Waking up was a slow affair for Sariza. She was aware of the world in faint murmurs and the pain behind her eyes. There was a dull ache in her bones that didn’t seem quite right, but ultimately it was the building nausea that forced her into the waking world.
When she opened her eyes she immediately wished she hadn’t. The cold, slimy walls around her weren’t any she recognized and the near panic that consumed her was only tampered by her physical distress. “Ugh...my head…” The oban raised a hand to cup her temple. “Where am I?”

Xenia wasn’t sure how to help, honestly. She hadn’t even meant to be in the same room as the Oban when she woke up, but a part of her just balked at leaving her along in that cell. Room? I wouldn’t call this a room. It certainly wasn’t...the cleanest, and there wasn’t even a bed so she wasn’t sure what to call it. “Safe. Untouched.” Crouching, the yaeli reached over to help only to have Sariza snarl at her. “Sorry...I’m sure you’d rather I stay over here, right?” With that in mind Xenia crossed the room and tucked her legs under her to sit on the floor.

The door that...the yaeli had come through...Sariza could barely lift her head to look, but even from here she could tell it was locked shut. How long had she been in the room with her….? Had she just entered or was she watching, waiting for Sariza to make some sort of movement?
“...Where are we, exactly?” All she could see was a small window, just above her head and the night sky outside. It wasn’t enough to go on, but at least the heat reminded her of home.

“A hide out, but still inside the city. Please try to keep your voice down; if Indra knows you’re lucid she’ll have your dosage upped again.” It was already high enough as it was. Honestly, Xenia didn’t expect this spell of consciousness to last long; as soon as the next phase of the red flower kicked in then the Oban would be lost. She already looked nauseous, but there was little Xenia could do about that. Still, she periodically looked over her shoulder at the door as if someone would come through at any moment…

“Again? How many times have I come to?” That wasn’t...that wasn’t good. Sariza groaned and tried to lift herself up. She only succeeded in leaning against the slimy, sweating wall and lolling her head back. In all honesty she couldn’t tell if the wall itself was slick with moisture or if that was her own skin. When Sariza tried to raise her hand it shook and eventually she gave up trying entirely. There was just enough sense about her to know she needed to leave but...she just wasn't able to figure out how.

With a sigh, Xenia scooted closer, unable to watch this a moment longer. “...Do you really want to know?” Gently, cautiously even, she reached over to brush Sariza’s dreadlocks away from her face. After a moment she leaned down toward a cup she’d brought with her and lifted it up, “Here, drink-” Before Sariza could turn her face away, Xenia took a small drink herself and offered an empathetic smile. “-see? Just water.” Finally, the Oban nodded and Xenia was able to help her.

Admittedly, having some water on her dry throat did help. For a moment Sariza simply let it settle in the back of her mouth as she studied the woman in front of her. There was a discoloration to her skin that hadn’t been there the last time she was awake...“Those are some nasty bruises.” Finger prints on her arms, a darkness around her left eye, a split lip; they didn’t look like the marks of someone who had been involved in a fair fight. She’d been part of the guard long enough to know what the marks of an aggressive partner looked like and after seeing the matorian this yaeli ran with she could only assume.

Xenia’s hand hesitated against Sariza’s skin, but with a sigh she continued to try comforting the other woman. She took the cup away from the Oban, dipped her fingers in the water and patted her overheated skin. “Yes, they are.” Indra hadn’t been pleased at all with the blatant subordination. She’d been very physical in her discipline, but Xenia couldn’t bring herself to regret it. Her sacrifice had spared a life so it checked out. She just wished it didn’t hurt so much to move and those were only the bruises that Sariza could see.

“Why are you trying to help me if you know she’s going to hurt you?” That had to be it, right? Why else would she look like that? Sariza used as much of her strength as she could to take Xenia’s hand in her own and turned it over, hissing at the blatant fingernail punctures on the inside of the yaeli’s wrist. How hard would Indra have had to grab her to leave a print like that? By all accounts she shouldn’t care about what was going on in her personal life; after all, it was because of Xenia that she was here in the first place, but still...

The smaller woman sat back a little and gently tugged her hand free. When she looked up at Sariza her eyes were set and despite the bruising there was a strength in them that hadn’t been there years ago. “Because it’s one thing to steal pointless objects that don’t really matter to anyone, but I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of us. Ten years in the future no one’s going to care about a few crates of bronze, but a son? A daughter? That they’ll miss.” At some point in her life Indra’s care would have broken her, but now? Now it made her more sure than ever that what she’d done was right.

That was surprisingly more heartfelt than what she’d expected a smuggler to say. “Who are you, really?” Sariza murmured. She reached back out for Xenia’s hand and when she looked into the yaeli’s eyes there was just something more than what should have been. No one like that should be here, they should be free and safe and “...I’m going to be sick.” Feeling her stomach rolling once more, Sariza slapped a hand to her mouth and groaned. She HATED this. The sickness kept coming on her in waves where one moment she was fine and the next; this.

“Ah, yeah, the red flower will do that.” As much as she wanted to be honest with Sariza the water she’d just drank wasn’t just water. It had a small amount of the red flower, but not enough to knock her out. Xenia was just trying to spare her the symptoms of withdrawl which were apparently already in full effect. Turning the Oban to the side, Xenia pushed a bucket closer to her and winced as she started to throw up. “Just let it out; no point in holding it all in. It’s just working its way through your blood.” The process of helping Sariza, then cleaning her off and pushing the bucket away took a little longer than Xenia wanted. She kept checking the door, her drooped ears flicking every so often.
And then...she turned to the window. “She won’t be back tonight so if you want to get away you have to do it soon. I’ll help you tup, but everything else is up to you.”

Escape? Sariza lazily looked up to where the yaeli had her eye and truly saw the window for the first time. It would be hard to get up there even if she was in the right state of mind, but not impossible. Still… Sariza reached out to put her hand on the other woman’s shoulder. “Wait...Ruzicka. Do you know them? Does Indra?” Was that why she had captured her? If she was involved with those same bandits then the name might mean something to her. She looked at Xenia, trying her best to see any subtleties in her expression but ultimately failing. Even if the yaeli lied she likely wouldn’t notice.

“I’m not sure, honestly...I don’t.” Xenia couldn’t help tense under that stare. Even as inebriated as she was there was a sincerity to the Oban that made her uncomfortable. It was as if those light eyes could see straight through to her soul and Xenia found herself diverting her gaze. “Would it make a difference? Either way you’re her prisoner.” That name didn’t mean a thing to Xenia and as far as she knew Indra had only taken her to keep from being exposed. Was...was this guard involved in something illegal herself?

“Yes...No...I don’t know…” Sariza let her hand fall to the side with a sigh. Xenia had a point; even if Indra was involved it’s not like she could DO anything about it right then. She’d already been overwhelmed once and if she tried to force it out of the matorian the same thing would likely happen, maybe even worse. Looking back up at the window, Sariza took a deep breath and started to stand. She placed one palm against the wall and the other against her thigh, pushing herself up with a grunt and a bit of a shake.
