Calixa sat in the dirt with one leg folded close to her body and the other extended as she played with her wooden figures. Every so often she would lift her head and look over at her mother to confirm that she was still there. The little girl didn't expect her mother to disappear she just didn't want her to go out of her sight in case she was going to do something interesting. She didn't want to miss something.
As she played with the figures she paused to look one over. It was of one of the animals native to Belrea but for some reason she couldn't remember the name of it. So Calixa leaned her head back and to the side, adopting her curious look as she faced Mnyiri. "Umma, wha's tis 'gin?" Her words were shortened and half slurred, showing off her young age and slight inability at pronunciation. Along with her question she held up the carved wooden animal for her mother to see so she could answer the question.

Having a little one around again was an endless adventure for Mnyiri. As much as she enjoyed her research and the places it took her motherhood was what brought her the most fulfillment. Seeing the way that Zakia had taken after her love of the world made her excited to see just how much of it Calixa would absorb as well. Would she want to travel, to learn, or would she stay in Chiume and help to build it up? As much as Mnyiri wanted to know she also wanted her precious daughter to remain this small and cute forever! She'd been busy reading over her latest notes about the Geian's, peeping over at Calixa every few minutes or so, when her daughter called to her. Setting the journal down, Mnyiri came over to her. "That's a Loatoa."

She watched her mother get closer and smiled at the fact that she had her attention. Calixa loved having Mnyiri's attention. At the answer provided she looked at the wooden figure and tilted her head so that her antennae leaned to the side heavily. "Lo-ta. Loa-to. Loot-ow." Calixa tried to repeat the name several times in different ways before scrunching up her face. Moving her head back so she could look up at her mother again she seemed confused as to why her word didn't sound the same as when her mother said it. "Are Lota's nice?" She finally asked.

Mnyiri couldn't help reaching over to smooth back her daughter's dreads affectionately and placing a kiss upon her brow. "You're close, sweetling~" Instead of releasing contact, Mnyiri instead using her hand to nudge her daughter closer so the two of them could look at the figure together. "They are. If you're nice to them then you can make one your pet and they'll be just as playful as you are!" She leaned forward and tapped it's rump a few times, making it 'move' while still being in Calixa's hands. "They love to run and scurry into tiny little caves so that they can explore."

The kiss had Calixa beaming with a bright smile. She loved the affection. When she was pulled closer she leaned into the touch and giggled. Of course she paid attention as her mother explained about the creature and when she made it 'move' her giggled turned into pure laughter. "Want one!" She claimed loudly. Instantly she was thinking of how fun it would be to have one of the little creatures to run into little caves to find things to bring back up to her. Calixa could go into small spaces now but once she was big like her mother she wouldn't be able to so she'd need a partner to help out! Still wearing the large grin she looked at Mnyiri. "Pwea? Umma." The little girl employed her best rendition of puppy eyes to get her way.

Oh no. She should have seen this coming, but honestly, Mnyiri wasn't a forward thinker. Fountain of knowledge? Undoubtable! Critical thinker who was fast on her feet? Not...so much. More so when it came to her daughters. Zakia had been able to wrap her around the girl's little finger and Calixa had already mastered the game. "Maybe when you're older you can have one. They don't live here so finding one is really, really hard." At least she had the good graces not to mention the Belrean markets. There had to be a few for sale there, but Mnyiri didn't have much in the way of coin and she'd much rather spend it on things her daughter would actually need.

When she's older. Calixa thought about that. How much older would she have to be? Too much older and she'd be too big to go into small spaces. Of course when it was farther explained that the Loatoa didn't live around their area she thought about that even more. So if they didn't live there then it would be hard to find. Her little eyes narrowed as she thought about things. Her nose scrunching up in thought as well. Finally, after a few minutes of silence, she twisted her upper body to look at her mother. "Ask 'Kia!" Calixa knew her older sister traveled, she couldn't be with her for some reason or another that had been explained to her more than once. (She disliked the reason but knew of it non-the-less.) "Write to 'Kia!" She loved sending letters to her big sister. So she could write a letter to Zakia about the Loatoa and surely her sister would find one for her since she was traveling.

During those brief moments of silence Mnyiri feared for the worst. What if her daughter wanted it now regardless of distance or worse, what if another sister had one that she'd brought over from the main land? Mnyiri couldn't think of anyone that did but- Oh this...could actually work."We could ask Zakia." She lived in the southern ridges of Zena, near the border to Sauti, so it wasn't like she was out of range! "I bet if you write a really nice letter to her your big sister would love to bring you a loatoa when she visits." Besides, Zakia was so close to Talisia's animal sanctuary that they might already have one there! Perhaps a cute little thing that just needed the right owner to take care of it.

When her mother seemed to agree with her about the idea to write her sister she instantly lit up with a bright grin. "Yay!" Without really giving herself enough time to get off the ground she flung herself at Mnyiri. Little arms wrapped around the first little bit she could grab hold of. Leg, waist, arm, it didn't matter. Calixa latched on and squealed in delight with the permission (excuse) to write to her sister. If allowed to she'd send a letter everyday, not that they were readable just yet. "Write 'Kia an' ask for Loata!" She still managed to butcher the name of the beast for now but she'd work on it. "Now? Can we now?" It would be fun to sit down with her mother and write letters together. Calixa often times tried to copy what she saw Mnyiri write down. She thought of it as a game.

"Omph!" Mnyiri rocked back a little, but wrapped her arms around the little one all the same. Her energy was infectious! She might have been happier if Calixa hadn't wrapped her arms around her neck and was pulling on it at such an angle that Mnyiri's airway was getting pinched. "Sweetie....please..." Had her little bug always been this strong?! Mnyiri pried the little one off her neck and settled for having her latched onto her arm instead. "Okay okay, we'll write letters. Can you go get the paper? And pick out some wax, okay? Whatever color you want." One of the things that Mnyiri adored about Belrea was the PLETHORA of wax seals. She had an exuberant amount of colored wax and little shaped metals that could press pretty flowers, birds and symbols into it. She always used the same one for Zakia, however; a simple, sweet heart. Moving to stand, Mnyiri looked to where the quills and ink were...but first she had to wait for Calixa to let go.

"Yesh!" Her word slurred at the end as she untangled from her mother. Calixa was wide eyed and excited as she moved almost too fast to collect the paper. The little girl stumbled over her own feet as she made her way to get enough paper for her and her mother. When the colored wax was mentioned she had to pause and think about which color she wanted to use this time. Since she wanted to sweeten her sister up she settled for grabbing Zakia's favorite color. Bouncing back over to her mother she grinned widely up at her. "Got it! Got it!" Paper and wax was shoved upward for Mnyiri to see. "I got it Umma."

Once Mnyiri was free she stretched her long legs and gingerly picked herself up to gather supplies. Trying to find a quill wasn't difficult, she had dozens!, but finding an ink pot that actually had ink it was harder. Murmuring under her breath the hybrid looked around the room, looking into baskets and drawers until eventually finding what she wanted...at the top of a shelf in the kitchen. "How did you get up there?" That was...how in the....Never mind! No worries! Shrugging her shoulders, Mnyiri moved back into the sitting room and settled back into the sitting room, but this time at a writing desk with two seats. She thankfully had a hold on the ink before the other materials were shoved in her face. "Omph! Yep, you sure did, baby girl~" Mnyiri gave the empty seat a pat and set up a smaller quill for Calixa.

The pet name made Calixa grin even more, practically lighting up. She'd done good! It made her feel happy to have the praise, even for something small. When she saw her mother pat the empty seat she quickly moved to occupy it. She hopped up and wiggled her little butt so that she found the perfect position to sit in that was close enough to the edge but not too close for her to slip off of. From there she sat the paper and wax down and watched eagerly as her mother set up her own ink and quill. Her little eyes were wide as she continued to wiggle with excitement. "Thank you, Umma!" Manners were important to remember and she needed to let her mother know she was thankful for her help in setting things up.

"You're welcome." She really was raising such a kind hearted child, wasn't she? It made Mnyiri so proud every time and of course she was going to gush about it in her letter to Zakia. How could she not? Her eldest daughter wasn't here so she needed to be clued in! "What kind of sailscale are you going to ask her to look for? They can be so colorful; I'm sure she would be swamped without some sort of direction!" While Mnyiri was sure any sweet creature that would cuddle up to her daughter would work asking was always nice.

Color? Calixa took in a sharp breath as she thought about that. She hadn't thought of a color she wanted! Her eyes went to the wall in front of them to the desk before them to her mother as she seemed almost overwhelmed herself. There were so many to choose from! But the more she thought about it the more she realized what she wanted. So a smile lit up her face. "Want silver and black and blue! Umma's and 'Kia's pree colors!" Having something that represented her family with her all the time just seemed like a good idea. Silver for her mother's hair, black for her sister's hair, and then the blue for their markings. Calixa adored the color of their markings.
