Quiana had hoped for another lazy day. The Elidae had tried to take a nap along the beach, but the sudden appearance of storm clouds ruined her sunlight and made her doubt the possibility of a calm afternoon. So with a sigh she had gathered up her satchel and started the long walk towards the home she shared with her grandmother. Thankfully it was away from the main encampment so that she could still hope for a quiet day without anyone bothering her about training or the like. Quiana also did not feel like hunting more since she had already helped gather some fish and oysters this morning for tonight's dinner. She wasn't much of one for the community hunts anyway since they required too much effort from her. It was much simpler to leave a net in the nearby stream and then return after a while to see what she had caught.
For now she was content just picking her way through a local cove that had some deeper areas of water. It was here that she could find shells and the like to gather as well. Quiana just hoped the weather would hold out while she walked back home, but already she was beginning to feel a few fat drops of rain as the clouds started to gather more over the area.

Devika found herself standing in the rain on what had just been a small river bank that she had remembered. She had been tasked on gathering a few things for the group and pointed towards a location they had visited previously. And yet, as she made their way there, she found a small river that she did not remember being quite as large...or deep. Had the rains filled it? Was this area prone to flooding? Would she even be able to find the things she needed? Devika sighed as she looked at the river with thinly veiled dislike as she tried to ponder her options. "Should I turn around and go home or try and find these ingredients still..." She said aloud. [Devika 1]

"I mean do whatever you'd like." Quipped Quiana from behind. The Elaria had been walking further along the cove when she spotted the stranger and a thoughtful frown crossed her lips. Honestly at this point she didn't know whether she should be surprised or frustrated at this point. How many strangers would keep appearing on her relaxing days like this? Should she just find another way around to avoid spending time with another when the rains were starting? But no that would just make her trip home take even more time and would require some climbing if she took the cliffs. It was much easier to walk forward and perhaps find out something interesting from the stranger if necessary, she did find herself curious after all. A soft sigh left her lips as she walked towards the girl, her movements slowing when she realized that this was an earthling and not one of the fishlings. She didn't have gills, right? Quiana found herself tilting her head with interest as she studied the foreigner. "Either way you shouldn't go too far towards the west since there's a bunch of Aishans who wouldn't take too kindly to an intruder." She found herself warning finally as she found her voice again. "You're not from around here, correct?" Was that the best way to ask if one was an earthling or not? Quiana frowned since it was confusing to see someone with finned ears that didn't have scales or gills like the locals who lived deep within the nearby ocean.

The voice behind her made her jump and spin around. She had been so busy giving the water the death stare that she hadn't been paying attention to her surroundings. Her muscles tensed at the young woman's comments. Devi had remembered someone telling her about an Aishan establishment not too far away but apparently it seemed as if it might be closer than she thought. They'd described the aishans to her and it appeared as if this one in front of her was one of the newer kind. That thought only caused her muscles to tense more with the girl's probing questions. Would she consider Devika to be tresspassing? Did she need to be prepared to fight? "No, I'm not..." She said wearily. Should she mention she was traveling with others or would that just put her group at risk for an attack if this aishan was hostile? [Devika 2]

"Thought so." Quiana moved her head back and forth as she studied the stranger. "You don't have scales or gils like the fishlings I've seen before...so are you an earthling?" She found herself asking as she took a step closer, her arms crossing thoughtfully. Her bow was strapped across her back with a quiver of arrows but she made no move towards them. Thankfully for the stranger Quiana was not like most of her sisters and had a more laid back attitude towards life. What was the point in causing a fight without even trying to get to know what was going on first? Nor did she have a deep loathing of earthlings or the fishlings. They were just interesting creatures to her that perhaps did not have the same level of strengths as the Aishans. If anything she did not want to chase off the stranger since she was interested about who or what she was and why she was even here in the first place.
"Either way I'm not here to fight unless you want trouble." Admitted Quiana as she thought about things a bit more. "The ones who would maybe want to fight are further towards the west like I warned so I wouldn't go that way." She wasn't even worried about giving away hints about their encampment. Why would she when she trusted her sisters to be able to handle a few earthlings?

Devika relaxed a little at their omission that she did not want to fight. At least she wouldn't have to worry about that for the time being. "I am an earthling, I come from Matori." She admitted to the inquisitive girl. "I was supposed to go that way to gather a few things for dinner as well as some of my potion making but perhaps I should come back another day..." With others, she thought, and when the water wasn't so high. "And you? You're clearly an aishan as well, but I've never met one that wasn't....green." She said simply and hopefully not insultingly. She'd heard of the Elaria from her brother but they were supposed to be a grey and red...not like this. Devi couldn't deny that she thought all the tones looked so intriguing. [Devika 3]

"Matori." Repeated Quiana, her expression shifting as she recalled the name as something she had heard before, "That's on the big continent with a lot of other earthling countries, right?" That was so far away! She knew about Belrea because it was closer and a lot of the Sisters had mentioned the continent of orange and green haired earthilngs towards the north before. She had never heard about ones with finned ears though that was probably because not many of the Sisters took the time to describe them and a lot of the Elaria had only ever seen Yaeli before. They had floppy ears with purple hair apparently. Either way Quiana found herself focusing back on the stranger. "You came all the way from Matori to make potions?" She asked with confusion before laughing at the stranger's observation.
"I guess that's because my kind recently bloomed just on this island. We're known as Elidae and I'm assuming the green Aishans are the Alkidikes like my grandmother." Explained Quiana as she uncrossed her arms and stretched them out towards the stranger as if showing off her markings and the tint on her skin. "Do all earthlings look so different from one another? I've heard about the Yaeli but I never could imagine what one looked like until meeting you. Honestly I thought you may have been a fishling because of your ears at first."

"Mhmm" Devika said as she nodded her head. "There's matori, Oba, Juahar, Tale, Sauti, Zena." At her second question, Devika laughed slightly. "No, not at all. I traveled for my brother. He wanted to come here and wanted me to come with him. So I'm trying to enjoy it and make the best of it." Devi took a few moments to digest the information that the girl told her next. "I see...Elidae." She repeated the species name. It was strange but cool at the same time. "Yes, we vary a lot more than I know the aishans to. Even among your own...uh....sisters you call them right? Even among your own people your skin tones or hair color don't vary much right? With us earthlings, you could have two Obans who look drastically different." It was strange how things were, but who was she to contemplate the greater meanings in life? [Devika 4]

SABRA "So many." Quiana could only shake her head in disbelief before the next statement added to her confusion. "Brother? That's right...earthlings have different genders." She repeated as she recalled some of the stories told by her grandmother. Then a brother would be the other version of an earthling? Did they look completely different from their sisters? So many questions! She found herself nodding before listening to the explanation with interest. "There's other ways that we vary. Once you've been around Aishans for so long you'll realize that we have our own unique appearances...perhaps not in colors like you earthlings but still." She thought of her own markings and how different those were from many of the other Elidae she knew who had their own unique markings as well.
"Regardless..." She began as she waved her hand as if to dismiss the million questions floating about in her mind concerning the earthlings and their strangeness. The most important part was that she was actually speaking to one right now in her home! "Why would your brother come here to all places? Is he looking to pick a fight?" She found herself wondering as she focused back on the matter at hand. Why was this stranger here out of all places? Of course it didn't help matters that the sky above them roared with thunder, more raindrops starting to fall from the sky with the sudden noise. My luck is seriously not with me today. Quiana groaned quietly under her breath as she glanced upwards as the darkening skies.

Devika found it hard to think of a world in which they had only sisters and no brothers, she loved hers dearly and couldn't imagine life without him. "I see..." She hadn't spent that much time around Aishans to know what kind of differences they might have but it would make sense. "That's good though, you wouldn't want to be just like everyone else, right?" She said with a smile. "My brother travels for a few different reasons; because he enjoys traveling and for his employer. With a job so far from home he had wanted me to come with him and while I was apprehensive I still tagged along. I'm glad I did but there have been some..." She paused and looked at all the water around them "Downsides." [Devika 5]

There was a flash of concern when she listened to the explanation. What did one come all the way over here to do though? She still hadn't found an exact answer behind the earthlings' coming to this particular area and to hear that there may be more made her curious. How many others did this Matori come with? Quiana pursed her lips before the next commentary made her stop. "Downsides? The water?" She pieced together by the pointed look at the water. "Are you having trouble because of the water? I know it's raining now but....well actually it may be dangerous soon. You should probably cross back towards your camp and get away from the deeper areas of the cove." It had rained a lot lately and it could rise quickly, especially depending on the tide, and Quiana found herself actually worried. Did she investigate the earthlings more or go home? Her green gaze darted upwards and she chewed the inside of her cheek thoughtfully. Damn her curiosity. She would also get in trouble now if a horde of earthlings approached their encampment without her finding out more first.
"I suppose...since the weather is getting bad I could offer my help." She started slowly as she considered her options. "If water is your downside then getting stuck in the middle of a flooded forest may not be a fun time for you." That way Quiana could make certain the earthling wasn't trying anything suspicious and she could get an idea of the earthling encampment. Surely that should work out, right?

"uhhh...Yeahhh..." She said slowly, dragging the words out. She didn't want to have to cross anything but she had been warned that things could flood quickly, there was just no where for the water to go so it would always accumulate on what little ground there was. Devi couldn't help but be a little weary of the Elidae's help but at this point, could beggars be choosers? Making up her mind, she nodded. "I had to cross a, well what had been a small river that had only gone up to my knees but I fear the water has risen with this rain...I...can swim but I need to keep my head above water..." She decided to not elaborate further than that. There was no need and she didn't owe this stranger an explanation anyhow. "It's not too far after that. We can dry off and wait out the rain there if you need. I'm not sure of the travel conditions between there and where you need to go but I'd never send anyone out in dangerous situations." [Devika 6]

Quiana studied the earthling thoughtfully before nodding. "Fair enough. If we walk a bit further along the cliffs it does turn into a smaller stream that should be easy enough to cross." Her antenna flicked as more rain continued to drop around them, the heavy drops splashing into the water. The Elidae didn't know how anyone would take to her spending time with an earthling, but did it matter if they never found out? Just gathering viable information. She noted to herself before starting to walk through the taller grasses, cutting a path towards where the cove would narrow into a stream for them to cross. It was probably what the earthling had referenced and Quiana could only hope that the rain wouldn't swell it too quickly. "Quiana, by the way." She offered as she pushed back some heavy vines and continued walking. She assumed earthlings had names as well and it would only be expected to share names if they were spending at least an afternoon together.

"Okay.." Devika said a little hessitantly. As the Elildae started moving, Devi tried her best to stay behind the other girl and only stepping where she did, or close to it. She didn't think it would be a very good idea if she stepped off the path to find herself falling into some hidden hole full of water. "It's nice to meet you, Quiana." She said politely yet never moving her gaze from the other girl's footprints. "I'm Devika. You seem pretty sure footed here, do you travel here often?" [Devika 7]

"Do I travel often?" An amused laugh escaped Quiana as she glanced back towards Devika. "Elidae were treated as sacred treasures when we were children so we never have left the isles truly. I do wander about these islands though to the best of my ability now that we're older and can do more. I enjoy seeing what I can find and you never know when you'll stumble into an earthling during a storm." She wasn't even certain she would ever get to see all of the countries that her grandmother had told her about. Other Aishans had a lot of bias against the earthlings but her grandmother was kinder and none could doubt the beauty of the nature found in all of these foreign places. Quiana would love to see some of those forests, mountains or even the deserts as described by the older Alkidike, but she knew most were happy living here instead. Eventually her steps slowed and she held out a hand to keep Devika from accidentally walking into a rising pool of water. "Looks like the rains are already doing their work...do you want to try crossing here?" She asked glancing back towards the earthling. The rain only seemed to be coming down harder and the last thing they wanted was to be stuck climbing the cliffs instead of crossing over towards more solid ground.
