Don't underestimate me 'cause one day, you're gonna see
You're in a losing battle, babe
You'll never stop me being me
I got the beauty, got the brains
Got the power, hold the reins

Name: Gracie Soulier
Nicknames: Just Gracie, thank you!
Pronouns: She/her
Age: 24
Birthday: November 17th

School: Mayet University - Doctoral Studies in Chemistry.

Occupation: Graduate Teaching Assistant

Hobbies:

  • Cooking-- Some people love cooking, and some people are very good at it. Usually those two things go hand in hand. Not so with Gracie. She finds cooking fascinating and is endlessly exploring new recipes and trying to learn new things--but she is, in fact, notoriously terrible at it. This isn’t because she has no understanding of the applications of chemistry in cooking; rather it’s the opposite, and because she tends to experiment. She decides on a whim to substitute substances that are unconventional at best--either ingredients or toppings--because she likes to see how it changes things. And she has a tendency to overcook everything she makes, anyway. But hey, she has fun doing it, and if it’s truly awful in the end, there’s always takeout!

  • Fashion-- If you want to make it in this world, your image is just as important as your intellect and skill. Gracie is keenly aware of this and devotes a great deal of time, energy and money into cultivating that image. She follows fashion trends and does her best to keep ahead of them. She’s always aware of the eyes of the world, and if you can’t look good while doing your job, then you’re only making your job harder. If she isn’t working or practicing one of her other hobbies, you’ll usually find her poring over a magazine or online article, or out shopping for the perfect look. It takes work to look as good as she chooses to, but it’s the sort of hobby that pays for itself in her mind.

  • Reading-- Gracie is and always has been a voracious reader. It started during her childhood, when she would spend much of her time after school--and occasionally on the weekends--at the library. She never had a lot of friends growing up, and didn’t feel she needed them. Not real ones, anyway; her friends were her books, the heroes and heroines who marched through the world, saving it and having adventures, falling in love and learning how to survive in worlds that seemed mostly set against them. Or they were helpful instructors, offering her career ideas and information about the world, and Gracie has always, always hungered for information. She’s kept that habit to this day; be it fiction or nonfiction, sci-fi/fantasy or spy thriller, how-to guide or dissertation on the dietary habits of neanderthals, she will read just about anything and the odds are good that if it’s published, she’s either read it already or would be happy to read it when it’s mentioned to her. She’s less fond of certain forms of internet media; listicles and memes aren’t really on her radar, and she’d much prefer to pretend such things don’t exist.

Pros:

  • ”The answer is right there.” Intelligent -- Gracie is a very intelligent woman. She was a straight-A student in high school, magna c** laude in undergrad, and is already working on her doctorate at 24. She has a very, very quick and meticulous mind that can keep vast stores of information at the ready, and generally knows how to use it. Her intelligence is mostly to be found in academics, allowing her to follow complex theories and equations that would make a layman’s head spin, but is not entirely limited to it. She’s also rather good at strategic thinking, coming up with working plans quickly and efficiently, and modifying them on the fly in case something goes wrong--which is a very good thing, when you work in a lab and one little slip could have explosive results!

  • ”Sometimes you have to think of what others never would.” Creative-- One of Gracie’s greatest strengths isn’t just that she’s smart--it’s that she’s smart and creative. She’s not only book smart, but she’s able to think outside of the box to solve a problem or reach a goal that she wants. Sometimes this means coming up with… unusual solutions, and to an untrained eye this can make her look rather eccentric--many of her ideas appear to come out of left field, and anyone tasting her cooking would certainly think she’s a little outside the norm, to say the least--but the thing is, it gives her a distinct advantage. She isn’t the sort to stick with a specific way of doing things simply because it’s what’s normally done and is what works; she will try out a new method that she thinks might be better, and refuses to let herself get boxed in by tradition or assumption. Between this and her intellect, she’s very good at thinking on her feet, and is rarely taken off-guard or shaken by something going wrong--or at least not for long, because she starts coming up with other options almost immediately after the initial disappointment.

  • ”I’ll get what I want in the end.” Determined -- Intellect and desire can only get you so far, and this is a fact Gracie’s been aware of since childhood. Yes, it can ease things somewhat and provide more opportunities, but unless you have the will to work for what you want, you’ll hit a point and it will all come crashing down. Gracie has always been aware of that risk, and because of it she has never let herself relax enough to start slipping. She pushes onward toward her goals, refusing to slack off or let things slide, and puts in the work alongside her thoughts: long hours in the lab, long hours studying, forgoing small pleasures for the sake of a much bigger eventual payoff, and keeps herself motivated and working.

Cons:

  • ”This isn’t good enough!” Perfectionist -- One of Gracie’s greatest struggles is the fact that nothing can simply be ‘good enough’. It has to be perfect. Maybe it’s a side-effect of how easy getting high grades was for her, or maybe it’s simply that she has high standards, but either way, she gets irritated when something falls short of her expectations. Certainly in some cases it can still serve as a learning experience, and she doesn’t let it stop her, but it does annoy her--enough to make her go back over it once, twice, ten times to try and improve what might have been perfectly decent but that didn’t quite meet her standards. She’s rewritten e-mails over and over, redone calculations and experiments, cleaned her makeup off and started all over for even small imperfections. It simply has to be up to her exacting standards, or it needs to be tossed aside and done right. And she’ll get it right eventually, so she’ll keep at it until it is.

  • ”You can’t trust anyone but yourself.” Guarded -- Gracie may be smart and creative, but the one thing she isn’t is trusting. She tends to be suspicious of ulterior motives in others until she gets to know them--and that can be difficult to do when she doesn’t want to open herself up to them. She tends to keep other people at arms’ length, believing it better that she stand or fall under her own power. That isn’t to say she’s actively hostile or avoidant of other people. No, it’s much simpler than that: there is a wall, and Gracie exists one one side of that wall, while the rest of the world exists on the other side. It’s simply safer, she believes, to keep them at arms’ length where they can’t hurt her, and where she can take care of herself. She’s come this far on her own, she can keep going just as she has been, and that way she doesn’t have to deal with all the messy, frightening ordeal of trusting people who might betray her.

  • ”I’ll deal with this myself.” Overconfident -- Gracie can handle herself, Gracie is smart and clever and creative and determined to reach her goals, and she doesn’t need anyone’s help to get there. Of course this means she’s overconfident! She’s very sure of herself--too sure of herself, because she has pulled herself to the place she wants to be and of course she’s only going to keep rising, of course what she has planned for herself will work out! Gracie has the sort of overconfidence that could be dangerous; no matter how smart or creative she is, no matter how good she is at thinking on her feet or working her way out of a situation, no matter how much work she puts in, there are simply some situations where she will not come out on top, especially working on her own. But until that happens, risks don’t feel very much like a risk to someone who thinks she can get what she wants no matter what comes her way...

General Appearance

Gracie is a very tall woman, standing at an impressive 5’11, with fair skin and very pale grey eyes framed by thick lashes. Her hair is black and wavy, reaching to the base of her shoulder blades; she often wears it tied back in a ponytail or a braid to keep it out of the way. She tends to either dress professionally in suits and heels--whoever said you can’t wear heels as a tall woman is a liar and a coward and she’ll fight them--or in casual clothes that are currently fashionable and attractive for women her age.

Dark Kingdom Alias: Soldier Lavendulan

Uniform:
As the Negaverse is a militaristic organization, all base stage Negaverse officers will start out with their choice of one of the basic uniform options. Further stages will allow for additional customization and the ability to personalize your agent to better suit their specific character development, but for now the things that designate them as an individual should be limited to basic accessories along with their secondary color.

Base Uniform -- Long sleeves with skirt!
Base Uniform Color -- Cool tones, please, the darker option
Secondary Color -- Electric blue

Gloves -- Yes, fingerless.
Shoes -- Combat boots! Not particularly heavy ones, but something like seen here
Accessories -- Nothing in particular, though she’s likely to wear her hair tied up and out of her face.

Weapon

Bo staff, potentially ending up something more akin to a scythe? We'll see how it goes.

Additional Question for Quest Characters

What makes YOU a good recruit for the Dark Kingdom?
Gracie’s intellect and curiosity alone make her a decent potential recruit; her determination means that once she’s set her mind on a task, she won’t stop until she’s completed it. She’s ambitious and cunning and seeks knowledge above all other things. While she might need some work on cooperating well with others, the sheer hunger she brings for new discoveries is more than enough to make her a useful candidate. Also, her position within academia means that, even though she’s still a student, she does at least move around those circles and could offer potential connections there over time.
