A venture like this, in most cases, would have better been left for much later at night than nine-thirty, edging towards ten. That it was an area that wasn't highly trafficked during the evening hours was certainly a bonus -- aside from the restaurant, but no one really spent any time lingering in the alley or wandering the old rail cars on the tracks. That their group was small, dressed primarily in dark colors that made them mostly inconspicuous was an additional bonus. It would make it easier for them to move around in -- at least up until one of the crystals started to glow, in the event any did.
The Station itself was a relatively high-end restaurant -- not snooty, but busy enough to require reservations during special times of year. While it remained open to 11pm on Friday and Saturday with the last table seated by 10pm and the novelty shop shutting down by 10:45, it closed at 9pm on weekdays unless special reservations were made ahead of time. Staff trickled out to their cars and might continue to do so over the course of the next hour as they finished clean up and cashing out... But the rails themselves were quiet.
The cars parked on the rails had been still for some time, the steam lines seeing little traffic at all now that the electric rail across town had taken its place. Most of the cars now served little purpose save for atmosphere, with consideration being put into turning some into museum pieces, or possibly even a unique Air B&B experience.
There were a dozen places that something could be hiding, and it was now this teams job to utilize their new equipment to search all of them. Happy hunting!

Over the course of her lifetime, Stibnite had gained a great deal of experience in hunting creatures of all shapes and sizes. From rats, birds, and squirrels to items much, much larger in size. When they had been instructed that they were going after a creature, her mind had nearly changed gears. Like a switch being thrown she had gone from protection duty into active pursuit. Then the bombshell dropped and she had to hold back. Not only were they hunting a cat of all things but they needed to bring it in alive? That changed her method of thinking once more. Now she was running a small team basically tailing a creature she knew could hide in tiny spaces. In a railyard. It was going to be an interesting evening. Finding a secluded spot in the railyard wasn't hard. It was decently easy to keep away from the dinners and staff while still keeping them in sight should one get curious or bored. Slumping off the bag they had been given, she dropped down to open it and remove the contents. Two nets. One Stachel of Cat Toys. One Satchel of...well someone knew very little about cats but alright. Goldfish it was. Seeing the Animal Control Credentials, she pocked those herself before looking up at the other three with her. "I know we have all now been thrown together without much of an introduction. I am Stibnite." She offered, rising back to standing to meet each of their eyes. "I hope we can work together and provide some satisfactory results. However, do not do anything that will put yourself or others in danger. None of us want this to become a rescue mission on top of anything else." Her calm voice and eyes hardened ever so slightly as if she was passing a warning to them. She was Security and making sure everyone was home alive and well was a job she took very seriously. "Since there are four items and four of us, you three are welcome to pick what you are most comfortable with first. After that, we will see about tackling this place."

“Hmm… well, I am fairly tall, and my assigned weapon is a staff, I will offer to take on one of the nets? It would give us extra reach?” Gabriel offered, sweeping his hair back to make sure that it was held at least somewhat securely for them to be stalking around the Rail-yard in search of this, alien entity posing as a cat.

Nitratine was entirely less than happy to be be wandering around the railyard. The Station would have been fine, it was nice and clean and mostly upscale, The Railyard was ... a railyard. There were things to trip on and dirt and dust and this whole thing seemed like an awful idea. Even if they were chasing something important. Trying not to sneer they paused by the others, looking over the bag of goodies that had been handed out to everyone. The net was out of the question so they weren't even going to argue that point. The food also seemed like a bad idea since Nitratine didn't want to take any risk that the cat was going to try to touch them. " Cat toys .... I'll take those." That was the safest option, it at least included a dangly thing on a stick so keeping a distance wouldn't be too hard.

Painite grinned ear to ear, putting her hands on her hips and watching the others as they picked their 'tools'. Cat hunting, eh? The only option for her was all too obvious: there was only one way to set a trap, and that was with bait. And she was most certainly no coward when it came to throwing herself feet first into the deep end of things. "I'll take the food, yeah?" she chuckled, waving her hand nonchalantly. "If we can draw it out with some nice smells and fun, squeaky noises, those net's'll do their job." She thought it seemed easy enough, though she had a sneaky suspicion there was more at play here. It was also a game of patience and thorough searching, and though she was no stranger to similar tail chasing while hunting down a story, this somehow seemed a lot more... tedious.

Picking up the last of the nets, Stibnite took a good, hard look at each of the three standing there with her. Nitratine at a look on their face that told Stibnite they were less than pleased to be out there. Painite Was oddly getting into the stride of things as she grabbed the bag of food. Zinkernitethough seemed as chill as ever. So two potential problem children. That made her scrap the idea of divide and conquer faster than she had considered it. Initially, she had hoped that they would take two teams, each one with a net and one with bait, and go through. Now she wanted to keep an eye on them. Too many times had someone gotten themselves in trouble for being...spirited. "Alright." She nodded, pulling out her own recently acquired shard. "While we will move in a group, pair off. Yes this is the buddy system but if something happens and we get split up, you won't be alone and someone can call for help." Pointing at Nitratine, she nodded. "You are with me. Painite and Zinkernite are paired. But for now, we move as a group to start checking the rail cars. Stay out of sight of the Station." "Now, let's see if these things work." And she held up her own crystal.

Nitratine signed but did as they were told. It wasn't as if working with others was something foreign but Nitratine generally preferred to be given a task and then be left alone to do it. After all it was just a cat. There was no reason they couldn't just call out for someone else if they found the thing. The Bosses had said the thing should give off energy though so Nitratine pulled out their divining shard again and got it going. That at least they knew how to do. "Right ... so lets see if these things work like they said they're going to." Why couldn't they have gotten paired with Painite? She at least seemed chipper and excited which had to go for something right, probably a better chance at finding the cat they were looking for.

“Ah. alright then.” Zinkenite nodded amiably. It was a good way to pair them off as well, balancing out a net wielder for each team along with bait. Given how quick cats could be, lord only knew that they’d probably end up having to still coordinate nets in close quarters but it was an excellent start he thought. “Pleasure to both make your acquaintance and to be working with you!” He said as he fished out his crystal and tried to see how well this would work.

Painite listened to the directions, taking them under advisement as a suggestion and grinning as she nodded her head eagerly. She was always happy to work with others, as long as they were willing to improvise and enjoy the ride with her. Too serious, and she started to get edgy. Unpredictable. But this looked like it was going to be a fun chance to get to know some of her compatriots, and nothing too stressful. That meant she could enjoy herself, maybe come up with an interesting trap, and get some bonus points for catching one of these little cat-shaped problems. "Brilliant! Good luck, you two! Hope you don't have any allergies to worry about," she waved at Stibnite and Nitratine, before turning to Zinkenite. She offered him a firmly held out hand of cheery greeting. "Pleasure's mine! Let's go check out one of those spooky looking cars!" In her other hand, she held her own shard, tucked under the bag of bait.

Nitratine's crystal began to glow softly, but it didn't seem to be in the direction of the rail cars. As a matter of fact, it seemed as though it was back towards the Station; somewhere Stibnite had specifically said to avoid being spotted around... OOC:grymoire Do you continue in that direction or do you ignore the crystal's response? During your next action post, roll 1d4. 1 - Nitratine's crystal immediately goes dark. Whatever blipped seems to be moving quickly, or maybe it was just reading the energy signatures of your companions. Weird. The search continues! Roll 1d20 to continue your search. 2 or 3 - Should you choose to head towards the Station you'll notice that the crystal's glow is steady. There definitely seems to be something in that direction. Once closer roll 1d20, this time with a +5 to your roll. If your roll adds up to 17-20 quote Brilliant Moonbeams. 4 - There is no doubt in your mind that you should head towards the Station. The crystal's glow is steady and once you get closer you catch movement out of the corner of your eye. Please quote Brilliant Moonbeams in your response. Sirene Naiads Teams work together! If you decide to follow the glow of Nitratine's crystal you may also roll 1d4 and follow the prompts above. As the team leader it is your choice to call the others to follow this hunch as well or leave them to continue searching on their own! For the remaining team members: Unless alerted by Stibnite to rejoin the rest of the team, your search continues as before! Roll 1d20 and continue following the information from the original search prompt! IF Stibnite rallies the troops you may rejoin the other half of the team and also proceed with rolling 1d4.

Nitratine had gotten a vague primer before on how the crystals worked, mostly because they had been down in the labs and had seen some of the work on them even if they hadn't participated in their creation. It meant Nitratine trusted the little glowing rock and despite what Stibnite said wandered a bit closer to the Station since that's where the glow seemed to be pointing. Keeping out of what they assumed was line of sight Nitratine wandered a bit closer to the Station to try to figure out if that was the right direction or if maybe the crystal was just pointing further past the restaurant. They really didn't want to get spotted if there were still workers hanging around but they were supposed to be finding a cat and ... cats liked alley ways and free food right? "Um, guys I think there might be .. ack!... okay something definitely moved. Someone else needs to go see what it is." Nitratine was absolutely not going over there if they were going to get jumped without someone else as a shield.

What did I just... Stibnite mentally groaned as Nitratine began to move towards the Station. Nodding to the other two, she sucked it up and followed the suddenly energetic woman, more keeping an eye out for people who wandered to close. One could be following the crystal and one could keep watch.
At least that was the case until she realized her own crystal was glowing brighter and staying strong. That was very, very odd...
Glancing around, she noticed Nitratine suddenly looking 'surprised'. Stepping over to her, Stibnite looked in the direction she was pointing and...

Nothing. Silence and darkness. Her crystal kept glowing so something was there but she shook her head and looked back at Nitratine. "Are you sure it wasn't something in the wind?" Given that nothing was catching her own eye at the moment, she didn't call the other two over but she did stand up a bit straighter and look around them. "Something might be here. Or these things are finding something else."

“Perhaps… it moved fast enough that it’s confusing the crystals? They sounded rather…new?” He offered up to the group "Experimental technology and all that." He mused. He also wondered if perhaps they all needed more ... practice? He at the least didn't feel like he was doing well.
