It was the last of the food trucks to show up and it seemed to make the grandest entrance. There would have been fanfare if they'd been permitted to use speakers to play their theme -- out of courtesy to the other vendors they weren't -- but the brightly colored dancing lights were something, weren't they?
WEREN'T THEY?
A red carpet was rolled out between a set of picnic tables and a portly gentleman in a black bowler hat with a well groomed handlebar mustache stepped out. He waited until a small crowd had gathered to see what the fuss was, ignoring that he'd interrupted several people who had been enjoying their fare from one of the other fine food trucks. He removed his thick, black-framed glasses, tucking them into his front pocket only to swap them out for the square pair that the Mrs said made him look sharp.
He patted around for a moment before pulling a microphone out of the bag strapped to his back, tapping it lightly before turning it upside-down to make sure it was on.
"Hello, hello! I yam so glad to have you all here with us today! We've been trying to hash out some things behind the scenes in order to bring you a spud-tacular special event for this year's County Fair! Think you might be a mash for what we're looking for? Wedge yourself in line and SIGN UP TODAY for our semi-annual competition!
Can you take on the mountain? There's only one way to find out!"
Without saying anything else he flipped the microphone off, tipping it back into his bag and snapping it shut. He didn't stick around to answer questions but he did disappear back into the truck, hitting a button that dropped down a banner with information on how one could go about signing up for the eating competition.

This was Mehri's time to shine. It didn't matter if it was a contest or not - Mehri never cared if things were contests - because it was all you could eat. For free. Mehri loved eating, she loved when eating was all you could eat, and she loved it even more if she didn't have to pay for it. With the arrival and announcement of this chip truck and their contest, she quickly made her way over with a form and all but slapped it in. Or maybe she did slap it down due to the sheer vibrations she had. Or maybe that rumble was from her stomach because she'd eaten for burritos already and she needed to run it off. Form filled out, a double check from her cousins, and Dongmei was ready to turn it in. Though there was a glance from Meirin as the shortest of three plucked her form from said cousin. "What?" "Are you sure this is a good idea?" a softly whispered question. "It'll be fine." Assurance and a wide grin. "38 bean buns, remember?" "It's not the same." They both knew it. "Don't worry, Rinny~ I won't eat more then I can handle and I have no problems dropping out if I need to." Pride just demanded she try was all. "You'll hold my bear, right?" "Of course we will," Mel replied, finally butting in. "Now go and turn it in before Rin changes her mind." More teasing to help dispel worries, Dongmei nodding then giving an exaggerated wink and grin before heading back to the entries section. With all the bravado of a kungfu mastering panda, her form was set down in front of the poor collections person. "I'd like to take my shot at the mountain, please! This looks like a wonderful snack stop!" Quote: Name: Dongmei Kai Age: 16 Claim to Fame: Papa and I once had a bean bun eating contest to see who could eat as many as they could. I managed to scarf down 38 bean buns and fit another 2 in my mouth, for a total of 40, before papa called it quits. Favorite Fry Topping: Sour cream and shredded cheddar. I refuse to pick *only* one.

EATING CONTEST! Giulia was allllll here for that. She was, after all, ridiculously skinny, and thus her ability to shove food down her gullet was deceit in its purest form. As the banner dropped down instructions on how she could enter, Giulia rushed to grab one of the forms and fill it out, her handwriting akin to chicken scratch as she filled it out, and then slammed it down in front of the person collecting entries. "I want," Giulia said with all of the gravity of a 17 year old who was maybe slightly crazed, "to take on the mountain."Quote: Name: Giulia Montgomery Age: 17 Claim to Fame: Well... this one time I did one of those 'win $50 and your meal is free too' challenges, and I ate the whole thing and my twin brother like... sympathy vomited. I was fine, though, I just had the worst gas the next day, and couldn't do my dance practice... Favorite Fry Topping: I personally think you should keep it simple. Sea salt! Maybe some cheese. Depends.

Rae knew what she was doing, all right. When she heard there was an eating contest, she abandoned Luca and strode right on over. "Potatoes? I was hoping for funnel cakes, but this will do," she muttered as she approached. She shrugged and pulled a signup form out of the pile, filling it out in her neat handwriting. Quote: Name: Rae Grahn Age: 22 Claim to Fame: I accidentally ate the remaining third of my roommate's birthday cake in an hour. Favorite Fry Topping: Nothing. I prefer my fries pure, crunchy, and salty. The "I still owe Luca her next birthday cake" incident was not a fine moment, but surely it passed as a worthy feat of gluttony for a "claim to fame." She put the slip in the proper place and took a seat, waiting for her competition to file in.

Po-ta-toes... Boil 'em, mash 'em, put 'em in a stew... When it came down to it, that seems to be what the owners of MASHED had done, at least for starters, to the array of potatoes on the plates that would be set down before each of the five contestants once they were settled into their seats.
The dish itself was arranged -- piled, more like it -- on a 9 inch pie plate with high sides, the sort someone could have used to make a very nice, delightfully delicious, deep dish pie. It hadn't been used for that purpose, though. No, instead someone had started with a heaping pile of mashed red skin potatoes. Boiled and mashed, with a bit of butter and heavy cream, the reds were a drawing point for MASHED on a good day as the 'best mashed potatoes in town!' and they made up the bottom layer of deliciousness for the Taters Precious Challenge.
Next came the fries. Beautiful russet potatoes, skin on, gently washed and lightly seasoned with a proprietary blend of salt and spice. They made a beautiful nest with a light sprinkling of shredded cheese -- sharp, white cheddar; just enough bite to play off of the palate.
On top of that someone had arranged a 'blossom' of potato skins, each scooped out and filled with cheddar-jack and topped with a spattering of crumbled bacon -- not enough to take away from the olive oil and coarse salt that had been rubbed into each skin, but enough to add an additional layer of depth to the flavors.
In the center of that was a pile of home fries, neatly diced and delightfully browned a beautiful golden color -- if the color could be noted at all through the brown gravy that had been ladled over the cheese curds atop them; MASHED's own little nod towards the northern favorite, poutine.
All in all it was an impressive amount of potato on its own, nevermind that each contestant had also been provided with a small side of fries with their own preferred toppings as well.
As everyone started gathering 'round and settling in the owner emerged, this time accompanied by the Mrs, sporting a lovely white hat with a decorative daisy in the center along with a very fashionable pair of neon green cat-eye glasses. "Thank you all for joining us today! We're proud to present this year's Spud-Tacular Labor Day eating extravaganza! Alas, last year's winner Prudence Gough, was called away last minute and couldn't be here to defend her title as the Taters Precious Monarch of Mount MASHED, but she has agreed to a one on one against this year's winner at our new physical location that will be opening up in time for the fall holiday season!
"That said... we won't hold you back any longer! Bon appetite!"

Ex. I roll 1d100 and I get 61. My character has managed to consume 61% of the meal before either tapping out or needing to pause for a moment and I will write this accordingly in my RP post.
This is just the first roll and tomorrow there will be a prompt for the second roll until all players have either tapped out or one player has finished their plate!

Giulia Montgomery
Giulia had spent all day since submitting her form preparing for this eating contest. She had read several different things on Google, trying to prepare herself for this moment. Potatoes. Thank goodness she liked them, because otherwise she would be DOOMED. She had stretched out her limbs and her back, bending over as though somehow by stretching out her body she could increase her stomach capacity. She had drunk only limited beverages, and enough food to keep her energy high. The air around her? Kept cool as possible- no running around in the heat! And above all else, she had tried to keep herself confident.
Some of the tips had said, after all, that scientifically people with lower body fat might be able to eat more. And some of the world champions had followed that up with anecdotes of their own, talking about how they’d set more records when they weighed less, so… Giulia was skinny. And she had even planned out the perfect eating pose, so that her insides wouldn’t squish and scrunch, and she could shove more food down her gullet. The more food she could get down before her body kicked in going WAIT NO, the less she would have to worry about on the flip side of things.
None of her preparation, however, had mentally or emotionally prepared Giulia for the plate that was set in front of her after she took her seat on the eating contest’s stage. A massive pie dish, stuffed with spuds, covered with fries, a bloomin’ tater, poutine, and- and on the side, Giulia thanked everyone she knew that her tastes ran simple, and that she hadn’t tried to say that she loved ‘loaded’ potato fries, because oh no, that would have just been… that would have been truly awful. So dry. So… full of sour cream and chili and jalapeno or something she couldn’t have taken. That would…. Taste awful, if it came back up.
It did look beautiful, though, she reflected, blue eyes wide and vaguely horrified as she took in the sheer amount of food in front of her, in one sitting. She- maybe she had gotten in over her head? She ate a lot, yeah, because between dance and her BJJ she burned off a lot of calories exercising, but this was… this was all for one meal. This was all going to go down her gullet in half an hour, unless she was weak. Giulia didn’t want to be weak. Mama hadn’t raised to quitter. (Well, mama hadn’t raised her at all, really, it had been the nanny, but the point stood.) And then, if she did win, she’d have to do all of this a second time?
But Google had said not to let her psych herself out, so Giulia looked for the positives in all of this. One, she liked potatoes, and carbs, and they liked her. A carb had never betrayed her or lied to her.
And so, as Mrs MASHED said Bon Appetit, Giulia dove into her challenge with enthusiasm and gusto.
She was going to WIN.

Yolie wasn't quire sure if she should train for this, but, probably. Or was the rule 'come hungry'? Yolie didn't know but as she began eating she realized she wasn't ready.
She. Wasn't. Ready.
As the white maned woman continued, she made a face, finding herself slowing quickly before settling back, and wincing.
"Bleh... Maybe next time..."

Ultimately, Mehri decided to pace herself through the first platter. It hadn't helped that she went into this having eaten more than her own weight already in other fair foods, but this all-you-can-eat had sort of been a surprise to her (even if it had been announced somewhere before). While she started in it did take her by surprise by how thick things were, but that didn't mean she was going to stop.
She didn't eat nearly as much as she would have liked before pausing to take a breath, but this was an acceptable amount. Nearly half the massive pile was gone and while others may zoom, she was content to pace herself.
And also burp.

Food contests weren't usually Dongmei's thing, she didn't even know why she'd been drawn to trying this... But she had and she was here and she almost regretted it as the plate was placed before her. So many carbs, so many textures... Well at least there was gravy in the mix to help.
She could see her cousins in the crowd and wondered if Meirin was judging her. Well she was here now and she might as well try. It was almost a shame she couldn't go against Zach in a contest like this. A small snicker as she waited for the go ahead. Would Calloway be upset he missed this? She'd have to ask later.
Next thing she knew the contest was under way and, starting slow, she began to tackle the mountain. She didn't know how people did it in the long run but she at least knew one of the best ways to do this was to pace yourself in the beginning and that's what she did.
When she finally paused to take a moment in her eating, to get a look at how much she'd managed through... Not quite half way. Not bad. Papa would probably be proud! With room enough left in her stomach, having made sure to eat very little to enjoy the fair food, she decided to hang in there. Might as well go until she couldn't!

Having gotten sidetracked by the balloon pop the eating contest was in full swing by the time Lilith arrived. Standing at the back of the crowd she looked for Mehri among the contestants. Spotting her Lilith cheered softly, "Go Mehri!"

"Well, well... Miss Giulia has taken the lead in this competition with Mehri and Dongmei making it a very close race between each other for second so far. Yolanda is making an effort and can still catch up... And Rae? Maybe we should've made sure everyone was here before starting." Mr made a frowny face, knitting bushy eyebrows together for a moment before his expression shifted back to one of absolute positivity and enthusiasm.
"If anyone needs a drink, just let the Mrs know! She'll be around with the cooler for your choice of water, lemonade, tea or soda!"

Ex. I rolled 1d100 and I got 61. I now roll 2d20 and I get 35, my character has now finished 96% of their mountain of potatoes.
It is your choce as to whether or not you roll the 2d20 in the same post or if you would like to split them into two posts of 1d20 apiece. EITHER WAY you should be RPing along with your rolls accordingly.
