was tensing up, Soyala could tell, and she started purring louder.
"It's alright, Elsa is going to help. We need him and I both to properly awaken your powers," Soya said.Elsa sighed. She was scared of him, because of course she was--she was a young woman in a potentially hostile situation.
He put his hands up, in a gesture of surrender.
"I'm not going to hurt you," he said. "I guess Soya didn't explain the whole deal--I'm Sailor Elsa, of the Dark Mirror. Since Soya brought you to me, that means you have the potential to be one of us. Magical. If you want it, Soya and I can help you awaken that potential. But if you don't, we'll part ways right now."

Evie took a few moments to just think about it. He was honestly saying she could just walk away right now, and he didn’t seem as though he wanted to hurt her…
Finally, she nodded, still looking at him with slightly narrowed eyes and an expression that was rather challenging. “All right…I want to awaken the potential, but. I wish she had told me that someone else was involved…You’re seriously not going to like, kidnap me and sell me to some creepy…creep ring, right?”
She knew that that was something that still happened even in this day and age and she didn’t want any part of it. But…
…The guy’s name was…Elsa...and he had strange fuzzy black wings on his lower back. He didn’t…look like someone who might be involved in anything creepy but…
“I…yeah. All right. I’ll trust you, but only if I can keep holding Soyala.”

"I'm sorry," Soyala gently batted at Evie's cheek with a paw, "you're right, I should have warned you. I got more than a bit ahead of myself." Sometimes she forgot the intricacies of human society, which was a tragic side effect of being a cat. But at least Evie was agreeing to come, and she hadn't lost out on getting to bring a new Senshi into the Dark Mirror. because if she'd panicked or run away---they might have lost her to the other side.
Tragic.
"In any case, I'm not going anywhere."Elsa snorted, amused.
"As you can see, the cat decides if you get to keep holding her. You'll have to put her down for a little, but just for a second." He beckoned for her to follow, towards the mirror at the end oft he alley. It was antique, leaning against a wall, and looked bott hlike it belonged--like ti could be discarded trash--and very out of place at the same time. A full-length mirror, mysteriously unobscured, undamagewd, and jsut...out there.
Odd, certainly.
Unless you knew what it was for.
He extended a hand to Evie.
"I'm going to take you to a place called Mirrorspace. There will be a giant black mirror, and you'll need to put Soya down so you can walk through it. Once you come out on the other side, you'll be magical. Sound good?"

Soyala was a trustworthy cat, Evie was sure about it, and the idea of gaining magic…of becoming someone truly special...
She reached out and took hold of Elsa’s hand, nodding. “Yeah. Yeah that doesn’t sound so bad. I…think I can handle walking through a mirror. It’s um. Nice to meet you, Elsa. Thank you for um. Helping and not being a total..ah.” She bit back the word man...because that was such a rude and rather…overbearing insult. Just because most men were untrustworthy…didn’t mean they were all that way.
“Jerk.” That was more neutral, Evie decided, keeping her other arm around Soyala as she prepared to go to this…Mirrorspace.
…She hesitated though, as the idea of walking through a mirror really took hold in her mind but…if she had issues with it, she was sure he would answer when the time came.

Elsa gave a brief nod, and gently gripped Evie's hand, tugging her along with him and into the mirror. Inside was Mirrorspace--gray and shifting and swirling--and before thme,t he Throne Room doors. Elsa kept Evie's hand in his, just in case, and pushed them open with his free one, bringing her and Soyala into the room. Before the Black Mirror, which waited, silent and shadowy.
"Okay. This is the weirdest part, but it's totally safe. Just walk up to that mirror. And then keep walking, until you go through it. When you come out the other side, you'll be magical."
Then, he held his breath. This was always the touchy part.Soyala gave one last encouraging purr, and then leapt from Evie's arms, darting around to wait at the back side of the mirror. Her tail swished, and there was excitement in her eyes.
"Come on," she said. "I can't wait to see who you're going to be."

Evie was rather silent as they went into the mirror, and her eyes were growing wider as the moments passed. This…well. If this was a joke, it was very well done and she was highly impressed. This isn’t look like anything she had ever seen in her life, and…
The mirror rippled slightly as she stared at it, but…that was okay. This was okay. She just…had to walk into another mirror. No big deal. And…and Soyala was waiting on the other side so…
Carefully, Evie moved towards the mirror, and as she drew closer, her steps grew far more confident, and then…she was through.
She had changed, and…Elsa was right. She was magical.
Oh, and it felt wonderful. Blinking, she looked down at the dark bloomers and pale colored overlay. “Oh…oh Soyala…I think…I’m going to enjoy this!”

Soyala was practically vibrating with anticipation. It was just so difficult to wait--to let a Senshi take their own time to step through the Black Mirror and become who they were destined to be.
But Evie did it. And oh, she was beautiful.
"Hello, Sailor Leona," Soyala said. "The Senshi of Cryoseism...hmm, what an interesting sphere."
Soyala did a little flip, and produced a henshin pen, picking it up in her teeth and offering it to Leona.
Perfect.Elsa moved over to the newly-minted Senshi--Leona of cryoseism, apparently--and gently put a hand on her shoulder.
"Take that pen from Soya," he said, "you'll need it to power up. To power back down, just think about it. But, uh....let's get out of here, Mirrorspace is usually totally safe? But it can be a little tetchy. We can find somewhere quiet to sit and I'll give you the whole rundown on everything."
Awakenings were always something of a pleasure. There was real joy in seeing someone new brought into the Mirror.
He would just have to make sure Leona understood everything she needed to before he let her go.
