A venture like this, in most cases, would have better been left for much later at night than nine-thirty, edging towards ten. That it was an area that wasn't highly trafficked during the evening hours was certainly a bonus. That their group was small, dressed primarily in dark colors that made them mostly inconspicuous was an additional bonus. It would make it easier for them to move around in -- at least up until one of the crystals started to glow, in the event any did.
When Mayet had been more industrial and less idealized the Warehouse District saw more than its own fair share of traffic. Stationed between the rail yard and the docks it had served as the halfway point for all manner of goods, as well as a storage spot for many of the city's larger businesses. Some of them were still operational, but mostly the buildings lay large, empty and forgotten, waiting for someone to plan something.
Or maybe they were just waiting for a team to come through and find exactly what they were looking for somewhere in or around one of the buildings. Maybe...

Uvarovite was slightly annoyed that the two he'd already worked with on projects hadn't been assigned to him but he supposed there was a reason for that. They all did need to get to know each other if they were going to work together and it made sense to put some of the more experienced members with the newer ones. Plus, Nitratine annoying someone else for a change was going to be nice. Once everyone had regrouped in front of the main Warehouse building he looked everyone over before setting out the items they'd been given. The most likely fake credentials he tucked into a pocket before picking up one of the nets for himself. "So, since I do not know enough about you I can't reasonably assign you tasks in this little adventure so I will leave it up to you what you think you will be most useful doing. If that doesn't work out then 'jobs' will be switched for effectiveness. Since we are trying to find a cat, and alive, does anyone have relevant experience that will help in this endeavor?"

It was a mild twinge of disappointment that moved through him when the teams were announced. He'd of loved a chance to actually work with Stibnite - but of course, the universe had to make things less than easy. There would be time later - hopefully when they had succeeded in their task - to talk with her and finally bite the bullet and be shot down, or not, if things went well. Only time would tell. When they arrived, Lecuite also made a grab for a net on a pole before letting it rest against his shoulder in a semi-mockery of an at ease stance. "Well," He said, facing Uvarovite and giving the other man a small, polite smile. "I can't say I have an extensive experience in chasing after cats, but I've been around plenty of animals - but if it's got a human level of intellect well..." He shrugged. This was unknown territory. "Who's to say if trying to go for it's animal instincts will work at all."

Relative experience in finding and capturing a cat? The question nearly made Spinel snort but he kept himself composed and quiet as the other man they were working with spoke. So their 'leader' was giving off a slight annoyance and matter-of-fact demeanor while the other one he assumed was Leucite went with the friendly method. Charming. Glancing at the items offered to them, the brand new solder was considering the best choices. Both nets were taken by the men who appeared to have some sort of seniority which left the food and the toys. Grabbing the bag of toys, he opened the satchel and looked at the cat-nipped mouse. "Well, I cannot say my first day at anything has involved such an interesting and colorful task." Offering an easy, well-practiced smile, he put the mouse back in the satchel and nodded his head. "But I don't have any relative experience here. My apologies, Sir."

Regalite was many things: tall, strong, muscular.
Quiet.
She listened to the others as they discussed things, moving to take the food, considering it was the only option left to her. What she would do with it, she had no idea, as she was not sure cats were supposed to even eat these things. She stood at attention at all times, soft eyes alert and instincts bristling. The only thing she had a lot of experience in was guarding things, though she did very much like animals.
Just usually she was alone and no one would have their intimidating impression of her ruined by seeing her stoop to pet a small, fuzzy cutie.
She continued to say nothing.

Uvarovite watched everyone pick their items without comment before carefully rolling up the satchel they'd been given and tucking it into subspace. He would have just tossed it in one of the many dumpsters laying around but he had a feeling someone, most likely one of the Bosses assistants, would have words about things going missing. "Human intelligence doesn't mean it doesn't have any animal instincts." He looked at Lecuite for a moment before shrugging. "A human will still gravitate toward food if they want it or 'toys' that they're interested in. Even humans can be distracted with a laser pointer." He supposed it was a bit too much to hope that anyone had experience catching animals. It didn't hurt to ask since he might have gotten lucky. Looking around he tried to figure out where they should start, running a hand through his hair as he did so. "Unless anyone has an objection, or a different idea, I believe we should start searching at one end of our area and work our way across. We should stay relatively close together in case someone finds the animal and needs assistance but with four of us we should be able to cover a wide enough area." The plan wasn't a BAD one. A sweep search of the area would ensure that - so long as they remained relatively in line, that they should be able to cover the ground effectively and with very little change of their quarry 'slipping the gap' as it were. He had no qualms against it - the question was what did one define as 'relatively close?' Besides, they had just met, and attempting to get the four of them to try and work their in spiral fashion from four different points would require far too much coordination and trust that he was seeing evidenced tonight. So far they had quiet, a personality he couldn't quite place, down-to-business, and himself. Not a lot to work with - and with the "boss" being down-to-business about things well... Leucite would do his best to offer what skills he could to the other man. "You're not wrong," He admitted to Uvarovite. "But humans are also really good at putting aside those baser instincts and distractions if they feel threatened or for their own survival. Just saying it's novel territory is all. I think the plan is sound and we should space what? Twenty feet? Thirty? At least within earshot I would think." He glanced over at the other talkative member of the group, giving them a nod. "Promise we're not hazing you, this is... unusual and I've been around for my fair share of years." He shot a glance at the not so talkative member of the next. "How about you?" He asked. "Any thoughts?" Grymoire He's playing ball he promises! Sirene Naiads We're not hazing you promise! Lithiasaur Surely you have an opinion!

"You sound so reassuring." Spinel offered the larger man with a bit of a side-eye. It wasn't that he didn't 'trust' the more seasoned man but, he didn't trust him. He wasn't sure who it could trust yet though he was sure who he found interesting. That number would change and his thoughts on people might alter as things went on but for now, their 'leader' at least seemed to have a decent head on his shoulders. Drawing out the new crystal he had been given, he looked around the warehouse and let out a deep breath. This was going to be a boring night. "Well, shall we start with this one?" He motioned towards the building closest to them.

Uvarovite looked at the others before nodding at Lecuite's response and suggestions. "I would prefer everyone be able to see each other as well as hear. Yelling will carry if we make too much noise and there is a chance there may still be workers around that could hear us." The last thing they needed was some civilian coming over and wondering what was going on. Or worse yet calling the authorities. "We'll start with around twenty feet and go from there." The silver-haired man pulled out his crystal, letting his power seep into the stone enough that it gave off a faint light. It was probably their best chance at finding something so he moved it about carefully until he noticed it was strong in one direction than other. "We'll start in that direction. Lecuite please take the furthest point from me, we will keep the others between us and work our way carefully east."

"Yes sir, wilco," Leucite offered to Uvarovite with a snappy - if not quite tongue-in-cheek - salute. He moved to form the other end of the line. "You heard the boss," He said to the other two as he moved. "Twenty foot spacing, east-ward facing, on the bounce! Come on, do you want to live forever?" He might have been grinning entirely too much and having the time of his life -don't at him. Doing the math he paced himself out so that he was at what would be the far end of the line, taking his cue from the others and pulling out his own diving crystal to focus and give a read a go. Keep the others between us? Spinel couldn't help himself as he heard those words. His teeth gritted and his eyebrow twitched while his hand closed into a fist around the crystal he was holding. He could hear the words in his head over and over again as if they were being said right into his ear... Useless. Worthless. Weak.So what if he had been born faulty? What did it matter that he had been behind, delayed? He'd proven them all wrong and he'd do it again! He'd show them he wasn't something to be caged and petted. So while Uvarovite had set up his mental state, it had been Leucite that pushed him over the edge. "Screw off." Oh, there would have been a few more choice words right then but he managed to hold back a little. "You don't need to treat us like porcelain dolls. I don't think either one of us is going to break just because of a cat!" His tone and voice was low, a rage growl more than a screaming fire. But he shook it off, releasing his fist just enough before moving away from the buffoon. (Sorry for double quotes) Torvil Well you made a friend... Grymoire 'respect' the elders at least

Whereas Spinel's crystal had remained dark, Uvarovite's sprang to life the moment he fed a bit of energy into it before maintaining a low, steady glow, seeming to signify that there was something in the direction of the warehouse nearest him. Distanced some 60ft away from him, Leucite's crystal flickered to life and then lit up, maintaining a strong, steady glow. Despite the spread, they were still close enough that there was a chance that Uvarovite's crystal was picking up the same signature that Leucite was closer to. There was also a chance that they were both picking up two different signatures entirely. OOC: Two crystals have responded in what could be two different directions. Your team has a choice. Do you split up and investigate the two different locations?
Do you focus on the stronger signature and follow the lead that Leucite seems to have picked up?
Do you need more information? Maybe something will happen if you all focus on reading together. Discuss it amongst yourselves and when you've agreed on a decision please quote Brilliant Moonbeams for your next prompt!

Uvarovite's eye twitched slightly at the young man's outburst and after taking a deep breath he spoke, " Spinel!" His voice was sharp, loud enough they would all hear but not deep enough to carry far from them. "No one is treating you like porcelain. You wouldn't be here if anyone thought you were." His own fingers tightened around his crystal as he tried to maintain his composure. "I am responsible for the safety of everyone here no matter their skill or rank. This is how things work here, we work together as a team and that means utilizing our abilities to their best extent and right now I need the two of us who have been here longer on the outside." He didn't care about anyone's ego or how tough they thought they were. If something happened to either of the new kids it would be his head on the block and if the younger man wanted to act childish he'd find a way to put a leash on him. "Now do as I said and focus." Taking his eyes off the younger man he looked between his own crystal and that of Leucite. The other man's crystal seemed to have a stronger response so it made sense to follow that lead. "We have two options and I suggest we follow Leucites first. The crystal is responding better and if it turns out to be nothing we check the other direction and try again."

He'd meant no offense of course, and realized that he'd probably struck some sort of nerve. He filed that little fact away for later, perhaps to discuss ways of making Spinel feel less... weak and in need of protection. "Center's usually where the fighting is thickest, to be honest," Leucite added after Uvarovite's call. However that fact might be construed or implied in the given non-combat situation, well - he'd let them decide. Also, cats could be nasty little creatures - all hissing and claws and fluff. Lecuite MUCH prefered dogs thank you very much. At the suggestion of using his own crystal, he nodded, keeping his energy fueling it as he nodded toward where it was tugging. "Sounds like a plan to me."
