backdated end of MayIt was afternoon before Cybele made her way out of her room and downstairs. (Yes, she was aware that she was not technically Cybele right now. That was reserved for when she was wearing the silver antlers and the ruffled skirts. Right now she was in borrowed pajamas. Her hair was down, and unkempt. She looked nothing like a senshi. Still, being Cybele was all she knew, all she remembered. She clung to the name.) The purification had hit her hard. Anything that had happened after that was a blur. The blurry memories suggested that she’d been dropped off here, managed a quick shower that had not quite been enough to get off a week’s worth of grime, and then collapsed into the most comfortable bed she could have ever imagined. She’d slept for hours. She felt like she probably could have slept for longer, if she’d tried. It was something of a struggle to pull herself away from that lovely mattress, but she realized that she was beginning to get hungry. She managed to sit, and then stand, and then find a bathroom, and then make her way down the stairs. It took a bit longer to find the kitchen. Cybele got distracted just looking at the staircase and the other rooms. She didn’t think she remembered being in a house before. It was bright and personal in a way that Negaspace just wasn’t, despite the best efforts of a few of the officers. The decorations especially held her attention. Eventually she caught sight of a stove and refrigerator, though. The kitchen was difficult to process, as well. It was clean. There were no rat youma, no passive aggressive sticky notes lining the fridge. It was perfect. It was so nice and perfect that touching anything felt strange, regardless of permission she might have gotten the night before. Cybele stood staring at the fridge for a long moment, until her stomach growled and she turned back towards the door. “Hello?” she called out, only slightly unsteady. Ganymede- Paris- had said that her relatives would probably be around.

Claire was so excited. She had been up since probably four in the morning trying to make sure everything was ready. Starting a new life was always difficult, but as with Allison, or rather, Cyllene, she had a little bit of experience. Even if her "children" didn't want to stay in the house with them, they were always welcome.
"Oh! Good morning!" Claire gasped when she heard the voice from the kitchen. She immediately hopped up from where she was sitting out in the downstairs living room. Yes, she was aware that it was not morning, but if their guest was only just getting up, then it was morning for her.
"I was wondering when you would be awake. I bet you're hungry. What would you like to eat? Are you a vegetarian? Vegan? Any food allergies you can remember? We'll take it slow. Paris' cousin is a vegetarian so we always have those options available if you'd like. And sometimes it's nice to have something lighter in your stomach if you're not sure. We also have pasta I could make-- oh, would you like tea? Or coffee? Or something else to drink? We have orange juice and milk and apple juice for when Paris brings her children over."
Ah, maybe she should slow down. She knew that the poor girl only just woke up, but she wanted to make sure she was fed and comfortable before trying to establish the rest of her new life.
"I'm Claire Gallo, but everyone calls me Momma. You're welcome to call me that too if you'd like! I'm Paris' mother-in-law," she beamed proudly.

Cybele blinked. As much as the large house would have felt terribly empty without anyone in it, it was still a bit, well, strange, to come face to face with a stranger. At least the stranger seemed kind, which was really all Cybele could ask for at this point. "Good morning," Cybele repeated, and smiled. The woman was speaking so quickly. She was speaking a bit too quickly for Cybele's exhausted brain to really process it all. Cybele stared somewhat blankly at her through half-closed eyes, but she did get the basic idea. Food. Her mouth watered just at the brief mention of pasta, and she gave a deep nod. "I was going to ask if it was all right for me to take some cereal, or," she glanced towards the fridge, towards the large, nice, fridge, and she hoped, "Eggs, if you have them?" She couldn't actually remember a time when she'd eaten eggs, but she could almost taste the golden, runny yolks. "I'm-" introductions should have been easy, but Cybele squinted and hesitated. "I think I picked the name Diana before, but-"

Claire gasped when it didn't seem as though Cybele knew what to call herself. "Oh, you haven't decided on a name yet? That's no problem! Wait right here," she insisted as she hurried off into another room. There was a bunch of shuffling around, but Claire eventually came back with a few books in her arms.
Not just any books. Books of names.
"I started collecting these when Paris and Chris started having babies, but then Allison joined our family, and she was just like you. She didn't have a name to call herself either, and she couldn't go back to the name she had before," Claire explained as she flitted about so she could go to the refrigerator and pull out a large carton of eggs.
"Do you know how you like your eggs cooked? We can do a whole bunch of different ways if you're not sure!" There was a lot of fun when it came to deciding what eggs were the best! "We have cereal too, and you're welcome to that any time you'd like!"

It was beyond sweet, really, that Claire went to grab books of names the moment that she heard that Cybele did not know what to call herself. Cybele stood in the door as she went to the other room and accepted the books when she returned with a true smile. She flipped open the one on top to be polite, although in reality she'd likely need that breakfast as well as a few more hours of sleep before she was really ready to start going through the lists of options. The woman offering to cook for her was even sweeter. Cybele barely knew how to process that. "Sunny side up, if that's all right," she said, half thinking about how delicious the gooey yolks would be and half wondering if she was supposed to be offering money, or something, for all this. She glanced back at the books. "Chris is Paris's husband, right? Who's Allison?" It seemed like she'd gone very quickly from going home with one person to having a lot of names to keep track of.

“Sunny side, coming right up!” Claire smiled and made her way to the stove so she could fish out a couple pans to place on the counter as she went about getting things ready for the eggs.
“Yes, Paris is married to Chris. He’s my second oldest. My oldest son is Michael and he’s the spitting image of his father. You’ll meet him at some point. Then there’s Peter, who is Chris and Michael’s younger brother. He’ll be twenty-one this year,” she paused to sigh sadly, obviously wishing that her babies could be young forever, but that was okay that they were growing and making lives for themselves.
“Allison is like you, actually. Oh, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that,” she winced, obviously realizing that she was giving away secrets, but in the end decided it was important for Cybele to know she wasn’t alone. “She was originally a normal Senshi who was corrupted into the Negaverse, but she went to Ganymede for help and we adopted her into our family since she had nowhere else to go,” Claire explained as she waited for the pan to heat up before cracking a couple eggs into it.
“She’s often off doing her own thing now, but at least she doesn’t have to worry about the Negaverse trying to harass her. I’m sure she’ll be around for you to meet!”

Chris. Paris. Michael. Peter. Cybele nodded, trying to keep up. There were babies in there somewhere, as well, and an adopted daughter. It all sounded like the families that Cybele had been thinking about longingly for months, when she watched heartwarming Christmas commercials and when she'd talked to some of the others in the Negaverse about their outside lives. She felt that longing a bit now, as well, although it was easier to squelch considering the unprecedented kindness she was being shown. The sound of the eggs sizzling in the pan, and especially the smell of them, was enough to chase away any and all jealousy. This was by far the best moment of her life. "Oh, are we not supposed to talk about senshi and such?" she asked, since Claire seemed nervous to be mentioning that. She went quiet for a moment as she tried to comb through what was left of her memories, then said, a bit sadly, "I don't know if I remember enough about anything else to make good conversation."

"Oh! You can talk about Senshi and such," Claire quickly clarified with a bright smile. "You're safe to talk about it here. Everyone knows. It's just considered rude to give the identities of others without their permission."
She was sure Allison would forgive her. It wasn't as though she told Cybele who she was, just that she was a Senshi.
"Some people don't mind sharing their identities to those they trust, like Chris will happily tell you he's Valhalla-- oh…" Hmm. Maybe she needed to be more careful about that. But that was fine! Chris would have told her right away, anyway!
"But it's okay if you don't remember enough. We'll just have to make sure you make new memories. I have everything prepared in the other room for you to look through. I have different crafts for you to try out, or to see if you like to draw, or movies you'd like to watch. If you want to try cooking, you're welcome to any time! There are plenty of books to choose from, too. And I picked out my favorite movies of each genre we have so you can see what you like best. It might be scary to have to learn about yourself again, but you won't be alone while you do it."

"I'm a senshi," said Cybele, because one of the few things she knew about herself. "Cybele. Ganymede might have told you, but if it's more proper to hear it from me, then now you know." Her lips pressed thin for a moment before she added, "I was corrupted for a while and now I think I'm running from the Negaverse. You should hear that from me, as well." It seemed like she knew, if she was comparing her to this other senshi, her daughter, who had corrupted and then repurified. She must have known about how shattered Cybele's memories were, as well, if she'd gathered things to help Cybele know what she liked. It took Cybele a while to fully process that. Long seconds passed before she even managed to say, "You did all that for me?" The warmth flared in her chest again, hopeful. "This is all beyond kind of you," she added. "I don't know how I'm ever going to repay you for it."

Claire nodded patiently in understanding as Cybele spoke, wanting to give her the chance to tell her all about herself. Or as much of herself as she could remember. In the meantime, Claire worked on finishing up the sunny side up eggs and slid them out of the pan and onto a plate for Cybele and herself.
Oh, but eggs weren't enough, so she pulled out a bowl of already cut fruit from the refrigerator, just in case Cybele wanted something sweet to go with it.
Oh, and she definitely remembers to put some bread in the toaster to make sure they had something to go with both.
“Of course!” Claire smiled brightly, but she shook her head when Cybele started to worry about repaying her. “You have a whole new life to work out. You don’t have to worry about something like repaying me,” she insisted, paused, and then gasped, because she forgot something very important!
“Oh! If Ganymede didn’t tell you, I’m also Paradise, Page of Cosmos! So I’m a magical girl, just like you!” Just ignore the fact that she was a couple decades older.

Not repaying her at all? Claire said it like it was nothing, but it was such a foreign concept that it had Cybele silently trying to wrap her head around it while she got the eggs ready, as well as some fruit and toast that Cybele hadn't even asked for. "Thank you," she managed to say when the food was placed in front of her, and although the words came out quietly, there was something about them that was from the heart. The first bite of egg she savored, and it was everything that she'd thought it would be. After that, though, she started to practically inhale the food. It had been a long, hungry week. She did perk up when Claire mentioned being a Page, though, and she didn't seem surprised by the thought of her being a magical girl, despite any age gaps. "Cosmos are the ones in white, aren't they?" she asked between bites, "With the stars? I think I met one recently."

Claire nodded enthusiastically as she took a bite of her own eggs. "I haven't met many others yet. Paris seems to think I'll be in over my head, but I'll have you knowI used to be in the military. Well, the Navy. And I was more of a secretary. But Beau, my husband, was an Admiral for many years until he finally retired, so I got to learn lots of skills vicariously through him."
That wasn't how it worked, but she liked to think that she knew some things just through her association with her husband.
"You'll meet him soon. He'll adore you. He's always busy doing things, but don't take it personally. He just needs to be moving and working. Retiring was very difficult for him," she added with a small sigh. Oh, but maybe she shouldn't be talking about her husband when she should be talking to Cybele.
"When you're feeling better and more comfortable, maybe you would take me to meet some others? Paris doesn't want me going out alone," she sighed dramatically. She could handle herself. Probably.

"I don't think Paris should get to tell you what to do," said Cybele. "I know that she's a Princess, and that she's wise, and wonderful," she continued without any sarcasm, just a glowing sort of admiration that reached all the way to her tired eyes, "But you're the mother figure here, aren't you?" With her memories the way they were, that was to say, minimal and extremely fractured, she had no idea how America's Navy compared to this magical war, or how much experience Claire would have gained by being a secretary, or an admiral's wife, but she seemed to be an adult and therefore just as capable of making her own choices about things as anyone else who found themselves awakened as a Page. "It's not a bad idea to go out with other people, though," she said. "It might be a bit before I go back out." Her chest was still achy from the purification, and her head hurt a bit, as well. "I'm still going to need a lot more sleep, but afterwards I'll go out with you, and see who we can meet."

Claire smiled warmly at Cybele, touched by her defense of her being able to do what she wanted.
"I don't mind listening to those who are more experienced with these things," she admitted, even if she might pout about it. "Ganymede and the others have been fighting this longer than I have. If they think it's better to not go out alone, then I'm going to believe that they care and don't want me hurt. Just as they look to me when it does come to motherly things," she added with a brightened smile.
"That sounds wonderful. I look forward to going out with you. And… I hope this isn't too presumptuous, but if you would like to have an official motherly figure to talk to whenever you need help with things you can't figure out for yourself, because I know already that you're strong and capable, I would be happy to be that for you."

"I-" Cybele's voice cracked at Claire's final offer. The eggs that she'd been so excited about suddenly no longer held her interest. She just stared at Claire, fork loosely held in one hand, as she fought not burst into tears. It only partially worked. She could feel her eyes growing wet at the corners. "I want a family," she said. "I'm starting to realize that. I've been wanting one, badly, ever since the Negaverse took mine from me, so I'm not sure if you want to offer what you're offering." Be careful, she'd been telling herself since she'd left the bed. Don't ask for too much. Don't hope for more than you'll get."If you let me come to you for advice on top of living here, and calling you Momma, I might accidentally start thinking of you as something like real family, and it sounds like you already have plenty of relatives."
