Naevius entered Hanaeko’s room quietly. The young girl was probably still sleeping but Nae had plans for them today. It wasn’t very often that she had a completely clear day but today was one of them so the woman had decided to spend it with her daughter. Sometimes she felt terrible that she couldn’t be around as much as she wanted to, especially since she knew Hana wouldn’t have someone like Varinia to look out for her like Nicias had when he was younger. It made it worse knowing that Hanaeko was very much a sociable person unlike her brother at this age, or any age for that fact. She found herself comparing her older son and young daughter. As far as personalities go, they couldn’t be more different. It was true that Hanaeko was still young and she had a lot of learning to do but fundamentally they were different. And that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing though Nae did feel like she would need to keep an eye on her daughter and make sure she still learned right from wrong in a place where they were too easily skewed. With a sigh, she put away her internal rambling and sat on the edge of Hana’s bed. Softly, she stroked the young girls dreads away from her face. ”Hanaeko honey, time to wake up.”

Hanaeko felt a hand smooth her hair away from her face before she heard her mother’s voice. She squeezed her eyes closed and groaned before trying to roll over the other way which caused her mother to laugh. ”I don’t wanna…” She pouted as she tried to get comfy again to go back to sleep. Yet her mother was persistent and so with a huff she pushed herself up to a sitting position and rubbed her eyes before blinking slowly. ”Is something wrong, Mama?” It wasn’t often that her mother woke her up so did that mean that something was wrong?

It hurt Naevius just the slightest but that Hanaeko's first thought of her Momma waking her up was that something must be wrong, yet she managed to hide it. She hated that she didn't get as much time with her daughter as she wanted but she spent every free moment she could with her. "No, Hana, I have no meetings for the day and thought we might go into town together. Does that sound like a good idea?" The guards probably wouldn't like it but oh well. Nae thought both her and Hanaeko could use some time away from all of the hub-bub of the palace.

Her mother smoothing the hair out of her face tempted her back to sleep but then the promise of a day together had her sitting up straight. "Really?!" She asked excitedly. "This isn't going to be like the Jatine trip...is it?" The young girls expression showed just how much it had hurt to have her mom back out of their trip at last minute. "I had fun with Miss Reina and all but….I want to spend time with you…" She put on her best 'pretty please' face, eyes batting and all.

"Okay okay mercy. You'd think I'd be used to that face by now! It's probably because your brother rarely did it that I'm not immune yet." Nae said as she tickled the little girl who knew how to wrap everyone around her little finger. "I promise, if anybody comes up with something last minute they'll just have to wait until tomorrow."" She smiled as she stood and busied about grabbing some clothes for Hana to wear.

Hana bounced in bed as her mom promised that they'd spend the day together. It would be great! As her mother left the bedside to get her some clothes, Hana jumped out of bed in her nightgown and skipped after her. Upon inspecting what her mother was picking out for her to wear, she frowned. "But Mama….I'm pretty sure that teal color is sooo not in fashion anymore." She said, sounding as if she were a teenager already. "I'm pretty sure that dusty rose color is what's in right now." If Hana was going to go out then she needed to look her best of course!!

Where he daughter picked up information like that she’d never know. Naevius was never the typical ‘princess’. She had never minded their lives at the taming compound and it had taken far more time to adjust to life at the palace than anything else. But, her children didn’t know much of that life. Nicias had seen a little bit since she had still been transferring most of the daily operations over to others and perhaps that's where his own love of beasts came from. But fashion was never something she concerned herself with. If they had some kind of appearance one of the staff alway slaid something out for her otherwise she’d be just fine going in her pants. ”Ookay.” She started putting back the clothes she’d gathered. ”Would you like to pick out your own outfit?” Nae asked her daughter.

She nodded somewhat sassily at her Momma before walking over to her wardrobe and started pulling out a few pieces of clothing. A short sleeve knee length dress with some tights and some slide on flats. She laid everything on her bed and eyed it for a few moments, her finger tapping her lips before her eyes lit up and she went over to the small box on her bedside table and pulled out a simple necklace and nodded appreciatively. ”Will you do my hair Momma? The way you normally do it?” Hana asked as she moved and sat down on her little stool in front of her bed.

Naevius watched fondly as her daughter wandered around her room and easily picked out what she wanted as if she were the only female who knew exactly what she wanted to wear and wasn’t going to change her mind. It was a cute outfit, that was for sure. Even at her young age Hanaeko seemed to have a sense for fashion and ‘the finer things in life’ so to say. Naevius couldn’t deny that Hana had somewhat been raised with a silver spoon in her mouth, being the only little girl in the palace for a while now and the apple of her Daddy and Poppa’s eyes. ”Sure baby.” She conceded and sat on the bed behind her. Slowly she took the dreads and wove them into a long braid. ”Okay, go ahead and get dressed and I’ll go make sure we’re ready to go.” Nae kissed her daughter’s forehead before leaving the room and making sure the carriage was ready for them.

As her mother left, Hana surveyed her mother’s work in the mirror. She added a few clips here and there onto her dreads but didn’t overdo it. Eventually she would learn how to do her own hair, perhaps when she was bigger and could do more things at one time. Hana dressed quickly, making sure to not mess up her hair and put on her simple jeweled necklace. Lastly she slipped on her flats and skipped out of her room and down to the entryway where she saw her Momma waiting with a carriage being pulled by some Quhar. Sometimes she and Daddy would jump on his Janarim together to run errands but Hana wasn’t so much a fan of that, she often had to wear practical clothing and didn’t always look the best. So while the going would be slow, Hana was still excited. ”Let's go!” She said happily as she climbed up into the carriage and sat down, her feet swinging excitedly.

The trip down to the markets from the palace wasn't too long but for Hana she knew it felt like forever. Naevius felt like time must move faster for kids yet she didn't feel like that was the case when she was younger. While she was by no means old, she had quite a few birthdays under her belt. It must be all the energy kids had...she thought to herself. "Okay Hana, where are we going first?"

Hana eagerly took her mothers hand and started pulling her through the market stalls. "To the seamstress of course! I have so many ideas for new outfits I want to get. Oh maybe we should go pick out some special fabric first!" There were so many things she wanted to go and do with her Mom, especially with them being out of the palace. But how would they fit it all in today! "And maybe…" She started asking, her voice a little softer and more shy than was usual for the little girl. Hana looked to her Mom before continuing.

The woman laughed softly as the child practically drug her mother behind her on her own mission. As soon as her daughter revealed her plan, Naevius understood her urgency. Her daughter loved all things fashion, as she was shown earlier. But then she got quieter, and she looked shy and hesitant. "Yes, Hanaeko? What is it? She wasn't sure why her daughter would seem nervous or shy or about anything yet Naevius couldn't think of any reason why she would suddenly be like that. She raised her eyebrows in concern at her youngest child.

"Do you think we could get something as thank you for Miss Reina?" Hana loved getting gifts so surely Reina did as well. It was just a matter of what to get her. Miss Reina didn't wear many fancy clothes so she didn't think she should get those for her if they wouldn't be appreciated. "I just don't know what she would like…" Hanaeko thought about what she knew of their family friend.

Naevius might have laughed if she hadn't known that it would irritate her daughter. Who would've known that she would worry so much about a gift. "Well, what do you know about Reina? You could also ask Nicias, they've been friends for a long time." it meant they would have to come back to the market if she wanted to do that but she would if they needed to. "If you really want her to like it, I would suggest to give her something with meaning behind it. Regardless of what it is, if there is a meaningful reason why you got it for her I know she'll love it." Nae smiled at her daughter’s thoughtful expression.
