(This RP is backdated to early July and follows from here!)

Scylla and Cybele left the dazzling lights of Destiny City far behind and landed in what, at first, seemed to be pitch darkness. A newcomer to the homeworld might have found that normal, if jarring, had the complete inability to see not been followed by the aggravated sigh of the asteroid's senshi, followed by the words: "You bratty little titnugget."

Dropping the Senshi of the Hunt's hand, Scylla's heels clacked against a floor that rang almost hollow, her tattoos brightening to combat the darkness before she found and threw open a door. Which... didn't help lighten up the inside of the room much, but allowed for dazzling colors to be seen from outside the narrow door. "Scylla dropped us in a storage hut. Scylla has jokes, and they're as bad as mine."

Still, once Cybele stepped outside she would be greeted by the beauty of the world at night. This was one of the low-floating islands, Jada noticed quickly, seeing that the ocean was... well. A distance below them. There was a path down using some of the fossilized strands that seemed to connect everything, but they were senshi, so... it was maybe four stories? Five? They could jump UP three, so it would be fine to just...

Hmmm.

On the outside the building glowed faintly, smeared with paints in a pattern that was not unlike a plant, and around them the entire homeworld shimmered with color- not just the bioluminescent sea below, but even the sky above and air around the edge of the island on which they stood, colors shifting through shimmering branches and feeding into a large coral tree in the distance that rose from ocean to sky. Below and some bit away rose a Grecian-style temple that could be seen clearly even from where they had landed, the pillars illuminated by specks of light.

Having never been to space before that she could remember, Cybele did, in fact, think that the sudden darkness might be part of the travel process. After all, when she'd been looking up at the stars right before they left, she'd seen plenty of black space in between the stars and the planets.

Then she saw Scylla's glow, and she saw the apparently annoyed senshi throwing open a door and revealing something else beyond. Cybele wasn't quite sure what she meant by a sense of humor, but she didn't waste any time in following her out of the hut and staring at the sights beyond.

"Oh," she whispered. So this was what another world looked like. The ocean glowed. The land glowed. Coral twisted into trees. She felt like she could stare for hours, just examining every otherworldly thing that she could put eyes on. The temple especially stood out to her. She recognized hints of the architecture.

On Earth, that style had shown up in ancient Greece, and she was wearing clothing that could also be described as Grecian, which might mean-

"Do you think these places had cultural exchanges, the way that countries near each other did?" she asked. "Because," she waved a hand at her outfit, which might not have explained much, before stepping forward to get a better look.

Only to have her eyes flick to the drop below, at which point she froze.

Cybele stared at the world that lay beyond the door, and Scylla was overjoyed as she watched the other senshi take in the sight of her homeworld. The whispered Oh was like music to her ears, and Scylla turned to stare at the asteroid, taking in the floating islands, the twisted coral, and the colors. So, SO many colors, pulsing and shining in the darkness.

"I think they probably did have some exchanges." Scylla answered the question easily, pulling from memories of when she had been Andromache. "Scylla sent warriors and slaves offworld. Andromache- the Scylla before me- was sent away from Scylla when she was only a child. Her family couldn't keep what it had, so someone else took it." Simplified, but close enough. "Exporting fauna, gems, and people; Importing livestock, glass, and metals- we didn't have a lot of ways to get temperatures hot enough to melt down ores or make glass."

She stepped up beside the other senshi, feeling the stillness in the other woman. "It looks high, but this is one of the lower islands. If we weren't in senshi form it would be quite a bit more dangerous." Was she so still because of the view? It was a lot more breathtaking this close to the edge, seeing the ocean stretching out for what was probably miles in every direction from the temple area below. "We can take one of the fossilized paths down, they'll need a little more climbing. There are a couple that look like they'll take us closet to the Temple."

The panic rose quickly through Cybele's entire body, and also unexpectedly. She'd never tried hopping around on rooftops the way that some of the others had. It had always seemed dangerous, and just the thought of it had made her heart beat a bit faster, and she'd stayed safely on solid ground up until now.

The drop before them might have only added up to a few stories, but to Cybele, it seemed endless and gaping. Her breath caught. She could feel every heartbeat in her skull. That odd something tugged at her chest, something she should have remembered, but it couldn't have been anything good.

She could almost hear Scylla behind her, calmly listing off imports and exports from a thousand years ago. Eventually her voice broke through whatever it was that Cybele was feeling enough that she could take a step back again and close her eyes, leaning against the cool, solid stone of the building they'd come out of.

"It's beautiful," she managed. "I didn't know the ocean would be glowing, or that the architecture would be so familiar. I just also did not know that this would be how I would react to, um," her eyes fluttered open for a moment, although she was careful to keep them pointed outwards and not down, "Heights."

Oblivious to her companion's silent suffering, Scylla had stared out over her homeworld and gotten lost in her own thoughts. Perhaps it was her closeness to the planet, but every time she brought another to see it she was just... proud. Awestruck by it every time. Oh how she wished she could share what it had been like when she had been Andromache- that untamed, albeit incredibly violent, beauty. Underwater living, the splashes of color, the way they painted their bodies, the laughter, the dancing, and the way every day was treated as their last.

Cybele stepped backwards and Scylla turned her eyes from the world below to glance at the other senshi curiously. And the look that crossed her face at Cybele's quiet admission about heights was- "Oh, no!" Completely missing the other woman having a reaction like that made the Kraken senshi feel... wretched. "I'm so sorry, Cybele. I didn't even think about the fact we might land on an island, even though I should have." her hands flapped uselessly.

"We will absolutely take the paths down. If it will help, I'll go in front of you so you can hold on to me, and you can-" she didn't have the arm ribbons anymore, so she couldn't offer a blindfold or something. "You won't fall. I have tentacles. They work on my homeworld and can absolutely catch you before you fall, or let you down gently. Though I suppose getting hugged by giant tentacles might be freakier than heights for most people, but I wanted to be transparent about the no-fall and why."

Anxious babbling? Check!

"I sort of expected it would be similar in some way. Scylla from Greek myth was basically a tentacled monster with a lot of heads and a fondness for chowing down on sailors, so it kind of made sense that the myths would have come from somewhere. Though I have to admit my tentacles are a lot smaller than some of the fossils I've found around here of similar creatures. Um- I have water and some snacks in the Temple. We can get you off the heights whenever you're ready, or we can just.... chill here.... away from the edge..."

Cybele swallowed hard and then gave a small nod.

Scylla was being so kind about this, the same way that she'd barely blinked when hearing that Cybele had spent time in the Negaverse and lost all her memories in the process. She did not want to make her spend her entire trip huddled by this unfortunate storage shed when there was so much else to see.

"I'd like to see your temple," she managed in a hoarse breath. "Tentacles would be much better than-" she nodded sideways towards the drop, lips pressing thin just at the thought of it.

It took intense effort to peel herself away from the stonework and take the few steps to place her hands on Scylla's shoulders, but once she was there, the warmth of the contact helped, and she was able to squeeze her eyes shut again. "If you don't mind, we can go like this, and we can talk about other things, like mythology. I've been trying to learn more about that. There's just a lot."

She'd only had so much time to even start reading those stories.

Her voice settled into a steadier rhythm, now that she had something else to think about. "The stories change over time, too. I did look into Cybele. Sometimes she's just a standard fertility goddess, but then other times she's the rival of the huntress Atalanta, surrounded by packs of lions and inspiring incredibly vicious cults of worshipers."

It did make her wonder, in a hesitant sort of way, what was waiting for her on her own world.

That was a question for later, though. This place had its own secrets, she was sure. "You said Scylla's a monster, and that you're the Senshi of Krakens." She tilted her head, voice light even as she gripped a bit tighter. "Are you sure there's nothing here that I should be worried about?"

The other senshi was clearly having a moment, and if her homeworld had ankles, Scylla would kick them. "Optimistically we won't need to worry about either. I think you'll quite like the water, though, once we get a little closer to it."

As Cybele moved towards her, Scylla shifted to meet her touch, reaching up to press lightly on the hands on her shoulders. "Me? I the opposite of mind, my friend. I love to talk about Mythology. Some of the stories are amazing, and while they change over time it still really manages to show how the human species really hasn't leveled up over thousands of years. Zeus, the quintessential frat bro; Hades just wants to hide in his house with his girlfriend and his pet dog; Hera's done with her husband's s**t; and a lot of people still worship Dionysus on Friday and Saturday nights." The two moved forward slowly and carefully, the senshi taking care to guide the other woman along the paths that looked the sturdiest and had the widest area for a foot to go.

"Cybele was also equated with Rhea, from Greek mythology. I'd seen her name come across- I think I'd read that all the priests of Cybele made themselves into eunuchs, which I found morbidly funny because she was a fertility goddess. I quite like the imagery of being a huntress surrounded by packs of lions better." The duo were making good time on their descent, and Scylla had not yet needed to summon her powers to help keep her companion on the path.

The other senshi asked a question that made Scylla give a small, nervous laugh. "I'm sure there's nothing here that you should be worried about while you're with me. If you managed to come back on your own, I'm not making any promises." she kept her voice light and teasing. "But yes, Scylla was a monster, fond of chowing down on sailors. No myth fully agrees on who her parents were, or how she became a monster, but they do tend to agree that she had a lot of tentacles and her waist was ringed by canine heads."

She clacked her teeth together playfully.

Right now was NOT the time to mention she'd lost a massive fossil a few years ago that... had left no rubble behind.

Cybele nodded, although as firmly behind Scylla as she was, the other probably wouldn't notice. "The water sounds amazing. I'm not afraid of that, especially if there are no krakens in it." Although perhaps if there were she would have seen something of a challenge.

"Oh, are there waves?" her eyes fluttered open, staying focused on Scylla's form in front of her. "Or salt? That would be exciting. Swimming in the ocean is one of the things on my list, that I'd like to try."

The pool had been nice enough, but everyone seemed to absolutely rave about salt water.

Although now that they were getting farther down and the shock of the height was wearing off, she was happy enough to be here even if this wasn't exactly what people meant on their small decorative plaques that said Ocean Life. The colors were lovely even as she glanced skyward, and Scylla's kindness meant the warmth in her chest had never faded.

"Is Zeus not Scylla's father?" she asked, curious. "Like I said, I haven't had time to read too much, yet, but I got that far. Everyone who's anyone is Zeus's child." She pursed her lips. "Not Cybele, actually. She might be his mom, with the Rhea connection, like you said. A lot of the monsters are, though, aren't they? They're the ones that Hera gets jealous about and curses."

She gave a light sigh, although it was definitely not directed at the other senshi. She'd just reached the stage of reading Greek mythology where she'd started heavily judging Zeus.

"I understand sources disagreeing, though. The night I was reading all this about Cybele I ended up at the primary sources at about two in the morning. Very interesting, but they were fragmented, and they jumped around, and they were all from different eras.

"There's decent records on her cult though, and that's fascinating. The eunuch priests started out as leaders for these wild, um, fertility parties."

Back in the day, her namesake had apparently given Dionysus a bit of competition for most intense worshipers. She'd been the goddess of the wild in just about every way that could mean.

"Then later in Rome, they existed outside of the strict gender roles of the time, but were marked as outcasts for it. After that it seemed to die out a bit with the rest."

"I can promise you that you won't get eaten by anything while you're with me," Scylla told Cybele with a laugh, "I can keep you quite safe." Though she definitely was making no promises on what may or may not lurk in the depths of the ocean. She could, however, make one heck of a quick escape just by powering down and getting them both booted off-world quite quickly. She knew. She'd done it before, on accident.

"There are waves. The water isn't... quite like on earth, though. It's warmer, and while there's this brine scent, there's something sweet about it too. Don't drink it, but I've choked on it once or twice when I went diving too deep, and it was a little bit sweet, too, just enough to trigger the tastebud confusion. When we go back to Earth, if you want a beach trip I can definitely help arrange one for you."

The mythology question actually drew a laugh from her. "Scylla is one of the few anyone's who isn't Zeus'. Some say Triton, Poseidon's son, others say Phorkys, who was brother to Cronus and Rhea, Zeus' parents. One even mentioned Apollo as her father. And mother is much the same. Hecate, Crataeis, Echidna... And let's not even talk about how she became a monster."

A pause. "Though I have to admit I like the fact that Scylla was described by one poet as a bull-slaying lioness. I could get behind that. BUT. Was Scylla born that way? Was it a curse from Amphitrite, when a pretty naiad caught Poseidon's eye? Or was it her possibly half-sister, Circe, who was jealous over a man. Well. God. Naturally that story is the one that became most popular, because who in ancient Greece didn't think it was cool to curse your half-sister into a man-eating monster because some guy she didn't even have any interest in wanted to bang her?"

Honestly, ancient Greek myths had nowhere near enough solidarity between women. "And let's not even use that as a launch pad into poor Medusa."

Pausing her steps, about one story above the sea line, Scylla rolled her head back to squint at Cybele. "What did they call Cybele's crazy parties? Dionysus- Bacchus- got Bacchanalia, Cybele had to have a fancy name too, right? Especially if they uh- sorry, my brain is still stuck on eunuchs leading fertility org- ahem. Parties."

LOL I bet it was.

Cybele listened with interest. She didn't know half of the names that were coming out of Scylla's mouth, but that was all right. The other senshi obviously cared a lot about these stories, and as Cybele listened to her the rhythm of her words, her grip on Scylla's shoulders loosened, just a bit.

"I'll definitely give you my real phone number after that. You should send me the links to those stores," she said. "You've got me interested. The one where she's a lioness? Now that one sounds very interesting."

Perhaps she was grasping for connections where there weren't any, but when Cybele had such strong associations with lions of course it made her want to hear more.

"I'll read the others, too, though, even the ones where the men have no sense of boundaries and the women start backstabbing over it. It's not the best trope, but the stories are fascinating enough that I can handle it."

It helped that people these days seemed to know how problematic it was. It hadn't taken much digging at all to find plenty of classicists on the internet who were committed to making fun of Zeus.

She raised an eyebrow at the question of Cybele's parties, though. "Oh, you don't have to cut yourself off," she said. "They were called Orgia, which is exactly what it sounds like. I'll send you things to read about that. There's plenty of contradictory eunuchs for you to giggle at."

She paused, sucking in a breath before she started giggling. "And then maybe you can send me Earth beaches that are good to go to, as well? Yours sounds lovely, but I did buy a few swimsuits during all the shopping. I'd love to get to use them, and maybe a fancy umbrella."

She was still staring pointedly at Scylla's hair, keeping her eyes off of anything else. "Which, um, how close are we to the water here?"

The grip on Scylla's shoulders loosening was taken as a god sign, and so the older woman kept babbling cheerfully as they walked. "Not a literal lioness, but as I am a Leo myself I found the description absolutely magnificent. It was a poem by Lycophron, talking about where Hercules killed her. He slew also the fierce hound Skylla that watched the narrow straits of the Ausonian sea, fishing over her cave, the bull-slaying lioness whom her father then restored to life, burning her flesh with brands : she who feared not Persephone, goddess of the underworld. Yes, I memorized it, because it makes Scylla sound like a bad-a**."

She couldn't help but appreciate Cybele's opinion. "Greek mythology would have been a lot less boring if Zeus could have just kept his d**k away from everything with a pulse, but as I am not in possession of such an appendage perhaps its harder than it seems. No... no pun intended on that one."

Finding out that the eunuchs did, in fact, lead the Orgia, made Scylla wheeze. "I'll do you one better in regards to those earth beaches," Scylla informed Cybele, trying to keep the giggles out of her voice, "I have a private jet. I'll take you and whoever we can shove into the thing on vacations that will let all your swimsuits do their job."

Taking a look down, since they were paused, Scylla said, "Probably about 10 feet. Like standing on the roof of a porch or something. Close enough that if you jumped, as a senshi you wouldn't be hurt hitting the water, and most unpowered people would be fine as well, even if they did a belly flop. And there aren't any branches of the Pillar right here, so there's nothing to worry about under the water. We're about 70 feet away from the shoreline, I'd guess?"

The sound of something being recited was soothing, almost. It was not familiar exactly. Whatever memories she might have had once of dressing rooms and running lines had been lost in all the starseed trauma, but she'd hung onto the concept of it and read things over and over again until she could remember the words, even back when she'd been living in the Negaverse barracks. Scylla's poem made her smile again.

"I like that," she said. "It's just a shame it's basically an epitaph. All the mythology is interesting enough as it is, but I think it could be even better if they let the bull slaying lioness who feared not Persephone live, and if Zeus got a bit of comeuppance for being so-"

She pursed her lips, trying to think of a decent way to say it before she just said, "Terrible." He was a fascinating character, but she wasn't sure how he was ever seen as any kind of hero.

"And your opinions on all that are completely valid," said Cybele, leaning in close and lowering her voice to a whisper, broken up by a giggle or two "I mean, according to the cult of Cybele, you don't actually need the appendage to-"

She couldn't say any more than that, though. She was laughing to hard. Not just giggles anymore, but the kind of laughter that was loud and heavy, that took moved her whole body and left her breathless. She didn't think she could remember ever laughing like that, before. She loved it.

She didn't even care that they were up on a spindly path with a drop down to the water on both sides. For that one moment, she was fine. When she recovered, though, her breath coming back in small giggly gasps, the fear came back a bit too, and she gave a small nod at Scylla's back.

"All right," she said. "If we're almost there."

A ten foot drop was probably not awful, at least in theory, but if the path was there, she saw no reason not to take it.

"It's the epitaph of a bamf who apparently walked backwards out of hades giving a queen the finger." still, Scylla sighed. "Zeus deserved so much more than he got. You know that meme that goes around, talking about how the biggest lie Disney ever told was portraying Zeus as a loving family man? Yup."

Cybele's laughter at her back caused Scylla to break down in some giggles of her own. "Cult of Cybele, making sure all the Romans knew the same thing every lesbian woman had already learned up to that point in history. Dropping both trou and facts. Truly, a benefit to the masses."

Still, Scylla took extra care to make sure that as Cybele's guffaws filled the air with joy, nothing took away from that moment. Something told her it was more precious than she knew, and she made sure the other woman got to enjoy every second of it, Scylla's stance solid and sure.

"I have short legs," Scylla said frankly, as Cybele nodded, "and we're shuffling a little bit to be careful with footing. So probably about 45 steps. Maybe 50. If it will help you to count them. I'll tell you when we're about 3 feet up- about the height of standing on a dresser."

Starting forward again, she kept her promise. "About three feet up now, if you want to pop an eye open. The path is getting a bit more narrow here, too, so it might be better to open your eyes." Underneath them the sea sparkled brightly, and the coral path shimmered with a light all its own, leading the way to pale, sandy beaches.

"They should have had the lesbians write the myths," said Cybele with a final giggle. "That would have fixed some things."

She went quiet for the last bit of the walk, though, counting her steps in her head. She wasn't sure if it distracted her nearly as well as laughing about the exploits of Zeus had, but it was something, and focusing on the numbers and her head and the feeling of something solid under the soles of her feet kept her from slipping into any sort of extreme panic. When she got to 38, Scylla was telling her that she could open her eyes. They were only three feet up, apparently, which didn't sound so bad. She could easily step down from there.

Her eyelids fluttered open, and she froze. It wasn't from fear this time. No, it was all awe. The view from above had been lovely, but it had been difficult to admire with everything else happening. From down here, she could see things in more detail anyway. She could see the beaches, and from here the water seemed to sparkle, not just glow.

"All right. This isn't bad," she said, in case Scylla was worrying. "Also, I keep finding new things to admire. I think I love your world."

Scylla couldn't stop her small cackle of reply; Cybele was right. If the lesbians had written the myths, mythology would have been so much better.

Carefully, she shifted her weight, once they were stopped, turning to face the frozen senshi behind her. This isn't bad, Cybele said at last and Jada beamed at her, delight and pride in her homeworld clear in her expression. "The beach extends as far as I've been able to walk," she said cheerfully, and stepped away from the other woman to let herself fall into the water, cool and salty and with that faint edge of something sweet that lurked the edges of her tastebuds.

When she rose from the sea, all of her sparkled- hair, fuku, tattoos, skin; bioluminescence dripped from her like paint, splattering into the air as Scylla shook her arms and upper body. "This particular island was the domain of Scylla. My family and I lived up there-" she extended one arm to point to the temple rising above, lit by flame and glowing white in the dark. "There is a village, over the dunes- you may be able to see the tops of the buildings from where you are. Offworlders would land here, and stay there. The tribe-kings, when they were summoned or wanted to pick a fight, would stay there. The Nephelai, when they needed to come down from their sky-islands to seek something from the seas below. The Haliai, when they were injured, or tired."

She gestured to the stalk in the distance. "When the young would come to the Pillar, to Descend and become acknowledged as adults, they would rest here as well. The beach would be filled with merriment, and giant turtle and whale-like creatures would fill the ocean beyond. The celebration would summon danger, sometimes, but that was life here."
