Quote:
Alien Abductions (2) : Destiny City’s had an overwhelming amount of reports of strange lights in the sky. No one can get anything verifiable on camera, and the few videos that have been circulating seem like they could have easily been doctored. There’s been a strange uptick in reports of alien abductions, but the City can’t seem to verify anything, and at this point in time it seems like it’s just people looking for attention. However, there’s a temporary ban on civilian-owned drones until this whole thing clears up.

So they were abducting aliens. Maybe not Valencians, or so Te’noch would’ve liked to believe. That they had no plans whatsoever to abduct them, that their mission had remained a steadfast secret from the world at large.

Except hadn’t their eminence Caedeus been abducted as well? An absolute age ago, and what if this was that? If the smothered rumors and silenced masses held grains of truth within them.

What if an alien had been abducted!?

Certainly there were more than simply their own kind that existed on the planet, the Senshi and Knights various tales seemed to confirm as much. Not to mention the plethora of information on what the humans deemed paranormal and ‘beyond the pale’ - fourth dimensional lingo and tales of great monsters and beasts that roamed in the dead of night from distant past.

Some of which sounded very strange….very alien indeed…and maybe not valencian by any means, but still? Would the commander really fault them for ever so quietly investigating news of aliens being abducted!? So long as they weren’t caught.

Itztenoch vowed to ensure that. To back Nessa and, implore then buddy system, just in case - really it was little more than a scouting mission. Looking for information after hours.

It wasn’t like they were going to kidnap some poor innocent soul and shake them down for information…

The chance to escape the camp - if even for a little while was worth it. Although Nessaela had activated her glamour before they'd gone too far from the barrier that hid their society from prying eyes she swore she could still feel the gaze from random passerby as she and Te'noch roamed the streets of Destiny City. Sure they were out to gather information (or so Te'noch had tried to explain to her) but Nessaela was more interested in gently harvesting a little of the energy from those individuals that were still wandering about. She keenly hid her source stone from the view of the public as it activated to pull just a little bit of energy from yet another human. There was a controlled measure in place in Ness's mind. She drew just the smallest amount of energy to make the stone glow before cutting the connection.

Gathered like that: in starts and stops she was hoping that she wouldn't cause the humans to even notice what was going on.

Tucking her stone away she glanced to her side at Te'noch before pausing to whisper at him, "what exactly were we looking for again. You don't believe that we'd be the ones that the rumors are talking about, do you?"

Pride that swelled in Tenochs chest, for all that it took him some time to realize how diligently Nessa was continuing to work. Even as he went on, and he hadn’t thought to be subtle about snatching and going and walking — was too focused on the news.

So much so that he’d brushed it off. Sight that he thought had passed for a cell phone flash. Screens that the humans tried their eyes and brains in, seemed they wore them like blinders before their faces - always some flashing screen at all times, reflecting images off their overbright eyes.

Except it was Nessa, wonderfully quick, nearly imperceptible with her snatching, and they had their promises, yes, but also? They had their orders.

To make it all work, no matter the cost. It must not fail - their mission - and surely if al the cities humans knew they would’ve been behind it? Willingly even!

Tenoch kept his soft look of notice to himself though, focused on Nessas lingering doubt, pointed questions which drove him to seek good ways to answer —- all the the things he admired her for shown in them.

“The commod——his emin—-no…’Caedus’,” and it felt so strange to say it like that, his name instead of a title. “At one point he was sequestered on this planet, yes?” against his will, but Tenoch did not wish to speak too oddly while passing crowds, had learned the humans gave looks for such things.

“What if there were others, no, if there are others? What if they were abducted here also?” Harsh low whisper, curious glance of surroundings before he continued on, if not valencian s them others of the galaxy as a whole, more than them existed to roam the spaces between space…

“There was news — the human news—-I thought it would be wise to make a proper patrol of the city and inspect the source of it.” Would stare at one of the primitive image boxes through a window again even. Would as a human even— there were many that held signs and went to groups and discussed such things. The never ending news cycles of their planet.

She was pensive at Tenoch's musing. It was possible that Caedus, their King, had been stuck along with others - but for all that the history of Velenia/Velencya was described; it was only the response from the Negaverse that had caused the betrayal and as a further consequence: imprisonment. But it was an interesting theory that maybe there were others that had been stuck for long periods of time as well. But that notion wasn't what was important to Nessaela. The cadets had orders to collect energy and just generally try to stay unnoticed. Hopefully she and Tenoch were blending in. However with the next statement from Tenoch Nessaela glanced up sharply. She was careful to keep her voice down as she replied back, "are you sure you want to do something like this? I'm wondering if its a wise allocation of our time. But if you think it'll pay off - at least it'd give us more time to work on our other assignments, right?"

She flashed her source stone to Tenoch before tucking it away. A more densely populated area would be harder to bring out the stone unnoticed and if she and Tenoch were to investigate/patrol then if they found a less dense area maybe then she could gather more than just snippets of the energy that was seemingly so freely there for the taking.

"I wish to -- explore the media. There seems to be a history of this city being filled with oddities?" and Tenoch huffed at himself, was briefly upset for lacking the proper language to speak quietly about all the things that didn't to pertain to earth without looking like a suspicious type. The humans seemed oft nosy at the worst possible times. Or so he'd noticed on his excursions with Eso.

"If all else fails--that---we'll have more time about to complete our other assignments." shrugged in agreement with Nessa, blinked in surprise at the briefest of flash's. At the stone tucked in hand, and oh, he was ever so proud of her. Her work ethic - her vicious tenacity and logical approach to all situations. Tenoch found himself pleased tenthousandfold to have found a partner to investigate with in her.

For all that she put up with - his - what must have seemed to the others like nonsense? He felt it was valid though...

"I would like to start at --- the others -- our friends? They spoke of a library near here." with the dreary gray cold of fall edging in. With the overcast nature of the sky and time ticking on. "What do you say Nessa? It's not far, and we can find clues from there out?" careful as she had been - slipped the com tech free - flashed a map before tucking it up under his sleeve again. Could've been a cell phone flash, for how brief the flare of light all was.

The idea of scouring out a library, a place of knowledge for humans to partake of, was intriguing to say the least. Nessaela left her source stone pocketed as she thought about the chance that she and Itztenoch could find something out regarding abductions. The one thing that she was curious about was and she verbally expressed this to Tenoch as they walked, "one has to wonder though if it's humans abducting aliens or the other way around. I mean it could be both but what an odd picture to paint. Humans taking people like us against our will."

Her mind refocused on the choice offered. If they couldn't find anything in the library then they could continue on with their main mission. Her gaze was steady as she took in the crowds around them. She stayed her hand from going back to fish out her stone before giving an almost imperceptible nod to her comrade. "Let's give the library a look-see. Who knows, maybe we can also find out something else about this city and its oddities."

For Destiny City was extremely full of strange occurrences. There had been talk amongst those senshi that were their loose allies in this camaraderie. Stories that couldn't be believable - but yet because the senshi and knights experienced it first hand, it had to be the truth.

"It would be -- except it seems as though more than people alone inhabit this planet. Wouldn't you agree?" of course there were the Senshi, and the Agents which they were meant to avoid, but maybe there was more than that? Tenoch believed that either the humans were exceptionally imaginative, or they'd had enough encounters with species other than their own that they knew well when to acknowledge the existence of such.

Even when things were masked as such to play it off as something other than what it looked to be. "It is an odd picture, isn't it? Everything in this place has been odd for me though - every time I turn to parse it one way or another - I cannot seem to keep a grasp on all the -- oddities." huffed a sigh full of fluster, for how he lacked the verbiage Nessa so expertly posessed.

It was why he'd asked her to go though - a barometer for truth, and lies, for sussing things out. Smile that overtook his face as she agreed. "Yes! It is their greater hub for things. I know that they have other resources available to them, but --- If it's valuable enough to archive in such an archaic method? Then surely it must be knowledge most precious." and the humans locked it away in buildings even, opened it to the public, monitored and shared it amongst themselves in such grand ways.

Tenoch grinned. Marveled as they steadily approached marbled steps that led up into gold spiral entryways. Great statues of ancient lions resting on granite balls that seemed to safeguard the space. How his lilac gaze lit up at the possibility of seeing more - if only in a far more controlled setting - so much of Earth felt like chaos to him. The chance at a quiet place meant for learning and little else? That sounded like a right dream.

Nessaela had glanced sharply around as Tenoch had asked his question, wary of being overheard. However at this time of evening it seemed as if no one else was around. Her gaze too travelled to stare at the granite statues that guarded the knowledge within. An odd choice in her eyes, it made it seem as those that entered were viewed somehow as prey: or was she just overthinking things. Instead of trying to figure out the little intricacies of the humans to do what they did Nessaela instead focused on the fact that although they'd been standing at the entrance of the library for the past few minutes she had not seen anyone else climb the steps around them to enter the building or vice versa. Maybe her theory on the library "preying" on humans had a bit of weight to it.

"When you suggested the library, did you perhaps have any idea on what were the hours of operation were for the day? I've noticed that humans post that sort of knowledge on sides of buildings so that they advertise when they are open and closed."

Nessaela climbed swiftly up the stairs and paused at the doors before finding the what she was looking for. Discreetly the cadet activated her comtech and glanced at its display before shaking her head in exasperation. "I think we're a little late for the day Tenoch," and here Nessaela pointed towards the sign before she continued, "I think it closed two hours ago."

She returned to Tenoch's side before flashing her source stone to him, "if we head back towards home we could continue with the task assigned to us. Any objections?"

He was cautious up the steps, wishing he could have his weapon drawn at the ready, he didn't like the way the rough stone animals sightless eyes seemed to track him....

Then Nessa was speaking, and -- Had he what now? Did the library's have times? These were places of public knowledge, how dare they be closed! It wasn't as if the humans had limited resources and an artificial sun to set and rise in an orderly manner.

Initially Tenoch wanted to argue, to protest, to -- and of course the streets had been strangely empty, hadn't they? The door-fronts full of concrete creatures, but lacking guards, or whatever humans used to keep the doors of their knowledge vaults and pretty pages secured from (and he'd peeked the news, theft was a problem he didn't understand on a planet where the resources seemed so overly abundant.) whatever such heavy doors secured things from.

"You are, this is humor, yes? A joke? Something silly--" and he had to try on his own, tug the doors, peer through darkened windows. Try things the human way rather than divulge into using his own tech. Nessa was not in fact making the joke. "I--no, no objections here. I suppose, maybe if I work on navigating the operations of this place more before running headlong into trouble with my assumptions."

Crestfallen as he was, he could only stare at the sign denoting times of entry and exit -- hours of days, and little abbreviations of those days he'd need to decipher -- there were entire Sun's that were closed! Asininely....

"Alright, alright, let's head home. Maybe we can work on something of your interest specifically? I'm, this planet is still finding new ways to annoy me," but Nessa didn't, and neither did any of the endeavors of his teammates. If anything? It'd be a very good distraction if he put his efforts towards aiding her instead. Plus, it was warmer back in the pods than out in the wind and darkening night....

Nessaela herselfhad been hoping to be able to access the library as well but unless they chose to break Terran laws it wasn't going to happen tonight. "I think if we came back during the daylight hours it would be a different story. Perhaps the knowledge inside is too valuable to be open to all at all hours of the day."

There wasn't anything particular in Nessaela's mind about what to do next and she glanced to her comrade. "I don't think stargazing qualifies as a suitable activity if we're already wishing to return home, and unless we want to continue wandering around the city I think going back is our best bet," and she dropped her voice to a conspiratorial whisper before continuing, "we could try gathering a little more energy as we head back but I think that maybe just getting back with what we've got so far is the better alternative. We can get a good night's rest and check the library tomorrow."

She was right, always right, it didn't stop the small smile from sprouting out of the pout that wanted to exist on his face. All the ways Nessa could pin point the obvious, like reading his mind, because chances were high that his main purpose for spying on the stars was in part to look for home, the home the commodore had known, the void space where the 'artificial home' (though it was real enough for him) they'd grown up on existed now.

He leaned ever closer to hear, hunched his shoulders against the whick of wind, and decided that no -- he did not feel like gathering a little more of anything that wasn't indoors, warm, surrounded by the strange smell Earth books gave off.

"I'd rather avoid feeling any more a stranger than I think I must seem to be to the -- to the locals here. Out prowling at night. I vote for going back, but tomorrow? If you're sure your up for it. We'll arrive within the designated 'opening hours' depicted on the sign." octaves dropped to be heard only by her, though a small part of him wanted to turn back and hurl an obscenity towards the building at their backs, what place closed its knowledge halls on hours!!!

Bahh -- Earth was weird, he was cold, Nessa was still right; he didn't deserve her level headed ideas. How she put up with him at all....

A mystery for tomorrow, just like the alien abductions.
