Earth was fascinating.
So many people, so many languages, so many things to learn, and perhaps most importantly -- so many foods. Caedus had told him to keep the unhealthiness a secret, and Lysvi swore to do so. For Caedus, that was. For others? Well.
Lysvi had ventured into Destiny City and returned with an absolute pile of the most diverse and strange things he could find. Bread that they had purposefully fried and put sugar on. Little folded things they called pastries with sweet things inside. Meat, meat far beyond what was necessary, in piles that stacked up to the sky in-between two buns. Things they had called 'truffles', but were very clearly not mushrooms. A sugary dessert with a fruit they called bananas, mixed in with something that seemed to be melting into a soup. Was that an intentional function?
He slipped into their shared quarters.
"Yddagen!" Lysvi seemed too excited. This was probably a bad sign. "You gotta try this."

Yddagen was prepared to accept it as a bad sign and stared stonily at his twin when he brought the offerings over. "What is it?" He could smell it, and the smell was not itself unpleasant, but it was too strong, too overpowering. He wanted to take the item outside if he was going to have to suffer its presence for too much longer. "It reeks."

The smell was very strong, especially compared to their usual tastes in food. Very sugary. Very oily. Very salty. Very unhealthy. Assuredly, nothing their Commodore would have approved of.
"Food of the people of Earth. I understand that since their resources are abundant, they are not as concerned about food quality. This is fascinating to me. Yddagen, look at this one."
He shoved the oddly flat and bubbly piece of oily bread at him.
"This they call fried dough. It seems very apt."

Yddagen recoiled away from the 'fried dough'. "It's sitting in oil, Lysvi. Why would I eat this?" Reaching out and experimentally grasping the food--if it could be called that--didn't help. As the shudder slid down his spine and as Yddagen discreetly wiped the grease off of his finger on the table, he shook his head. "It's not... Lysvi, it's soft and crispy at the same time."
Fried dough? Was there something else? Something not fried?
"Do they have any good fruit dishes, maybe?"
He did not like the texture of this fried dough, and the smell was too strong.

"I know!" Somehow, the repulsive texture was simply more exciting to Lysvi, and his insistence at not eating it just meant that was more for him. Lysvi took the fried dough and took a rather unnecessarily large bite before digging back in their large selection of bags--
Ah!
"Yes, this has fruit. It has," Lysvi squinted, before practicing his English pronunciations without the ComTech's assistance, "bah-na-na." Perfect. They took out the banana split and passed it off to Yddagen.
It was somehow even more liquidy now than before, but it still smelled really good--

Yddagen stared at it dubiously, but took it nonetheless. It smelled much less strongly than the fried dough had. He not had a banana before, but it seemed tame enough of a food. He picked up the spoon lying against the side of the dish and swirled it experimentally in the liquid around the banana. "What's the rest of it?"

"I think they called it," Lysvi searched through his memory banks again, wanting to once again attempt the word without the ComTech. It hadn't quite translated exactly, anyway, considering there was not much of an equivalent on their planet--, "eyes creme."
No, that wasn't right.
"Icy creme." That seemed closer. He seemed very proud of himself.

What the-- "Do you mean 'ice cream'?" With a shake of the head, Yddagen absently patted Lysvi's shoulder. "Now that you got that out of your system, I guess I'll try it, no?" And so Ydggen did, indeed, lift the spoon to his mouth while trying not to drip the ice cream everywhere. When the ice cream actually hit his tongue, he paused. An odd look crossed his face.
"It's too sweet."

Lysvi drew back, appalled. Shocked. Correcting him! How dare he!
And then he had the gall to not even like it afterward--
"What do you mean, too sweet?" Lysvi let out a sound of dismay. "It tastes so much sweeter than so much than we have on Velencya!" That was probably precisely why it was too sweet, actually. "I've never tasted anything quite like it and I'd quite like more-- okay, fine, give it back."
He was already digging in his collection of bags for something else.

Ydaggen pushed the ice cream back to Lysvi without hesitation. "Do you have something that does not smell or taste very strongly? A porridge, maybe?" Humans ate porridge, right? He liked hot mashed food.

Porridge?
Hmm. He looked in his bags. Well, what he was originally thinking about grabbing wouldn't work. Hot mashed food didn't really match up with the thing they called a burrgher. It was hot, but it wasn't mashed.
Well, this was mashed. Sort of. But it wasn't hot.
It wasn't melted like the ice cream, though--
"Here!" he chirped, pushing a small, round package toward Yddagen. "I think you'll like this one."

Yddagen turned it over and over in his hands. "Rice pudding?" He frowned. "It's cold, Lysvi." But he was willing to entertain his twin anyway. He peeled back the top of the small container, looking for his spoon from before and dipping it in. The firmer texture was a welcome change, and Yddagen felt a bit better about it as he stuck a spoonful of it in his mouth.
He paused thoughtfully, studying the flavour of it in his mouth. He swallowed, went for another spoonful, swallowed that one, and went for another spoonful. This continued until it was gone, and Yddagen looked up at Lysvi.
"I would like another."

Lysvi's eyes lit up. He could tell after the first two bites that Yddagen liked it, and he could tell it most assuredly when the bites continued until that food was gone. While Yddagen enjoyed the new food, he happily dug into the half-melted ice cream and bananas. It was a little sweet, but the warming melted ice cream tempered that a bit, he thought-- Another? "I took two!" Thankfully. Lysvi dug around in the bag and held it out for Yddagen. "I planned to eat it, but it is yours. I will eat your," he knit his brows, "ice cream," that was the right pronunciation without ComTech this time-- "in exchange." Seiana_ZI It did the thing so here's your response in the right order

Amasis "You are welcome to the ice cream." Yddagen reached for the rice pudding. "This is also sweet, but the texture helps, I think."
