A venture like this, in most cases, would have better been left for much later at night than nine-thirty, edging towards ten. That it was an area that wasn't highly trafficked during the evening hours was certainly a bonus. That their group was small, dressed primarily in dark colors that made them mostly inconspicuous was an additional bonus. It would make it easier for them to move around in -- at least up until one of the crystals started to glow, in the event any did.
The docks themselves weren't massive, certainly not compared to actual port towns. They were mostly a continuation of the old warehouse district; a place where fresh produce and fish could be brought in from up river and transported to any number of fresh markets and a way for building materials to be brought in from other places and stored until they were needed. In some cases things were offloaded to be taken to the nearby rail yard, but mostly it was devoid of everything but the occasional pass of security.
All in all, it would make a fine place to begin a search and the team was likely to find themselves uninterrupted as they put their new equipment to the test.

Alright, so they were hunting a cat, on the -docks- after dark. Well, it did rather lend to the idea that it was a smart cat, because if it was going to get anyone to give it extra ‘catch of the day’ or if it wanted to hide among the other curious actual cats, this was a pretty brilliant place to do that. It wasn’t huge, so the cat-thing, if it were here, probably would know the area well. The casual patrols also made their chance of being caught searching for it lower, or so he hoped. He set the bag down and inspected the contents with more attention than he’d been able to spend before and …blinked. “Right…” he said softly and pulled the things out, clutching both nets in one hand, tucking the credentials into his pocket, and holding the toys, and tuna with…crackers up in the other. “Since we’re short on time, and low on personal interactions, are any of you more comfortable than others with nets? Throwing tools… er…toys. Is anyone especially good with animals? We should sort out rolls and start preparing to search. For wider areas we can work side by side, closer areas we might need to shift that, however.”

"Okay, so next time I am definitely bringing a change of shoes." She muttered, following after the team leader she'd been assigned to. He'd received commendations for his questions from one of the big wigs so he knew the right things to say. He was intelligent, but had he ever lead a team before? Likely not, but neither have you. Be nice. "Chasing after a cat with a net while wearing heels sounds like its own personal brand of awful. I'll take the cat toys if no one has any objections to that." She glanced around idly, wondering where they were even really going to start looking for this creature. And since when did aliens disguise themselves as cats anyways? It was going to make her start considering some things a little more closely... "I'm Tourmaline, by the way. I'm assuming that you're Azurite because they said you were the captain, but since none of us have name tags... Nice to meet you!"

“Ah, yes… good deduction.” He said and fumbled for a moment before tossing her the cat toys. “I’ll try and coordinate with you all to keep you out of the most, treacherous heel situations. “ He added with a glance at her footwear. “… I suppose, how they are hiding makes some sense with the old ‘cats worshiped as gods’ thing. But …you’d think they’d have mentioned it had a star on its forehead in some myth.” He scowled over the thought before continuing. “Alright, Nets, tuna… who else would like what? If …you don’t want to pick I can assign as well.”

"Morganite here," the tall white-maned man drawled, raising a hand. "I'm willing to try my hand with one of the nets -- pretty sure I know how to use them." Morganite looked around at the rest of the team with a grin. "Nice to be working with y'all. Let's see if I got this right... You're Azurite," he said as he pointed toward the team lead, "and the boss for tonight. And you're Tourmaline," he grinned, almost squealing over the fact she had pink piping on her uniform too. Twinsies! The other he didn't know, but he nodded and smiled at him just the same. "I guess we'll all get to know each other during this operation, won't we?"

"Teamwork makes the dream work, Morganite, my friend." Tourmaline was grinning from ear to ear as she made a gesture at his uniform before giving him a thumbs up with the hand that wasn't holding a satchel full of cat toys. "Good to know the guys at the top thought you needed a good fashion sense as well. Pink is totally where it's at. Our friend Azurite here hasn't quite picked up on that yet... Maybe if he spends enough time around the two of us we can bring him over?" She was more interested in the social side of things at the moment then on actually wandering the docks, proved by the fact that her crystal hadn't left the place in her belt that she'd tucked it into yet. "I'm in Intel. I talk too much and I know things. Haven't been at this for too long, myself, but joining in right as things start to get interesting sounds fun. How's it feel to be one of the Men in Black? Or... Varying shades of Grey, as it seems?" tatterpixie On Wednesdays Mission Days we wear pink!

Morganite grinned right back at Tourmaline. "Pink is where it's at," he replied, tossing his artfully rumpled white hair over his shoulder. "It's absolutely the best color. Though I gotta say, Azurite kinda got it going on in blue..." Eyeing the team leader, he mused what he'd look like in pink. Probably pretty great. He removed his crystal from its place on his belt as he spoke, the salmon-pink gem thrumming gently in his palm. "Hey, I'm in Intel too! AND I talk a lot and know things! I swear, the Bosses totally knew where to assign us, right?" Morganite was practically squealing at this point. He was making friends here! "I'm really new at this, like as of tonight new, and I gotta say, being a Man in Dark Grey is pretty fabulous so far. I mean, I suspect it's going to get un-fabulous at times, but I feel like in general it's going to be fun, you know?" “Oh… my god,” Azurite said very softly, listening to the two pink-trimmed, well… overly enthusiastic persons he was currently assigned to work with. He handed over the net to Morganite with a small shake of his head and a soft sigh. Maybe if they got this out of their systems, they could focus on the task at hand? Maybe?? “I can safely promise I have no intention to add pink to my uniform at any time in the foreseeable future.” He said as he pulled out his shard to try and scan the area. “But I am glad you are feeling… fabulous. Let’s… hope that this mission goes just as, fabulously.” He managed awkwardly. How the devil did people give proper pep talks at a moment's notice.

"You're missing out," her response to Azurite's dismissal of adding pink to his uniform was quick, waggling a finger at him while heavily resisting the urge to tsk as if she knew better. Instead she jumped back to complimenting her new best friend, Morganite. "Might I just say that you wear it well? Very fashionable." Nodding in a very knowing fashion, she was grinning still as Azurite handed the net over. "I suppose if we're going to be the best we should get to work." Sighing, very dramatically, she shifted the satchel of cat toys in her hand, ignoring the jingle jangle in favor of plucking her divining shard from her belt. She focused just enough of her energy into it to get it to glow briefly before slowly rotating in place as though holding an emf detector and looking for ghosts. "So... Do you think we should check the crane or the office first. Where would you hide if you were trying to get away from us, Azurite?" tatterpixie We're going for drinks to celebrate the new job after this, right? endejester Or maybe a great team success? “Trust me, that is a question I have started pondering quite seriously.” He quipped, frowning down at his own crystal as his focus. “I am, hoping that we can get a general direction to try and narrow this down. If the creatures don’t know that we have this sort of resource available to us, they shouldn’t be able to hide, right?” He rambled his thoughts aloud. “Which should then mean if we can get a read, that it narrows our initial search perimeters tremendously, which, is … um, yes.” He stuttered to a stop because he was just statiting the obvious. "Why thank you, honey," Morganite preened at Tourmaline as he accepted the net from Azurite. "Pink just isn't the color for everyone, I suppose." He almost winked at the man in blue, thinking better of it at the last minute. Wouldn't do to flirt with the team leader, would it? With a sigh, he turned back to his new bestie. "You're right, though. If we're going to be the best at this we'd better get to it." Concentrating on his crystal, he managed to get it to glow, then looked around. "If it was me, I'd probably hide in the office. But that's just me," he said as he glanced over at Azurite. "That's a good thought, boss -- if they don't know we have these available, that puts us at an advantage, right?" Skye Starrfyre we are TOTALLY going for drinks after this! endejester /winks cheekily at Azurite

So far he'd remained silent, simply observing, it wasn't to say he wasn't a social sort of person...he needed to talk to people at work and events. he just wasn't this social...those two in pink were far more social than he had the energy for. Rolling his eyes he sighedn ."I'll go with the other net, I'm not into fishy smells tonight." And knowing his luck he'd wind up wearing the tuna somehow...and then he'd smell like a fish - no thanks.
"I would think the crane but that's me. More parts and more ways for a cat to hide and make it difficult to catch, at least I'd assume." Shrugging his shoulders as he spoke. He sounded almost bored, though he wasn't, he just semed to have a rather casual manner about himself. "An office is rather simple...a desk, papers, chair and filing cabinet I'd assume. Not many places to hide."
Pulling out the crystal he'd been given earlier ht pushed just enough of his own energy into it, watching it glow softly in responce.

Tourmaline's crystal lit up and remained lit first, followed by Azurite's a moment later. Although Morganite's didn't respond immediately, Benitoite's lit up the moment he put enough focus into his crystal to charge it. What the three with glowing crystals all had in common was that they were all facing the old office. Something in that direction seemed to be giving off an energy signature... OOC: Three crystals have confirmed an energy signature in the area and it seems to be relatively clear as to where it is leading. Your team has a choice. Do you investigate the office?
Do you keep searching the area? Discuss it amongst yourselves and when you've agreed on a decision please quote Brilliant Moonbeams for your next prompt!

“Well, as long as you’re not too bored with our very important mission.” Azurite said with a tension that even with the animated conversation of the other two participants, hadn’t been there before. “I think you’ll do just fine, with the packet of Tuna.” He handed that over firmly and held the other net for himself with rather narrowed eyes. “Since, as we are at the docks, you’ll be smelling quite a lot of fish regardless.” “I’ll also point out, it’s only taken the appearance of a cat. It certainly didn’t sound like something as simple - as a cat.” He looked down pointedly at his own crystal, which like Benitonite’s was pointing towards the office. “I suspect this will take teamwork, and I’d like to check the office. Something at least has given us a reading. If you have a differing opinion, offer it now… I’d be willing to consider splitting the team with a reasonable argument.”
