The fall always seems to be a somber time thanks to the transition of the cold. With less distractions from the chores required during the summer heat, you cannot help but think about those who are no longer there in your life. Maybe it was your mother and father, prominent figures in your life that you never imagined would be gone. Or maybe it was someone taken from your life too soon, like a friend or a sibling. Or maybe it was an animal, a familiar that you raised when you were a kid but passed away from old age.
How do you honor those you have lost? What goes through your mind this time as you celebrate their life and mourn for the loss? Take some time to reflect on the past, and how that impacted you and shaped you for the future. If you want, you can even roleplay with a friend to discuss each other's loss (but both character needs to speak of their own personal loss in order for it to count).
[ We are looking for reflection more so than the actions, but here are the funeral rituals in tendaji:
A lot of it is just burials in cemetery like lots of land. The Alkidike take their Sisters back to the Islands where they have a night ceremony, bringing them back to Aisha, and then floating them off to sea on a pyre.
The earthlings have funerals and bury their dead, leaving a stone marker in their place. They usually bury their deceased and pass their belongings down to kin during the ceremony. Each earthling tribe uses a specific burial blanket during their funerals.
Many of the Kahikinans conduct burials in the soil near the waters (Rivers/Samps) or release their dead to the sea (Reef/Sea/Caves). ]

The young woman wandered around the small garden deciding on which flowers she should pick for the bouquet she was putting together. Naevius was trying to remember all of the flowers her Mom used to gather and have in vases all around their house when she was younger. That was one of the reasons she had taken over this small garden when they moved to the palace. She always spent a little bit of time this time of year gathering flowers and either planting new ones in the garden or putting different bouquets around the palace in memory of her mother. Ever since Vasili entered her life, he had been joining her and helping in whatever way he could in support of her. While he had never met her mother, he had heard plenty enough stories to feel like he knew her in his own way. Yet he knew around this time of year, while his presence could bring her comfort, sometimes she just needed silence to process her emotions. So in the meantime he found somewhere to sit and go over some papers until such time as she was ready to talk.
Her mother had passed around this time of year when she was very little so sometimes she had a hard time remembering things about her mom but she always remembered her mother’s love of flowers and beasts. It was how their parents had fallen in love after all and what she now enjoyed as a profession herself. Nae couldn’t help but wonder what life would be like now if her mother were still here with them. She knew her mother would have been an amazing queen, that woman had been incredibly compassionate towards all and would give the shoes off her feet if that was what was required. She imagined she might not have had to be in an arranged marriage if her mother had been able to have any say in it. That, however, had worked out for the better. She had loved Sebastien in their short time together, but she had found a partner in Vasili. They worked well together and while her mother might not have ever been able to meet him, the young woman knew her husband and mother would have gotten along.
It led her to another train of thought, if her mother were still here, she might not be an only child. It had been lonely as an only child, granted she had the ranch hands to pal around with and all the various beasts but it didn’t change the fact that she always wanted a sibling. Naevius wondered if Nicias felt that way too. He was fortunate to have found a friend and playmate in one of Varinia’s children but she wondered if he would be a good big brother. She shook her head at that thought, of course he would be. Internally, she had to guess that her mother would have wanted multiple children and she hadn’t thought about it before but so did she.
Naevius felt a hand on her shoulder. “Can I help with anything honey?” A man’s deep voice asked as she felt his arms wrap around her from behind. She smiled gently. ”You can hold these while I gather a few more bouquets worth.” Vasili nodded and took the flowers from her hands. “After all this time you still manage to do this every year.” He commented and she nodded as she got back to creating bouquets. ”Mhmm.” She replied simply. They sat in companionable silence as Naevius picked flowers and Vasili helped keep them together. Once one was completed, Naevius would hand them to Vasili who would clean up the stems and then tie all the stems together with a small piece of string. That would get cut off later when Naevius took the bouquets inside and put them in vases she had picked out previously. “What is your favorite memory of her?” That caused Naevius to pause and think back for a few moments. ”It sounds so silly, but I used to love the days when my Mom would sit down with me and fix my hair. We would usually take so long doing it that my Dad would know to just go about his day as we wouldn’t be available. It was time for just us...just us to be together.” Vasili kissed the top of her head as the memories made the tears gather in her eyes. “You know she’d be proud of you right? You had so much thrown at you during and after the war and you handled it with such beauty and grace. I remember hearing about it from my parents, who, I know, weren't exactly thrilled about it, but I couldn’t help but think how amazing you were. And I think your mother would think the same.” Naevius smiled and leaned into his embrace. ”I think you two would have gotten along…” She said happily as she wiped the tears from her eyes. ”Come now, I think we have enough for now. We still have to get ready for Nicias to leave and there’s something else I want to talk to you about.” Nae said with a twinkle in her eyes.
