Quote: Wake up, Sheeple (3): A viral video: a security camera aimed at a door in a back alleyway. A dark-clothed figure looks like they are trying to break in. It’s almost comical in how desperately they are yanking on the door, and then, in a fit of rage, they take a step back and their hood falls off. The face is obscure and impossible to make out, and suddenly it looks like a lizard person. They attack the door once more and then scramble off with an over-exaggerated run. Is this it, real proof of an actual lizard person?? Is it a youma? The internet says it’s a hoax, and it’s hard to take it seriously anyway, even if there is something strange about it. It’s become something of a local joke; people have made memes about it and are dressing up as lizards and posing in similar alleys. And yet, there have been a string of attempted break-ins, with strange claw marks around the door handles. This mystery flu couldn't have come at a more convenient time. Technically, Lani wasn't sick at all, but rather, just faking it, but with her cousin Cinta having come down with the flu, it was easy enough to convince Rune that she, too, had caught the supposedly contagious bug. It was great, and awfully handy for getting to do whatever she wanted, which was, largely, laying around in bed all day doing nothing but napping and lounging about. No need to worry about homework- she could make Rune do it for her. No having to deal with being nagged to power up and do anything productive, either! All she had to do was tell Rune she was simply too tired, feeling too ill, to possibly do anything senshi-wise. To distract Rune from bothering her too much during this period of rest, Kalani had leant the fluffy kitten her phone for playing games on, though she really should have gotten around to getting her a cheap refurbished phone at this point, and made the Mauvian figure out how to pay for her own data plan. Of course, that would require Kalani to get a part-time job, which would require effort, and Lani was kind of allergic to effort! Made her break out in hives and all, except not really. This, she thought, was largely a fool-proof plan, because undoubtedly Rune would be spending countless hours grinding for gems to scout for her best girls, would be so distracted with 'perfect full combo'-ing all those songs, etc, that she wouldn't even think of coming into Kalani's room to bother her. That had... worked out at first, but then suddenly Rune came bursting into her room in an alarmed panic, saying something about lizard people and some video or something. Frankly, Lani didn't care, had no intentions of 'miraculously' getting well and doing any powering up, but... "Ugh, I thought we've been over this before not to believe everything you see online," Kalani groaned, feeling an odd sense of deja vu.

“Lani, don’t just dismiss it just because you think it’s fake, because I’m having a hard time believing it’s not totally fake this time!” Rune responded in a manner that probably sounded like whining to Lani. But honest to goodness, Rune did feel worried.. and alarmed… and disturbed… just all the above, really. “And hey! What made you think I’d fall for everything on the internet, anyway? I certainly don’t…” Rune pouted. In the back of her mind, she randomly recalled the time when she couldn’t tell who the actual idol was for a song she had long convinced herself was done by another… but that’s a story for another time. “Anyways, hear me out first before you make any further conclusions…”

"No thanks," Kalani said, already sure of where this was headed; hadn't she already informed Rune that she was too tired and ill to go out anywhere? Or had she forgotten all of that while playing her little tap-tap idol games? "I seem to recall a time a certain cat fell for a very obvious fake story a couple years ago about an escaped convict- this is just another one of those. I thought Mauvians were supposed to be like, technological prodigies or something; are you seriously telling me you've never heard of Photoshop, or even like... deepfakes?" Was Lani calling Rune out? She was definitely calling Rune out.

"H-hey... there's a first time for everything... but I'm not as gullible as I was beforeee.." Rune whined a bit, pouting. "I do know what Photoshop is and the possible dangers behind deepfakes, too! Besides, even if this video was full of hot air, I don't think sfx these days could be done so easily!" Rune's voice trailed while feeling unsure of why she felt like defending herself, but she certainly didn't appreciate being frowned upon like that. Foolish she may have been from time to time (and more times than she would like to remember), Lani's response seemed snarkier than usual. That aside... she couldn't take her eyes off the viral video and concluded that she might as well continue prodding and picking Lani's brain on what she thought about the matter. After all, it is a part of Rune's duty to ensure that Lani would be able to justify herself should such a situation arise. "Okayyy... setting aside the questionable video, what do you think about the string of attempted crimes complete with strange claw marks around the door handles? If not a lizard man, then who?"

"Someone looking for attention?" Kalani suggested, with a lazy shrug; Rune was the one who had been watching the videos, so why ask her? "Y'know, copycat crimes and all that. Probably someone who heard those rumors and decided to to use it to their advantage." Kalani was lazy, but she wasn't stupid- in fact, she tended to be more perceptive (and sensible) than she let on. Of course, for all of her easygoing nature, she had found that ever since Rune had moved in with her, her patience with the little cat tended to run thin... "Just some bozo clout chasing and stuff. Nothing to worry about- they'll get caught eventually." By someone else, hopefully; Kalani certainly wasn't going chasing after any so-called 'lizard people', real or not. "Anyway, don't you have like, some event to tier for or something?" That was a thing that happened in idol games, right? You grinded to get a png of your favorite girl if it was an event for her, and bragging rights if you made it to the podium, or something.

"I... I suppose so... that wouldn't be a very productive use of their time, but it's not my life I suppose..." Rune pouted slightly. Deep down, she was hoping that the mysterious and dubious lizard man video would net them an encounter and chance for experience and growth, but alas, nothing was going to convince Kalani. Moreover, it was clear from her stiff curt answers and shrugging that she was going to be set in her ways. That is indeed one of her more admirable qualities... sometimes. That aside... Kalani's perception is impressive! That or, she is indeed quite attentive after all! It's because... "Oh! You're absolutely correct! Thanks for the reminder!" Rune's eyes widened and uttered to herself, "I better not waste any more time and resume earning points... I don't want to miss my chance to rank again..." Rune hurriedly swiped away the mysterious video aside and drew back the rhythm game she was playing earlier. And just like that, the mere thought of engaging with the mysterious lizard man just went up in proverbial smoke. While Kalani idled her time away with who knows what, Rune spent the rest of her time tapping away on the cell phone. In the end, it was probably best that someone else took care of the problem, and even then, as Lani mentioned, it was probably no more than a hoax-inventing attention seeker. [FIN]
