Hobbies:

  • Dance-- Giulia started ballet when she was only three, joining a pre-ballet class that the Nanny’s daughter was also in. It might have started as a small convenience and social engagement, but the girl quickly fell in love with it. She left ballet when they went on pointe (age 11) and moved on to another style of more modern dance; dance has been her primary form of exercise for the last 14 years.

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu -- Inspired by the sheer number of other dance students and professionals who seemed to do martial arts as both a form of self-defense and to help work with other muscle groups, Giulia picked up a martial art of her own. She has been practicing BJJ since age 7, moving to the adult belt system in 2020, and is a recently-promoted purple belt.


Pros:

  • Outgoing -- Giulia is by no stretch of the imagination a wallflower. With thoughtless warmth and affection, she greets the large majority of even her enemies with a smile, like they've actually been friends for years. She cannot stand to see people on the edges of a group, and if she notices someone wanting to join in, she will make an active effort to include them. She is also unwilling to turn a blind eye to things, and while she will usually try and talk someone down from violence rather than escalate a confrontation, she is not afraid to go out on a limb and throw herself into a dangerous situation to protect another.

  • Disciplined -- Her main hobbies both require a certain amount of discipline, both physical and mental. Giulia has strong willpower as a result of consistently training since she was very young, and once she sets herself to a decision or a task she devotes herself to seeing it through- whether it is studying for a test, simply taking notes during a class, or scarfing down her food so she can get back to doing something else. She is very good at sticking to eating plans and training schedules, and even on 'cheat' days thinks her treats through carefully before deciding to over-indulge.

  • Lively -- Everything about Giulia is vivacious, even her dramatics. She is constantly in motion, quick to laugh, and her hands talk as much as her mouth. She loves to laugh, and loves to see other people smile, and loves to go get herself into scrapes as part of an adventure. But lively and outgoing to not always mean sweet-natured; Giulia can absolutely throw a hissy fit with the same energy as she can bring joy. While those usually end without a verbal apology, they do usually end in apology gifts. Like homemade baked goods, or doing your chores, or otherwise acknowledging that she was wrong.


Cons:

  • Flighty -- Life is full of opportunities, and Giulia is not one to hesitate before snatching them. At every opportunity she can find, she throws herself into interest after interest and hobby after hobby. She tries on new experiences like hats, eager to find the next best thing. A new experience can be sweeter than candy, and she isn't the sort to weigh the risks before springing headlong into a fun adventure. However- she doesn't always think of the consequences of certain actions, and she is easily spooked and startled by them when they come, especially if said consequence involves someone yelling at her. Some would call her flighty, and they might not be wrong, but Giulia just wants to taste a little of everything life has to offer.

  • Stubborn -- When she makes a decision she will live in the burning wreckage of her bad choices, because they were her choices. Insults and cruel criticism roll off her like a wave over a rock- she'll hold still for a few decades more before the words start to make a dent in her. She will gladly cut her nose off to spite you, if you make her do something she doesn't want to. This is the flip side to her dedicated virtue;

  • Jealous -- Giulia may be generous with her things, but she still envies those who have things she does not, or who get to experience things she cannot. She is jealous of the 'old friends' of new friends, jealous of people who take the attention of her family away from her, jealous of the people who have a skill she thinks would be nice to have. The jealousy is both a bludgeon to drive her to overwork herself as compensation, and a barrier that may keep her vaguely standoffish from (though still superficially friendly towards) those she envies, until she has found a reason to love them.


General Appearance

    Giulia stands a hair’s breadth over 170 cm (5’7), and has a slim, boyish frame made mostly of sharp angles, muscle, and few curves. Her skin is tanned, and carries a smattering of freckles everywhere- faintly across her cheeks and forehead, skittering over her bony shoulders, arms, and legs. She has long, muscled legs, long, strong arms, and a delicate, also long, neck with skinny hands and fingers, and strong feet. Her hair is a curly (3A) whitish-gold and falls to her middle back. Her eyes are large, round and slightly upturned, and bright blue. Her nose is tall and dainty, and her small, squared ears have a free lobe.

Tiara -- Something that isn't particularly straight. I am inspired by the Boucheron Wave tiara and even Charlene of Monaco's Ocean Tiara, but those are complicated and not very whirlpool. Basically, anything that doesn't look like a straight V / clean-lined would be awesome.

Sailor Scout Attack: Vortex
Do not let my friends be so unwary as to fall into Kharybdis, or at one gulp she will swallow them all.
Charybdis creates a small whirlpool of water around the feet of a singular opponent within 10 feet of her, trapping them in a crushing sensation as if choking on salty currents rotating fiercely around them, which may induce dizziness and nausea as they struggle to escape. This attack lasts for one round (15 seconds if there is a set time mechanic involved), and can be used 2x per battle. It causes no direct damage, and any physical damage as a result of opponents tripping or falling from the effects are up to the enemy player. Other opponents within a 10-foot radius of the target may (at player discretion) feel a mild sensation of the same, as though the whirlpool is preparing to spread outwards to devour them. The closer to the target the stronger the effects might be.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Maelstrom
[Kharybdis] sucks up the sea around Gadeira and furiously spirals around again. It is said that it all leads down to chaos and destruction.
Charybdis creates a small whirlpool of water around the feet of a singular opponent within 10 feet of her, trapping them and causing a sensation of choking on salty currents rotating violently around them, which is likely to induce dizziness and nausea as they struggle to escape. This whirlpool expands immediately to a 10-foot radius around that opponent, capturing others within the spinning currents; opponents within the whirlpool area will feel a crushing sensation as if choking on salty currents rotating violently through the area, along with dizziness and nausea from the pressure of the whirlpool voraciously swallowing them towards its center. Any attempts at escape will be dramatically slowed as the opponents are forced to fight to escape the rotating currents. The closer to the center of the whirlpool, the stronger the effects. This attack lasts for one round (20 seconds if there is a set time mechanic involved), and can be used 3x per battle. It causes no direct damage, and any physical damage as a result of opponents tripping or falling from the effects are up to the enemy player.

Eternal Sailor Attack: Messina
There grows a great leafy fig-tree; under it, awesome Kharybdis sucks the dark water down... Pray not to be caught there when she swallows down; Poseidon himself could not save you from destruction then.
With but a whispered word Charybdis creates a whirlpool with a 20-foot radius at a target location within 10 feet of herself. The water swells quickly and violently around the feet of every target within the whirlpool. For the opponents of Charybdis, with the water's rise comes the dizzying helplessness of choking and drowning, crushed within in the swirl and twirl of frozen, salty waters, ears filled with the creaks and groans of ships and screams of sailors lost to the depths. Yet for allies (including herself) within the whirlpool, the water seems to almost be encouraging them outwards instead of pulling them in, granting increased movement speed and evasion within the currents, or a boost to damage dealt. This attack lasts for two rounds (or 30 seconds if there is a set time mechanic involved, whichever is LESS), and can be used once per battle. The magic causes no direct physical damage, and any such damage as a result of opponent reactions to the effects are up to the enemy player.
(In an ORP the 'buff' portion of this bonus will be solely at the discretion of the host- as examples, this may be a +1/+2 to damage dealt, a -1/-2 to damage received, or +1 die to be rolled.)

Where were you awakened? Giulia was awakened in Mayet City itself while she was snoozing in the garden after an exhausting birthday party. Surprise!!

What have you been doing for the past 1 years? School. Giulia does, after all, still have plans.

Attacks! Our recommendation would be to focus specifically on the whirlpool aspect of them -- not cyclones or twisters or anything that might lead to people flying through the air. The imagery with getting tripped up is good; like the feeling of having your feet swept out from under you?

That said, we'd suggest the following based on what you already have:

Basic - Charybdis summons a whirlpool beneath a target within 10ft of her. The whirling waters pull at them with mild force, giving them a mild sensation of choking on water along with dizziness and queasiness from the pressure of the whirlpool's currents. These currents are strong enough to slow them down should they try to escape. 15 seconds, 3x per battle.


Super - Charybdis summons a whirlpool beneath a target within 10ft of her. The whirling waters pull at them with mild force, giving them a mild sensation of choking on water along with dizziness and queasiness from the pressure of the whirlpool's currents. This time the whirlpool is capable of growing up to 10ft across, pulling other opponents within range in towards the center as well. Eternal - For this we're actually going to recommend tweaking things to align with the idea of the mythological Charybdis whirlpool:

This comes with the sensation of being caught in a whirlpool of mythological proportion. - a terrifying illusion accompanying the draw of water, the sensation of drowning, and the absolute conviction that the target is being battered by the wreckage of ships long since lost. Until the attack ends Charybdis' opponents are convinced that they are being drawn down to the depths of the ocean. 20ft radius, 30 seconds long, 1 use per day.

I wrote the flying, etc the way I did since they're not ACTUALLY in water, rather than take away from the whirlpool imagery; From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whirlpool, "Vortex is the proper term for a whirlpool that has a downdraft." and so I kind of rolled with the downdraft aspect naming as well. ("Vortices form in stirred fluids, and may be observed in smoke rings, whirlpools in the wake of a boat, and the winds surrounding a tropical cyclone, tornado or dust devil.")

That said, it looks like you mainly only want to strip the sensation of the enemy players bashing into things from the first two, which I can work with, and reword it some more.

I don't like the recommendation for eternal that was suggested. It reads to me too much like the upgrade from first stage to second stage, just a bit more strongly-worded. I was trying to go for something that would give an actual, calculable team benefit in lieu of leaving it up solely to player discretion like the first two are.

I'd had a couple other Eternal ideas, one being an actual attack and one being a bit more defensive, but since one of the goals I've seen with the shop is to encourage teamwork, I felt having a team benefit would be nice, and something I didn't read too much of yet with the other senshi.

Can I have some further understanding of why the eternal attack doesn't work, so I can work to try and merge ideas together? Is it because it's too calculable, or is it more of a visualization/concept issue?

On Vortexes -- That bit, removing the flying and the mention of gravel is because we are focusing on whirlpools and while a whirlpools can be formed by a vortex, for the sake of this conversation we'd like them to be differentiated. Pulling from the first line of the wiki-link:

"A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle."

We also feel that mentioning gravel may be a bit too similar to some of the features of the Senshi of Whirlpools in AU and we'd like to keep that clear difference!

It's also perfectly okay to not like recommendations! They are, of course, always just suggestions and we're up for reviewing any other ideas that you might have too!

The main thing about the Eternal Attack was that it felt more like White Water than Whirlpools. What you have, currently, seems a bit more like being swept down a river and bashed into things than caught in a spiral and being drawn down. I apologize for not including that feedback along with the side-step recommendation last night!

Hiiiiiii. Okay. So I tried to make some adjustments around the visuals based on your recommendations, and reword the eternal attack to more clearly align to a whirlpool/Charybdis visual as you suggested. I did keep in the "buff" aspect, trying to more clearly identify as well HOW the waters would work, using the Charybdis.... well.... belch... as a foundation for push-pull... yeah.

Charybdis creates a small whirlpool of water around the feet of a singular opponent within 10 feet of her, trapping them and causing a sensation of choking on salty currents rotating violently around them, which is likely to induce dizziness and nausea as they struggle to escape. This whirlpool expands immediately to a 10-foot radius around that opponent, capturing others within the spinning currents; opponents within the whirlpool area will feel a crushing sensation as if choking on salty currents rotating violently through the area, along with dizziness and nausea from the pressure of the whirlpool voraciously swallowing them towards its center. Any attempts at escape will be dramatically slowed as the opponents are forced to fight to escape the rotating currents. The closer to the center of the whirlpool, the stronger the effects. This attack lasts for one round (20 seconds if there is a set time mechanic involved), and can be used 3x per battle. It causes no [i]direct[/i] damage, and any physical damage as a result of opponents tripping or falling from the effects are up to the enemy player.

With but a whispered word Charybdis creates a whirlpool with a 20-foot radius at a target location within 10 feet of herself. The water swells quickly and violently around the feet of every target within the whirlpool. For the opponents of Charybdis, with the water's rise comes the dizzying helplessness of choking and drowning, crushed within in the swirl and twirl of frozen, salty waters, ears filled with the creaks and groans of ships and screams of sailors lost to the depths. Yet for allies (including herself) within the whirlpool, the water seems to almost be encouraging them [i]outwards[/i] instead of pulling them in, granting increased movement speed and evasion within the currents, or a boost to damage dealt. This attack lasts for two rounds (or 30 seconds if there is a set time mechanic involved, whichever is LESS), and can be used once per battle. The magic causes no [i]direct[/i] physical damage, and any such damage as a result of opponent reactions to the effects are up to the enemy player.
(In an ORP the 'buff' portion of this bonus will be solely at the discretion of the host- as examples, this may be a +1/+2 to damage dealt, a -1/-2 to damage received, or +1 die to be rolled.)
