Greetings ghoulies and ghosties~

This yearโ€™s Halloween dance brings not your usual frights, but nightmares from the bottom of the sea. Instead of cobwebs, the Great Hall has been strangled in tentacles; instead of jack-o-lanterns lighting the way, angler fish lights lure you to your next fright. Ghost fish float along the walls, congregating around the feast that is the carcass of a whale.

Veiled and masked in theme with the living creatures of the deep, any maritime, aquatic, or generally spooky character gowns and suits are welcomed aboard the wreckage of the HMS Hogwarts.

On Halloween 2054 evening, students, faculty, and their guests are welcome to the Deep Sea Horrors Masquerade. (IRL October 20th to November 7th, 2021)
As a special treat, alumni and squib guests are welcomed to attend the masquerade. Please do consider making a donation though!

Happy Haunting.

-------------------------

Entrance Courtyard
On the lake, a ghostly ship can be seen, sinking into the lake as an the Giant Squid attacks the illusion. From here though, visitors are safe. The Entrance Courtyard is decorated with translucent coral-structures. Thestral-drawn carriages will drop off outsider guests for a second security check (the first being at the Gates). Itโ€™s a perfect place to meet any guests, grab a mask, or get some wardrobe help.

A Help Bubble station is staffed by prefects throughout the event.
Brightly lit by a friendly coral-shaped light, students can pick up masks here or get their glasses transfigured by an upperclassman (guaranteed to not change the lenses, just add some fancy matching flair for the evening.)

There is also a Charity Clam to collect donations.
Non-student attendees are recommended to make a donation! 50% of proceeds will go towards magical environmental conservation efforts to clean up the ocean. Other funds will go towards Hogwarts School supplies, including support for muggleborn students, better Quidditch equipment, and updated muggle studies textbooks.

Special thanks to generous donors who have offered to match and raise all donations by 150%:
The Whitethorne Family
Winchester Foundation
The Delacroix Family

-------------------------

The Great Hall
Giant paper-mache tentacles cloak the ceiling and walls of the Great Hall. Between colorful thermal vent-lights and ghostly jellyfish though, the Great Hall is actually quite well lit in most places to help show off everyoneโ€™s spooky formalwear. The floor has been enchanted to reflect gently-disturbed water.

-------------------------

Buffet Table
A buffet table alongside one wall is decorated to look like the carcass of a dead whale. Swarming with ghostly creatures, this is where peckish students can come to get food--or become food. Remember, thereโ€™s always a bigger fish.

-------------------------

Lake Ride
Boats surrounded by giant air bubbles dive into the Black Lake, where helpful merpeople from the Black Lake Colony have prepared a winding underwater exhibit that showcases life underwater-- both the terror and the beauty. Friendly merpeople float around, serenading the experience with their ethereal song and, if need be, escorting a boat back to shore.

And just in case you thought that it was all fun and educational encounters with the mer kind, on your way back to the surface be treated to the startling screech of a mermaid above water.

(If you know British Sign Language, Asra the Merman can sign back! Otherwise, a helpful roll of parchment has common phrases in Mermish. Please use the โ€œAudiendumโ€ spell for pronunciation samples.)

-------------------------

Dungeon Maze
A few rooms near the Dungeon Staircase have been turned into a winding reef maze. Will some deep sea horrors await behind the next turn? Or a delightful dessert? Try not to lose your way and make it back to the shallows.

If you do get lost, send up red sparks and a prefect or instructor will come find you.

-------------------------

The Gardens
Enjoy the smells of night-blooming plants in a quiet cove ringed off near the Hogwarts Gardens. Small lights float around, making the perfect place for light conversation. Be wary though, as some of those lights might be connected to the jaws of an angler fish illusion.

Welcome one and all! August 2056 features the Wizarding Arts Festival, a 3 day celebration of the variety of arts businesses in the UK wizarding world.

For those unfamiliar with magic in the arts, we recommend Professor Natianna Hawthorneโ€™s keynote lecture on Friday morning, perhaps followed by one of Synister Studioโ€™s workshops. Diagon Alley will be brimming with pop up stalls nestled between the regular shops with special events, converted into an Artistโ€™s Alley. The Leaky Tavern will have an Open Mic Stage available all weekend for patrons inspired to try their own hand at performance. On the Gringotts Main Stage, The Hobgoblin Theatre is proud to present a lively, musical rendition of The Fountain of Fair Fortune. Finally, Mythical Missile Fireworks, with music by Covert Generation, will conclude the Festival with a spectacular Fireworks Finale.

All are welcomeโ€”artists and art appreciators of wizarding or squib origin or muggles related to wizarding folk, and magical creatures.

This guild event takes place canonically during the second to last weekend of August 2056, but will happen over May 16-31st, 2022 IRL. We encourage your children and adult/ graduated characters to participate!

Special Events for Diagon Alley shops.
The Arts Festival takes place over Friday - Sunday long weekend in Diagon Alley -- the perfect time for a special event or a flash sale for the usual vendors of Diagon Alley.

๐’†œList of special events by Diagon Alley shops ๐’†œ
Synister Studios - painting workshops

If a shop does not have a special event, they can be assumed to be open for business as usual, according to their usual operating hours.

If you are a shopkeeper in Diagon and would like to host a special event or sale during the Arts Festival, please make a post with the shout post format that includes:

  • What is the special event? (e.g. Is it a general sale on all products? Does 50% do to some arts related charity? Are you hosting special workshops? What does the workshop include? Be creative and describe what the plan is!)
  • Please quote a crew member to change your thread to "Shop name :: Open for ART FESTIVAL event" and to add your first post to the list above. Even if you are a crew member, please do this so someone else has seen it and approved!

-------------------------

Gringotts Main Stage
Gringotts Wizarding Bank is proud to sponsor the primary stage of the festival. Positioned against the backdrop of the giant marble building, the stage is draped with shimmering curtains that project the action onstage for the street to see. A few rows of benches have been arranged around the stage with plenty of room for festival goers to pass or stop and watch. For a discreet donation, patrons can also purchase box-seatingโ€”converted balcony space around the area. When not in use for a feature, the stage is conveniently vanished.

-------------------------

Leaky Cauldron Open Mic Stage
The Leaky Cauldronโ€™s backyard space has been magically modified for the festival. Inside, across from the bar, is a small stage with a sonorous charm cast over it. Musicians, comedians, and anyone who does not have a main-stage feature are welcome to perform here for exposure and applause.

With the Leaky Cauldron menu just an order away and easy access to the cafes and shops of everyday Diagon Alley, this area the best place to rest between attractions and enjoy a conversation. Additionally, outdoor seating has been decorated with ribbons and streamers advertising various shops and festival attractions found further on.

((The mic is open. If posting from the stage, please use the shout post format. There is no emcee, so please introduce yourself. Rowdy/ drunken acts are liable to being kicked out.))

-------------------------

Artist Alley
For the weekend of the festival, Diagon Alley is populated by stalls and tables displaying the crafts and wares of various artists in the magical wizarding world. Speckled between shops doing special events for the festival, individual artists and hobbyists can set up a table to get their name out there, accept commissions, or sell a few pieces.

๐’†œ List of vendors: ๐’†œ
Bardsdale Design โ€” jewelry
Hidden Treasures โ€“ jewelry

Anyone is welcome to set up a stall or table, but this is intended specifically for people who do not have a shop in Diagon Alley already, like individual artists, hobbyists, or professionals outside of Diagon; if you already have a Diagon Alley shop, please see Special Events for Diagon Alley shops for instructions.

Please use the shout post type for the first post only and include the following somewhere in the post:

  • professional status (are you an amateur looking to break into professional scene? an unaffiliated professional that works by commission? a professional not usually in Diagon Alley? a hobbyist just looking to share their work?)
  • Short description of the type of work (e.g. color-changing watercolors, animated paper craft, painted instruments, modern art with a magical twist) or optionally, include a list of sample pieces (describe or link).
  • A rough price range (are we talking knuts? sickles? galleons? blood? the soul of your firstborn child?)
  • Please quote a crew member to approve and put your stall/ table on the list of vendors.
