91-100: Not today - you catch the thief in the act.

Despite Finn's upbringing, or perhaps because of it, he had a zero tolerance policy for thieves.

He'd left Oba weeks ago and was slowly picking his way across Jauhar when several loud noises caught up with him. They were far enough away that he couldn't make out everything, but it was a cacophony of the same words; "thief", "help" and "that way!". At first Finn really couldn't care less. These people meant little to him, he didn't care for their rope bridges and he was only passing through.

When a dagger came his way for just happening to be standing in the middle of the road....Well, that made him angry.

It was a scrawny slip of a shifter that dared to attack him. The man looked as feral as a radaku with only half the fur and twice the spittle. Dodging his attacks was harder than Finn wanted it to be, but after a quick burst of fire the man tried to run away.

Tried.

He didn't make it far before the earth pulled up around his legs causing him to fall flat on his face with a scream. Half the contents of his bag fell out, several more trickling away as he was drug back toward Finn by the very ground itself. When he turned to look back all the man could see was the sorcerer holding his hand out, a furious scowl covering his scarred face and a promise of death in his eyes.

"P-p-please! I'm sorry! I'll take it all back! Just don-" All at once he cried out and in confusion looked up once more to see...the yaeli holding a rope made of condensed dirt?!

And once more Finn let loose with the whip.

Katori typically enjoyed traveling. She had fun finding little adventures along the way as she explored the lands and even if troubles arose at least she knew that she could hold her own. It was frustrating at times dealing with certain aspects or people but overall she felt like she was growing with each experience. However, finding that someone had stolen her own coin purse did not settle well with her today and she found her temper rising. She remembered it had been a jumpy looking shifter that had bumped into her earlier but she was at a loss of how to find him.
Was.

The sounds of screams had attracted her attention and the girl immediately found herself running. If someone was being attacked then surely she had to help! Her determination faltered though when she came across the scene, her own coin purse rolling towards her in the clutter of items that bounced along the ground. It appeared that the man yelling was the shifter that she had been searching for and Katori should have felt furious….wanted to feel furious….but the pathetic appearance of the man made her freeze. What do I do? But the familiar Yaeli seemed intent on beating him to death which surely wasn’t the right answer either! She bit the inside of her cheek hard enough to draw blood before finally making her decision. A whip of water crashed into the earthen one, turning it into muck that splattered the Shifter before another blow could rip his back apart even more.

Enough! Just let the authorities deal with it!” She found herself calling out, her voice almost pleading as she approached. Recognition crossed her expression as she studied the Yaeli. “Finn.” The name was almost bitter on her lips and it was hard not to notice the exasperation that crossed her features as she pieced the situation together. Even if someone had stolen…did they deserve to suffer like this?

The shifter's shrieks echoed off the massive trees surrounding the pair. With every move of Finn's stone whip the rocks shifted, bringing about an unholy sound before he slammed it against the man's flesh. It wasn't large enough to do any serious bludgeoning damage; that wasn't what Finn wanted. He wanted to make a statement and he would have gone one for much longer had he not been interrupted.

He could only watch as his whip disintegrated into filth before turning toward the culprit. At first he was surprised, but that was quickly outweighed by an exhausted sense of aggravation.

"If I let the authorities handle it he would have been gone by now." Motioning to the shifter with his free hand, Finn tightened the hold he had on the man's legs with the other by clenching his fist. What was she even doing here? Last he'd seen of Katori she was in Oba.

Why did it not surprise her to see that Finn was in the middle of this situation? Katori let out a sigh before gesturing towards the obviously terrified shifter. "I doubt he'll be going anywhere soon like that." She quipped back. Ugh, what was the point of authorities if not to take care of things like this? Not like Finn would understand logic it seemed! Katori sighed again with frustration. "Seriously Finn. I think you made your point." Like what would pounding the guy into the ground do at this point? A life just because he took a few coins from people? Spirits, it looked like the guy hadn't even seen a decent meal himself so no wonder he had stolen from them!

Katori stepped forward and seemingly disappeared before standing next to Finn, her hand moving so that she could grip his wrist before he caused the shifter more harm. "Look, he dropped everything so it's over." What would injuring him even do at this point? The Shifter looked half starved as it was! The terror in his gaze even made Katori's anger quell despite seeing her own coin purse on the ground with its contents scattered out. It was like coming across two strays fighting because one tried to snag the other one's table scraps which both made Katori frustrated and concerned at the same time.

Not with the sprains in his ankles. There was no way with the pressure being exerted upon them that they weren't damaged in some form, if not outright broken. Finn relaxed his hand and thus, allowed the earth to fade away from the shifter's legs. They were already starting to swell if the discoloration was anything to go off, and the thief shifted so that he could place his hands upon them.

Finn's subsequent exhale was long and tinged with lightning that slipped out on his breath. When he looked at Katori there was more exasperation in his expression than awe at her skill. "Touch me again and your fingers will rot." He wrenched his hand out of her grip and turned to the shifter. For a moment the two simply looked upon one another. The thief's hands shook as he did his best to stand, albeit slowly lest he invite another attack, when Finn snarled. "Leave; but if you take one thing with you I'll pop your eyes like berries."

The shifter gave a shuddering whimper and nodded. For a moment he looked to Katori and mouthed 'thank you' before hobbling away as fast as he could.

Now that that had been handled..."Are you just following me now?"

Katori gave Finn a look. Go ahead and try. Her silver gaze dared him before she took a step aside to let him breathe now that the shifter was freed. It was like dealing with a wild raptrix. Katori could not lower your guard at all else he'd bite her whole arm off. It was fairly easy to imagine as well with how he snapped at her. Honestly it made her just want to reach back out and hold onto his wrist again just to see if he dared to try her today. Thankfully the Shifter caught her attention and stopped her from acting out. That's right. At least he listened...somewhat. Katori pursed her lips before giving a nod towards the Shifter. Hopefully he would at least reconsider his future actions after today's scare.

"Why would I want to do that?" Katori let out a 'pfft' at Finn's question. "Do I look like I enjoy being put in a foul mood? I happen to be on my way home to Zena. What are you doing so far north?" As she spoke the Finn the girl bent down and started gathering the items that the thief had dropped. "Any of this yours? Hmm...that one is a bit too fancy so I'll go ahead and say no for that piece." She sat a nicer coin purse on the side while picking up her own and putting the coins back in order. Was there even a nearby settlement where they could return the rest of the loot? There was no way to tell where most of this came from. What a frustrating situation...

"If I answer 'yes' you'll just haunt me longer." Finn stepped forward and crouched, albeit a fair distance away from her, to inspect the loot. He rifled through it, noting a few nice bags among the trash, but nothing really jumped out at him. A more advantageous adventurer might have taken a few of the coin purses, but Finn had never been one to focus on finances. He wanted things he could use and eat; none of which were part of this haul.

Crouched down as he was, using his staff to help him balance, Finn felt his blood run cold. As soon as she said Zena he let loose a very harsh, very ugly curse word and resisted the urge to melt his own flesh just so he wouldn't have to go anymore. "I'm going to Zena to pay a debt." As he stood, the young mage never let go of his staff. Even though he was taking far better care of himself these days using magic still drained him of stamina, which meant far more calories than Finn's thin body could keep up with. He was tired, but he'd be damned if he admitted to it.

"He tried to steal from me; should have picked a better mark." Her little snipe about his wealth didn't bother him, or rather, not as much as she may have wanted. "Take whats yours and leave the rest. Someone's bound to find it."

"That implies you're thinking it." Quipped back Katori, her gaze darting towards Finn before she resumed trying to organized the scattered goods. "So we chase off a thief just to leave everything scattered about for the next one to pick up?" She quipped with a frown. Surely there was a village up ahead that she could turn the belongings into some authorities. They could either wait for the purses to be claimed or use them to help others in need. If anything she was surprised Finn didn't claim some for himself but then again it wasn't as if he could eat coins, that much she had come to understand from their previous encounters.

"A debt, hmm." Katori let out a long sigh. "Of course you have to be on the same path to Zena at the same time as me." The hybrid finally stood and shifted, all of the purses collected into her satchel. "There's a village up ahead where I can hand these over. I know an honest merchant who has connections in case someone comes looking for their stolen goods." She rolled her eyes at the snarl. "The poor man probably saw someone who looked like they were relying on a walking stick to keep the wind from dragging them away, not some rage fueled mage." Though Katori's expression did twist at the realization, perhaps the thief had deserved some of that punishment then. "Picking on the weak...it was a despicable act. Not that I'm saying you should always break their legs, but perhaps he did deserve a lesson." And that was as much as she would give Finn! There was no need to be so brutal, not when Katori had been taught to show kindness and try to be merciful when possible.

Even though admittedly it was a lot easier to simply punch things....a lot easier.

"Does it matter? You got back what you wanted. Besides, it's not like you know where any of this goes. It's a waste of time. " Time that could be better spent getting to Zena. It had already taken weeks to get this far and Finn wasn't looking forward to the last leg of the journey. If Tac had at least come along with him he'd had someone to talk to, but his brother wasn't one for travel it seemed.

"He wasn't doing anything I haven't so I can't fault him for that. He saw a target and went for it; I don't have to like the outcome, though." How many times had he snatched food from a child's hand just because they were small? Hell, he'd knocked a kid down in front of a priest just to take the bread he'd been giving to birds.

On second thought, though...Finn pursed his lips and dipped down to take a few coins for himself. "For the trouble or are you going to tell me I don't deserve lunch after stopping a thief?"

"So is nearly breaking someone's legs but here we are." Quipped back Katori with a lovely smile towards Finn. "I'll take care of it and it shouldn't bother you if I make a stop along the way to Zena." She would drop off what she could and just hoped it would either go back to its actual owners or to someone in need that wasn't simply stealing it.

"I'm not going to argue." Katori pocketed the rest. "If you're looking for lunch though there is a nice tavern at my next stop. They have a good stew and serve it in bowls made of bread." The girl gave a shrug of her shoulders. "If anything maybe traveling in a pair could keep thieves from trying to jump you again."

"I'm not a charity case; I had a job." Finn groused. Realizing how that might have sounded, he added, "I only left because I was traveling to Zena. I wasn't fired." If anything his employer actually tolerated him and was a decent sort of man. It hadn't been glamorous work by any means, but who cared if it was legit?

Still, he was tired and having a full belly sounded better than giving out his coin for it. He could save money that way. If she thought him some poor wretch then all he'd have to do is listen to her lectures on morality in exchange for free food. Honestly, what was the difference in that and the priesthood of Yael?

"Fine, but I have some things to finish up here. "

"I would never consider you that." Replied Katori honestly. "Not after our first meeting, but more so I just don't want someone to get ripped apart by your fangs." If anything he was more like a savage animal ready to lash out at anyone who dared to look at him the wrong way like that thief had! Still, a grin crossed her lips as Finn actually clarified his statement. "Got it. You took a vacation." She stated with a nod before staring at him.

"What things? Also, I did not say anything about paying. I'm just offering company since you obviously have coin now to pay for the meal. We'll take care of our own costs." That was what he preferred anyways. Katori crossed her arms as she glanced back towards Finn. "So now what?"

-and if a child should cross your path, please curb your temper lest they fall victim to your poison-

Honestly, if she just had the robes and purple hair dye she could pass for a priestess. The whole time she spoke Finn looked upon her with a droll stare, mentally imagining the horns coming from her head before he snapped back into reality.

A vacation? "...Yeah, sure.." Whatever the hell that was.

"In that case you take all of that to whatever authority can stand you and I'll be on my way. I see little point suffering through this-" He motioned to her entire form, "-without payment."

"Pfft. You know others would enjoy my company, right? At least I don't look like I have the mange." Quipped Katori before sighing. "Fine, I'll use a couple of the coins and buy dinner. It's better than letting you roam free to maim someone else." She chastised him again with a frown. "If you want to waste a chance at a free meal and lodging then that's fine by me. But if you'd like to tag along and not deal with more potential thefts I can endure your presence." Katori gave a shrug as she didn't mind either way. If they were both headed to Zena there was an increased chance of dealing with him some more and so it was best to finally get it out of the way.
