Læraðr really did not want to go out on patrol again. Not after running into that freaky snake guy so many times and getting knocked unconscious. He wished he was stronger already, had his magic already, so he could defend himself and the civilians better, but he wasn't, and he didn't, so he couldn't. It all just really, really ******** sucked. All he wanted to do was help people, and he routinely got his a** kicked.

At least, he supposed, he was being a distraction for a bit. Just long enough, hopefully, that most people were choosing to go home instead of bother to be out any more in case they had to kick more a**. Or, if Læraðr was lucky, they'd get their asses kicked.

He sighed as he kicked at a pebble, and then his blood ran cold when he detected a nearby corrupt senshi aura.

...He was so getting his a** kicked again, he thought, as he ran towards it, but he couldn't not react. Going home instead of actually dealing with a problem ran counter to what he believed in, no matter what the outcome would be. He just hoped he'd get there in time to save whatever poor soul this senshi was after.

Civilians, as far as Mirzam was concerned, were the deeply unlucky fools who were caught in the crossfire of this magical war. She didn't wax philosophical about it often, but she did occasionally let herself drift down the path of wondering if what she was doing was right. Not often enough to really care, of course, but often enough. Generally, she came to the conclusion that it didn't matter--that her targeting one particular civilian (this time, a jocky idiot who had heard her giggle and flirt and followed her into an alley in the hopes of getting some) wasn't exactly going to alter the cosmic balance. Some other officer would get them eventually. Few people in this city, she suspected, were totally unscathed.

This time, she didn't bother with a starseed; as far as she was concerned, his gutter soul wasn't even worth the time it would take to reach into his chest.

So she drained him until he slumped over, and then dropped the body in a pile of garbage bags, and was starting down the alley when she felt a Page.

She sighed, heavily. Ugh, this was almost certainly not going to be nearly as fun as the night she'd met Helena.

"If you're hoping to get in my way," she called, "you're too late!"

Maybe that would discourage any nonsense.

Læraðr raised his eyebrows, and before he could think better of it, said, "Oh, really? Well, I suppose I'll just go then."

He shook his head, ponytail flying. "It won't be that easy, punk."

Really? Punk? Nobody ever said he made the best choices. But man, some of them were just extra stupid.

"Give it back to him."

Mirzam raised her eyebrows. Glanced back at the unconscious civilian. Glanced over at the Page.

....Grinned, slowly.

"Are you sure you want me to do that?" She asked, idly, and she juggled the energy orb between her hands. "Because that might not have the results you want it to."

Her target had been a jock, and he'd been all up in the possibility of defending her.

Which meant she now had an idea. A quite terrible, quite awful, quite evil idea, if she was entirely honest.

"But if you insist," she said, and she let the energy ball in her hand dissipate, letting it flow back into her victim. She could always make up for one night's lost quota, or in fact she could simply find another person to drain. But this...this would be entertaining.

She watched her victim start to stir, and before he could wake up fully, she looked over at the Page, and whispered the name of her magic.

"Bedlam Dance."

Then, she ran over to the barely conscious jock, and said the name again.

"Bedlam Dance."

It made her wobble a little on her feet, casting her magic twice in such quick succession. But ti would be worth it.

"You have to help me," she gasped. "Please, that man--he attacked us, and I--I need your help!"

Hopefully that would encourage them to fight, and she would be able to escape. Or watch, she wasn't sure.

Quote:
Mirzam speaks the name of her attack, touches her chest, and then gestures outward at a target within six feet of her. Green smoke swirls from her hand to the target, and they are filled with a desire to cause chaos and bedlam--which can include attacking nearby civilians, breaking objects within reach, or any number of other things, including attacking Mirzam!--and if they resist the urge, they feel as if they are burning up from inside, like the rage is causing actual physical pain. This attack lasts for 25 seconds, and Mirzam can use it three times per battle.

Læraðr's eyebrows climbed even higher when the Senshi gave in, and he backed up a step, watching her with suspicion. Clearly something else was going on here, and he didn't trust her one bit. Everything about this moment screamed something like "just stepped into the boss chamber whose level is 20 higher than yours". His eyes widened when she cast her magic, not once, but twice, and his head already started to feel funny. Green smoke was inhaled and he coughed, shaking his head violently. Geez, the green smoke reminded him of Scar from The Lion King. Oh, that was interesting. He felt... jittery. Needed to do something, something crazy, like—

Like fight a guy who'd attacked someone. Us, she'd said, attacked us, and that almost didn't make sense, but it did. He let out a little cackle.

"Be prepared!" he sang, picking up the civilian by his shirt and slamming him against the wall, and he growled low in his throat.

"So you think attacking girls is funny or cute, huh?" he snarled, "You think it's cool of you to go after women? I got news for you: it's ******** not, bro."

He slammed the guy against the wall again with a maniac laugh. "Tell her you're sorry! And I might let you go home mostly unscathed!"

If there was one thing Mirzam could say for the civilian, it was that he was brave.

"What are you talking, about, freak," he said, stepping in between her and the Page, "she was with me." Not an ounce of hesitation, not a moment of pause, just straight into it with someone else to protect a woman he barely knew.

Mirzam grinned. Yes, this was perfect--they were clearly eager to fight each other, which meant neither of them was fighting her.

With the both of them distracted, she turned on a heel.

"Toodleo, boys! Don't hurt each other too badly!" She called.

Then, she vaulted up onto the roof of the nearest building, and fled into the night.

Læraðr's head really, really hurt. He shook it hard, pressing his fists to his temples, trying so very hard to ignore the burning sensation, the impulsivities, all of it—

By the time it subsided, Mirzam was long gone and he exhaled slowly. Well, ******** home, man," he said tiredly, "She tricked us both."

He turned and left the confused civilian, upset and angry. Why couldn't he do more?

There were no answers to his plea.
