He strode down the market streets, finally off for a bit, it had been a long time since he had taken a day off, he felt he deserved it. But most of all he could afford it. Gleefully he headed off to the local bookstore to see if there was anything good in, any new high seas adventure books, or books where they explored the jungle. That darn adventure with Nin had gotten the adventure loving blood in his veins to wake up, travel was addicting as it turned out.

He opened the bookstore door and it tinkled gently, announcing his arrival to the occupants which were few indeed. Lucky for him, no interruptions.

Her trials were coming up soon, and she had used a recent trip to Matori to settle her nerves, she studied best where she was happy after all. So off to the book store she went, there were decently experienced people here, maybe someone had written a book or two that would help her. She had enough skill but she was worried that those who had had more time to practice with their mounts would overshadow her own skills. What if someone managed to knock her off her mounts back? Poor Xarthin would feel so bad, he babied her, he was such a good boy.

She rushed into the bookstore on a mission.

A smallish fire girl rushed past him on a beeline for a shelf of books. It made him smile to see that. The young of the village could certainly take a leaf f out of her book. Now he had amused himself and he couldn't keep the smile off his face. Too often did he see young ones blunder on in life, doing everything the hard way, where at least some information could be gleaned from books. She was proof that perhaps a few had figured it out.
He browsed idly, the thoughts bringing his mood up a bit.

She swiftly pulled a book from the shelf and cracked it open. She sniffed suspiciously at the great tombs that dwelt there. She had never been short of books at home. But she had always loved this bookstore and she was certain that it held the answer she sought so desperately. Come on, come on, she breathed reverently flipping the delicate and beautiful pages.

She snapped the book shut. This wouldn't help

He found that she was obviously upset about something.
"Is there something you're looking for? I'm pretty familiar with most of the books here." Indeed. Some had been his once.

" I'm sure that whatever it is, it will all work out in the end."

There was a certain span of time when you sail that was conducive to reading and he fished quite a lot, which meant he did a lot of reading. He loved his job. He also liked to read at night before falling asleep.

"Oh, well, you see, I'm training to be a rider and my first big test is coming up and I'm determined not to fail."
She didn't want to disappoint her parents and meant to make a good showing of it.
"I'm bound to come up against my rival. He has humility humiliated me once already. And I wish not to go through similar treatment on the trials."
She held her head high then turned to reach for a suspiciously useful looking book.

He inclined his head respectfully. She certainly was clear about what she wanted.
"Well, I don't believe I've seen that in a book but I was well trained in many styles of combat before choosing a peaceful lifestyle. I did keep some of those books but nothing works as good as an in person teacher for combat. I can guarantee you an improvement. The rest is up to you. "

He was already a little bored anyway and training was fun, especially when you were the coach.

She bit her lip, she had been so sure that the answer to our dilemma would come from a book or potentially sicking Iexa and Lynx onto her opponent at an opportune moment. They would probably do it for her too, the rascals. But cheating wouldn't get her as far as the next punishing battle match. Her father could only teach her so much as a sword specialist.

"Okay. "

"I could tell you were smart. No, never waste a trip to the bookstore. Go find something while I finished shopping. After all, someone could sneak up behind you and snatch the perfect book away. That would be a tragedy. "

He was momentarily lured away by the beckoning spines of what appeared to be a new shipment of books peeking out here and there in the stacks. Books, books and more books, this was the best.

She smirked a little bit at the compliment. She happened to pride herself on her intelligence. She wasn't the most brilliant in her class, but those that were didn't seem to have that much fun with their parents breathing down their necks and no time or energy for anything but studying and training. At least she got to go to the market and stuff. She browse the books finding a likely battered old copy that looked like it would be a good read, she found two more for good measure. There now it at least felt like a stack.

He returned to the front desk with an arm load. He hoped that the girl had found something. It was heartbreaking to leave a store without a book. He watched transfixed as the shop owner checked the prices inside the book covers. The flip flip thump was soothing. He couldn't wait to hand over his coins and hold the books as his own. Books were the best. This shop had quite a variety for all that it was a small town

She drifted toward the front and checked out after him. She looked down at her books they wouldn't help her with her dilemma but it looked like a good story with a strong heroine for one, a sweeping but rugged love story for another and its sequel, she couldn't handle when girls were portrayed as weak and useless. She would rather read a book about boys at that point. Her two friends would make good characters in a book she thanked the clerk when her book was good to go.

She waited for him outside and out of the way he couldn't keep his curiosity to himself.
"What did you find?" He peered at the book she held curiously.

"I found one on astronomy as well as one about a seafaring pirate actually
it's a sequel already have the first one at home."

He smiled list out at the thought of so much good reading ahead.

Ooh he had gotten a fiction book too, maybe he wasn't as old and stuffy as she had thought. "It's a story about girls who gets transported to a strange place there's everything is different the technology the culture. All the main character has left is a smallish familiar from her world that sticks out like a sore thumb. Looks good to me."

She liked the ones that were super strange and out there and the ones that really made you think. A part of her wanted to write books.

Well, this has been rather better than expected. "Yes, that does sound good. Maybe after you are finished you would be willing to lend it to me for a few days. I'm a fast reader. after all." He hoped there would be some romance and he liked to live vicariously through characters. It resulted in many less awkward moments than trying in real life. He had thought he had gotten close at least twice.
