Fangnyl's human glamour had worn off and he winced when it fell, leaving him in all his purple, pointy-eared glory. At least it was nighttime, so he could pretend he was at a late costume party for Halloween or something. He really needed to keep a better eye on that.

He bit his lip, walking around, trying to ascertain someone he could drain so he could charge his stone and use his glamour again when he needed it, but there wasn't really anyone alone right now. Damnit. That sucked.

But then, there was some kind of scuffle, and screaming, and he forgot all about charging his stone, sprinting towards the sounds and then screeching to a halt when he saw.... absolutely nothing physically happening, but some guy—a Knight, he recognized—and a Negaverse agent on his knees and swinging at things Fangnyl couldn't see.

Well then. Wasn't that interesting. Morbidly fascinating. Eventually, the magic (because it must have been magic) wore off and the Agent sprinted away with his metaphorical tail between his legs.

He turned to the Knight with a wide grin on his face. "What kind of magic was that?" he asked enthusiastically, not giving the poor guy any time to switch gears between battle and non-battle, "That was amazing!"

There was a sort of delightful, beautiful adrenaline high that came from victory, from knowing that he had driven a Negaverse officer to flee with his tail between his legs. Normally, Aokigahara derived no pleasure from making his opponents suffer, but much as it had felt like an imperative to see fear in the eyes of the agent that had killed that poor alien, it felt pleasing to strike out at her comrades in retribution for the awful death he had witnessed.

Perhaps that wasn't how it was supposed to work, but it felt good.

So it was with a start that he jolted, hearing that strange voice, and whirled, ready for another fight and cursing himself for burning all his magic.

But. It was one of the aliens. Not one he knew. So he took a sharp breath, and narrowed his eyes.

"You shouldn't sneak up on people when they've been in a fight," he warned. "They mighty strike you without thinking."

He took a moment to calm himself, before he went to answer the question.

"My magic causes the people caught in it to see hallucinations of mutilated ghosts. It is neither pleasant nor fun, and I don't know if amazing is the word I would use."

Fangnyl winced, giving Aokigahara a sheepish sort of smile. "Yes, well...I'm sorry. Thank you for not actually hitting me," he said, bowing slightly like he'd seen and heard was a sign of respect.

"Mutilated ghosts?" he asked, blinking, "I only learned about ghosts during your Halloween... Spirits of the dead, yes? Aren't they fake? It was my understanding that all this Halloween stuff was merely entertainment... Regardless, what it does is amazing if it drives off those horrible Negaverse."

He sent a hard glare down the street, as if that nasty agent could see him, especially when he'd fled so quickly that Fangnyl had the vaguest impression it would've left a cloud of dust in a cartoon. He'd only seen a couple episodes of random ones, by watching them in shops he'd stood for far too long in, so he wasn't quite sure he was right, but was personally funny regardless.

Aokigahara exhaled. This poor visitor--he so clearly meant no harm, and it had just been his bad luck to stumble upon a fight and get a little too excited going in afterwards.

"It's alright. Take more care in the future, is all. It would be unfortunate if you were injured by accident."

To say the absolute least.

It was perhaps unsurprising that the alien visitor believed ghosts to be pure fantasy. Aokigahara likely would have said the same, despite his devotion to his religion, until he became a Knight. Now, having dealt with a Wodner that had so clearly bene full of lingering pain and malice for so many centuries, it was hard for him to immediately discount anything.

"Halloween is for entertainment, yes," Aokigahara said, "but you'll find quite a lot of disagreement as to the reality of ghosts." He shrugged. "My Wonder displays ghostly phenomena. Phenomena that was active, malevolent, and malicious for many years. Other Knights speak to the ghosts of their ancestors who have since passed. PErhaps those are imprints of energy or memory--but they are something."

A very poisonous smile spread across his face.

"And for my magic's purposes, it doesn't matter if ghosts are real in an objective sense. What matters is that it's terrifying to have the violently murdered undead grasping at you and begging for help."

Fangnyl nodded, taking the advice to heart. He would most definitely be better in the future about this, and he hoped nobody would learn of his silly mistake.

He hummed in thought, head tilting to the side as he processed all the information thrown at him. What did many people think about ghosts, then? What were they to different kinds of people? He didn't quite think they were real, after all, starseeds got sent to the Cauldron upon death, so... Hmm. Aokigahra's theory about imprints of energy made some sort of sense, at least.

"Oh," he said softly, shivering at Aokigahara's description. "I can only imagine. I hope I never have to experience it. It sounds... gruesome."

He wondered if he would see Caerynn, if Aokigahara used his magic on him.

"You'll want to be careful," Aokigahara said, "if you get in the middle of fights. Some magic, like mine, catches everyone in its radius; it would be deeply unfortunate to accidentally get caught in a similar spell."

He paused, for a moment, to consider other advice he might give.

"Also, Knights with my colors and symbol," he held up his lantern, so Fangnyl could see the Saturn symbol on it, "are of the planet Saturn--the planet of death. So many of us have similarly horrifying magic. Effective for our enemies, but it does mean that you might be well served by being wary of getting too close."

Fangnyl looked over the symbols and nodded. "Thank you for the warning." He paused, considering. "I think I've seen enough of it in my lifetime already without needing magic for it. Have a good night, then."

And he turned and left, not having accomplished his goal, but with new knowledge anyway.
