It had been almost a week since Jhin had returned from patrol. Kyril was still staying in the village despite her ankle recovering well and others were starting to catch on that the ranger was a bit closer to the hybrid than expected. Still, no one in the village seemed to protest and if anything he found himself receiving more help than ever before from the others. The memorial ceremony between them for Yaloh had given Jhin courage to pursue Kyril instead of pushing her away. So now while she spent mornings with the healer, checking on her ankle, and then learning things about baking from Myra the wind earthling was up to his own plans.
She had been so proud of her glasswork that Jhin didn’t want her to lose any of that. Nor did he want to make her feel like she didn’t have a place within the village. With his aunt returning in the near future the ranger was afraid that Kyril would feel displaced and want to return to Matori sooner than planned. Well, technically she was supposed to be returning soon but Kyril had decided to try staying through the winter so that she didn’t risk her ankle and other things - something which had definitely lifted Jhin’s spirits. So now Jhin stood outside of a large building at the edge of the village, the stone building abandoned ages ago. “I think it’s ready.”

Kyril hummed happily as she tugged on a tunic she had borrowed from Myra. The simple material felt nice against her skin and was a lot easier to wear in comparison to her dresses and Belrean outfits, something that Kyril still enjoyed wearing but was currently avoiding due to her injuries. A month in the forest had allowed her to heal nicely, most of her bruising and cuts were long since faded with only the busted ankle and some sprained ribs remaining to fully heal. Now where had Jhin ventured off towards? Kyril pursed her lips thoughtfully before grabbing her walking stick and venturing outside so that she could find the ranger. When she did finally find him the hybrid found herself pausing in surprise. “What’s ready?”

“Kyril!” Jhin nearly jumped before holding out his hand as if to push her back. Then after a moment he slowly lowered his hand with a sigh. “Well I suppose now is a good time.” The ranger smiled towards Kyril, reaching out to take her other hand before tugging her after him. “There was an old cabin here long ago, a really nice big stone building that someone had built along the edges of the stream.” He wasn’t certain if it had been a ranger or someone connected to one, but the building was solid and just in need of some repairs. “I was thinking that you may want to use it.”

“Oh?” Kyril blinked with surprise as she glanced around. “You know, for an old abandoned place it looks rather neat.” She accused Jhin with a raised brow. So this was what he had been up to in the mornings all week? The hybrid shook her head before walking forward so that she could try the door. The house wasn’t completely built into the upper branches like the other homes and was made of stone with large open rooms where she could set up a workshop. Was that what he had been thinking? If she used the open area outback that still had some standing walls she could easily get a furnace set up for any of the hotter fires that she needed for molding the glass pieces.

“I may have cleaned it and patched up a few places.” Admitted Jhin as he watched Kyril walking around. He had repaired the roof, cleaned out the dirt from the stone floors and gotten help adding new wooden boards around the exterior to create a gazebo-like area if Kyril preferred working outside with the furnace. “It may have been a piece of something bigger from centuries ago.” He admitted as he looked around at the stone structure. It definitely was out of place from the rest of the village. Still, it was nice knowing he had a non-flammable place to offer Kyril for her work.” It wasn’t too far of a walk from his place either.

“It’s great.” Kyril replied as she went back towards Jhin again. “Thank you.” The hybrid found herself smiling as she already imagined how it could be decorated. There was plenty of space to even store her belongings and work. Could she actually manage a workshop here? Would that be wise? Kyril chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully. “Is everyone else okay with this being used for my art?”

Jhin nodded. “In all honesty I think this belongs to my family even though everyone is delighted about the idea of giving you the area for work.” He shrugged almost casually. It would be fine since his Aunt never used the area. There was a second level of the home as well with a large room that overlooked the stream which could be converted into a bedroom. Myra and some of the others had already helped him set up a bed with feathered quilts with colorful tapestries decorating the walls. The fireplace had been cleaned out for the colder months and he had even set up a small table, vanity and other necessities for Kyril.

“Oh?” Kyril blinked with surprise before nodding. It only made sense that the head of the rangers would own some extra land. She was just touched that everyone seemed so eager to set it up for her. “I feel like I’m getting bribed to stay here longer.” She teased lightly as she glanced towards Jhin with amusement. She just hoped that when his aunt returned that she would be as welcoming as the rest. It was a pretty area though. Kyril enjoyed how the stream was nearby and this area of the clearing was more open to allow plenty of light for when she was working outside. It would be the perfect area for working during the fall mornings.

“Perhaps.” Replied Jhin with a chuckle before offering his arm so that he could escort Kyril around the premises. “I want to work on this area and turn it into a kitchen and a family room…” His words trailed off almost sheepishly as he glanced towards Kyril. It almost sounded like he was trying to sell a house for them to settle in together and the words family made him pause. “I mean it would be beneficial for anyone needing the space, right?” And now it sounded like he was ready to just have her leave. Great.

A small smile crossed Kyril’s lips as she followed Jhin along. “A family room, hmm?” She teased even though the words had made her own heart flutter. They had been spending the last week together a lot closer than before and just the thought of family made her cheeks flush. “I suppose you’re right though that whoever takes over when I’m gone would enjoy the developed space.”

Jhin glanced away, his lips pursing in a rare pout. “I would rather you stay.” He murmured as he dared to peek back towards the woman at his side. “Maybe it is a bribe to see if you would like to actually stay the full winter or longer.” He coughed almost shyly into his hand before looking back towards the stairs. Could she manage them yet? If not he would have to set up a bed down here. Thankfully the kitchen would have another fireplace to keep the stone building warm, a perk of not being built directly into a tree like the other houses. Though the idea of her continuing to stay in his room was definitely preferable. At least until his Aunt came back and then they would see what happened.

“Oh?” Kyril raised a playful brow, “I’m sorry what was that?” She teased as she moved closer so that she could try to get a good look at Jhin’s face. “You would rather me leave?” The young mystic grinned at Jhin, her happiness showing in her bright expression. Her heart felt so full since spending the last week together and seeing that he had gone to the trouble of making a space for her truly touched Kyril’s heart. If she had known getting nearly killed by bandits would find her someone like this then she would have ventured into this forest years ago! Kyril had always watched her parents and even her brother now had someone he loved, but she had never truly gotten to experience the feeling for herself until now.

“You know better than that.” Replied Jhin with a frown. “If anything I’d rather you just stay in the forest and not return to Matori, but that’s greedy.” He admitted with a flush decorating his cheeks. Kyril was so good at teasing him and bringing the truth from his lips, but honestly he didn’t mind it. “Should I show you upstairs?” He asked as he glanced towards the stone steps leading away from the area intended to be the kitchen.

“Most certainly though…” Kyril took one step after him before wincing. “It’s a bit awkward with the staff.” Her lips pressed into a frown as she tried to figure out the best way to venture upstairs. Jhin had obviously put a lot of work into things so she wanted to see it all. The kitchen looked like it would be a homey spot and she could honestly already imagine getting the fireplace working again and making bread and the like. Soup eventually as well once she learned more from Myra. She found herself glancing around before sudden movement surprised her and she found herself being lifted by a pair of strong arms. “Jhin!”

“It won’t be the first time I’ve carried you.” Jhin smiled as he carried Kyril up the short flight of steps. He took a moment before finally releasing her on the second floor, the large stone room looking considerably more decorated and brighter than the empty space below. There was a bay window overlooking the stream, the glass needing repairs but he had a feeling that wouldn’t be an issue with Kyril involved. “It’s still a work in progress but if you did need a place to call your own this would be it.”
