Hoplology - Caelesti's primary area of study back home was in hoplology. Hoplology was at some time defined as 'the science of arms and weapons of offense and defense, man and bestial' and then subsequently as 'the study of the basis, patterns, relationships, and significance of combative behavior at all levels of social complexity.'
The three areas of hoplology are as follows:
- Technological hoplology studies the development of weapons, armor, and other combative tools in relation to the contexts in which they are created.
Functional hoplology delves into the structure, development, and organization of combative systems and their relationship to the application of fighting and weapons.
Behavioral hoplology encompasses the psychological and physiological factors that affect one’s combative behavior and development of combative capabilities such as weapons or fighting systems. The broad subject range of behavioral hoplology means it also includes the effects that culture has had on one’s evolution as a group-social animal.

Anime - Not too long after coming to Earth and getting settled in, he is somehow going to get introduced to anime and manga and he is going to be absolutely enamored with it. He is going to initially be a bit confused about the concept of fictional stories and this may set him back a bit in learning how to fit in on Earth, but he'll learn. Eventually. But part of that learning also results in him becoming something of a weeb. Caelesti wasn't really allowed to have individual interests thanks to his parents, but now that he is actually allowed to explore his own individuality.... Whoo boy is diving in hard.
Virtues:
Enthusiasm - Being able to explore his own interests is pretty new to Caelesti, so he doesn't know how to dive in to anything in moderation. Once he finds something that interests him, he consumes everything there is do do with it with a deep passion and excitement. There is no lack of enthusiasm with which he pursues his interests. An all-nighter learning a new skill? Absolutely! Read five books about a singular subject in under a day? You bet!
What happens after he has learned all there is to learn and consumed all there is to consume? Well, enthusiastically use that knowledge and share it of course!
His enthusiasm doesn't just pertain to consuming knowledge, but also actively taking part in things that pique his interest or curiosity as well. Once he figures out that he isn't limited to just books or academics, but can actually get out there and take part in things Whoo boy! Although he can be a bit self-conscious, when he gets wrapped up in the excitement, that all goes out the window. (Just umm...don't point that out. He is still working on just how much emotion is appropriate vs inappropriate and embarrassment is one of those emotions he hasn't learned how to deal with yet. He is a budding young tsundere, even if he hasn't found that out yet so~ emotion_yatta )
Generous - 'What appears as mine is thine as well!' Caelesti is a pretty generous individual, whether that be with things, knowledge, or his time. At the heart of it all, he does want to be viewed well and believes that helping others and giving them things is the way to help achieve that view. He also likes that nice feeling he gets when others are happy and it's because of him. It helps that he had been conditioned to not develop close feelings of attachment to tangible things, so possessions are not really that hard for him to give up, and he also has been taught that the good of others comes before him, and although he is learning to have his own individuality, that is still there within him to put other's needs first.
Flaws:
Chameleon - Once Caelesti truly had his eyes opened to how he had been raised and started scrutinizing the psychological and societal aspects, as well as healed from the wounds of his epiphany, he became something of a chameleon. Just like their reptilian color-changing counterpart, the key characteristic of the social chameleon is an ability to blend seamlessly into any social environment. At first, it was subconscious. Then, Caelesti became consciously aware and began to adapt their own behavior in situations when they felt they were not creating the right impression. He developed an adeptness in assessing social cues and scrutinizing others with keenness so as to know what is expected of him before making a response. Caelesti tries to be as others expect him to be, in order to get what he wants.
To some who see him in multiple different setting, this makes him appear inconsistent. For others, the Caelesti they know is the Caelesti he wanted to appear as. For him, it is merely advantageous, but he does seem to understand that this may not be something others look well on him for. They are just as confused about who he is as he is.
Fragile Like a Bomb - Caelesti represses a lot. Not that he has really noticed it - not being completely emotionally aware of yourself will do that to you - but it does build up. Pair that with Caelesti not hiving actually been taught how to handle his emotions, let alone strong negative emotions? Yeah, he kind of explodes. To call it a violent tantrum would be an understatement; this emotional pressure cooker is an absolute mess when he finally goes off. When he does, it doesn't matter who or what you are to him, if you are in the emotional blasting zone, take cover. His temper is destructive and loud. Oh, what's that, you want to mitigate disaster by telling him to control himself? Well, looks like you hit a trigger because the boy is kind of tired of being told how he is supposed to act or feel. If he is going to control himself, it's going to be because he wants to - see his Chameleon trait. But someone else telling him to cool his s**t? Well, maybe just don't do it while he is actively going off and you might be okay.
This can definitely get him in trouble with higher ranked Valencians, but is also something that he is eventually going to get better about as he gains more experience and knowledge. He is likely to always have a bit of an attitude though.

Appearance: 'Gene' is a very pale, short, thin and youthful looking boy with short but somewhat shaggy dark teal-green hair and large golden eyes.
Clothes: After establishing himself on Earth, 'Gene' seems to lean towards rather 'cute' clothes with lots of layers and frills. Very 'boy lolita,' but for something a bit less flashy, he likes cute boy sailor outfits. He is baby.

Appearance: Caelesti has golden eyes and light cyan/teal skin. His hair is a short and somewhat shaggy dark teal-green. Caelesti is short for a Valencian, and is very lithe, and could be described as having a 'swimmers build.'
Weapon:
Cadet Weapon: Stun Baton - Contact with makes you feel like you've just been hit with an icicle - cold, but more of a shock of sudden cold than anything.
Corporal Weapon: Short Lazer Spear - Being hit makes you feel like you've been pierced by an icicle. The feeling of freezing cold lasts for 15 seconds upon contact.
Commander Weapon: Lazer Naginata - Being grazed by it makes you feel like you've come in to contact with ice so cold it burns, a sensation that lasts for up to fifteen seconds. The blade is powerful enough to slice or stab. (For cosmetic effect I would love to eventually get an enhancement were, as the lazer blade is propelled through the air, flecks of light resembling snow flurries fall from it? plz? emotion_kirakira )

Backstory
Caelesti is the younger brother of Gavaen.
Caelesti wasn't allowed to have individual interests or much by way of any individuality thanks to his parents who, even by Valencian standards, were extreme in their stance on social behaviors and propriety.
After their first son was such a...disappointment, they really doubled down on Caelesti, who was taught to do as he was told and not question anything. It was ingrained in to him that everything was to be done for the good of Valencia and its people; that having personal feelings or interests was selfish, and selfishness and having personal ambitions was shameful. His only purpose was to better Valencia, and personal interests would get in the way of that.
It was his brother that at every given opportunity would try to undermine his parent's upbringing by asking his brother what his opinion was, or how he felt. Caelesti was often at a loss for a response, finding that he didn't have any aside from what he'd been told was the right way to feel or think. Gavaen was the one who challenged him to think deeper. When asked what he enjoyed or similar questions, Caelesti again was at a loss. If not for this, Caelesti may have continued to blissfully live the life of the complete drone his parents wanted him to be.
Caelesti would find himself thinking about this more and more as he grew up. All he could find beneath the vast nothingness was resentment and distress. Pain and emptiness. Caelesti, not knowing how to deal with such emotions, bottled them up. Surely he'd find some time to ask and learn what these feelings were and how to manage them. He couldn't ask his parents, because as far as they were concerned, he 'shouldn't have such feelings', as they were no doubt a 'sign of selfishness and had no place in progressing Valencia.'
(And finding out about his brothers death - especially after finding out about his brother's death, which I assume would be shortly after he arrives on Earth, unless communications about losses was able to be transmitted to home? Will trigger an intense emotional crisis and be a big catalyst for him in development.)
Stealing away from his parent's supervision to spend time with his brother was the only time he got to freely explore emotion. It resulted in a close bond and personal growth, but deep down, subconsciously Caelesti was still clinging to the opinions of another rather than developing his own individuality, as he simply followed his brother's cues.
This included joining the Vanguard.
Although it was also his parent's wish for him to do so, their wish was a bit soured when his brother years earlier had also been accepted in to the Vanguard. To them, it cheapened to achievement that their black sheep of a child was able to get in.
There is still a lot of emptiness within Caelesti, surrounding the question of just who he is, and exploring that is going to be a main point of growth for him as he truly finds himself and his own reason for living.
A more official reason for him being sent to assist is his knowledge and primary area of focus in weapon development.
