Houshi did not like her luck. She did not like how frequently she ran into people stringer than her. But the feel of a Lieutenant's aura--someone on her level, someone she could figght--was a moth to a flame. She needed to be better. She needed to demonstrate that she was a worthy Page, able to serve her planet.

She was tired of being weak, more than anything, because the way she had been smacked around recently had shown her that quite effectively.

"You," she said, as she came upon the Lieutenant, "stand. And fight."

Thorite really, really did not want to fight tonight. He was tired, and cranky, and he hadn't been able to get anywhere near his quota tonight. All he wanted to do was sit on the sidewalk for a little while and just Exist.

Unfortunately, he hadn't powered down, and now some little pipsqueak was coming up to him to fight.

He heaved a huge sigh and stood up. "Are you sure you wanna do this dance?" he asked boredly, blinking slowly at her.

He patted his wisp a little absently as it burbled at him, clearly not wanting him to fight.

Houshi evaluated him as he stood. He was tall. That was alright, she could handle tall. What she couldn't handle was the abject lack of anything even approaching enthusiasm. It was hard ot want to fight someone who didn't seem at all interested in fighting her; Houshi didn't like to think of herself as some kind of ridiculously aggressive hothead, and having her "enemy" look that bored really was doing a number on her desire to get into a fight.

Still, she crossed her arms, and nodded.

"I do," she said. "I'm not afraid of you." She refused to be scared of some overgrown Negaverse jackass. "And I'm not going to let you and your organization run roughshod over the people of Destiny City."

Thorite shrugged. "We protect it from the likes of you," he pointed out, but it sounded hollow to even his ears. Still, he had to at least pretend like he cared much about the Negaverse, even if he was increasingly not. So he summoned his plastic hammer dohickey and twirled it around, lifting his brows at her.

He wouldn't strike first.

"You protect it from us?" Houshi let out a sharp, shocked laugh. "Is that a joke? You dare imply that you're protecting anyone when it's your people that run around, stealing and eating starseeds and draining energy?"

Clearly, his lack of interest was not a lack of devotion to the Negaverse. So she bounced forward with the grace of the ballerina she was, and spun into a solid kick aimed for his side.

Thorite spun, her foot catching his side but with less strength than he was sure she'd intended. Twisting back, he swung the plastic hammer right for her shoulder. Damage a joint and you damaged a limb. Even if the damage was only a bruise.

Man, he really didn't have his heart in this right now, but he'd at least protect himself.

s**t. He was pretty quick on his feet, and he was bigger than her, too, so he was pretty well advantage din this fight. Houshi might have bitten off more than she could chew, she had to admit that.

His hammer swing came for her shoulder, and she shifted, squaring, to eat the hit, and then reached a hand over to grab for his wrist and dig in her nails. If she could make him drop his weapon, that would give her an advantage, and getting a good grip on his arm was leverage, anyway. That would let her jerk him around some, an advantage she would very much treasure.

He really should've known better than to underestimate someone just because they were small. Her nails dug into just the right tendons to make him drop the hammer—but that, ultimately, would be fine. He still had the rest of his body, after all. His free hand swung down and headed straight for her solar plexus in a punch.

Houshi grinned, a little feral and a little proud, and as he swung his punch at her, she yanked--using his arm as a lever to hurl him off balance, and away from her, she hoped. It would be quick, she figure,d to follow that up by ducking in and sweeping his legs out from under him, and then she would be at the advantage. The victor.

She had precious few wins under her belt. That might just change tonight..

Thorite really, really should've learned the lesson about underestimating someone by now. The bigger they are, the harder they fall was a popular saying for a reason. And he was a rather large guy. (As nice and affirming as that was whenever his brain tried to induce dysphoria—it was a large [haha] disadvantage when it came to fighting someone slighter, smaller, and speedier). As he was launched over her shoulder, he managed to force himself to quickly inhale and exhale—getting precious oxygen in his body and also forcing the air out so he would have less trouble breathing. Less wind to be knocked out, less problems recovering. Still, he hit the ground hard and coughed a bit, focusing on breathing for a moment.

"You win," he said tiredly, lifting his head and rubbing the back of it. Damnit, his hat had fallen off. Whatever. At least he could walk away easily, as soon as she left.

Supposing, of course, she didn't call anybody to help kidnap him and keep him prisoner or something. He hadn't considered that. Maybe it would be a good thing? He honestly didn't know. His eyes stared up at the sky, glassy and displaying his thoughts being far away from what had just transpired. Like none of it mattered. And perhaps it didn't. Not to him, anyway.

Houshi....wasn't exactly sure what to do. He'd gone down, but he wasn't making any moves to get back up, and that was what she had been prepared for.

Instead, he was surrendering. What....exactly did one do with a surrendering enemy? She had never been in this position before, and that was more than a little uncomfortable.

So she exhaled, and stepped away from him.

"Think about what you're doing," she said, simply, "and who you're really protecting."

With that, she turned to leave.

"I have been," he whispered, still staring into the sky. He wasn't sure he'd been heard, but he didn't exactly care.

Getting help would be a lot harder than simply admitting things weren't quite right to a rando who'd attacked first out of boredom.

And he still wasn't sure he wanted it yet. He focused his eyes again as his wisp floated above him with another burble and he petted it gently. "Sorry, bud. She was insistent," he said with a quiet laugh.
