Greetings ghoulies and ghosties~
This yearโs Halloween dance brings not your usual frights, but nightmares from the bottom of the sea. Instead of cobwebs, the Great Hall has been strangled in tentacles; instead of jack-o-lanterns lighting the way, angler fish lights lure you to your next fright. Ghost fish float along the walls, congregating around the feast that is the carcass of a whale.
Veiled and masked in theme with the living creatures of the deep, any maritime, aquatic, or generally spooky character gowns and suits are welcomed aboard the wreckage of the HMS Hogwarts.
On Halloween 2054 evening, students, faculty, and their guests are welcome to the Deep Sea Horrors Masquerade. (IRL October 20th to November 7th, 2021)
As a special treat, alumni and squib guests are welcomed to attend the masquerade. Please do consider making a donation though!
Happy Haunting.

Entrance CourtyardOn the lake, a ghostly ship can be seen, sinking into the lake as an the Giant Squid attacks the illusion. From here though, visitors are safe. The Entrance Courtyard is decorated with translucent coral-structures. Thestral-drawn carriages will drop off outsider guests for a second security check (the first being at the Gates). Itโs a perfect place to meet any guests, grab a mask, or get some wardrobe help. A
Help Bubble station is staffed by prefects throughout the event.
Brightly lit by a friendly coral-shaped light, students can pick up masks here or get their glasses transfigured by an upperclassman (guaranteed to not change the lenses, just add some fancy matching flair for the evening.)
There is also a
Charity Clam to collect donations.
Non-student attendees are recommended to make a donation! 50% of proceeds will go towards magical environmental conservation efforts to clean up the ocean. Other funds will go towards Hogwarts School supplies, including support for muggleborn students, better Quidditch equipment, and updated muggle studies textbooks.
Special thanks to generous donors who have offered to match and raise all donations by 150%:

The Great Hall
Giant paper-mache tentacles cloak the ceiling and walls of the Great Hall. Between colorful thermal vent-lights and ghostly jellyfish though, the Great Hall is actually quite well lit in most places to help show off everyoneโs spooky formalwear. The floor has been enchanted to reflect gently-disturbed water.
-------------------------
Buffet Table
A buffet table alongside one wall is decorated to look like the carcass of a dead whale. Swarming with ghostly creatures, this is where peckish students can come to get food--or become food. Remember, thereโs always a bigger fish.

Lake Ride
Boats surrounded by giant air bubbles dive into the Black Lake, where helpful merpeople from the Black Lake Colony have prepared a winding underwater exhibit that showcases life underwater-- both the terror and the beauty. Friendly merpeople float around, serenading the experience with their ethereal song and, if need be, escorting a boat back to shore.
And just in case you thought that it was all fun and educational encounters with the mer kind, on your way back to the surface be treated to the startling screech of a mermaid above water.
(If you know British Sign Language, Asra the Merman can sign back! Otherwise, a helpful roll of parchment has common phrases in Mermish. Please use the โAudiendumโ spell for pronunciation samples.)

Dungeon Maze
A few rooms near the Dungeon Staircase have been turned into a winding reef maze. Will some deep sea horrors await behind the next turn? Or a delightful dessert? Try not to lose your way and make it back to the shallows.
If you do get lost, send up red sparks and a prefect or instructor will come find you.

The Gardens
Enjoy the smells of night-blooming plants in a quiet cove ringed off near the Hogwarts Gardens. Small lights float around, making the perfect place for light conversation. Be wary though, as some of those lights might be connected to the jaws of an angler fish illusion.
