yum_tea I know, it sounds strange, but is anyone else aware of the death positivity movement? No, it doesn't advocate for the death of humans, but is instead a social and philosophical movement that posits that death is natural and inevitable, and the fear and denial of death does more harm than good to both individuals and society at large. Comprised mostly of death professionals such as morticians, end of life caregivers, and grief counselors, the death positive movement seeks to break down taboos and fears surrounding death so that people can better come to terms with loss and to take charge of their own end of life planning. Advocacy for LGBTQ+ identities to be respected in death as in life, green burial, transparency in pricing for funerary goods and services, and preservation of traditional funeral customs are all part of the work the movement does.
