It was an absolute thing - getting a firm grasp on the teleportation s**t. He would’ve liked a firmer grasp on a lot of things. The nausea, vertigo and outright ‘hurk’ sensation that seemed to come along in tandem, like an uninvited dance partner, with all of his attempts at doing anything cool. Nothing that couldn't be told to shove off and go sit n’ wait in the hall to be invited back in.
Still a nuisance of a feeling though.
Something to be seethed through bared teeth and shaken down after…
“Thank god Sylvi ain’t here tah..bleh...see this. ********…” curses spat atop the rooftop which he’d managed to get himself up onto. Proud for it, and the thing wasn’t more than two or three stories up, he could’ve jumped it if he’d wanted to. It was just the ‘Mall’ afterall, but he’d thought it was good, safe, relatively safe for him at least?
Practice grounds. All flat surfaces were practice grounds. Things he could get sight lines on - things that he wouldn’t end up wedged between like a goddamned cartoon trope. The sinking fear that came with the idea he’d find his a** on one side of a wall and his head on another - was a distinct fear.
Whatever, he’d work on it. Maybe after the little energy shopping trip? Coulda been nice, practice draining from a distance with his Girl - check off one more box. Shiff of dreads, and it was all a little easier if he swung his hair up into something more manageable. Tied up and off with as shuck of shells, cowry scented ocean that wafted in and soothed his nerves as he crept up towards the edge of the skylights that limned the ceilings
“Whatdya think orbies - ya think she’s gonna be all impressed I put on a shirt? I think she’s gonna be impressed!” soft laugh for the fat glorb that popped free - flickered out of hiding and nestled up in his dreads - buzzing like patient static while he breathed around his own excitement.
Sought patience and senses enough to wait ---
Until the meeting, Sylvite hadn’t been thinking nearly so much about energy draining. Her General quota was so low and her draining abilities were so powerful these days that she could just walk down a crowded street for like half an hour, pulling energy as she went. Then she’d be back in her office, talking to all her new underlings, or maybe she’d go to the park to look for Order so she could work on her personal Information projects.
Then aliens or whatever had shown up and now their quotas were massive.
It brought Sylvite right back to her Lieutenant days. Back then, getting energy had been her whole thing. She’d spent whole Saturdays at the mall in her cute little Lieutenant outfit, hiding behind clothing racks or even just walking down the hallways when it got busy, and she’d bump into people one at a time and then she’d apologize bunches and then she’d walk away with just a tiny bit of their energy.
It had been pretty effective back then. Hopefully it would be even better now, since she had more powers and such.
Oh, and a senshi with her.
She’d borrowed Albite, since she thought she’d be able to distract him from asking questions better than some of her own underlings. Plus, she’d told him that she was gonna check up on him, and she fully intended to follow up on that.
She popped into existence on the roof easily enough, and followed the aura to the corner where Albite was hanging out even easier. At that point, her jaw dropped. She stared. It turned out she didn’t have to feel weird about staring this time, ‘cause he was wearing a shirt now.
It was a really fancy shirt. A super fancy shirt, you could say. “Woah, you upgraded!” she said, grinning so wide that she could feel her cheeks stretching. “I was gonna ask how things were going, but it looks like they’re going pretty great, huh?”
She clasped her hands in front of her chest, eyes sparkling.
“Also, hi.”
“Sylvi!” bark of surprised whoop as he trotted up like an eager pony who only recently got out of their three inch heels, reached with gumption to scoop her up into a twirl. Albite grinned like a manic pixie dream girl, and laughed easily for the praise; because yes? Not only was he hot s**t now, but he was the kind of hot s**t that strippers working their way through college picked out of catalogues.
“Ohmygod - lissn, lissn you wouldn’t even believe it. Getting the powers that be to give it all up to you is, like, the worst-best thing ever? There were vanta black crystals, and everyone was there, like my team, and axinite and-and I got touched by a cat Sylvs - I touched a cat - I cried a little? It ******** hurt like - I dunno - whatevers above broken ribs, but below being cracked open from the inside out?” and Albite sighed out the air he’d dragged in to run on the sentence he’d spewed out.
Wanted to hug her and maybe also cry a little, because she had enough fabric to wipe that s**t up and hie it in, and it was fine to be excited enough to tear up a little bit in front of ‘this General’. Would’ve been a little less than stellar to be all emotional over a promotion infront of badass battleaxinite, wouldn’t have ******** ‘done’ to sob into a sugar cookie until it was soggy.
Stopped to breathe and just - Seeing her happy was the best - and getting ******** noticed? Having time to spend with her again after everything had been so goddamn busy? The literal actual best!
“Is it good tho, like ‘does it look good’ - ******** and you, yeah? Are you good?” missed her, missed her smile and her bright affect, ability to light up a room neon candy crush on black velvet style. Wanted to whine and crow for how new everything felt again. Fighting the ******** learning curb for wrangling in all the power he’d been handed, while also buzzing with it. He’d practice though - with her - with his General - with whoever made themselves available. Made it perfect when she’d called out to him, because he’d been so used to ‘touching’ - needing to touch and be tactile with every damned thing. Now apparently he had range? Could traverse space time on his own whim, and ah the pressure for managing that!?
It would be nice to have someone easy to work on things with….
Sylvite broke into a run for the last few steps towards him. She jumped straight into his arms when she saw where this was going, and she giggled like a kid in one of those whirlygig fair rides as he swung her around. Ugh, he was such a good one.
She made sure her feet ended up back on the ground afterwards, though, and she pulled away just enough to admire his cool new outfit. “Yeah, upgrades kinda suck, but they’re totally worth it.. I mean, look at you! It’s super snazzy. I love that gem collar thing!” Not that it should have been a surprise. Sylvite always did love a good shiny accessory. She reached forwards to run two fingers over the bigest gem, her eyes going so wide that they practically sparkled.
The vest thing was cute, too, and luckily, Albite was probably wearing just enough clothes to not get kicked out of the mall at this point, which was good. She’d brought one of her dad’s shirts in her subspace pocket, but she didn’t know if would’ve been able to talk him into wearing it, so it was probably good that she wasn’t gonna have to worry about all that.
“I bet your magic’s really cool now, too, yeah? I know you were getting kinda annoyed before, ‘cause it wasn’t good enough.” She was pretty sure everyone felt that way sometimes when they were just starting out, but that had been then. Now, it was way more than just Albite’s clothes that had changed. She could feel way more power coming off of him than there had been before. Not that she’d ever actually seen what he could do, she realized. They’d have to get around to fixing that at some point.
“I’m good,” she said, grinning. “Way better now that some of the Rift drama’s dying down, honestly.” She was a little bit tired from all the draining they were having to do, but she could handle that better than some of the other stuff she’d had to deal with.
“Their opals, at least, I think they're opals?” rolled shrug, and he preened a little bit as she inspected him. Leant close enough that she could poke, prod, and prize over his new getup. Grinned as brightly as the cloudy silverlined gems shone. “Either that or some kinda weird abalone? Firebrand seems all het up on ‘em too. Went on about it all like - that maybe Generals have a hand in it? He’s got a metal collar thing so I’ve got a collar - matching aesthetic and the like.” and Faustite had explained it to him, once, about cosmetics n such, or like, the sky tailor?
“Though I figured that’d lead to - uh - more clothing, not this…” snorted for the idea. Cause faustite was so ******** buttoned n belted in. Then there went Metallia dazzling up her harem to be hot and also in ******** style. Sharp dressed men and scantily clad Senshi, as if the lady of all things dark and shadowy was trying to make a very pointedly, pointy, point. Albite was ever so stunned to find himself in ******** heels of all things. Hadn’t asked for em, couldn’t complain, except for the few days of baby deer walking because even a few inches stacked on made a helluva difference for him. Meant he stepped on his hair less at least. So, that was a bonus. Except now he had more hair worth stepping on….sooo…..
“I’m so glad your good Sylvs.” and she looked good, if maybe tired, but also happy to see him, and maybe all the Generals looked tired most of the time?
“N ******** yeah, the magic is so much better now! I’m...lissn..I’m starting to think I should just roll with the whole bigass ‘stripper senshi of bondage’, vibe. Cause, ohmygod, binding magic? Which - great for retribution purposes, n like, team s**t, but also?” could’ve choked and cackled at it all. Ate the laugh and the mirth that held his features wasn’t going anywhere.
He loved it. Every bit of new fun and pleasure, far outweighed the whole five seconds of pain under darkly wielded kitten paws.
Thought of the rift, bit off a scowl, and he’d had a good time, but no one else seemed to have had one? Especially his people...and that..that just would not do.
“Ohyeah - ******** the rift drama - with something sharp even. M’glad you called me out, cause I can use all the help on getting a hang of, ah pickathing, and of course bonding time!” because he wanted to leave the mall with ‘something’ in hand, and because seeing Sylvite was top priority out of everything. Checking in, checking up, going over gossip and getting tips n tricks of the trade. She’d know how best to do it - get energy - get it while doing it from a distance?
N he could lop off his locks and let ‘em vanish into the ether. Give his wistful glowbugs a pat n tell em to head home.
Could get to work with his bestest, brightest, bubblegum girl.
Sylvite didn’t really care if it was opal or abalone or some kind of Rift crystal that didn’t have a name. It was so pretty, shimmering as she looked at it from different angles. Best of all, it made Albite happy. She didn’t know if what he was saying about matching his General was true or not. She hadn’t seen it in any of her own underlings, although to be fair a bunch of them had been transferred in from other people.
If it made him feel close to Faustite, she wasn’t gonna ruin that for him.
Albite might have held back a laugh at his own bondange comment, but Sylvite didn’t. She gave a bright little giggle. “Hey, we’re allowed to use our powers for fun,” she said with a little eyebrow waggle. “Even Axinite says so.” To be fair, she’d been asking him about doing parkour at the time, but she was sure the same concept still applied.
“Like, I’m glad it’ll help you in battle, too, though! One of the best things about getting an upgrade is feeling a little bit more useful, yeah? Plus you’re less likely to get your butt kicked if Order decides to get weird.”
Or, apparently, if aliens decided to invade. That was kinda a big deal. Hopefully Albite’s stripper magic would be enough to help protect him from all that, or else the energy stockpile that they were working on would do something.
Hopefully the thirteen chosen ones ended up getting enough.
“Okay,” she said, clapping her hands in front of her. “Energy time. Let’s see you in action!” Her voice stayed light. She was excited about getting to hang out and do some draining and training, even if things were a little bit deeper than she was allowed to talk about.
She broke away towards the edge of the roof with a bounce in her step, only pausing when she hit the edge. She glanced back. “Oh yeah. Down there you should probably call me Livi. It’s my secret Nega nickname.” She wiggled her fingers. “You’re worthy. Congratulations. Also, it makes us a little bit less obvious.”
Oh, holy ********, Livi was such a cute name! Soft smile and swagger as he followed after her, traipsed up to the edge and looked over, and hoped that he would keep being worthy of knowing Sylvites super ultra secret nega nickname.
“I love it, heh, Livi’s so ‘you’. Anything special I need to do, or know, or like. Know to do? Before we drop in on ‘em n like, not raise hell I guess, cause I don’t wanna get banned from the mall today.” tsk’d softly, and even in magical guise? No need to get his powered self so easily spotted and marked for future trouble, just in case he decided to snatch Sylvite's technique and run it on repeat.
Wondered if he should pop out a special name. Except all he could think of that was close to ‘albite’ was..”Jeezus, teh uh - Mau who helped in my little upsgradscapade called me ‘Albert’, was a freaking hilarious kitten. Though my middle name is Auraulo? So - ah - maybe something A’centric just in case..…..” paused mid sentence, a lightbulb that clicked all the way on, and he didn’t know why he hadn’t thought to offer the things to her ********, liv. I’ve got uh - I have magical earrings? If you want? Then like - you can think things at me for the next two hours - in case we get separated. Is that--would that be a thing? I feel like that could be a thing!” and they could think of images, or words, or sounds or all sorts of things!!. Albite hadn’t thought about them in months. Faustite wasn’t overly fond of them - or really wasn’t fond of how he knew Albite would’ve used them. Turned the pair of them into a couple of little kids, sidetracked so easily, and the poor man-on-fire preferred his communications to be a tad bit more focused than Albite had a penchant for.
With Sylvite though? Might’ve been way easier to try em out!
Sylvite bounced up on her toes, hearing her nickname come out of Albite’s mouth like that. If anyone deserved to call her that, it was him, honestly. He just acted like the kind of dude that you shared secret nicknames with.
That just meant they had to come up with one for him, now.
“I dunno,” she said, taking half a step back away from the edge and turning back to look at him. He was reminding her that he was a new super, that there was a training element to all this and that she probably shouldn’t just jump off the edge and rush through the front door. “Do you think Albert’s your style? It kinda makes me think of, like, some old-timey sailor dude, with a feathery hat and little pointy shoes and those stocking things. Just Al could work, maybe, but I dunno.”
Even Al barely sounded like the kind of name that real people had.
She bounced right over to him at the words magic earrings, her eyes going all wide and sparkly. “Woah,” she said, “I wanna see! That sounds super fun, and useful, too. Then we don’t have to worry about being all sus with our names and stuff.”
She paused and suched her cheeks in. “We still gotta get you a super cool nickname, though. Even if it’s not today. We can think about it.” Rakovanite had figured out to call her Livi, maybe he’d be able to think of something.
She did manage to snap back into serious mode at least for long enough to step back again, out of sight. “Have you done draining from a distance at all before? You can practice it on me if you want, and then just give the energy back before we head down there. Then once your in you kinda just,” she made a little tugging motion at the air around her, “Pull a little bit at a time while you walk around. Pretend you’re shopping. Stop at the food court and have some ice cream with your cool friend.” Her smile widened. “You know.”
Albite couldn’t help but make a new face for each new name tossed his way. Scrunched features that broke on the idea of being pirate adjacent?! Cause he wanted a nickname - really he did, but he hadn’t thought it’d be so hard to find one that sounded good?!
“Yeah, we uh, might have to let time decide that one. Not that I don’t like the ideas!! But man, I don’t wanna sound like someone’s old a** dad…or a gruncle? Or like…” shrugged and tilted on what his boss had touted as being ‘kitten heels’, reached for subspace - so much easier now that he had energy to space, now that he thought of it like a space locker instead of some endless void beyond - produced from it a matching pair of black pearl colored earrings. They looked more like clip-one fashioned to fit along the shell of an ear than anything else.
Shiny, but otherwise inconspicuous.
“So, and it took me a while to figure these out? But these babies can like - let us send each other thoughts. Like mind meld s**t. Only lasts two hours tho - once we put em on.” Offered one up to ‘ Livi ‘ for inspection even and deftly attached his own as he bounced a little with excitable energy - liked that he didn’t have to worry about the things getting lost. They always seemed to come back to him after the time was up, somehow? Whatever.
“Hey, no better person to practice with than you, right?” because he’d just barely gotten the teleporting thing down, and that had taken soo much…
Usually? He could do draining in his sleep. He didn’t have to touch people anymore though, didn’t have to get close n cozy. Now he could just —-
“Okay —-“ and Sylvite was the coolest general, top spot — “Shoplifting with my best girl, snatching energy and throwing it in a bag. Getting Waffle cones!” The image was enough, backed up with small steps - tested the range as he *pulled*.
On space and time and Sylvite, like swiping a credit card at a register. Like sipping very carefully through a small straw, because she was his friend, because he was trying to be dainty and inconspicuous about it.
Wide eyed at the little fizzbubbled specs of energy that coalesced in his palm - and the trick became holding onto it while also being careful about it - keeping it - quietly and…
“Oh - Awwwh, Liv’s your energy’s kinda pretty.” and it was soft and warm where it was haloed in his hands - he had to cup it gently, baby walked it back to her, like moving to fast might lose it; wasn’t sure how to release it without accidentally storing it away before returning it properly.
Yeah, Al didn’t totally fit him, either. Sylvite scrunched up her face some more, trying to think, but Albite only really gave her so much to work with. There were only three letters other than the I-T-E that everyone in the Negaverse seemed to have.
“What’s your sphere?” she asked after a couple seconds. He was senshi, there had to be something cool and fun there, yeah? She went quiet for a beat, then raised an eyebrow. “Is it actually bondage? I mean, then we could call you Bond.”
She grinned, even as something went a little bit tight in her stomach. It was easy enough to push aside though, to replace it by wondering how he could possibly keep a straight face in front of Axinite with a sphere like that. Then he was pulling out the amazing magic earrings, which it turned out were cute on top of being both amazing and magical. Sylvite practically squealed.
“Ooh, these are totally my aesthetic,” she said, slipping hers on. Maybe not completely, she’d have probably taken diamonds or something a little sparklier if she’d been given a choice, but it was still super cute and it still matched her outfit. She slipped it on.
Then, all her attention went into going totally quiet, and still. It wasn’t easy. She was the kind of person who was always fidgeting and squirming around, but she didn’t wanna startle Albite or make the wrong move when he was doing so good at practicing draining her energy. It was working, too. She’d never actually had her energy drained before, and she wasn’t sure if it was fun, exactly, but it wasn’t bad, either. She just felt a little bit cold, and then a little bit heavy, and then her eyelids started fluttering, but at that point Albite was holding the energy back out towards her.
“Yeah, I always like watching energy swirl around,” she murmured quietly before she reached out for her own energy and popped it right in her mouth.
It was kinda weird to be eating her own energy if she thought about it too much, but it seemed to work fine. She shook once, feeling it all wash over her, and then she was as bright eyed and bouncy as she’d been before.
“See, you figured it out! It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it,” she said. “Anything else you wanna know, or are you ready for that ice cream?”
‘It looks good on you’ - thought that rang clear, sent it through the attached earpiece, and if he focused, and it took hardly any focus at all to get it all sent through. To think nice things at Sylvite when she was being so generous.
Good to test the tether of it, because if they got separated, if they split up? If they got bothered by too many people and needed to bounce - or went to other ends of the mall to stock up?
The earrings were gonna come in so handy for all of that.
Simple little thoughts to himself as he openly admired the sight of Sylvite retaking what was rightfully hers, lovely little light show that vanished like a magic trick, like popping candy being consumed with ease.
Strangely beautiful, all in one, and he was ready, het up and excited and - if he ******** up a little it was fine? There was a whole mall to go through afterall!
“Oh, I’m ready freddy. With like, bells n whistles on even! To be Bond - ah not bondage buh-- the secret agent one, right?” stupid little snort for that, because, holy ********, even he knew it sounded d u m b. Almost as dumb as ‘senshi of bondage’, snicker as he felt that sink in, because - yeah - he had told her he was a bondage senshi, and ohgod, if only that were t r u e!?
He’d never survive it.
“s**t, Livi - which --- my sphere?” wide eyes and wider grin as he hedged back a little closer to the ledge “Super of Retribution - formerly of Praxidike. The magic though? The cosmos must have a kink; cause it’s binding, all the way through.” might as well have been bondage for all that his tats worked like tethers, n whips, n chains to hold an opponent down..
Yeah, he’d told her that the earrings were magic, but Sylvite still wasn’t quite expecting to hear his voice, like, in her head. Her eyes went big for a second, but then she grinned again. Thanks! She thought back.
So that was working. It meant there was technically no need for nicknames, if they could just think things at each other instead of yelling about their magic aliases in the middle of the mall. It didn’t stop Sylvite, though. She’d gotten the thought in her head of wanting something cute to call Albite, and she was gonna figure something out.
She nodded at his sphere, although the grin slowly faded as he cracked more jokes about bondage, and, like, tying people up.
“Retty?” She suggested, then shook her head. “Nah, needs workshopping. Retribution’s got way more letters than Albite though, I’m sure we can figure something out. Just Rhett’s actually kinda cute. Trendy.”
There wasn’t a ton of bounce to her words, though, and she went quiet for a couple of seconds afterwards. She rubbed at her wrists. She looked down at her shoes.
“Hey Albite?” She asked eventually. “Can you, like, never use your magic on me actually? I know we talked about training and stuff, but, uh.”
She looked back up to quickly add, “Not ‘cause of the implications! I don’t care about that stuff!” She’d joke with him about stuff being kinky all day, that was fine. “Just-“ she swallowed. “Got tied up by Order for a week one time, so. Kinda can’t handle that part.”
Syvlites thoughts - and albite preened, mentally, glowed internally with the bright soft note of it. The way a thought felt, so damn different from words. It was HER, in his head like a soft pink sugar coated breeze, like a light tinkling charm. Lit him up to hear the gentle thank you. Except from the inside? On the inside? Voices but the best kind.
‘Rhett’ - felt like a thing, felt far closer than any grand-uncle name could’ve. He could’ve pulled on a Rhett next to a Livi and they could’ve been a whole pair. Just two normal a** people going to a mall, having a time.
And his urge to bounce over the edge and into action - to beg her spurr of enthusiasm on (and it was the cutest gosh-damndest thing to see her sleepy and then awake again!), how all of that hit one massive skidding h a l t.
Not because she had anything against the running gag of his magic being just shy of ‘kinkylinks’ - n o - Albite couldn’t have given three whole cows if she’d had issues about the implications or not.
The idea that it scared her though? That someone - ******** - had hurt her in a way that would’ve left her uneasy around him!? That would’ve made her nervous of what made up his core self - magic that lived and sung under his skin - that begged for the throats and lives of all those who raised its ire…
‘I’ll kill them’ thought that dashed red across his mind - that came so quickly, so vividly, that it took him a moment to realize he’d thunk it directly at her. Reeled that back, the little spike of anger - settled it like a boat on the water - gently enough to not rock it and make little mental waves.
“I’ll kill them” and now he was saying it aloud? It felt better somehow. To let the words match whatever thing he felt lay over his face. As he stared down at her — through her, just a bit, and — “I promise though? Never on you. It’s not— nah —“ and he didn’t need to explain how useful it was.
For pulling people off of ledges, or holding enemies or grabbing items or—-
“Never on you. Not even for practice. I swear.” Crossed his barely clothed heart, and smiled. Warmth treated with the barest tinge of sharpness, cause he was still mad at the invisible faceless things that’d hurt his friend, but he could never be mad at sylvite. Never.
“Now, Livi! Let’s go get enough Cinnabon to cause a cardiac arrest with!! I need to like, rinse my mind with cinnamon and empty calories.”

It was almost weird to hear Albite's thoughts in her head all, like, murderous, when she'd never seen him as anything other than completely sweet and supportive and happy up until right now. Then again, Sylvite herself was kinda the same way. Usually she was all smiles, but there was something different about her voice when she said, "There was one that was the worst. One of the glowy ones, Transcendent, a Chronos knight if the symbols in the database are right. Let me know if you find him, okay? I'll help." She smiled again, but it was cold. "I wanna make his intestines into a necklace." That was a later thing, though. Right now they had energy to get and sweets to eat. Sylvite ended that part of the conversation by doing a flip off the side of the roof, and then walking off quickly towards the door of the mall.

Blinked, slow-slow stare cast down, focus like a pinpoint - because he wanted to remember what little she was giving him to go off of. To lock that away. Because Sylvite deserved that from him, to have her enemies lain at her feet, cleaned and prepped and.. h u h. Albite wasn't sure if brains could blush. If a mind could glow and thoughts could be warm things. If he could make the intangible somehow 'real' - physical like the hug he wanted to give. Like the grin that pulled enough to bare his teeth; near snarl of pride. Just for her." Holy ******** Livi - You're a girl after my whole damn heart, yanno that?" let the words trail quietly after her glorious dismount - before following. Less grace, more power, superhero landing like the movies he watched with friends. He bounced up after her - and hummed as the glass n' steel automatic doors glowed into view. Tamped down the thoughts that wanted to burble up about how he would've seen it done. The visage of bubblegum-pink, misted in a red haze, bestowed with a crown of glorious gore that glimmered. Necklaces of red and pink that ran with the essence of her enemies... ' You're the absolute best Livi -- now -- the only question is? Do you or do you not - approve of snatching overpriced accessories from those kitschy little ripoff stores?' flung the happy thought loose and imagined putting away a tiara - a good enough thing to start with, maybe? The least of what she deserved.

What? No!The thoughts hit her so hard and so fast that it was a real struggle to keep them from coming out of her mouth, but that would've been bad, since they were coming around to the side of the mall where people were starting to come out of the double doors with their giant bags of shopping, or their little kids, and basically the two of them were going to have to go a lot more low down about stuff. Just 'cause I wanna wipe the floor with some dude who thought it was an okay thing to do to torture fourteen year olds doesn't mean I don't care about, like, the rules.War was war, and messed up things happened. If someone decided to be a soldier of Order and invade the Earth and act like a jerkface, then yeah, they opened themselves up to getting stabbed by a General of the Negaverse. People stocking shelves at the mall for minimum wage didn't ask for any of that. That was like, abuse of power, and Sylvite found herself shaking her head at Albite as they made their way inside. Sylvite shouldered her way past a small family in the vestibule, and once she was past, she flashed an orb of energy into Albite's line of sight before she sent it off to subspace. Also, I work at the mall, and trust me, if stuff goes missing, the managers get grumpy.

'Owkay!' mouthed the exclamation quietly to the sky as he thought it back at her nice n' slow, because blurting it outloud as they slipped by shoppers would've - well..... Better not to chance drawing more attention than he did on the regular by talking to himself. Even with how hit upside the head with that one. The unexpected steel of her thoughts that struck him so hard he had to wince for the way they resounded across the mental bandwidth and bounced about the inside of his skull. Because Sylvite absolutely had feelings about this one. Very firm, respectable, feelings. ' No shady shop lifting - or harassing the overworked 'n underpaid, yeh? Only wholesome energy snatching!' did so solemnly swear, crossed his heart and offered up a blurry caricature of what he believed 'scouts honor' might look like. Because Sylvite was good people, better than him, more - he would tow the line and behave - absorb in every new little detail she let slip, like blades between the ribs. How she showed him - and he needed that. To see how it was done rather than be 'told'. Got it all slotted a little better for watching her pluck pearls of energy free without missing a single step. In the conversation, into the mall, quick manicured hands that made quicker work of the crowds that brushed past in their hustle to get out the doors... So cool.' Fourteen!! Wait...wait-wait-w... howoldareyou!?' squinted at her gently; like if he stared long enough he could've managed the kind of x-ray vision that would've let him see straight through her glamour. Knew she had to be older - had a job, and managers, and morals -- 'N' you gotta answer honestly. Miss 'pretty in pink'-- ' so focused on her that he nearly missed a little cluster of friends - couples? Doubles on dates? Bumped into someone else entirely and startled himself out of snatching what could've been so easily his; for all that the had to suddenly apologize... clumsy

This kind of energy snatching was wholesome, even if Albite was making jokes about it. She could have just gone around draining random people until they were knocked out and then dumping them into alleyways afterwards. She knew that some people did it that way, if they got lazy, or desperate, but it always rubbed Sylvite the wrong way, because people could get cold if you left them outside like that, or hurt. Like, yeah, she'd drained a few sleazeballs 'cause they deserved it, but normally? Even with all the extra quota that had been put on her? She was here, taking her energy carefully, a little bit at a time from people who wouldn't even notice. That was a pretty long time ago, she thought at Albite as she glanced back to him again. I'm twenty-one now.He did not seem to be having nearly as much luck with the whole energy draining thing, and so she didn't try to explain anything else about her past, not right now. It could wait, if it was gonna be a distraction. Get an orb going, and then we can get some food, okay? she told him. She'd come in at the entrance near the food court, with the ice cream counter temptingly close. Sylvite made her way over there now, making a show of looking over the menu while she waited.

'Ohmygosh - Livi!! You're an adult!?!' cast across the mental link, loud and brimming with mirth, for all that he winced and faltered. Nodded along against the backlash of his own mistake and focused. Because normally he was good at this? Normally -- and it was something he could do -- had to do without touching, and that was the trick wasn't it? Like how his Firebrand had sat on a ledge above a window and yanked energy up and through space and time alike. He just had to -- to get an orb going -- Like Sylvite said. Shot her a sideways glance and nodded quietly while he did that. Pulled on power in little pieces from people that brushed by, that they walked past, small thing -- had to be - to big and it'd burst, because this wasn't like draining someone down to the dredges in an alleyway, wasn't like the raves either. Where everything was loud and chaos all around. Had to be far more careful here where people could notice things that seemed just a little bit strange. 'Orb - food - gotti - and Sylvite? Thank you.' knew he didn't have to say what for, if he could shove the feel of it over the rough space between them. Liked the way it felt, gratitude, how careful she was with everything. How much she cared. Livi was good people. He could tippy toe up and meet her standards because she deserved that much from him.

Sylvite couldn't help it. She giggled. Not just mentally, over their link thingy, but for real. Someone gave her a weird look for the outburst, and she made a point of snagging a little bit of their energy as she turned around to grin at Albite. I mean, I'm not a minor but I dunno if that means I count as a grown up, she thought at him with an eyebrow wiggle. She was quiet other than that while she watched him practice the technique that she'd perfected over the years. He was fumbling at first, which made sense because she knew this was different than the way a lot of people did things, and he was a fresh new Super on top of that, trying to figure out how to use his new magic on people who were squirming around instead of just sitting there, offering energy up. She saw when he snapped into focus, and when the little wisps of energy started trailing towards his fingers. She grinned when she saw that, and she was so excited for him, so proud that it felt like there were bubbles in her chest and she couldn't keep still, not with all that, so she bounced up on her toes and spun. Ahh, you're doing so good, she told him, and then vanished inside the door of the shop. You earned your break!Okay, maybe this wasn't the most efficient way to earn energy for her giant quota, but it was a good way to get to spend some time with a friend.
