It's been quiet, peaceful in the world of Tendaji. Many have grown used to the new normal between the Aishans, the Earthlings, and the Kahikinans. Because of this sense of security, a few unsavory folk are taking advantage of the distracted locals.
A pickpocket is on the prowl in the marketplace, and you find yourself involved.
This prompt will be resolved by rolling 1D100. xxxxx1-20: Oh no! Something VERY VALUABLE was stolen! xxxxx21-50: While not majorly valuable, you do have an important item taken from you. xxxxx51-90: A small item is taken and you immediately identify the thief in the crowd. xxxxx91-100: Not today - you catch the thief in the act.
[ Each participating character in this WE rolls 1d100 and roleplays their reaction. You are also welcome to have your character reacting to this event happening to someone else, if it makes more sense for your character's plot.
Or, even better, maybe your character is the thief - roleplay it out from the perspective of the thief. ]
21-50: While not majorly valuable, you do have an important item taken from you.
It wasn't often that Kahukura ventured closer toward any type of settlement. The odd looks she received from both her Aishan sisters and the Yaeli were enough to keep her at arms length, but today was an exception.
Her father had come down with an illness that prevented her parents from their normal trade schedule. With her mother staying home to care for him it fell on the girls to pick up the slack. Rawiri had been given orders to go to Zinris and it was up to Kahukura to head toward the docks.
She would much rather have curled up in a ditch instead.
Still, led her father's limbara along the well worn path and listened as the cart loaded with goods rumbled along behind them. Today wasn't a massive haul; just a bit of leather and some metals for forges. All she had to do was leave them with the right people, get the gold and leave...
51-90: A small item is taken and you immediately identify the thief in the crowd.
Daspien lifted his sack over his shoulder, walking off the plank of the ship he had taken to travel to Yael. It had been a few months since he gave up on his merchant ship for something more exciting, and yet here he was, back in Yael on the same path he could navigate blind. Shaking his long hair off to the side, he looked around for anything that might catch his eye, pondering his next steps.
Moving away from the sea and toward the bustle of the dock-side market, his first thoughts was to find some sort of meal. Hot, land-food was always more appealing than the fish-based foods of the sea.
Kahukura stilled and looked over her shoulder then down. An earthling teenager held a little piece of paper up for her, but when she hesitantly took it Kura couldn't recognize anything written on it. At first she'd assumed she dropped the shop list, but this wasn't it at all. "Um...I didn't drop this."
"Oh, are you sure?" The smaller yaeli furrowed his brow, and unbeknownst to her, looked around Kahukura. A few other boys were looking through her cart while the hybrid was distracted and finally having settled on her satchel full of snacks, tossed a thumbs up his way. "Sorry to bother you then!" With a smile he bounced around, trying his best to blend in with the growing crowd of the docks.

Daspien was walking toward where Kahukura was, the crowd still thick enough that he stumbled as a small Yaeli ran directly into his side. As he moved to tug his bag, he felt some resistance and quickly realized what was happening. The kid was fast, and smart, but still needed to work on the hit-and-run technique.
Snapping his arm out, he grabbed the small teen in an effort to 'steady' them, all while trying to think how to approach this with little conflict.
"Careful, you might get hurt running into people like that..." He said lowly, his normal humor gone and him coming off like the salt of the ocean.
Kahukura may not have been fast enough to notice her own thief, but the activity beside her had the teen looking back at her cart. She caught sight of a young man - a hybrid? - helping a younger yaeli, but thought little of it. It was perfectly normal to help someone...
"Ah, my bag!" Kura lifted a few of the heavier items on the cart while a panic was starting to set in. If she didn't find her snack satchel then she would have to buy food and she just...really couldn't talk to more people today...
The actual culprit was just standing out of eyesight for her, but not for Daspien with a few other street punks. He was 'subtly' waving the kid over, trying to move things along.

The kid, unsurprisingly considering his choice of pass time, glared up at Daspien before struggling to pull away. He continued to look around and the sailor noticed the other kid trying to get their attention. Oh great, a gang.
"Just give it back and I'll let you run off. You can make your money, just not off me, you hear?" He replied to the kid. He wasn't one to judge, considering his path in life was starting to go down the similar journey of 'every man for themself.'.
It was impossible not to hear the exchange now that she was actively listening to the others around her instead of ignoring them. He wasn’t helping him; he was holding him back and that made her wonder….
“Uhm, excuse me…” Even crouched awkwardly as she was Kahukura was easily a head above either boy. “You wouldn’t happened to have….taken a bag too…did you?” If he was a thief then it was possible, right?

Daspien let out a long sigh as the voice spoke up beside him, and he looked down at the kid once more, "You really aren't as slick as you think, kid." He said with some humor in his voice, before nodding over to where the girl's voice came from, "Come on, if you're slow enough to get caught, you really don't deserve your catch."
He waited for the signs that the kid realized his mistake, before letting him go and watching with a keen eye as the kid rustled through a much bigger haul than he expected. The kid was greedy, and that was his ultimate downfall.

Kahukura was honestly impressed with how much he'd managed to stash away. Her eyes widened as he searched through his haul, taking in what bits and baubles he'd tucked away. She wouldn't have minded if he wanted to trade her back for a few of those shiny stones....
Still, her bag wasn't in with his things and she couldn't help the way her antennae fell a little. "Miss?" Turning to her left, another little yaeli tugged on her arm looking for all the world like an innocent sweetheart. In all reality it was the other thief, knowing full well they would be caught soon as well for hanging around and trying to make the best of it.
"I think you dropped this!" They held up a bag, flashing a smile to Daspien as well. "Maybe since I was so nice about helping you to find your bag you won't turn him in?"
"W-w-well...He stole, though..."
"But I helped. That makes it okay."

Daspien looked at both of them for a long second before huffing and letting go. Sure he could turn them in, but he knew from his travels that kids who stole typically didn't have much at home, and this might have been their only means for food and shelter.
"The only thing stealing will lead to is a prison sentence if you're lucky...and some missing fingers if you're not." He said seriously before looking them over again.
"Eventually I'm going to get myself a ship...if you straighten yourselves out, I might consider offering you a job...now get home before someone less lenient catches you in the act."
Turning, he looked at Kahukura directly with a small shrug as the kids raced off.
"At least you got your bag..." he finished slowly, looking her over as he realized exactly what she was, "You ok?"
Missing fingers? Kura looked just aghast as their would-be-thieves. Surely no one would harm a child like that...
She watched over them carefully, noting little repairs in their clothing made from hasty stitching and spots over the elbows that were thread bare. If she'd had more to give them then she might have, but everything in her wagon wasn't just hers. It was for the family and if not for it then she might have been in a similar state.
"Yes, just a little..." Her voice trailed off a bit as she contemplated her next question. Still, there was no way around the curiosity pulling at her. "Would they really do it? Cut off their fingers?"
And a ship? Was he a trader, then?

If Daspien could read her mind, he would have cringed. He didn't want to break the bad news to people, but at the same time it was an unfortunate result if you crossed the wrong person. Lucky for these kids, they got away with what was left and no trouble for it beside a small scare.
But then she asked, and he let out a huff as he shook his head, "Unfortunately, it's a price some would put for sticky fingers."
He gave her a half grin, "But they are lucky, and hopefully they will think twice before risking themselves...unfortunate as it is, thievery is a risk they are willing to take..."
Giving her once more up and down to ensure she was ok, he let out a small huff, "I'm Daspien, by the way. Wandering traveler, sea born sailor, whatever you'd like to call me. Unfortunate we have to meet like this, but nice to meet you all the same"
Still, it didn't settle well with Kahukura. She'd certainly heard of thieves being punished before, but there was something about children being held to the same standard as adults that left a keldari in her gut. With any luck they could turn their lives around before they were ever caught.
"I guess that's why you're looking for a ship then." Shifting around a bit, the teen adjusted the strap of her bag so that she could toss it over her should instead. At least this way it shouldn't be stolen so easily again. "It's been nice to meet you, Daspien. I'm not much at handling those kinds of situations so it was nice to have some help..." She stood a little awkwardly, almost like she could have crawled into her own skin and been completely fine. And yet, there was a smile there.
"I'm Kahukura, uh...merchant for a day, I suppose, to help my parents trade off some leather and metal for the forge. Is there anyway I can repay you for your help?"

She was a quick one, figured him out even if she was a bit green to the darker side of the world. As a sailor, he was a straight shooter so far, but he knew that unless he had a solid business, sailors often went down different paths.
A path that he was starting to consider if it meant being free to explore the world without any lingering connections.
He waved her off, "Nice to meet ya too, Kahukura. I'm just fine. I don't want to hold you up...seems you have a lot to do. Hopefully you don't run into any more trouble."
For now, he was more focused on getting to that tavern he always liked to visit in town.
"Could I help you get to where you need to go? I've only got plans to linger at the local pub, so I've got time to kill..." He halfheartedly offered, not really excited to work but being polite all the same.
"No, that's fine, I'm good." She'd already had so much interaction for the day already that all the teen wanted was to get it over with. The faster she could make her way to the forge the faster she could leave. Thankfully she had a good enough inkling on which way she should go so with a polite tip of her head she smiled his way.
Then, just as suddenly, she made a little 'o' and dug around for a few coins. "It's not much, but thank you, for the trouble." Once she'd handed it over the hybrid made her way back into the crowd.
