Name: Mary Prudence Gough (pronounced goff) Nicknames: She hates her first name, so she goes by Prudence, her middle name (her maternal grandmother's name), sometimes shortened to Pru. Pronouns: she/her Age: 21 Birthday: 31 December 2000
Occupation: Motorcycle mechanic/welder at Star City Iron Works custom motorcycle shop.
Hobbies:
Her Motorcycle -- Her baby! Prudence rides a big ol' bumblebee-yellow chopped Harley Softail she customized herself, a much bigger motorcycle than one might expect a diminutive woman to be able to handle. She loves the speed and thrill of riding, of course, but she loves the solitude too, just her and her bike with the wind in her face. She also loves the "going no place at all" sense of riding for the sake of riding and will go on rides to nowhere just because she can. Tinkering on it is a favorite pastime of hers too, fine-tuning and tweaking how it works (and looks).
Audio Books -- Whoever invented audio books is her hero. They make it so much easier to keep up with her favorite authors while doing other things, like working or knitting. Prudence's preferred genre is mythic fiction/urban fantasy, authors like Emma Bull and Charles deLint. She loves the idea of crossing the line between ordinary reality and the fantastical, that something magical is waiting just around the corner. She is typically seen wearing her big studio headphones while working, listening to a book, only taking them off when she has to put on her welding mask to weld something.
Knitting -- Everybody gets scarves and gloves and cozy socks for Christmas. Prudence finds knitting relaxing, almost meditative, even though she can easily focus on other things like listening to a book or carrying on a conversation while knitting. She enjoys the cognitive dissonance of a punky little thing like her doing something as girly as knitting. She doesn't follow patterns much at all, preferring to make up her own designs from visual references; she's knitted enough that she knows how to do something like knit socks pretty much from memory and feel. And she takes requests.
Pros:
Bulldog Persistent -- Prudence is possessed of a dogged determination and tenacity. She's a small fierce terrier who won't stop working on a task until she has accomplished it, even long after she should have just given up (it becomes a matter of principle at that point). A willful, obstinate little thing, this definitely plays in her favor -- if you want s**t done, she gets s**t done. Nothing is really too impossible for her to tackle once she's got the notion in her head of doing it. This is why she's the one who usually gets sicced on truculent locked-up bolts at work.
Happy Go Lucky Good-Natured -- Prudence has a generally happy disposition, though she is happiest when she is working on a bike. She's not exactly what you'd call a people person, but she doesn't dislike people; she's friendliest with her colleagues and people she knows. Luckily it's pretty easy to become her friend, as she's quite approachable, with a ready smile and quick laugh. No grumpy gus, she has a dry, whimsical sense of humor that sometimes goes over one's head. She loves to tell stories of the small coastal Oregon town where she was born.
What Does This Button Do? Inquisitive -- Curious as a cat, she wants to know ALL THE THINGS. Prudence loves nothing more than poking at mysteries, sticking her nose in unexplored places and shaking the box to try to figure out what's inside. She is quick to pick through knotty problems, patiently studying them and analyzing them until she can take them apart and find out how they tick. She loves learning new things and is a quick study, even (and especially) when she is studying on her own. And her patience usually pays off -- she's always finding new mysteries to pick apart.
Cons:
You're Not The Boss of Me Contrary -- With Prudence, it's always Opposites Day. She is contrary as anything and will deliberately do what she's told she can't or shouldn't do just to show 'em (this is the best method to get her to do something, by the way, tell her she can't or shouldn't do it). Especially if the alleged reason she can't or shouldn't do it is because she's a girl. She never accepts things at face value and has to try it/find out for herself. She was one of those little kids who always asked "WHY?" and drove everyone nuts. She still does.
Micromanager Control Freak -- Oh, how Prudence hates relinquishing control. It's why she learned how to be a motorcycle mechanic in the first place, because she didn't trust anyone else to work on her bike to her satisfaction. The girl can't stand not being in charge of a project. She likes to control a task from start to finish, and if she requires help on something she will hover and supervise and drive you up the wall. She'd actually much rather do it herself (and so would everyone else, pretty much). Needless to say, she makes her boss and co-workers crazy sometimes.
Whatcha Doing? Nosy -- This is the downside of her being so inquisitive. Prudence wants to know ALL THE THINGS about what's going on in your life and will poke you and prod you til she gets answers. She's quite patient -- she knows she'll wear you down eventually and you'll spill the beans. She's not a gossip, so your secrets are safe with her, but she's still an impossible busybody who will stick her nose in anyone and everyone's business if she gets even the slightest hint that something is going on that she's not in on.
General Appearance Eyes: Turquoise blue, almond-shaped, wide-set and bright. She rarely wears any makeup.
Hair: Bright red, long and loosely wavy down past her shoulders with heavy shaggy fringe, cropped close on the left side.
Face: Prudence's face is mostly round, with a pert nose and average mouth, chin and ears. She's clear-skinned and lightly tanned from riding her motorcycle without a helmet.
Body: Pru is a small girl, standing at about 5'2" and built petite and delicate as a china doll. Her delicate looks are deceptive, though. She is surprisingly strong for her small size, and can muscle a stubborn bolt or wrestle her big Harley around with relative ease, mostly by sheer willfulness and throwing her entire body into it.
Clothes: Pru dresses like a boy refugee from the late 60s. She prefers to wear vintage second-hand t-shirts or tanks with clever slogans or band logos on them, ripped-up and patched jeans, and soft calf-high hippie boots and knit neckscarves even in summer. When she's riding her bike, she adds big steel-toe combat boots and a black motorcycle jacket with cords and s**t hanging off the shoulders, littered with pins and buttons and patches. For work, she wears a short-sleeved black Dickies work shirt that's way too big for her over a plain tank top and grease-stained jeans along with the combat boots.

Attacks: Sailor Scout Attack: Minefield Hazard For this attack, Antlia creates a handful of balls of energy (about 3) and scatters them to submerge into the ground during a battle in the path of her opponent. If/when the enemy steps on one, it pops up like an underwater mine and explodes. The force of the explosion knocks the enemy back several feet and can do mild bashing damage. Duration: 15 seconds/1 post (kaboom) AoE: 10 feet from Antlia (the area of spread of the mines), single target Uses: up to 3 times per day Super Sailor Scout Attack: Minefield Danger For this attack, Antlia creates several balls of energy (about 5) and scatters them to submerge into the ground in a closely-packed spread in the path of her opponent. during a battle. If/when the enemy steps on one, it pops up like an underwater mine and explodes. The force of the explosion knocks the enemy back several feet and can do moderate bashing damage; if they land on another mine, it too explodes. Duration: 30 seconds/2 posts; 1st post kaboom, 2nd post fallout from explosion/subsequent explosion AoE: 15 feet from Antlia (the area of spread of the mines), one or more targets Uses: up to 3 times per dayEternal Sailor Attack: Fire Torpedoes! For this attack, Antlia physically submerges herself into the ground and, using an energy periscope, locates and approaches her target. Once she is within range, she bursts out of the ground like a submarine breaching the waves; holding out her arms, she shouts the attack name and a massive energy torpedo fires off of each arm, striking Antlia's target and exploding. The force of the torpedo explosion knocks the enemy back several feet and does severe bashing damage. Duration: 45 seconds/3 posts; 1st post submerge, 2nd post fire torpedoes, 3rd post kaboom AoE: 20 feet from Antlia, single target Uses: once per day

BACKGROUND DETAILS
Timeline
2000: Prudence born in Seaside, Oregon to Roger and Eleanor Gough 2017: graduates high school; instead of going to university in Portland, Pru goes to a local trade school to learn welding and motorcycle repair 2018: buys and modifies her own motorcycle, with only a little help from her parents 2019: sets off on a solo cross country tour; is on the road for a full year 2020: settles in Mayet; gets a job as a welder and mechanic at Star City Iron Works 2021: present day
Born and raised in the little coastal town of Seaside, Oregon, Prudence's childhood was incredibly uneventful. A quiet, inquisitive girl, she was a model child even into her early teens, keeping out of trouble (though she constantly questioned everything) and reading her books. The fact that she was such a good girl was somewhat remarkable, given that her dad Roger is a retired Army Ranger and her mom Eleanore a former ER nurse, and both of them are bikers and Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. They didn't seem to have much influence on her, or so they thought; the only notable things she took away from her parents was a love of big chopped Harley motorcycles, her red hair, and knitting.
Pru didn't become rebellious and willful until her late teens, when instead of going off to university in Portland after high school she went to the local trade school to learn welding and motorcycle repair. She stubbornly insisted on buying and modifying her own motorcycle, and did so with minimal help from her dad. Once she got the bike done she took off at 19 to tour the country; she was on the road for a year, and finally settled in Mayet with an Audible account, the left side of her head shaved and the desire to get proper work. And by 'proper work' she meant as a welder.
She got in on the ground floor of a newly-opened custom motorcycle garage, Star City Iron Works, and has been there ever since as a welder and mechanic. Her parents are so proud of her.

ETC Prudence absolutely loves burgers, the bigger and juicier and messier the better. She will pile all the stuff they put on the side onto a burger and add bacon and avocado to make it even more awesome. It amazes her co-workers how big a burger she can put away for such a petite girl -- she's been known to win bets on whether or not she would be able to eat a particularly large burger. Her buddies clean up, because they know to always bet on Pru.
Chocolate, on the other hand, isn't food. Pru never developed a fondness for the stuff -- she thinks it tastes like sweetened dirt. Bleh.
When she's not listening to audiobooks while she works, Pru listens to music. And her tastes in music are eclectic, to say the least. She enjoys the Beatles a lot, especially their later songs, as well as other bands from the late 60s time period. At the same time, she loves 70s prog rock with a passion; the music is big and bombastic and excessive and majestic and fun! And she loves filk (good filk, at least), like Leslie Fish and Heather Alexander (now Alexander Adams) and Annwn, among others.
