yum_tea I know, it sounds strange, but is anyone else aware of the death positivity movement? No, it doesn't advocate for the death of humans, but is instead a social and philosophical movement that posits that death is natural and inevitable, and the fear and denial of death does more harm than good to both individuals and society at large. Comprised mostly of death professionals such as morticians, end of life caregivers, and grief counselors, the death positive movement seeks to break down taboos and fears surrounding death so that people can better come to terms with loss and to take charge of their own end of life planning. Advocacy for LGBTQ+ identities to be respected in death as in life, green burial, transparency in pricing for funerary goods and services, and preservation of traditional funeral customs are all part of the work the movement does.

What do you think? Are you death positive?

I am not part of any movement, but I do have a positive attitude and have always handled death well. I've never had trouble accepting it as a part of life, though I know it's a struggle for many who were raised in sheltered, suburban households.

Yeah it's a relatively new term, but the basic concept has been around for ages. Also did you intern as a part of mortician training, or?

Yeah I remember looking into becoming a mortician once thinking "well we always need people to take care of the dead, and I'm not easily bothered by death" but I read it's a pretty tough industry.

i just wasn't where i needed to be lol. i was the youngest by at least 6 or 7 years in my program. they were all great fun and the funeral cohort classes were great and i got a's in all of them, it was all those awful other classes like basic math and sciences i truly hated. even medical terminology class wasn't that bad. but that school had a truly great sculpture/arts department and so i ******** around there for a while lol.
i still think it's something i could persue, but like people were mid 30's going into the field and much better about keeping their personal appearances basic and professional. (tho pretty much everyone was goth or familiar/accepting of that subculture/lifestyle looooooo)
i hope some of them are still around i really liked them (and their parties) lol
