On the first floor of the library, in the adjunct wing, was a mildly comprehensive video and audio collection that guests could rent from. It was organized by type, with VHS being the smallest visual media section, and DVD's (and a small amount, but ever growing with donations and other contributions, of Blu Rays) making up the main bulk of the section's collection. CD's and a computer dedicated exclusively to audio recordings of various kinds also occupy that same wing. The second floor of the wing, the Tech Center, houses more space for further expansions of the collection, as well as rooms with televisions and computer banks for rental.
Of course, one can simply check out a DVD and take it home with them, if they did not feel like watching it at the library. There was a log on the patron's library card account for everything rented at the library, in case they wanted to easily find and check out a favorite or a particularly helpful media source again. The same was true for books, but Tony did notice most people used that particular feature for the movies.
Dogby was sitting next to Tony as he stood in front of a bookshelf filled with DVDs and read along their spines. Each spine had a sticker with a shelf ID on it and a small barcode. He was not scanning, not today, but rather just reading through the IDs to make sure the DVDs were all in order on that shelf. He would check for actual inventory some other time: it was always a shame when a movie or book did not make it back home. This section tended to fall out of order quite a lot, with guests taking cases out to look at them or read the back and then shoving them back in the row without being too careful to get them exactly where they came from.
Shelf reading was probably one of the most boring jobs in the library, and that was saying a lot for some, but Tony found it a nice way to clear his head after a busy day.

The library was one of Perrie's favorite places. All the books he could possibly need for school for free! It made his little broke college student's heart happy. And the movies on DVD! The collection they had was extensive and varied, and covered a lot of what he needed for his Animation studies, as well as some of his personal favorites of classic films. Sure, there was the Benton Street Theater, which was indeed a treasure (and which he also frequented), but he couldn't stop and go back and examine a couple of minutes of footage the way he could on DVD. And that made the library an invaluable resource. Bouncing into the library, Perrie waved to the librarian behind the counter, who waved back and promptly shushed him. He nodded and dutifully slowed his roll a bit, though he still bounced as he zigzagged through the rows of shelves on the main floor, making his way toward the adjunct wing. He knew that part of the library like the back of his hand, knew where all the classic vintage films were, knew where all the animation was. But it was always better to ask for help, and when he saw Tony arranging the DVDs on the shelves he broke into a grin. "Hallo, Mr Darrow!" he chirped, then he remembered where he was and lowered his voice. "Hallo, Mr Darrow! Hallo, Dogby!" Perrie reached down to pet the ever-present corgi, scritching him behind the ears. "Got anything new in?"

Tony was not as stuffy as some of his employees, and did not mind a little noise. As long as it was not disruptive, and usually he was a bit of a chatter box anyway. He did get a lot of angry looks from Carol, one of the older women who worked the library part time, but his younger employees like Biggs and Wedge did not mind it too much. They were, of course, much louder than he was and it was generally a bad idea to let them work any one section together. Still, even though he did allow talking and the like, that did not mean he was always expecting it. When an excited voice broke the silence of the otherwise empty portion of the library, Tony nearly jumped out of his coat. "Oh! Hello," he laughed, mostly at himself as his face burned a bit darker than normal. "Here for another film, hmm? Anything in specific?" He grinned, knowing full well the kind of movies Perrie checked out the most, but liking to engage the excitable young man in conversation about it. Dogby, of course, just loved the attention. She was immediately yipping at Perrie softly, lifting up on stumpy back legs in an effort to lean into his hands for optimal petting. She would prefer if Tony did not draw attention away from her, but has so far not figured out how to stop him.

Kneeling on the floor, Perrie obliged Dogby's demands, scritching down her back and ruffling her fur all over her little corgi body while she licked at his face. "Well," he answered Tony around Dogby's attentions, "I have to do a frame-by-frame analysis of a traditionally animated work that's not like Warner or one of those. Or anime. Now I know a lot about European animation, so I figured I could use something like TinTin or Asterix. I'd use Fantastic Planet, but that's a movie -- professor wants it short and concise." Perrie stood and grinned back at Tony. He really liked the librarian -- Tony was about as atypical a librarian as they came, not at all stuffy and stiff like some he's encountered. The pink-haired student knew and liked a lot of the staff who worked other sections as well, and when they worked the video section it was all chatter all the time, to some people's annoyance. But not Tony. "Oh, and for my film class I have to write a paper on a person in the industry. Figured I may as well write about Buster Keaton, yeah? Since I already know a lot about him. Sooooooooo I guess I'll need a couple Keaton films. Oh woe is me," he said, throwing his hand to his forehead in mock anguish. "I probably should check out a book about him or something cause I'll have to add citations and I can't cite my memory." Lithiasaur Biggs and Wedge… I see what you did there XD

Dogby was immediately in heaven, and seemed to be the happiest puppy on the planet as soon as she was given cuddles. She was not an attention starved dog by any means, of course. Tony gave her as much attention as he could, even bringing her to work with him. She was quickly becoming well known as the library dog, and she just seemed to thrive with all the attention and love. She was just a big cuddle bug, and could never be satisfied. Really, it was a nice way to live. Tony could not fault her for just wanting to be happy all the time. And anyway, it made others happy. She figured out what a lot of people had to work all their lives to even get close to. Arguably, it was something to be jealous of. Though Tony was definitely not as big a fan of being pet. "Oh, that's a good choice. I'm sure you'll find plenty of material for your paper, then. We've got some good biographies, too, though that requires less watching and more reading," he chuckled, knowing full well that the young man very much enjoyed his film culture. He always seemed to be in there, looking for something to watch. Homework or not. "I'm sure you know where the classics are, by now. I've gotten a lot of 'new' stuff in lately, at least for the blu ray and DVD departments. I'm trying to make sure the media is accessible, and it turns out not too many have their own VHS decks any more." He sighed, though it was only a mild concern. Really, emerging media was, in itself, an aging term. As long as they didn't release a new kind of disc any time soon, he was sure he could build quite a healthy selection for the rentals.

Perrie laughed at Tony's teasing. "I read, Mr Darrow, I swear! I'll go bother Biggs and Wedge for biographies when I'm done hunting down the films I need." The young film student went to his favorite location in the DVD shelves -- vintage classic films -- and started rummaging through them (carefully keeping them in order, lest he test Tony's good nature), muttering to himself. "Let's see.... Our Hospitality, that's a good one… The General, of course… hmmm, oooh a collection of his short films! And some of the more obscure ones at that! That'll work!" he chirped, piling the stack of DVD cases on top of the shelves. "Now, let me see if I can find any Asterix…" He flitted probably faster than he should have to the Animation section and started perusing, walking backwards as he scanned down the titles. "Hmmm… there's Asterix the Gaul but nothing else… Oh well, it'll have to do!" Pulling out the DVD case and waggling it in the air, he returned to his pile of Buster Keaton films and plopped it on top of the stack. "To be honest, Mr Darrow, I'm kind of impressed you had even one Asterix. He's not widely known outside Europe, actually." His expression was momentarily that of a Serious Film Nerd, then he broke into a grin and the illusion that he was a serious student evaporated. "D'you think anyone would mind much if I leave this stuff at the front desk whilst I go bother Biggs and Wedge?" Lithiasaur SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG /sob
