Y'know, when he was little Isaia used to stay all the time at his dad's. But, as much as he butt heads with his old lady, Isaia really did enjoy working as a mechanic. His dad wouldn't allow him onto airships, not yet, but there was no shortage of work he could do while learning. ... In Belrea, that is.

It sucked to be so far away from his dad most of the time. Between his two parents, he got along better with the old man, even if he and his mom understood eachother better.

... Anyway. The plan had been to wait at the docks for his dad to arrive with a patient, and help escort 'em back home where they'd wait until a more experienced (better) healer could see them.

So that's what Isaia was doing. Waiting, arms crossed grumpily.

After being cooped up on the ship for so long (where he was sick and groggy most of the time, thanks to nausea that never went away), Colm abandoned his normal sedate mood to instead run at full tilt down the gangway, skirting around offloading sailors and ignoring any calls for him to slow down.

The dock itself offered little solace, so he wobbled down the length of it until he hit solid enough ground - and stooped, hands propped on his knees. His head was telling him he was still on a boat - wobbling and swaying, and his gut moved along with it, ready to get sick at a moment's notice. But - slowly it was getting better. "Ugh. I hate ships." He said, grumpily, not for the first time.

Arden would have gladly become one with the ship if that meant he didn't have to stay in Belrea! He'd practically begged to become a sailor, but his parents had shot that down too. He'd almost been keen just to grump along through the evening...until Colm had bolted and, seizing the moment, Arden was quick to follow suit.

He bounced from one foot to the other, damn near giddy just to be on the deck and away from anyone who could hold him back! If he played his cards right he could board another ship back to Tendaji and-

Oh, they were stopping.

"We'll have to use one to get home so maybe try pointing your mouth in the opposite direction and we can sail faster." Still, the boy did reach out to pat his brother's pat and rub little circles. "....do you need another bucket?"

Somehow, the grandiose idea of having her teenagers come to Belrea with her wasn't as 'magical' as Uquin had made her believe it would be. 'Quality time' and 'motherly bonding' only went so far when hormonal teenagers bickered over the smallest, stupidest things and it didn't help that her patience was so thin. She was getting better, surely, and of course she loved them, but some days....Oh, some days Maritza wanted to ship them back.

Still, as much as she and Isaia butted heads it was hard to deny the similarities. The sheer fact that she could drop off her own plans on the kitchen table only to have him point out ideas she hadn't considered was a source of pride. And now, with Zadia in the midst of her botanical lessons and Lioe back in Tendaji she was left alone with the hellion...

"You pout more than a pregnant woman." Maritza commented pointedly as she walked past her teenage son. She gave him a pointed look before nodding toward the docks. "They're unloading; let's go." She knew he was escorting a patient, which meant she would have strangers in her home for a brief stint so naturally Maritza was on the look for foreigners.

Blue ones, at that.

What she hadn't expected was a child that looked damn near green. "Hey kid, deep breaths."

At first the prospect of being stuck with Zadia had been horrifying. But - she was gone most of the time, so it wasn't as if he saw her much, and at this point... he was starting to miss her. And Lioe - who he hoped, keenly, had come with their dad on this trip. He missed his brother, okay?!

But that didn't mean he was excited about a bunch of strangers (and kids!!) in his house. He glared at his mother's jab, but moved to follow her - throwing a brief, sidelong glance at the two kids his mother had briefly given advice to.

They kept walking though - or, at least, Isaia did, thinking little of the kids and instead on seeing his family again. "Why do they have to stay with us anyway?" He groused. "Can't they just get a room at an inn or something?"

Ugh. Ugggh. Colm shot his brother a scandalized look, horrified that he was suggesting they get back on a ship SO SOON-- but he wasn't surprised either. That pep talk they'd had together had lasted maybe a few hours, but soon enough Arden was back to... ardently rebelling and hoping to go back home.

It shouldn't surprise him that he was taking the opportunity to bail and run back onto a ship. Colm was torn between swatting him away, and latching on because if Arden got lost Colm would never forgive himself..

He opened his mouth to respond, but slapped a hand over it instead, fighting back a swell of nausea - just as a woman barked advice at him. He whimpered but gave a vague thumbs up back. Then bowed his head next to his brother and glowered at him. "You're nuts if you think I'm getting back on a ship - how would you even find our grandparents?"

In all honesty it wasn't as if Maritza was too keen on having house guests herself. She wasn't thrilled about sharing her small home with four strangers, but the children were the least of her worries. A sick man...It was a burden, for sure, but not one she was going to turn away. The least she could do was offer them some sort of refuge until they found permanent housing.

"If your father was sick wouldn't you want someone to offer a helping hand?" Hooking her thumb in her belt look, the mechanic looked at her youngest. "They won't be here for long; do your best to entertain the boys and they'll be gone soon."

Still, seeing the boy one of the boys couldn't barely stand up....Was it the father that was sick or the child? Walking around them, Maritza grabbed a rag from her belt and dipped it into the sea water. The mechanic wrung out the excess then walked over to lay the cooling cloth on the back of the boy's neck.

"Are you Ygraine and Asa's boys?"

Even if Arden wanted to run he could scarcely do so with Colm so...green. When the bristling lightning woman approached them he naturally glowered at her, even going so far as to hunkering a little closer to this elder brother.

"Yeah, what of it?" As she lowered the cloth onto Colm's neck he snatched it himself, only to finish what she'd done from the straight. "We don't need any help; I've got this myself." His eyes briefly took her in, shooting his glare Isaia's way as well before turning back to Colm. "We can find a ship, no problem; we just gotta move fast. If you sleep this time you won't get sick."

... Ugh. Way to turn it on him. Isaia rolled his eyes, setting his jaw mutinously. "Soon enough. He's so old you'll have to be attending to HIM soon..." Not that he liked the idea, but - it was difficult to argue that Uquin was young. These days even his good eye was failing, and he often had to lean back and squint to try and read.

Before he could say anything else though, the boys that his mother had decided to help had taken her full attention - and, surprisingly, they were exactly the boys that he was supposed to be tasked with shepherding.

Caught in the midst of a grand escape, it seemed. "Nope. Sorry. You gotta pay for a ticket, and any work they have you doin' to pay for room and board'll be down in the belly of the ship - where it bows and sways and--" He grinned, innocently, holding his hands up in a 'sorry not sorry' motion.

Oh. That was nice. Colm sighed at the cool cloth, closing his eyes for a moment as the sick feeling abated a bit. Feeling better, he opened his eyes and looked at his brother a bit doubtfully. Only for the words the older hybrid man was saying to sink in. Immediately he slapped a hand to his face and groaned, reaching out to grasp a fistful of Arden's shirt, terrified his brother would grow tired of waiting on him and take off.

"Really? I don't think... Arden, should we really -" Only then did he seem to realize that two adults were there, listening, so he hunched in close, lowering his voice, "Can't we make sure father and mother are comfortable before we- if we know where the ships are, we could ... later?"

Maritza reached over and gave Isaia's arm a sharp pinch. While he may have been speaking the truth that didn't mean she wanted to hear it. There was still a grey area in her mind where Uquin's age was concerned and as far as she cared to think about he would live forever as grumpily as he ever had.

Still, she said nothing as Isaia described the workings of a ship and felt a little grin consume her. He was such a little brat, but she'd be amiss if she didn't see her influence shining through.

Oh, Colm was good. Arden had already reached the limit of stupid grown-people-nonsense he was willing to put up with and a determined grit had set up in his chin. He'd lifted his head as proudly as any Zenan warrior, standing as tall as a true blooded alkidike with all the spite of a perzi.

"You're just full of it. I bet you've never even been on a ship; just the ones that fly." What did he know? He was orange and orange people were Belrean. In Arden's mind that meant they cared more about books and gears and goofy things like that. He had to like them for papa's sake, but that didn't mean he had to be nice.

He tried his best to dislodge his brother's hold on his shirt. "They're fine! This is where they wanted to be so it doesn't matter where we go now."

Isaia was still rubbing his arm from his mother's ire when he jabbed the younger boys, but his joy at being deceptive fell through when the curly haired one called his advice. He shrugged with a laugh, turning to face his mother, eyebrows raised in a 'is this really our problem??' look.

When HE threatened to run away as a kid, his dad had shrugged and handed him a bag, calling his bluff - and soon enough he'd realized how stupid it was, to run away so young. Couldn't they just do the same thing to these kids? Just - watch them to make sure they didn't ACTUALLY take off on a ship or something?

[4/7]Full of it? Colm mouthed the words, unsure what the adults were 'full' of. But he was starting to feel better, finally, and was determined not to let go of his brother. He didn't know how the adults knew their parents, or why they'd taken such an interest, but he hoped they could help convince his brother to stay.

... Voicing that out loud, though, would put Colm on a one-way ticket to Arden's 'least favorite people' list, and he couldn't stand that even at the best of times.

"I... okay. How do we pick a ship then?"

"We find one with the most people who don't look like them." Arden fixed his glare at the two newcomers as if it were completely obvious. Now that Colm didn't seem as bad off he started to walk away from the dock. His steps were slow, however, due to the hold his brother still had on him; the very one he had graciously left unbroken.

"Then all we have to do is sneak on until they're already moving and then they'll have to keep going."
