Sabra Knight via Discord

Faisal found himself pacing around and around in the gardens. The swordsman had wandered the markets early in the morning so that he could browse wares, his interest lingering on finer jewelry especially rings. Still, he wasn't quite certain how to express himself when it came to his budding intentions and the conflicting thoughts continued battering at him until he had to break away from his home for some fresh air. It wasn't the most glamorous of locations but Faisal did enjoy the overlook on the southern side of the city that overlooked the desert. It was a sunny day, the heat of the sun beating down on him but Faisal didn't mind. He rather enjoyed the heat and allowed his skin to soak in the sun's warmth while he leaned against the edge, his expression thoughtful as he continued trying to figure out the best way forward with his fiance. They were already engaged so why did he feel the need to do something other than what was already planned? Faisal let out a sigh of frustration before kicking at a loose pebble, the small stone skittering down the steps leading to the street below. "How to impress a girl....the truest mystery of my life." He murmured with frustration.

The shade in the public gardens were always a delightful reprieve from the dusty heat that was a staple of the Oba landscape. Zuri knew that she would one day have a large and private garden of her own to walk through so that she wouldn't have to worry about the general public. One tree in particular was her favorite place to hunker down with a book next to, and she was quite looking forward to settling into the shade of its heavy branches for an hour or so. Approaching the steps to the gardens, she stopped short when a pebble clattered gently by and looked up for the source. Who.. was that? "Will there be more stones coming down, or may I pass?" she asked with a playful tone.

"Hmm?" Faisal blinked in surprise before turning so that he could try to find the origin of the sudden voice. A light flush decorated his skin as he leaned over the railing and spotted a small child. "I'm so sorry. Are you alright?" He called out as he tried to get a closer look from his higher perspective. It was hard to tell but it also looked like she wasn't quite Oban either...a hybrid? Faisal's gaze narrowed with confusion as he tried to pinpoint the features. She was not like any child he had seen before and while it wasn't horrible the man did find himself fairly startled by both her appearance and sudden existence in his afternoon.

Zuri nodded firmly. "I am well. It didn't hit me." Even if it had made contact, it surely wouldn't have hurt. Still, she appreciated the concern. It was pleasant. Assuming his question meant that the coast was clear, she started walking up the steps... her legs slowing down slightly when she realized the scrutiny she was under. Cheeks flushing dark, she raised her chin stiffly and marched her way up the rest of the steps. "It's rude to stare," she quipped sharply, though her own gaze lingered on the man's unique features as well now that she was closer.

A breath of relief left Faisal's lips. At least he hadn't harmed the child with his carelessness. Though she did continue to surprise him by marching up the stairs and confronting him. Faisal found himself blinking before letting out a chuckle. "It is, isn't it?" He mused before giving a slight nod of his head. "My apologies for staring but I could not help but to study someone I had never seen before. Do you live in the city?" His gaze was gentle despite his initial shock at seeing such a strange hybrid. She was just a child and Faisal fully understood what it was like to be a hybrid in the largest city of Oba after all. Why should he make her life any harder and complicated than it surely already was? Though she did seem well dressed and with plenty of attitude to make him assume that her parents were taking good care of her.

The agreement and the apology were a relief, to say the least. Many that she stood up to would get angry or embarrassed, but he seemed to just acknowledge it. Perhaps it was because he was also a hybrid of sorts? Whatever it was, she just gave a light nod of her own acknowledgement and sighed dismissively. "You are excused this time. ..Yes, I live in the city with my mothers. I like to visit the garden though." She had intended to pass on by after the scolding, but found herself remaining still. "Do you live nearby then?"

Faisal raised a brow at the response but he didn't say anything. It was rare for someone to give him such a noble treatment of sorts, especially from such a young hybrid girl, but he wasn't offended. If anything he was amused by it. "Your mothers?" He questioned before nodding slowly. "Is one an Alkidike?" Though he had never seen Alkidikes with curly antennae like that before so maybe it was something else? Faisal found himself curious about all of the new traits he had never seen before in one little, proud bundle. The question brought his focus back to their conversation and the man found himself nodding. "I wanted some fresh air and wandered down this way. I like the view from the wall here and it's only a short walk from my home." If anything he could only imagine how the youngling would take to his home with its maze of flowers and hedges that made up one of the largest gardens in the city. His grandmother and mother adored flowers and had taken a lot of effort to keep the estate's gardens flourishing. Faisal was beginning to think it was a good idea to do so since so many he met enjoyed the gardens and perhaps he was realizing how much he had taken it for granted since growing up with such comforts.

Well, while she wasn't exactly pleased with the outright question, it was better than the simple 'what are you' guff she usually got. "We are of the Aishans. Mama Hilly is Elarian. Alkidike have green hands." She smiled lightly and held out her arm to show off the soft pink tone. Though she was rather opposite from her Elarian mother, there was still much love and pride in their relationship.

She looked back over to the garden and smiled. "I want one of these all for myself and my family one day. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have your own private garden?"

"Ah." Faisal nodded at the explanation. "I'm not too familiar with all of the Aishans, my apologies." He admitted almost sheepishly as he realized he had been enlightened by a child. It wasn't as if the Aishans did a lot of dealings with their society, but he still felt as if he should have known a little bit more about the other races. Earthlings, yes. Aishans...not so much. He thought though he did have to smile at the gesture, his gaze lingering on the different colored tone. Then he supposed the curled antenna were also an Elarian trait like the pink.

"It would be..." Faisal found himself agreeing almost guiltily. "But I suppose I should admit that my family does have their own gardens." The hybrid rubbed the back of his neck as he glanced towards the child. Should he? Would it even be appropriate to invite a youngling to the manor without notifying the parents? Faisal definitely was not accustomed to dealing with children and it was fairly obvious even now as he tried to navigate what was acceptable and wouldn't' send anyone's family into a panic. "The manor is in the upper district but my grandmother brought in flowers from all over the mainland that she constantly worked with. There's an elaborate fountain with depictions of the goddesses that she had custom made for the gardens."

Zuri found herself smiling a little and nodded. "It's alright. Mama Cu says it's never too late to learn, and Mama Hilly says that Elarians are new to visiting here. She was born on Yael with all the other Elarians." It was certainly a complex history that the Alkidike women had... but she was ready for the next step to come in the acceptance of others like her.

Mention of the gardens made her eyes widen, and she looked the man up and down again. He had a garden like this? Was he rich then? The description of the garden had Zuri's eyes sparkling with awe. "It sounds lovely," she said with a sigh. "Is it private? Would you let me visit with my mothers?" Was she inviting herself? She cleared her throat and stepped back bashfully. "I'm sure it's private. My apologies."

"Fair enough." Faisal smiled at the polite response before the obvious excitement brought even more warmth to his expression. She truly was that excited over a garden? Faisal blinked thoughtfully before frowning at her sudden bashfulness. What was this? What happened to the outspoken youngling? "Private to strangers perhaps." The swordsman teased playfully before holding out a hand towards the youngling. "So I suppose it would be best to introduce ourselves if you'd like to visit one day. I'm Faisal and you are?"

Zuri looked at the offered hand with confusion, and then delight with realization. With a big smile, she reached out in a delicately feminine manner to accept the hand. "My name is Zuribali. It's a pleasure to meet you, Faisal. I promise we will be the best guests you'll ever have to your garden!" Had she really gotten a new place to visit? How wonderful! The trio kept a fairly tight social circle, and she was well excited to be expanding that circle. Already she was thinking of what might be an appropriate gift to bring for the trip... "Mama Cu grew up in the upper district. I am certain she will be able to follow directions to your garden easily."

Faisal chuckled as he took the hand and shook it lightly in greeting. "I'll hold you to that, Zuribali." He replied before letting go and studying her again with a small smile. "That sounds good. I'm certain if you go up the hill that you'll find the manor towards the left with the ornate gates that have the symbol of the crossed blades before a sun." The swordsman gave a nod before thinking about things. "Is there anything in particular that you'd like to see in a garden? My family keeps a greenhouse as well that has plants from all of the neighboring countries, even some of the glowing vines that one usually only finds in Jahaur." Faisal felt like he was bragging slightly but if the youngling was truly interested then he simply was sharing what she could find at his home. If anything his grandmother would be delighted to have such a young guest though he did hope that she didn't take it to heart by encouraging him more about having little ones of his own one day.

Zuri cocked her head slightly, curls swaying with the motion. "I guess.. no. There isn't anything in particular. I just enjoy being anywhere with a lot of plants. It's nice since most places around here don't have much to look at." There was a brief pause, and she gasped gently. "Oh, I like the ones with the flowers!" She grinned up at the man hopefully. "Does your family have ones with flowers? Maybe those glowing ones?"

"Glowing flowers?" Faisal chuckled before nodding. "We have a greenhouse that's especially for low light plants and some of them do glow. We even had an artisan craft glass orbs that float in a pond there, they glow at night with the lights reflected from the plants." Faisal grinned. "If you had more time I could show you even today since I'm around and don't have meetings." It would be nice to take time to get away from his thoughts for the moment. He would gladly show around a horde of younglings as long as they were polite and well-behaved like Zuribali was. Maybe he could get some insights from her on how to appease a lady? Faisal was mostly joking but at the same time he wondered if he should ask. Weren't younglings usually brutally honest after all?
